Treants (トリエント) are sapient trees that live in the forests of the New World and YGGDRASIL.

Background

Similar to dryads, treants are a part of nature and attuned with it. However, that is not always the case, as there existed at least one treant that favored destruction over the preservation of nature.

Appearance

Treants have the appearance of leafless humanoid trees with the capacity for movement.

Abilities

Treants can use their tree-like appearance to blend with the environment and absorb nutrition from the earth, like dryads. But unlike dryads that are anchored to their birth tree, treants are able to independently move from one location to another on their own accord. Possibly due to this, they are corporeal beings rather than non-corporeal as is the case with forest sprite type creatures. Thus, they are no doubt stronger than their kin of the forests.

Trivia

• The treants along with the dryads are one of the first indigenous tribes of the New World to migrate to the 6th Floor of Nazarick.
• Treants love clean water and sunlight, and they only attack humans in self-defense.
• In Mass for the Dead, several treants were drained of their nutrients killing them. Their dead forms were made into thralls for the Supreme Odor Flower.
• After the incident with the Supreme Odor Flower, Demiurge collected the seeds from the tree and used them to experiment and create different strains of treants. Most with similar abilities and one so small that it's about the size of Aura and Mare. One of the treants is an evergreen conifer treant which is cut down to be used as a Christmas Tree decoration for Nazarick's Christmas party.
• It was said that treants were the ones that taught the dark elves of the Great Forest of Tob on the method of using odor repellents to deter away magical beasts before they were forced to move to the Great Forest of Evasha.
