Underground Tomb or as the adventurers refer it, the Legendary Villainous Dungeon, is a facility of the Sorcerer Kingdom built by Mare Bello Fiore.

Background[]

It was made underground on the outer parts within the fortress city of E-Rantel. The underlying process for this facility's creation was done through Mare's method of digging it.

During his discussion with Pluton Ainzach, the Sorcerer King has made it his objective of making this underground tomb a training facility for adventurers.[1] The practical training method to make adventurers become stronger over the course of time was to provide them live combat against monsters who are placed in the facility.

Considering that adventurers need to get used to team combat as a party, Ainz considers it a good idea to build such a labyrinth for them to delve into during their exploration. Nonetheless, the part of the monsters they would be squaring off against are filled by the Great Tomb of Nazarick’s naturally spawned POP undead dispatched there.

Since the facility's staff would be composed of the undead, who did not require salaries, the operating costs would not be too high compared to relying on humans which is deemed as more costly.

Ainz describes the facility to be his top priority in the Sorcerer Kingdom as he is setting it up to be school-like where adventurers can do their training at. If circumstances permitted, he considers also making use of the Adventurer's Guild for the task when the need arise.

He thought the facility would serve as a sign of hospitality to prepare a hostel for the volunteers who had traveled a long distance to seek him out there. The novice adventurer's instructors would be those veteran adventurers who had chosen to remain within the Sorcerer Kingdom and work in the facility.[2]

According to Ainz Ooal Gown, there were no plans to utilize this newly-made facility right away. It was simply because he had the manpower to spare but nowhere to use it.[3]

Later after Ainz's announcement at the Imperial Colosseum, Mare began building a facility that would be structured as a dungeon outside E-Rantel.[4]

Layout & Features[]

The setting of this facility can only be found beneath the surface of the ground as it was dug. Ainz planned to have the facility be given simple stonework through the use of Mare's magic.

Mare's first rendition of the training facility though proved far more lethal than previously anticipated. It included many traps including one that shoot arrows at the entrance, a deep pitfall containing piercing needles, a room that traps people and slowly fills with strong acid, a room containing a pack of undead wolves and undead snakes coming out of the walls.

It was the architect's belief that painful traps produced great lessons, confident of Nazarick's support of its healers to bring back adventurers from the brink of death. Even after some advice from Aura Bella Fiora to lessen the danger level, Mare continued to install greater more dangerous traps, such a spinning blade pillar, a passage way with a crushing iron ball, flammable liquid passages that are ignited by skeletons shooting fire arrows, a door that can only be opened give a switch in hole that also has a guillotine that cuts off a person's hand, skeletons armed with arrows, a large rotary blade that protrudes from the wall to cut the tendons of the leg, a room with a needle ceiling with the exit in an underwater passage containing zombies.

Most of the features were dismantled, and the lethality of the traps were made more lukewarm for adventurers. Though a few traps like the guillotine switch were kept. However the extreme training and obstacles still garnered a lot of fear but also results from the training.[5]

Trivia[]

  • It is also called the Murder Dungeon (殺人 (さつじん) ダンジョン) by Aura due to its lethal traps.
  • Sometime after Volume 10, Zaryusu Shasha was recruited to become an instructor at the training facility.
