Unchu (吽蟲 (ウンチュウ) ) is an insect that guards the personal apartment of Momonga in Mass for the Dead.

Appearance

Unchu is a bipedal Japanese Rhinoceros Beetle. He possesses four arms and a dark carapace.

Chronology

Mass for the Dead Arc

Main article: Mass for the Dead Arc

In order to prepare for an event where invaders raided the 9th Floor and the Floor Guardians were unable to respond, Albedo organized a defense training to simulate such a raid. Unchu and his colleague Achu participated in the drill, serving as guards to the Momonga's personal apartment alongside the Pleiades led by Sebas Tian. Both Unchu and Achu were bypassed by Shalltear Bloodfallen who utilized [Perfect Unknowable] to slip past them and enter into the apartment.

After the drill was over, Unchu attended a review session of the drill led by Momonga and Albedo. Due to the training's success Albedo recommended in continuing raid training at unannounced intervals. He and Achu, and the Eight-Edge Assassins agreed to the proposal.

Much later Albedo, while working as a maid for Momonga was permitted entry in the Overlord's quarters by Unchu and Achu. While everything seemed peaceful they were alerted by the Eight-Edge Assassins in the room calling for help. Rushing to the aid of their fellow guards they found Albedo attempting to sexually force herself on Momonga. Before Achu and Unchu could stop her, she incapacitated him and the other guards.

Unchu later recovered after Shalltear intervened in the incident, saving Momonga from Albedo's clutches. He was present along with Achu and the Eight-Edge Assassins on guard when Albedo was brought before Momonga to stand for her actions.

Due to their lack of action in guarding Momonga's quarters, Unchu and his comrade Achu were beginning to get bored with their assignment. Later after hearing word about the Miyoshi-kun Cup, Unchu and Achu made a request to Momonga so that they could be included in the Cup as obstacles. To sate their warrior spirits, Momonga arranged for the next Cup venue to involve them fighting the Cup contenders.

Unchu and his partner Achu were present in the replica of the Throne Room of Fake Nazarick, attending the start of National Foundation Day Ceremony with the other denizens of Nazarick and the Sorcerer Kingdom.

Abilities and Powers

Not much is known about Unchu's abilities but he wields a crystal tipped spear.

Unchu serves as a loyal guard to the ruler of the Great Tomb of Nazarick.

Achu

Achu is Unchu's usual work partner while guarding the 9th Floor.

• In the Web Novel and Light Novel, a pair of Lord Knights protect Ainz Ooal Gown’s quarters.
• Unchu and his counterpart Achu may be based off Ungyō and Agyō, two deities that were said to guard the Buddha.
