Treasury refers to the treasure vault of the Great Tomb of Nazarick.

Background[]

During Ainz Ooal Gown's golden years as a PK guild and at the peak of its power, the guild amassed a vast fortune of gold and spoils from their conquests and adventures in YGGDRASIL. All of this wealth would later be interned and stored within the Treasury for safekeeping. Its construction and design were handled by Genjiro and Tabula Smaragdina.[1]

Chronology[]

The Bloody Valkyrie Arc[]

Main article: The Bloody Valkyrie Arc

The Treasury was visited by Ainz Ooal Gown after he learned that Shalltear Bloodfallen was affected by a World Item. Faced with this knowledge he retrieved the World Items in the Treasury to give to the Floor Guardians to protect them. Later he permitted Pandora's Actor to leave the Treasury and move all the gold necessary for Shalltear's revival to the Throne Room[1]

The Witch of the Falling Kingdom Arc[]

Main article: The Witch of the Falling Kingdom Arc

When it was learned that a Powered Suit was in the possession of Red Drop, Ainz recalled that the Treasury contained a few sets of these and wanted to go down there to check on them.[2]

Layout[]

The Treasury does not appear in the directory of the floors of the Great Tomb of Nazarick, and could be considered a separate floor by itself in Nazarick. It exists in a separate spatial plane that can only be accessed using the Rings of Ainz Ooal Gown.

Furthermore, every treasure Ainz Ooal Gown owns or acquires through the guild's various activities has its respective place in the Treasury. Treasures of importance are kept in different categories, ranging from armors, weapons, jewelry, auxiliary tools, consumables, manufacturing goods, etc. This makes them easily accessible to guild members.

In addition, within the Treasury lies the Nazarick maintenance room and data crystal storage room both extremely important places.

Features[]

Entrance[]

Treasury (Mass for the Dead)

Treasure Hall

The entrance to the Treasury begins at the Treasure Hall, a gallery that contains a limitless ceiling and is literally filled with mountains of treasure. While the enormous quantities of gold and luxurious items may appear staggering, the items placed here are considered to be of little value compared to what is locked further in the vaults.

While so, flying is the only way to cross the mountains of gold effectively towards the gate that leads into the deep recesses of the Treasury. The "Blood of Jormungandr" an unknown item, produces a poison cloud that renders the surrounding air highly toxic to prevent thieves from trespassing. If one does not possess any abilities or tools capable of countering this toxicity, they would drop dead within three steps.

The Door to the Treasury[]

[“With great sagacity it doth ascend gently from Earth to Heaven. Again it doth descend to Earth, and uniteth in itself the force from things superior and things inferior.” ~Holmyard, Alchemy, p.95]

The Gate

On the other side of the chamber was a recess in the wall, that is in the shape of a door, but looks like a bottomless pit. The door could only be opened by a predetermined password. Though perhaps with high level magic or a special skill from the rogue class, one could force their way through this door.

The Armory[]

Armory (Mass for the Dead)

Armory

A hundred meter long tunnel behind the Door of the Treasury. It was an orderly place, similar to a museum. The dimly-lit room was very long and stretched inward, the ceiling was about five meters above the ground, having not been designed for humans, while it was about ten meters from one wall to the other. The ground was made of tightly-fit, shiny black stone block, and it looked like a single gigantic stone slab. Neat rows of countless weapons were arrayed on the walls to the left and right, making it an impressive display. The types of weapons in the Armory was almost uncountable as contained within were broadswords, greatswords, estocs, flamberges, scimitar, patas, shotels, kukris, claymores, short swords, sword breakers, one-handed axes, two-handed axes, one-handed-bludgeons, javelins, bows, crossbows etc. In addition, there were almost so many unrealistic weapons that stretched the definition of being called weapons. There were weapons that could not be possibly sheathed or were more decorative than useful which included the majority. Almost none of the paraphilia were made of anything as ordinary as steel. Such as a sword with a blade of blue crystal, a pure-white sword with gold inlays and engravings, a black sword with purple characters along its body and even a bow that seemed to have been strung with pure light. Then there were other weapons that looked dangerous such as a two-handed axe whose blade constantly dripped fresh blood, a gigantic mace that had tormented faces appearing and vanishing on its black metal, a lance that resembled human hands clasping each other, a sword whose blade flickered like a flame or even a sword whose blade looked like whip and wriggled like a centipede. Most of the weapons were magic weapons, but the exact effect of each of them was a mystery.

The Lobby[]

Lobby (Mass for the Dead)

Lobby

A location at the end of the tunnel of the Armory to receive guests. A tomb-like rectangular room that was composed of a table and sofa set in the middle of the empty space. There were other passages visible to the left and right similar to the path from the Armory. The height of the room was about about five meters, but the dim interior extended further in, where a large niche was set into the wall which was where the Mausoleum is located.

The Mausoleum[]

Avatara 01

Mausoleum Hallway

When each member of Ainz Ooal Gown began to silently retire from YGGDRASIL, every one of them relinquished possession of their personal items and weapons to Momonga as throwaway. The Mausoleum was built by him in honor of those guild members, and acts as a special shrine to them. While all of the guild members' personal equipment are stored here, the great golden stone statues known as Avatara equip those items in their likeness as an honor to them.

Avataras are golems who act as the guardians of the guild members' relics they're equipped with. Additionally, the mausoleum has a special defense mechanism that will only activate should a ring bearer of the Ring of Ainz Ooal Gown were to enter its range or premises. The golems will then awaken and attack the ring bearer, using the very weapons formerly possessed by the guild members of Ainz Ooal Gown. Therefore, one must enter without having on a Ring of Ainz Ooal Gown in order to bypass the activation of the final defense mechanism. Past this place is where Pandora's Actor dwells.

Trivia[]

  • The Treasury was actually built as place was meant to be a secret base just for the Pandora's Actor and his creator to hang out there.[3]
  • The Mausoleum was originally named as the Innermost Sanctum of the Treasury, but Momonga renamed it and re-purposed it, in memory of his comrades.[1]
  • According to Ainz, he had only come here when paying for the upkeep costs of Nazarick with the money he had earned, and that had been years ago before his arrival in the New World.[1]
  • Tabula Smaragdina was somewhat unsatisfied with the security measure of the door inside the Treasury, as it was only protected by a simple password. Hence he began to experiment to see if he could implement a voice-recognition feature, by testing it out at the Shazai Kaiken.[4]
