Variable Talisman (ばりあぶる・たりすまん ) is a guild member of Ainz Ooal Gown and regarded as one of the Forty-One Supreme Beings by the NPCs of the Great Tomb of Nazarick.

Appearance

Variable Talisman wears a large green heavy armor with "守 Mamoru" or (Defend) engraved on his chest. His face is reminiscent of a black centipede.

Personality

Variable Talisman was said to lack any enthusiasm for YGGDRASIL and was more closer to being a mediocre player rather than a gamer. However he enjoyed playing various games as a means to heal from trauma he suffered from painful reality.

Background

Variable Talisman's Emblem

Variable Talisman was once a clan member of Nine's Own Goal founded by Touch Me. For his avatar choice, Variable Talisman selected one of the early races of the game, Centipisturm.

After the dissolution of the clan by Touch Me, it reformed into becoming a guild with the name of Ainz Ooal Gown which Variable Talisman later join shortly after the formation. All the former clansmen including Variable Talisman came to an agreement that Momonga will be their guild member from this moment on.

Alongside them, he took part in the first task after their guild's formation which involved defeating the mysterious dungeon his guild member Nishikienrai discovered. Variable Talisman and his fellow guild members later lay siege to the Great Tomb of Nazarick and eventually conquered it with great difficulty.

The Paladin of the Holy Kingdom Arc

During Ainz's fight with Jaldabaoth and the Demon Maids, he states that if Variable Talisman and Bukubukuchagama were here with him, the backliners would not be getting beaten up.

Abilities and Powers

Alongside Bukubukuchagama, Variable Talisman has also used to play as a tank in Ainz Ooal Gown before quitting the game. He was described as not being good at building his job class, abilities, or techniques. Since his race is more suited to a thief rather than a tank, thus his abilities are second-class.

• Ring of Ainz Ooal Gown: It allows the user to freely teleport between every room inside Nazarick. Every member of Ainz Ooal Gown was required to wear this ring.

Relationships

Bukubukuchagama

Though they were part of the same guild, Bukubukuchagama had an aversion to looking directly at Variable Talisman's face, due to his avatar's unsettling appearance as a centipede.

Peroroncino

When Peroroncino questioned about his kanji on his chest, Variable Talisman teased him if he was attracted to his chest.

Trivia

• He was one of the four members of Ainz Ooal Gown that suggested on conquering one of the nine worlds in YGGDRASIL.
• In a poll made by Maruyama he was one of four characters that the author considered to be introduced in Overlord Volume 15. Variable Talisman won the poll while Genjiro came in second, Garnet came in third and Temperance came in fourth.
