"Why, Climb. Are you on your way to show your face to that monster?"
— Prince Zanac's Introduction.

Zanac Valleon Igana Ryle Vaiself (ザナック・ヴァルレオン・イガナ・ライル・ヴァイセルフ) was the Second Prince of the Re-Estize Kingdom. Though mistaken by others as a power-hungry man, jealous of his brother and sister, he was actually the only royal child who genuinely cared for the Kingdom.

Appearance[]

Prince Zanac was a short and portly individual with short blond hair. There were a few occasions where he clad himself in full body armor, the first occurrence was during the Demonic Disturbance and the second time was when his kingdom went to war with the Sorcerer Kingdom. The armors he wore are not the same, as they differed from each other in these two events, one of which was the Guardian Armor that formerly belonged to Gazef Stronoff.

Personality[]

Zanac was a subversion of the "jealous second prince" archetype. While, at first glance, he appeared to be just that - an incompetent person jealous of his siblings and scheming to steal his brother's birthright - this was all an act he created to mislead his enemies. In reality, Zanac was a talented, pragmatic, and sensible person, capable of comprehending the true natures of Renner and Marquis Raeven. Also, though it was true that he aimed for the throne, he did so out of a genuine belief that he would make a better king than his brother. He even claimed that he would give up his claim if it were for the greater good of the Kingdom. In the end, Zanac was a true patriot to his country.

A utilitarianist, Zanac's style of leadership often involved taking risks and making sacrifices for the greater good. He was even willing to resort to underhanded and even treasonous actions if he was compelled to. Still, he wasn't outright apathetic towards his people's struggles. Rather, his somewhat extreme beliefs were a direct result of the violent world he lived in; thus, making him a realist. Despite his logical mindset, however, he did have a sense of pride, ultimately choosing to fight and die with honor rather than just accept his fate.

To the public, Zanac maintained a well-mannered and prideful demeanor expected of a prince. Beneath this, however, Zanac had somewhat of an inferiority complex, unable to see his own talents and constantly comparing himself to others. However, this did not make him jealous. In fact, he actually felt admiration towards those he saw as superior; his father for his charisma and even his brother and sister, who he hated and feared, for their swordsmanship and intelligence respectively. Also, due to his lonely youth, Zanac didn't have any friends, causing him to deeply cherish the closest thing he had to one, which was Marquis Raeven.

Background[]

Zanac was born as the second son of King Ramposa III of Re-Estize Kingdom. Growing up, due to him only being the Second Prince, Zanac was mostly ignored by those around him, causing him to be somewhat lonely.

Despite him being the second born, Zanac believed he would make a better king than his spoiled older brother, Crown Prince Barbro. He thus began plotting to steal his brother's birthright, resulting in a bitter rivalry between the two princes. At some point, Zanac allied himself with Marquis Raeven after he saw through his opportunist act, which caused the latter to see his worth and back his claim to the throne.

Chronology[]

The Men in the Kingdom Arc[]

Zanac was first introduced along with Marquis Raeven while walking through the royal palace and saw Climb, who was on his way to Renner's room. Walking into each other, Zanac tried to warn Climb about his master and his younger sister, Renner. However, Climb disregarded his warning about her true nature.[1]

Later, Zanac attended a meeting between Marquis Raeven and Renner. During their conversation, he was disturbed when Renner revealed her true nature and her twisted love for Climb. Zanac offered to allow her to marry Climb if she supported his claim to the throne, to which she immediately agreed.[2]

Additionally, he was present when Renner and Lakyus called together all of the adventurers in the Kingdom to battle Jaldabaoth and his demon army. During the battle between the adventurers and Jaldabaoth, Zanac, along with some of Marquis Raeven's personal troops, led the civilians to safety. Using this, he earned the praise of the citizens and nobles. Thus, it helped him increase his chances to gain the throne over his older brother, Barbro.[3]

The Magic Caster of Destroy Arc[]

Zanac was later present during the meeting between the royalists and the nobility, where his father announced that the Baharuth Empire had allied itself with the newly founded Sorcerer Kingdom and had declared war on them. When Barbro, volunteered to fight on the battlefield, Zanac tried to stop him and volunteered to go himself, arguing that it would be foolish for both the Crown Prince and the King to risk their lives on the battlefield. However, his father ultimately decided to take Barbro with him to the battlefield over him.[4]

The Ruler of Conspiracy Arc[]

Main article: The Ruler of Conspiracy Arc

After the massacre at Katze Plains, his father fell into a depression due to the loss of Gazef Stronoff. With Prince Barbro's whereabouts unknown, Zanac had practically taken control of the Royalty Faction and was now first in line for the throne. However, he was also faced with a great amount of pressure and heavy burdens caused by the extreme tensions between the nobility faction and the royalty faction as a result of the war. Zanac was also having difficulty gaining reliable security and allies since his closest confidant, Marquis Raeven, retreated back into his domain, refusing to provide any further support after the massacre he witnessed.

At the same time, he tried to contemplate how to proceed with relations in regards to the newly formed Sorcerer Kingdom, as well as dealing with the internal infighting for power that had been plaguing the Kingdom for some time now. When he received news that the Sorcerer Kingdom would be sending a diplomatic envoy to their nation, these complications were instantly solved. Several days later, his father sent him to personally welcome the envoy, Albedo.

It was his duty to escort Albedo to the Ro-Lente Castle. Before diplomatic negotiation between the two nations begin, he had a dinner scheduled with himself and the rest of the Royal Family for that night. The following day, he and Albedo visited the theaters during the day to watch the dances and held a dinner party at night, where all the nobles of the Kingdom were invited. The next day, Zanac and Albedo attended a concert by the Palace's orchestra, after which the diplomatic negotiations took place.[5]

The Witch of the Falling Kingdom Arc[]

Main article: The Witch of the Falling Kingdom Arc

Zanac was seen working in his father's office along with his sister back in the capital, looking at all the reports that had been plaguing the Re-Estize Kingdom. Among the many problems that had been listed since the end of the war, food supplies and manpower were revealed to be getting dangerously low. In addition to that, other possible threats included the endangerment of the remaining crop rations as they could suffer from cold snaps and droughts. Zanac had been seeking solutions to deal with them. He asked for his sister's opinion and suggested a few ideas, including using high leveled druid adventurers and using the excess surplus of grains purchased by merchants who got them from the Sorcerer Kingdom.

He also had been monitoring the situation with the humanitarian aid the Sorcerer Kingdom had been providing to the Roble Holy Kingdom. Seeing how this was unfolding, he started to contemplate that all of this had been set up so that the Sorcerer Kingdom would move against them and eventually take over by manipulating events in the Holy Kingdom while also making the Re-Estize Kingdom look in an even worse light for not providing them aid as they had done.[6]

After learning of Philip's attack on the trade caravan, Zanac participated in a court meeting with his father about the grave news and the Sorcerer Kingdom's response to it. Particularly, he announced to those participating in the meeting that the topic would focus on the declaration of war their nation had received from the Sorcerer Kingdom. He suggested to his father that they should offer the head of Philip as an apology to the Sorcerer Kingdom. Although he was quickly scolded by his father for that idea, Zanac refused to yield and states that it was imperative for their nation to avoid a large loss of life with a small sacrifice. When the suggestion of an alliance with another country was brought up, Zanac immediately turned it down, since negotiations had been unsuccessful with the Argland Council State and there had been no reply from the Slane Theocracy. Despite his father's other suggestion of forcing the Sorcerer Kingdom's army to retreat, he feelt that they were better off putting Philip on trial and giving him over to the enemy kingdom as a way to guarantee their nation's survival. Upon learning that Prime Minister Albedo from the Sorcerer Kingdom would be arriving soon, he was ordered by his father to get dressed in a more formal attire and meet him in the throne room.

Once the meeting between King Ramposa III and Albedo finally ended, Zana tried to suggest chasing the Sorcerer Kingdom's Prime Minister down, but his father quickly turned that idea down. When he and Renner had a private meeting with Ramposa, the latter suggested that he and Renner flee from the kingdom, realizing that was about to be destroyed. However, both he and Renner refused to abandon their home nation.[7]

With the new war on the horizon and the Kingdom's weakened armies and low chance of actually winning against the Sorcerer Kingdom, Zanac had already begun making several preparations in gearing up the nation for war and had made several allies with the Kingdom's high ministers in preparation.

However, despite the obviously hostile stance of the Sorcerer Kingdom, King Ramposa was still insistent on trying diplomacy to diffuse the war between the Re-Estize Kingdom and the Sorcerer Kingdom. This notion eventually led Zanac and several of his allies to deem Ramposa to be no longer worthy to be their nation's leader during this national crisis. This finally caused the Crown Prince to stage a coup d'etat and dethrone his own father for the good of their kingdom. After successfully taking power and becoming King Regent, Zanac proceeded to secretly place Ramposa under house arrest and suppress all knowledge of the coup in order to prevent mass panic and confusion to the already vulnerable nation.

With his father indisposed, Zanac began to handle the affairs of the Kingdom. He was interrupted by Renner as the latter reported that more than half of their cities and villages in the Kingdom had already fallen to the Sorcerer King’s conquest. Zanac asked his sister how they did not get this intel sooner, only for her to inform him that someone had put all the Kingdom's sources of intel on lockdown. He was shocked when she revealed it to be none other than Marquis Raeven himself. He was provided multiple reasons by his sister on why the Marquis would choose to side with the Sorcerer Kingdom rather than their nation. Hearing one of such reasons, which was that Sorcerer Kingdom threatened to kill the Marquis' family if he refused to aid them, he believed the Sorcerer Kingdom's actions were despicable at best. He then asked for his sister's opinion about what she thought of the Sorcerer King, to which the latter responded with admiration and respect for the undead. Listening to Renner's response to his question, he then asked her further if the Sorcerer King was also better than her, which the latter chose not to answer.

Zanac was then asked several questions by Renner about how he would handle their country's situation with the Sorcerer Kingdom during the war. For instance, Zanac had already taken into consideration the mobilization of soldiers in the capital city where the final battle wwould happen between his army versus the Sorcerer King's army. Particularly, he had taken a stance by choosing to let himself be the royal who would take charge of leading the army to their death. He hoped to leave it to his father to prepare his own funeral after he died. Since his elder brother was no longer around, Zanac felt utterly compelled to take responsibility for the Kingdom's survival and could not afford to run away while it was on the brink of destruction. Zanac acknowledged that if only his elder brother was still here with them, he would have agreed to his father's idea of leaving the Re-Estize Kingdom with Renner to go to the Karsanas City-State Alliance.

On the other hand, he even offered a suggestion to Renner to flee at any time, like their father always wanted them to do initially. Hearing Renner's response on why she was not leaving immediately, he felt that it would only help the Sorcerer King to exploit her death after she died, such as the concern for the undead using her corpse. However, upon hearing once more from Renner, he was reassured by her that she would leave the Kingdom when the time came for her to do so.

After the Sorcerer Kingdom's army was about a half a day's march from the capital, Zanac mobilized the entire army of the Kingdom to assemble a front to combat the opposing nation. Zanac led an army of 400,000 men against the Sorcerer King's forces of 10,000 undead. Despite his forces' numerical superiority, Zanac already knew that they were no match for the Sorcerer King's overwhelming monsters. Hence, he decided to approach the Sorcerer Kingdom's army alone without any bodyguards and meet face-to-face with the Sorcerer King to try and better understand his motivations for this war. At the same time, he hoped to find out what kind of a thought process would have led the Sorcerer King to do what he had done against them.

Going out alone, he was given an audience with Ainz Ooal Gown and was treated with courtesy. While speaking, Zanac asked why Ainz, who already had so much power, would commit to this senseless war. Ainz declared that it was meant to show the world his power, but Zanac believed his answer was petty and asked what Ainz's actual goal was. Ainz, while in thought, considered the path he took in finding his comrades and later caring for his NPCs, revealing that all he strived for was 'happiness'. Zanac asked if he would trample on the happiness of others to achieve his own, which Ainz affirmed, causing the former to nearly outburst in objection, but quickly calmed down. Ainz forgave him, stating he was merely this doing for his nation, which Zanac could relate to and understood him as a fellow ruler. Before parting ways, the two discussed many things, such as who was wielding the late Gazef Stronoff's sword and even the fate of Barbro. After learning from Ainz that he was probably killed by one of his subordinates, Zanac actually thanked the undead for telling him. In the end, he also made Ainz promise to give him and his own countrymen a gentle painless death. Though the two were still enemies, the conversation ended on pleasant terms and it also allowed Zanac to see that there was a human side to the Sorcerer King.

After returning back to his army's side, Zanac informed his subordinates that the Sorcerer King's plan to kill them all was non-negotiable and could not be swayed no matter what he said. As he was coordinating with the minister of military affairs on how to proceed from there, they were ambushed by a group of mercenaries and nobles, who planned to take Zanac's head to the Sorcerer King as a means to appease him. Zanac declared that he was not going down without a fight, pulled out his sword, and dared everyone to try and take it from him by force. His severed head was later given to Ainz Ooal Gown as a gift of their loyalty. The Overlord took it and ordered Albedo to prepare a proper burial for his fellow sovereign. After giving these orders, Ainz told Albedo to take the mercenaries and nobles, along with their families, to Neuronist Painkill for their "reward".[8]

Mass for the Dead Arc[]

Main article: Mass for the Dead Arc

Zanac was present in E-Rantel and attended the second summit meeting of the Tripartite Alliance with his family. At the venue he was introduced to the protagonist who was working as an escort for the royal family. The prince expressed doubts on the adventurer but mostly kept them to himself. When the Slane Theocracy revealed some disturbing revelations about the world, Zanac was skeptical on how true it was. Later when the emperor of the Empire challenged the Kingdom's warriors against his own, Zanac was nervous on how his father's champions would fare. He watched with his family as the adventurers fought against the members of the Four Imperial Knights, Zero and even Fluder Paradyne until the mock battles were called off to address the monster attacking the city.[9]

After the attack on the city was stopped by the protagonist, Zanac personally retrieved the hero from his room in the city and brought him to his father. His father wanted to hire the protagonist to locate Gazef Stronoff who had disappeared while on a mission to locate the source of the Chaos Beasts that attacked the city during the summit meeting. The protagonist accepted the job, though he asked King Ramposa III to consider forming an alliance with his nation. While the conditions for the alliance were standard, Zanac was hesitant to ally with a foreign nation that the Kingdom knew very little.[10]

Once Gazef's location was pinpointed to the Northern Cave, Zanac and his family was informed of the situation. To prevent a panic, the prince made efforts to ensure the Warrior's Captain's disappearance was not leaked.[11] The prince also was there when his father greeted the protagonist after his return and rescue of the Warrior Captain. As his father promised the adventurer would have any reward, which turned out to be the administration rights of the city of E-Rantel. Zanac objected to such a demand as it was outrageous akin to submitting the Kingdom's territory and create an unstable political environment for Tripartite Alliance. The idea though was not out of the question to his sister or father as relinquishing the city would unburden the Kingdom. [12]

When another Chaos Beast horde attacked the city, the first being defeated by the combined armies of the Alliance and a second one coming, the humans were offered reprieve from doom by a being known as Jaldabaoth. When Jircniv accepted the terms of the demon to save the city on behalf of the Alliance, Zanac was shocked alongside many of his peers when the Theocracy responded by pulling out all its forces from the city.[13]

After some disappearances in the territory of Re-Blumrushur began circulating among the nobles Prince Zanac take charge of the investigation to keep it out of his brother Barbro Andrean Ield Ryle Vaiself's ear less he make the situation worse. Given that the rumors of brides going missing involved Marquis Blumrush, Zanac had to handle it delicately as the incident could spark a civil war among the Six Great Nobles. He contracted the help of the protagonist and his team as the leader agreed that the issue needed to be resolved quickly before it affected the unity of Tripartite Alliance. To assist them, he also informed that his sister will send Blue Roses to collaborate with the protagonist.[14]

At the time of his father and older brother's disappearance on a battlefield just outside of E-Rantel, Zanac found himself the de-facto leader of the Kingdom's forces in the city. Though he was distressed by the apparent loss of his father, the prince tried to put up a competent attitude lest he showed weakness. Upon discovering that his family members were not the only ones to have vanished, Zanac attempted to connect with the guards and imperials to launch an investigation and also a joint defense strategy. However all magical communication was cut off within and outside of the city as numerous Cracks began to emerge and countless Chaos Beasts invaded bypassing all barriers in E-Rantel. Zanac relocated his base to outside to coordinate a defense, but met little success as the city's forces and inhabitants were in disarray. The prince saw that the situation got worse when he saw a Crack form in the skies above the city square.[15]

After the attacks on E-Rantel dissipated, Prince Zanac found himself the only royal to be accounted for, as his father and brother were reported to have perished with their corpses missing, while his sister had seemingly vanished to parts unknown. He was left to deal with political aftermath, contending with the scheming nobles who sought to take advantage of the decline of the royals' power. Although he was next in line, Zanac did not crown himself king, as a funeral could not proceed without any bodies, and doing so would earn himself criticism by the nobles of the Kingdom.

During the reconstruction of E-Rantel, Zanac attended the Greetings and Victory Festival which was a holiday from the Sorcerer Kingdom. Upon learning that two celebrated adventurers were attending, he went out to greet them. Initially wanting to meet them discretely, he regardless came with his own guards to personally thank them for coming to the festival to boost the morale of the city. Later is observed the dedication demonstration of the adventurers.[16]

With Marquis Raeven, the prince witnessed in a few months times the reconstruction of E-Rantel along with the implementation of new measures to deal with the new Cracks that formed in the city. The new procedures were spearheaded by the Sorcerer Kingdom and involved the dispersal of the population of E-Rantel to the Kingdom and Empire and quarantine of the Cracks by contingents of undead. The speed and acceptance of the new measures were startling to the prince and Marquis, though they attributed it to the level of trust the people of E-Rantel had with the Sorcerer Kingdom's representative. While the new measure in place were to ensure humanity continued survival, Zanac was quick to note the dispersal of people from E-Rantel would spread the propaganda of the Sorcerer Kingdom and create even more followers to the foreign nation. Not only that, the prince realized that Sorcerer Kingdom's inclusion of demi-humans into the city was a long-term plan to slowly bring the people to accept the undead army which now the Kingdom had to militarily rely on due to manpower shortages.

He understood that it was only a matter of time before the Sorcerer Kingdom subsumed the Re-Estize Kingdom, and while the idea was frightening on the level of machinations by the Sorcerer King to lead to this outcome, Zanac was not adverse to relinquishing political control to the other nation. In his view it was necessary for the continued survival of his people, and if not mankind during the troubling times. Zanac even admitted he was a supporter of the Sorcerer Kingdom's representative and planned to assist in the eventual change in power.[17]

A letter sent by the missing Renner would reach Zanac, who learned that she was hiding near the Great Forest of Tob, setting up a refugee settlement with those who escaped from the E-Rantel during the Calamity of Cracks and was being protected partially by the Wise King of the Forest. The prince needing some help to stabilize the country even with the return of his father who was rescued by Gazef Stronoff was happy to bring her back in the fold. He believed that his sister's absence in the court was a result of being unable to bear Climb's death. The prince sent the elite warriors to the refugee camp. But he lost contact with the group. The prince with his aide Marquis Raeven contacted the Adventurer's Guild to send Blue Roses to investigate.

When the adventurers returned, Zanac learned with a heavy heart that Renner's camp was annihilated by Contaminated Beasts and that she was dead. All he had left was a letter that explained she took her own life before the monsters came for her. In light of this, Zanac ordered that Renner's death be covered up as Rampsa III was still recovering emotionally from the death of Barbo. If the death of Renner was made public, it would devastate not just his father, but the people of E-Rantel who were already celebrating the rebuilding of the city.[18]

At the time of the completion of the mass production of the Chaos Adaptive Equipment, produced by the Sorcerer Kingdom, Prince Zanac with Marquis Raeven and Mayor Panasolei, were preparing a prep rally for the Quadripartite Alliance in a prelude to the upcoming rescue mission to the "other side" of the Crack. For the rally, the prince planned to turn down any noble who attempted to ingratiate themselves on the guest list for the representative side of the Kingdom.

Zanac knew the importance of the rally as it wasn't just to motivate the volunteers of the mission, but give thanks to the man benefactor, the Sorcerer Kingdom and thus wanted to avoid any turmoil from his country's internal politics in overlapping with the Sorcerer Kingdom's inner workings. As to Marquis Raeven's concerns of the Theocracy attending the event, the prince believed they would not dare challenge the Sorcerer Kingdom moment of achieving of greatness at the event. Despite the mayor voicing that they had yet to receive an attendee list from the Theocracy for the auspicious event, Zanac was hopeful for the future as he didn't want to think that there were people in the Alliance who can't honestly celebrate the ceremony.

At the venue of the event, Zanac attended it flanked by Raeven and Gazef where he first started speaking to the assembled people of how close humanity's dream of unity and security against the Cracks was at hand. After letting the other leaders of the Alliance speak like Emperor Jircniv and Cardinal Raymond, the final speaker at the event were two representatives of the Sorcerer Kingdom, Aura and Mare. The prince was impressed by the provoking words by the elves, wondering if it was due to their age of their species or personality. Later he enjoyed mingling with the other delegates at the feast portion of the venue.[19]

END of NON-CANON content

Abilities and Powers[]

Zanac was aware of his incompetence, but he was capable of seeing through the facades worn by his sister and Marquis Raeven. Maruyama himself considers Zanac to be a good ruler on par with Pe Riyuro. Unlike his father, he was more than willing to take a few risks if it meant getting results.

Job Classes[]

Main Equipment[]

Relationships[]

Ramposa III[]

King Ramposa III was Zanac's father. However, the Prince's opinion of him would drastically shift depending on the situation. He admired his charisma and his willingness to self-sacrifice for the sake of his people. He was also worried about his wellbeing when he fell into a depression following Gazef's death.

On the other hand, though, Zanac disliked his father's unwillingness to take risks and make sacrifices for the greater good. In the end, while he never desired to overthrow his father, the Prince finally resorted to a coup d'etat after the King continued to mootlessly seek a diplomatic solution to the conflict with the Sorcerer Kingdom. Zanac still respected his father, but just did not believe he was the right person to handle the situation.

Barbro Andrean Ield Ryle Vaiself[]

Barbro was Zanac's older brother, whom he competed with for the position of heir to the throne of the kingdom. However, rather than a desire for power, he did so out of a genuine belief that he would be a better ruler than his spoiled brother, who would likely only have become a puppet of the nobles or the criminal underworld. Despite this though, the Second Prince did believe his brother to be more charismatic than himself.

Due to their bad relationship, Zanac was actually happy that his brother went missing during the Annual War and was later confirmed dead.

Renner Theiere Chardelon Ryle Vaiself[]

Renner is Zanac's younger sister. He always felt uncomfortable around her and was sometimes terrified by her and her incomprehensible behavior. Zanac described Renner as an unfathomable monster as he knew about her abnormal intelligence and inhumane mindset.

For a long time, he believed that Renner's objective was to destroy the kingdom since it was the cage that kept her imprisoned. However, this changed when he, his sister, and Marquis Raeven spoke openly and he discovered her obsession for Climb.

Renner was Zanac's "ally," under the promise he would allow her and Climb to marry. After becoming crown prince, he began looking to her for advice more often since Raeven retired from politics. However, on the other hand, he kept feeling that he was being manipulated by her and feared that she might revolt and steal the throne from him.

Elias Brandt Dale Raeven[]

Marquis Raeven was Zanac's main supporter in his claim to the throne. He convinced the Marquis to back him when he managed to see through his façade of being a sly opportunist. Despite theirs being a purely professional relationship, the Prince also deeply valued Raeven on a personal level and considered him to be the closest thing he had to a friend.

Unfortunately, Marquis Raeven left the Prince's side after he was traumatized by the Massacre at Katze Plains, which saddened Zanac a great deal. Following the revelation that Raeven had defected to the Sorcerer Kingdom, Zanac was shocked, but understood that it was likely because the Marquis' family was threatened.

Climb[]

Zanac saw Climb as Renner's faithful servant. He once cautioned Climb that his sister was an unfathomable monster, but Climb disregarded his talk about her. Zanac felt pity for Climb after finding out about his sister's fetish.

Ainz Ooal Gown[]

Seeing how he single-handedly drove the Kingdom to the brink of collapse, Zanac wished the Sorcerer King had never appeared in the New World. When he finally met face to face with the Sorcerer King, Zanac was able to see that the undead was far more complicated than what he previously thought. Despite his actions and appearance, he saw that there was still some humanity in the undead. Zanac felt the Sorcerer King was too human and that his actions should not have been the reaction of an undead, the mortal enemy of the living.

During their short talk together, it was apparent to both leaders that they developed a mutual sense of respect and admiration for each other due to the both of them desiring the best for their respective kingdoms. Zanac himself had unknowingly appealed to Ainz’s humanity during their conversation, leading to Ainz amicably agreeing to grant Zanac and his forces as painless a death as possible.

However, after Zanac was killed and his severed head was brought to Ainz as a ”peace offering” by the traitorous nobles of the Kingdom, Ainz showed obvious fury, anger, and hatred for the traitorous noblemen who killed and beheaded Zanac to save their own skins and ordered Albedo to collect the rest of Zanac's body and give him a proper burial despite his usual usage of corpses to make undead, showing an obvious sense of respect for the prince. Ainz then proceeded to order Zanac's murderers (and their families) to be continuously and viciously tortured by Neuronist Painkill for their crime of betraying their prince, before ordering his army to completely annihilate the Kingdom's capital and its people without mercy. This, in turn, further revealed that whatever guilt, mercy, or pity he felt for the Re-Estize Kingdom was finally swept away with Zanac's death due to now seeing that there was no decency left in the kingdom.

Trivia[]

  • On Maruyama's Governing Ranking, the second prince ruler's ability was on par with Pe Riyuro, over the Bafolk Lord Buser, and below Queen Draudillon. Maruyama commented that if the Quagoa Lord possessed more knowledge, he would be superior to Zanac.[20]
  • Zanac was the only royal child who genuinely cared for the Kingdom; Barbro only wanted power and Renner merely pretended to care.

Quotes[]

  • (To Climb warning about Renner): "Listen, Climb. If you were a bigot then I wouldn’t have even bothered to say anything. But I’m giving you a warning since she could be tricking you. She’s a monster."
  • (To Renner): "Is that so. This is your true face. What should I say when you were young, it always felt like something was strange about you, but now I know you’re not normal."
  • (To Renner about Barbro): "Truthfully, our older brother has been receiving some money from the Eight Fingers as well. I wanted to use this as leverage against him, so I went ahead and investigated if they had a safe house in the capital. It seems they indeed do. I want to squeeze this place into the hit list as well."
  • (To Himself): "—ah—how frustrating! Why do I have to plan this out in the first place! If only the Sorcerer Kingdom did not exist! If only that freakishly powerful undead being did not exist"
  • (To Renner): "What do you get out of acting cute in front of your own brother? Go act for Climb instead, he's the one who's gullible."
  • (To his subordinates): "You all, my sister is due to arrive soon, what will I ever do with her? Rejoice, for a break is upon you all. Three hours starting from now. Rest up and return rejuvenated."
  • (To Renner about his father): "It is not that I cannot relate to his desire to settle this through diplomacy, to reduce the number of casualties to the lowest possible, but things have already progressed to a stage where a resolution through diplomacy is no longer possible."
  • (To the Sorcerer King): "I guess so. I do relate to Your Majesty's desire. The pursuit of the betterment of one's own country and a guarantee to one's own countrymen's happiness, that could be said to be the only responsibility of a ruler. If the destruction of our people guaranteed the people of the Sorcerer Kingdom their happiness, I do understand why you did not accept our surrender. I suppose it couldn’t be helped."
  • (To the Sorcerer King): "While I have no intention to forfeit in this battle, I would be eternally grateful if Your Majesty was to use magic that would inflict the least amount of suffering on my people."
  • (To the minister of military affairs about the Sorcerer King): "He was more human than I thought."
  • (After being betrayed by the nobles and soldiers from his side): "Let me say one thing, it is useless for you to take me to him. I, as a member of the royalty, have made up my mind to battle to the end. Those of you who wish to die here, do try!"
  • (To the traitors): "Those who wish to claim my head, come if you dare!!"
  • (To the traitors): "What!? Weren't you all out for blood!? Shouldn't you have at least prepared to dirty your own hands even if you were to force poison down my throat!? Aren't you supposed to have made your resolve?!"
