Transcendent Chocolate Factory (超越者のチョコレート工場) is a game event in Mass for the Dead that was released on January 31, 2025 to February 14, 2025.
Background[]
Chocolate sweets made in the Sorcerer Kingdom are steadily establishing themselves as a specialty of the E-Rantel Adventurer's Guild.
Perhaps noticing their presence and rarity, a "certain request" was brought to the Adventurers' Guild from the Baharuth Empire...[1]
Incident[]
In the Great Tomb of Nazarick, on the 5th floor, the Glacier. In one corner of the floor, in a cute, fairy-tale-like mansion, right now...a large number of undead were at work in a certain room.
The room was filled with the sweet smell of chocolate. A pair of elder liches and a pair of skeletons are a work making chocolate. Albedo in her Naked Apron addresses the Tempering Lich to keep tempering in order to achieve the ultimate smooth melt-in-your-mouth texture. While another lich, Temperature Lich is ordered to maintain the fireplace, not to neglect controlling the room temperature and to be careful not to let the sweet get too hot or too cold. One of the skeletons is then told to cut out the shapes in the chocolate sheets. While the second skeleton is told to send the batch to the next undead in the assembly line.
Cocytus in his chocolatier equipment is in awe at the stream-line efficiency as more chocolates keep coming out one after another. Momonga overseeing the operation declares it’s all working well. Now the work done by undead will free up the general maids from the task of making chocolate to sell to the Adventurer's Guild. In fact the undead are comparable to golem and suited for repetitive, monotonous work.
Albedo lauds Momonga for this idea, using the template of having the general maids and the Head Chef following the listed procedures one by one like this... thus now creating the perfect "Chocolate Factory"! Cocytus jokes that corpses can be used for friendship building calling the endeavor a wonderful experiment. But Momonga has some concerns over the technical side, so for now it would be best to have them check again to see if there are any problems.
Cocytus then suggests inviting some general maids over, which his liege leaves to him. Once the Floor Guardian departs, Momonga is has hopes that if the Sorcerer Kingdom can mass-produce chocolate successfully, they will be able to sell more and earn more currency. If all goes well, the nation might even be able to offer a discount for a limited time. The pair of skeletons are noticed by Momonga to have chocolate on their face likely due to some of the chocolate flying when they were mixing. To remedy this Momonga thinks they should take a bath, but since they are in the Glacier would that be suitable?
Skeletons bow their eye sockets popping with admiration, until they are pushed aside by Albedo she can be his focus, showing him that she has some chocolate on herself. Before she can invite herself to bath with him, Aura and Mare donned in their chocolatier costumes appear. Aura seeing the chocolate in her face unaware of the allure Albedo was trying to do with Momonga, comes over to wipe it off with a towel. Hearing a muffled protest Aura asks if she could say that again, but Albedo just gives up.Mare shows that he had brought lots of chocolate ingredients to Momonga. Momonga pleased by this the welcomes the twins to the Nazarick Chocolate Factory.
On the same day, as always, a certain guest was visiting the private chambers of the Emperor, Jircniv Rune Farlord El-Nix, in the Imperial Palace in the Imperial Capital, Arwintar. Osk having been summoned by the emperor asks how he enjoyed the match the other day. One response Jircniv proclaims it was a great success, adding that the appearance of the new fighters was also a good entertainment. He, as well as the other visitors from the other countries, were impressed by the prosperity of the arena and enjoyed it. Especially the Prime Minister of the Sorcerer Kingdom who seemed to be extremely interested, as she was staring intently at what was going on. Jircniv expresses his wish that Osk could have seen it.
Osk is glad that everyone liked the match. Osk is told by Jircniv of how much the emperor highly values his management skills, explaining this to be the reason by the promoter has been given some financial support since the Calamity of Cracks, but if he ever needs help, Osk is free to come and talk to him. For the Grand Arena will not just be an entertainment facility, but a unique place that symbolizes the Empire. Osk thanks the emperor for his words, beforing adding that are recently, a theater company wanted to do a performance for children at the arena, but they were worried about not being able to set the admission fee too high for a performance aimed at children.
Jircniv hearing this understands that this kind of entertainment will be for the "mental recovery” of the children. So he asks what the show will be like before offering he will provide some sponsorship money if necessary. Seeing that His Majesty gets the idea he tells him that the play, is about a story in which the "Dark Hero" joins hands with His Majesty as he bravely confronts the devil. A show titled - "Guide to Humanity"! This flamboyant title earns gregarious laugh from the emperor. To him history is something that is revised and beautifully colored by those who survive. This he thinks he should let the people know about his authority and promising to give Osk the sponsorship money for the production.
To that he will have his secretary, Loune Vermillion, sort out the paperwork later. Tell the theatre company that I'll be there too. I'm looking forward to a good show.
Still, Jircniv notes that it to be unusual for a combat-nut like Osk to rent out the arena to a theater company. So another question he raises on who the famous theater company is. The merchant explains that the theater troupe is made up of famous bards, but the truth is, the arena is having a bit of a shortage of personnel for fights.
This shocks Jircniv has he thought in the last conversation Osk said that recently, many of the fighters had recovered from the miasma contamination. Osk explains that they are trying to do that, but unlike the arena matches of the past, these events do not involve life-or-death fights, and as a result, the audience's interest has changed from its previous explosiveness. And while His Majesty thoroughly enjoyed it, the truth is that some people felt it was "not enough".
Jircniv sees the situation, considering that is one way of looking at it. In the past, it wasn't just fights between gladiators, but also fights between gladiators and vicious monsters that were quite exciting. Osk concurs, as in the past skilled adventurers would put rampaging monsters into cages and bring them to the arena, the townspeople would look forward to the next performance. However, nowadays there are no more life-risking battles, and therefore no longer are the Adventurer’s Guilds asked to capture violent monsters. Monsters that are too dangerous can be life-threatening. This - so to speak—— a "lax" situation which is eventually conveyed to those "willing" to become fighters, and the number of people gathering is gradually decreasing.
That being said, Jircniv sees that it would be bad to go back to the old ways of risking life and death. Humans have a tremendous amount of "energy" to begin with which Osk is in agreement. In times of peace, there may be room to unleash that energy through life-or-death entertainment, but in times of emergency like the present, needlessly risking one's life or death is probably evil.
But there are other places where lives are at stake, right? Osk finds that certainly true, but...that being said, it is not so easy to obtain anything more than the pleasure of overcoming "life and death". Therefore, as a last resort, Jircniv surmised that’s why Osk decided to let the theater company use the arena. Osk smiled somewhat tiredly and reached for a piece of candy on the table. Jircniv was also drawn to it and reached for the sweets, and after tasting them, the two of them sighed as if their tension had been released. The merchant comments that the candy is not bad to have with tea, and tastes great. The sweet turns out to be Healthy Blood Marriage which Jircniv tells Osk that it's chocolate, a specialty of the Sorcerer Kingdom. To their merchant he finds it beautiful, as the red color stands out and it gives off a refreshing impression, like ripe fruit.
Jircniv encourages Osk to eat as much as he likes. One of the Four Knights, Gale, Nimble Dale Anoch, likes to hold tea parties, so he does errands in E-Rantel and he always buys the food item as a sweet treat for his guests. Apparently it's a healthy dish that uses red vegetables and is popular with customers. He said it was on sale at the time, so he bought a lot of it as a souvenir. Vegetables turned sweet is taken in as a novelty to the merchant, citing the delicacy has no noticeable bitterness. And thinks it will be popular with nobles who are concerned about their figure. It seems that way. And Jircniv adds that some people want chocolate from a different angle, and that it's a really great invention.
On the matter of the different angle, according to the protagonist, chocolate was also used as a tonic, and some of the Kingdom's nobles apparently use it for similar purposes. Osk sees now, finding amusement that the nobles of the Kingdom really do come up with some very original ideas. In other words, chocolate being a tonic is mostly a way of saying it’s used for sexual desire. Which the merchant surmises give the level of thinking of the nobles who have never experienced a purge. As Osk listened to Jircniv's story, a sudden idea occurred to him, and he quickly simulated it using the merchant part of his true nature.
Later on a fine afternoon, the protagonist had been summoned to the E-Rantel Adventurer's Guild by the Adventurer's Guild leader, Pluton Ainzach. The guildmaster wanted to inform the adamantite adventurer that the chocolate products, one of the specialties of the Sorcerer Kingdom, have expanded considerably, with new products such as Golden Chocolate In A Bottle, Chilled Chocolate Confectionary and Chocolate Drinks.
Hearing that the homunculus thanks the guildmaster for keeping these products on the counter. Doppel-Slimeko comments at seeing people walking around drinking chocolate drinks. Ainzach explains that although the sales aren't as explosive as when a new product is released, it has become a regular staple that sells well. The guild also enjoys the sales commission it receives. The limited-time discount that was proposed this time has been very effective, and we are seeing great sales. So, he thinks it may be time to move on to the "next stage". This is just what he thinks, but asks what the protagonist thinks.
This has to do with what are the plans for a new chocolate item, N.A. d as the guildmaster suggests he is wondering about "expanding sales channels." Doppel-Slimeko realizes that Ainzach wants people here and there to sell it. For the protagonist this is going exactly as Momonga intended. Ainzach says that it’s not that they plan to sell to organizations outside the Adventurer's Guild or to other merchants...just only to spread the word about what the guild sell and increase the number of people visiting their place.
The protagonist asks if the guildmaster is planning on promoting chocolate sweets in other cities too. So far currently, chocolate sweets are only sold by the E-Rantel Adventurer's Guild. Ainzach assumes that's to cover the running costs of the guild and to recruit people who want to become adventurers. He is correct as the protagonist expands on the reason for it is that if the main purpose is to obtain operating funds, they can avoid complaints, jealousy, and interference from other guilds and unexpected sources. After all the Adventurer’s Guild is not a merchant's organization.
It could not have been said better as Ainzach says that nowadays, most of the purchases are made by adventurers who come here, or by clients who use them as a tip. So, even without any advertising, the chocolate sweets are selling well. However, the fact that they are gathering people who want to become adventurers is a problem. In terms of promoting the Adventurer's Guild itself, just having it here may not be enough. That's why Ainzach thought it would be nice to sell chocolate snacks in conjunction with the advertisement for recruiting adventurers. Hence the pursuit of "expanding sales channels"!
The protagonist considers the idea if they were to use the chocolate sweets as advertising material elsewhere to widely recruit volunteers from outside E-Rantel, but he has concerns. Depending on how they advertise, it may not end with just the Adventurer's Guild, and they may need to ask for help from other organizations, companies, etc. If that happens--the protagonist thinks it is also necessary to take into consideration the possibility that new ties will arise, expenses will be incurred due to the use of manpower, and the guild may suffer certain losses as a result.
Ainzach admits he does not know such things as he is not a businessman, so it's pointless for me to say anything. Doppel-Slimeko really wonders if selling the chocolate at the Adventurer's Guild's doorstep would not be enough. To which the guildmaster says that even if they sold it at the guild, it would only end up in the hands of people who have the option of joining the Adventurer's Guild. The trio are left with a problem on how they can avoid hurting the guild's finances as much as possible which Ainzach is grateful for him getting involved in the matter. The protagonist needs to give this some thought. And so, he returned to Nazarick, grinning at how the guildmaster had begun to run beautifully on the rails that Momonga had laid out.[2]
After returning to Nazarick, the protagonist had no time to catch his breath and immediately hurried to the Round Table Room, and reported to Momonga and the others about the situation with Ainzach. Albedo and Demiurge are pleased, having expected the guildmaster to say he wanted to sell the chocolate elsewhere too. This is good for the Sorcerer Kingdom this positive trend means they stand to make a profit.
With the limited-time discount proposed by Momonga, the protagonist is certain that some people gave the chocolates to friends and others bought them in bulk, and while sales were brisk——-there seems to be a gradual spread of chocolate sweets, and things were moving perfectly according to Momonga's plan.
Momonga doesn’t really know what “his” plan is, but...all he knows is that he got ahold of a large amount of chocolate ingredients, and established a mass production system using the undead in line production. His involvement was just suggesting about offering a limited discount to promote it, but all in all he is glad it went well. Plus this chocolate is made from the ideas of the children that his comrades all created, so he’s happy if it sold well.
A query on whether the protagonist has got his sights set on a place to advertise is asked by Momonga. Sadly the protagonist reports that the Adventurer's Guild leadership wasn't particularly knowledgeable about such things and didn't express any particular preference for a location. Even though he is being manipulated by Momonga, Albedo claims that it was ultimately just a thoughtless, haphazard idea for a human. Even if he wasn’t a merchant, if the man used his head a little, he could probably come up with some options.
However, thanks to the idea, Demiurge says they can naturally prepare a suitable place as it would be easy to adjust it as they like. The protagonist too, thought it would be troublesome if the Adventurer's Guild guildmaster pointed out the location inappropriately, explaining why he returned without digging too deep into the issue. As for the homunculus—--first of all, he thinks it would be good to do it an "Adventurer's Guild" and a "place where adventurer activity is thriving" in a "populous city." Albedo worries that there is a possibility that other Adventurer’s Guilds will be jealous of the E-Rantel branch.
Momonga likens the issue a bit like stealing customers. There is probably a labor shortage that all the other guilds are facing, and it could be a problem if the guilds think that they are doing this through the Sorcerer Kingdom's brokers. At worst, they might be accused of violating the unwritten rule of not getting involved in politics, and the protagonist’s position might be lost as a result. The thing that Albedo thinks they need to be most careful of is for the Adventurer’s Guilds might start to fighting among themselves. If the guilds don't function properly in times of emergency and it weakens the Re-Estize Kingdom, and will cause the Sorcerer Kingdom to lose credibility.
The protagonist was also concerned about this, and concluded that it would be better to do it somewhere where there is an Adventurer's Guild. On why to satisfy Aura’s curiosity, the homunculus explains that E-Rantel has now grown into a city where the elite of each country gather. There are many opportunities for adventurers to cooperate with each other on rescue missions within the Cracks or to defeat Chaos and Contaminated Beasts, so for new and mid-level adventurers——E-Rantel is recognized as a place where, in exchange for the risks, one can gain great opportunities to improve one's abilities.
Demiurge point that there are not many cities that can afford to train new adventurers. For those cities, there is a latent desire to send them to E-Rantel and have them return once they have gained a certain level of ability.
Mare murmurs that if that's the case, then why aren't adventurers from other guilds being sent to E-Rantel? This is because, the protagonist elaborates, there are many newcomers and aspiring adventurers who consider the "danger" part to be important, and the city or its guild cannot force them to go to E-Rantel.
Aura boils it down that most feel it’s risky, as they are scared to die, and probably there are adventurers who just want to do easy work in a friendly guild.
Albedo now understands that there are actually many cities that want new recruits and applicants to join the E-Rantel Adventurer's Guild of their own accord. And why the protagonist came back without letting the guildmaster say much?
Furthermore, the protagonist aims to also work to establish a system of communication and cooperation in each city within the Kingdom and Empire to dispatch skilled personnel from E-Rantel in the event of an emergency.
Which then to Momonga would lead to chances of seeds of discord growing between the cities are low. So, this time, the protagonist decided to do some promotional activities in a place where there is an Adventurer's Guild, and work together to boost the adventurer business.
Aura asks what about people who want to be adventurers but don't want to go to the dangerous E-Rantel? In that case, Demiurge thinks all the protagonist needs to do is have them join the local Adventurer's Guild. In the event of an emergency, they will send in personnel. Mare worries if they will really come in the event of an emergency. After all humans are inferior life forms...so he doesn’t know if they'll keep their promises.
The protagonist reminds Mare that humans are subject to a psychological law known as the "principle of reciprocity" which states that if something is given to them, they must give something back in return, so agreements made between guilds will likely be kept. That does not apply to a Supreme Being like Momonga, who doesn't need to give anything back just because one has done him a favor, but it seems that humans run their society on this "give and take" basis.
Just to let his subordinates know, Momonga states that he does believe in returning favors. His thoughts are nothing but appreciation for his own subordinates, as they went to great lengths to build a production line, so he wants them to make full use of it, and above all, if it can increase their chances of earning foreign currency, they should do so. Momonga states they have plenty of chocolate in stock, and the mass production system for sales was in place. Thus they should be determined not to miss this golden opportunity to advertise their chocolate confectionery.
Albedo is glad they found out that they could make the raw materials for chocolate in the Cauldron of the Daghdha, thus preventing waste of Nazarick’s resources. Furthermore, as Demiurge adds, they still have the large amount of chocolate that they bought in exchange for the Chaos Stones. Per Momonga’s instruction for them not to waste Nazarick's human resources--the Chocolate Factory is now complete, and all that's left is for the humans is to dance as planned.
Momonba then tells the protagonist and Doppel-Slimeko to go and discuss this with the Adventurer's Guild guildmaster again. Around the time the protagonist had left Nazarick, Soi had finished a request in the surrounding area and returned to the E-Rantel Adventurer's Guild. Waiting for her there was the receptionist, who looked pale-faced.
Almost immediately when the adventurers enter the lobby, the receptionist is frantic, relieved that she has return to the guild. So bewildered by the desperate looking attitude of the other woman asks what's going on, as something seems off. Ignoring her question the receptionist pulls Soi inside the guild as it’s a matter of national emergency, and that she needs to see the guildmaster. Soi still tries to get more information on what is going on, but by this point the receptionist is pushing towards the guildmaster’s office. While Soi is dismayed by this, she realizes that the conversation must be serious and cannot be spoke in public. So she proceeds to go see Ainzach. The receptionist guides her to the upstairs room and there finds a Ainzach grateful to see her. Ainzach the pleads to Soi to ask the protagonist if chocolate made in the Sorcerer Kingdom can be used as a "prize". Confused Soi asks for more clarification on the request. Ainzach then gives her a story of how an acquaintance, Osk sought him out to promote the guild. While Ainzach does not mind cooperating with the promoter, he asks if Osk wants to ask the adventurers to capture monsters as part of the promotion.
Osk disagrees as if Ainzach wanted to do that, the guild over at Arwintar can do it. This time, the merchant t came to ask for something that can only be done in E-Rantel. Osk gets to the point. He wants to use chocolate made in Sorcerer Kingdom as a prize! With an apology for the sudden visit, as Ainzach is so busy, but had to see him in person for this conversation to progress.
Ainzach though is unsure as this is something he cant decide on his own, so even if Osk came in person, all he can say is that he will get back to him later. That is fine to Osk. All Ainzach has to do is cooperate with the "fighter recruitment promotional match" and provide the chocolate sweets he has here in E-Rantel as prizes. In addition to the usual rewards for joining the guild, if an adventurer participates in the arena mock battle, Osk will promise them an exceptional reward or equivalent preferential treatment.
Ainzach is surprised on the inferred offer of a huge salary, though asks if he approached the Arwintar Adventurer’s Guild. It’s actually just normal values, but Osk believes that if they recruit warriors in such a small world, the contestants will be the same every time. There's no risk of losing a life now. He’d really appreciate it if E-Rantel could send a warrior to participate too.
And while he can't say this too loudly, but... unofficially, Osk tells Ainzach that His Majesty the Emperor is aware of this matter. Ainzach asks if this will involve a situation where the Adventurer's Guild would have to mediate something that involves the leaders of another country. Osk argues the guild is already doing just that, since chocolate belongs to the Sorcerer Kingdom. Even though it’s the Adventurer's Guild, it could be said that Ainzach is trying to use it for political purposes, despite saying "It's the Sorcerer Kingdom that decided this, not us." Seeing what he means, Ainzach deduces that the "unprecedented reward," meant Osk is planning on giving them a large cut of the profits to use as a wording fee and cover-up fee for helping him establish a connection with the Sorcerer Kingdom?
Osk does not deny this, leaving Ainzach amazed at how merchants like Osk spend money. The comment is taken as a compliment. Ainzach states that he shouldn't praise Osk for that. He apologizes still as he cannot concede to this request as the issue involves the Sorcerer Kingdom, so he can't give him an answer right now. Osk only asks that Ainzach to please respond as soon as possible. As it would trouble if he grew old and lost interest in the arena. Ainzach jokes that day will never come, knowing Osk’s love for the clashing of swords and fists, and will for the rest of his life.
In response Osk laughs, wishing he had even a shred of talent for hand-to-hand combat. Before Osk leaves the merchant suggests they get a drink next time they meet. And the guildmaster promises he will be waiting and also to next time contact him beforehand. Ainzach now, alone finds the conversation he had with Osk to be a problem. But since it's a request from the Emperor, and it involves the Sorcerer Kingdom, then it's up to the country to decide whether to accept or refuse. So it would be best if the guild could use chocolate as a prize, but—is infuriated that the meddling Osk brought this to him. His complaining is heard by the receptionist who enter, asking if everything is alright. Rather than answer he orders her to call Soi right away. When the woman is not complying with his order as fast as he hoped, Ainzach tells her it’s a national issue, light her feet on fire to fetch the female adventurer.
The story ends and Ainzach has brought Soi up to date on the situation. Earlier, Ainzach admits that Osk couldn't help but press him, in asking if he could give him chocolate as a prize, but...due to his deal with the Sorcerer Kingdom it puts him in a spot. The guildmaster personally doesn’t mind turning down this request but he’s worried about the emperor behind Osk over there in the Empire. Even if the guild refuses, it would be rude to not come up with a "plausible excuse" for the other party. Thus he would like to borrow Soi’s wisdom on this to make an "excuse" as soon as possible...
As the two oldsters got busy on their own, and had no choice to wait for a response, Soi assures him it is alright and to remain calm as she will handle this. As Soi left the room once again, the grateful Ainzach watched her go with tired eyes.[3]
On the carriage heading to the Empire, Soi and the protagonist sat face to face. Their destination is Arwintar, to meet a specific person at an inn. Soi while not very familiar with the Empire, decides to leave her trust in the homunculus. That aside she expresses how she is impressed with Momonga. The feeling is mutual, commenting on how it is amazing how humans have fallen into Momonga's trap and are now acting like this.
As it turns out when the protagonist previously met with the relieved Ainzach, who explained about his worries on the current issue, that if relations between the Empire and the Sorcerer Kingdom were to deteriorate, it would be a major problem, and just thinking about it makes his heart pound. From what the protagonist heard the client right now is Osk. Though Ainzach says that only on the surface. Which is odd the protagonist has he hasn’t received any particular communication from him, so the homunculus asks if the guildmaster is sure that His Majesty the Emperor is on the other side of the negotiations.
Ainzach explains that the Grand Arena has always been a place where people could watch life-or-death fights, but due to the current situation, it seems gladiators are now forbidden from fighting in life-or-death battles as fighters. After that, the number of applicants for the fighters seems to have decreased. It seems the Emperor doesn't want the arena to lose its popularity. And while the guildmaster doesn’t know the full details, he doesn’t think Osk is lying.
This brings back a memory of the protagonist having once visited the Empire as a national envoy, and the Emperor showed him the arena, calling it the best place to see. If His Majesty the Emperor had directly and officially asked him to "help enliven the Grand Arena," then he would be afraid that what he had shown the protagonist during the Imperial inspection would seem like a sham and be taken away by another country. Now the protagonist understands both the reason for it being unofficial and using the arena as a method to reach out. In the present, Solution thinks the whole things is a convincing performance. convincing performance. With the truth is that the emperor contacted the protagonist directly, at the expense of guildmaster.
It is all understandable, as the appearance of the Emperor of a country personally bowing to the protagonist, who is merely the on-site manager of another country, above the heads of the Arena and the Adventurer's Guild, would attract some bad publicity. So guesses that it could lead to headlines like "The protagonist’s privatization of the E-Rantel Adventurer's Guild", "The Emperor's blind infatuation with Archa", "The Sorcerer Kingdom turning the Empire into a vassal state" etc. It would destabilize the internal situation of the Empire, and could even create an opening in the anti-imperial encirclement. It was necessary to keep the secret dealings a secret even from Pluton Ainzach.
To have been able to decipher this much from the reports they submitted and lead the Emperor on the right track is truly impressive to Soi on Momonga’s wisdom. Her sentiments are shared by the homunculus finding their master to be truly a man of divine calculation and cunning. To those like Ainzach it was a headache, but it is a minor issue to Momonga. The protagonist even recalls the events that led to this. Starting out when he saw exacerbated face of the guildmaster complaining how unreasonable it was to ask a mere Adventurer's Guild to take such circumstances into consideration, all while cursing out Osk.
Ainzach confirmed to the homunculus that Osk said he wanted to cooperate in a "fighter recruitment promotional match" and use their exclusive chocolate snacks as prizes.——-However, if the Sorcerer Kingdom wants to refuse cooperation with the chocolate confectionery, the Adventurer's Guild is planning to refuse it first. Of course, they can't just flat out reject the idea——-so Ainzach would like the protagonist to help him think of an excuse. Anyway, the protagonist promised to talk to his superiors about it and then reply to him. This is fine course. As the guildmaster would like to make Osku wait as long as he likes, since he's the one who's brought all this trouble after all.
Then when the protagonist brought this to Momonga at the Round Table me Room, Momonga felt that no matter how important one is, it's still tough to have to do cold calling. Given that Osk is a well-known merchant, and he must have known that going in without prior preparation would not have a very high chance of success... but he was dealing with a friend, so maybe he thought it might work out. Solution said that ultimately, it's just a matter of human convenience, so she guesses it's okay to refuse. Albedo chuckles at this notion by Solution, as she wasn’t at the last meeting. As it so happens Momonga had accounted for this situation, much to Solution, and Momonga’s bewilderment.
Momonga is clueless to what they are talking about. But allows Demiurge to speak for his supposed actions. In that Momonga did not simply offer to sell a large amount of chocolate at a discount. He spread the bait and waited for the prey to bite and catch a big fish.
The protagonist is in awe at such a marvelous ingenuity from his master, as he himself was surprised when he received a message from the Emperor. Momonga slightly embarrassed being called a genius claims that to true. And that if discounts put chocolate in the hands of people who normally wouldn’t buy it, it’s inevitable that an unexpected chemical reaction will occur.
That being the case the protagonist asks if it would it be okay if they lend a hand to Osk this time - no, to the emperor - and offer chocolate as a prize in the arena? The Overlord is all for the ideas as it would be best to show the emperor their gratitude through the principle of reciprocity.
Since the emperor considers the Grand Arena a symbolic place of the Empire, it's only natural that he would want to keep it lively. If the Sorcerer Kingdom could lend a hand, even if unofficially--the emperor will likely become increasingly devoted to the Sorcerer Kingdom.
Which according to Demiurge would be advantages as humans love to share secrets. Now, that they have the opportunity to advertise, Momonga wants to address one of Ainzach’s worries that be they we should get someone else besides the protagonist and Soi to make the most of this opportunity. The selection of their agents soon begins, as the humans were being entangled in Momonga's schemes, the Floor Guardians laughed with glee. All while Momonga extinguished the light in his eyes, as if to hide his shock.
Back in the carriage, and the present, the protagonist says he was fortunate he was able to request a meeting with Osk just in time for his visit to the Empire. So though asks if "that person" already arrived, which the homunculus answers to be probably. After the carriage tide, the protagonist is visiting Osk’s mansion. The two reintroduce themselves and then begin talks about the chocolate promotion.
Osk is thankful that the Territory Guardian has come and using his business in the Empire to personally see him. As he told Ainzach he explains he is planning to hold a friendly tournament soon as a way to advertise and recruit new fighters. In the friendly matches, he is planning to have those who wish to participate fight against guests invited by the arena. And that he’d like to give chocolate made in the Sorcerer Kingdom as a prize to the winners.
Given that the Grand Arena has long been run by the Empire as a national policy, and it also seems to function as a place to boost the morale of its subjects, so it's understandable that they would want to liven things up. Osk is glad his guest understands the arena well as being able to help the Empire. After the Calamity of Cracks, they also recruited those who were revived from the contamination as fighters. It has been very helpful in terms of boosting morale. However, it is true that the matches are no longer focused killing each other like before, but more like friendly matches, and there is a lack of spirit.
The protagonist says he actually saw what he means. It was during a friendly match between Go Gin, the Martial Lord and guests——adamantite adventurers like him and workers with considerable abilities. Osk says that match was quite exciting, but sometimes they have matches against monsters that aren't too vicious. As the protagonist can imagine, the arena is a national undertaking, so he really wants this fighters recruitment match to be a success!
The homunculus understands the promoter’s enthusiasm. But he has one question: Why did he choose chocolate made in his country as the prize? Osk explains that at the moment chocolate products are almost exclusively sold by the E-Rantel Adventurer's Guild, so they are rare and valuable, making them perfect prizes, and he thought they would also have a great advertising effect.
Osk states that he was invited to the Imperial Palace by emperor, and by chance he had the opportunity to taste some chocolate. That's how he came up with the idea.
The protagonist promises he will definitely bring this news back to his country and report it to his superiors. And he will also make any necessary preparations on the Sorcerer Kingdom side.
Immensely, Osk then invites the protagonist to show you the next room. In the next room, there were many weapons and armor on display, and Osk told the homunculus about the memories associated with each item, wanting to show the famous protagonist is who is an adamantite adventurer, to see it.
Outside in streets of imperial capital, Soi meets with the protagonist commenting his meeting took a long time. He apologizes as he was being shown an exhibition of weapons. There were rune weapons and the like, so he just had a look around and it was already this time. Well, Soi believes it doesn't seem like they will be late for their appointment. The two wait outside the destination which turns out to be an in . There they are greeted by Shall. [4]
At a cheap inn room, Shall reports to Darkness. Having been asked to come to the Empire, but just to be sure, she asks for more details. The protagonist then summarizes the main points. That the promoter of the Grand Arena has requested through the Adventurer's Guild that they help with "advertising for recruiting fighters." To attract more customers to the arena, they want to give chocolate sweets made in the Sorcerer Kingdom as prizes for the winners of friendly matches.
So, this time to be clear Shall asks if they are not developing any new chocolate products. That is the case as the other party's wish is to use the Healthy Blood Marriage that was previously developed by Shalltear and Solution as the prize. Which pleases the undercover adventurer finding that quite an interesting person is able to appreciate the greatness of the thing she created.
However, the name Blood Riot is not suitable for the sweet, so it is sold under the name "Healthy Vermilion". Although Shall objects to the name change. But decides turn a blind eye to the new name to focus on the mission. The protagonist explains that mass production of chocolate products by the undead has begun recently, and they would like Shalltear and Solution to act as "promotional agents.”
Shall is surprised as she thought the general maids made the sweets. The protagonist says that since it was undesirable to allocate a large portion of Nazarick's resources, the chocolate factory conceived by Momonga and set up in a room in the Frozen Prison on the 5th Floor. Soi finds that’s alright as it makes it easy to manage the chocolate. And Shall agrees that Cocytus also knows how to handle chocolate.
Soi takes comfort now the people who have fallen into Momonga’s trap are begging him for help, which causes Shall and the protagonist to be ever more proud of Momonga. That night, the joyous voices of three people echoed throughout a room at the imperial inn.
Later aome time passed since protagonist's visit to the imperial capital, Arwintar. One day, as preparations for the promotional match were steadily progressing—at the inn where the agents of Nazarick are staying, Shall speaks to Soi on how preparations for the promotional match to recruit fighters are progressing.Apparently, from what Soi heard, the "prize" will arrive within the next few days. And surmises that the fast progress is perhaps because the prize is "Sorcerer Kingdom chocolate", as there have been quite a few people wanting to take part in the promotional match.
Shall also heard that there were more applicants than expected, and they even had to hold preliminary rounds to narrow it down. To Soi it really is rewarding to advertise chocolate candy, given it’s benefiting their nation indirectly. Though the official reason is to promote the Adventurer's Guild. But even so, Shall never expected that not only Soi but also she would be chosen to be a PR agent.
As for why she was selected, it was because of her undercover identity’s story. The adventurer Shall who many met in E-Rantel and fell in love at first sight. Thanks to rumors spreading among the people of the Empire, and various funding and other things she became popular among those who were likely to volunteer to become warriors. The undercover Floor Guardian is as well known as Soi, and many people would like to see her for themselves. As an additional note, by Soi, both she and the protagonist are adamantite rank adventurers and have made quite a name for themselves in the Empire.
Apparently Soi is popular due to the contrast between her rough behavior and her extraordinary beauty. There are many people both inside and outside the Kingdom who want to catch a glimpse of her. So if both women, who appeared in a friendly matches and dedication demonstrations in E-Rantel, were to team up, it would undoubtedly be the highlight of the current g event. Momonga has even prepared special matching costumes just for this occasion, so they can expect a considerable advertising effect. Now hearing that on Momonga, for their sake, Shall will definitely complete the mission successfully! Come to think of it, Soi remembers that among those wanting to participate were members of the New Six Arms.
Elsewhere at a hideout, Regi is asking Zero about his plan to have New Six Arms participate in the event to promote their team. Zero says that this is in order to gain new clients, so they should make the most of the events available. Malmvist voices that he heard there will be prizes for those who perform well. This draws Peshurian to ask if it’s chocolate made in Sorcerer Kingdom. Shizuni adds that she might want some. And so, the New Six Great Arms took part in the qualifying tournament as casually as if they were going for a walk.
On the day of the Grand Arena's promotional match, the protagonist and Osk were looking down at the arena from the VIP box. Osk is thankful to everyone's help, as he’s been able to get this far in the endeavor so he is truly grateful for the kindness of everyone in the Sorcerer Kingdom. Now all that's left is to see the results.
A knock at the door to the box alerts the protagonist that Soi and Shall have arrived. Osk bids them to enter eager to see the “beautiful flowers.” The two women enter the room, dressed in chocolatier costumes. Shall introduces herself to the merchant who in turn knows of her reputation, before commenting on the women’s appearance.
Osk is given the go ahead to start the event. That being his cue, Osk heads to the arena floor to deliver a welcoming speech to the audience, thanking them for coming to the Promotional Match Cup or Chocolate Cup today, an event to bring together the fighters of their arena.
In response to the applause that erupts, Osk directs their attention to the VIP box where in attendance to this Imperial Tournament, Emperor El-Nix is in attendance. The emperor then makes his appearance flanked by his knights Leinas and Nimble as he waves to the crowd.
Osk then informs the crowd that the promotional match cup has been held in order to further develop the Arena and to widely recruit people who wish to become fighters. In order to remain a place of pride for us citizens, the Arena will continue to move forward without stopping! Hailing the start of the Chocolate Cup.
For this match, thanks to the generosity of the E-Rantel Adventurer's Guild, they have prepared some fabulous prizes! Shall and Soi the appear in their cute outfits presenting the chocolate prizes. Osk boasts on its attractive appearance promoting v that it , Isn't it beautiful? It's said that this chocolate is also loved by Anoch, one of the Four Knights of the Empire, Fierce Gale, and even the 3
emperor. He calls it is Healthy Vermilion, offering 500 of these chocolates as prizes which can either be eaten or sold by the winner. Furthermore, the best performers will be able to acquire a certain number of sales rights. Adding even more incentive by stating that they are special item only available through the E-Rantel Adventurer's Guild, so being able to sell it in the Empire first makes it even more delicious.
On who will the winner be, Osk lists the names of the fighters who have come to participate. Go Gin, the Martial Lord, and Soi from the adamantite rank adventurer team Darkness of the E-Rantel Adventurer's Guild or even Silver Thread Bird. And the without further ado, he rings the gong to initiate the Chocolate Cup.
The promotional match was held at the Grand Arena. This time, the aspiring fighters competed in heated matches against guests such as the members of Silver Thread Bird, Martial Lord Go Gin, and even a Skeletal Dragon. In the midst of the completion adventurers like Fan Long, are seen taking down the undead dragon. After it is down with applause from the crowds, his fellow adventurers Unkei and Freivalds congratulate each other on their achievement.
In the VIP Box, the protagonist and Doppel-Slimeko are watching commenting on the sporty good game. Osk muses that while there are also Chaos Beasts to be defeated, Silver Thread Bird often comes to compete in the arena. Whenever he wants to make it a spectacular battle, he can't help but call them for the task. The merchant thought it would have been great if the protagonist had participated along with Soi. But understands that he refrained from doing so because being from the Sorcerer Kingdom comes with political implications. As Soi puts it, being a celebrity is tough with all the ties one has to deal with. Seeing that it is time for her and Shall to take the stage, the female adventurers head out to the arena floor.Osk then announces the next contestants: New Six Arms.[5]
Zero is fired up to go along with his team. On who their opponents will be, Soi and Shall appear. The leader of New Six Arms is unfazed despite knowing both their reputations. He courteous greets Shall who in turn wishes him luck. Malmvist for one vows not to lose to the women in frilly clothes as doing so would be a disgrace to his team. His teammate Peshurian warns him not to let his guard up, knowing who they are fighting.
At the VIP Box, Headhunter Rabbit is watching with Osk, shivering in anticipation to the upcoming fight. The merchant tells his subordinate that it goes to show that the protagonist is a worthy adventurer for recommending the team up with Soi and wonders how the battle will end On the arena floor, Shizuninis determined to win with Shall promising not to go easy on her and her teammates. Regi tells Soi to prepare herself, and Soi even suggests a wager. Since she and Shall are advertise for the Adventurer's Guild. If they win, how about they register as adventurers in the E-Rantel Adventurer's Guild?
Zero rejects the offer, as he aims to be an Imperial knight someday, never an adventurer. Malmvist likewise rejects the offer not wanting to be bound by rules. Peshurian notes that the time to fight is approaching. The two teams then battle it out.
Shall is seen fighting Malmvist and Peshurian, supported by Shizuni and Regi. The two women try to charge at her while the men have her pinned, but the adventurer leaps out from her attackers and switches to engaging the female workers.
Zero buffs himself and charges at Soi. They clash kicking up dust. Impressed by his skill, the adventurer comments on Zero’s techniques. The same is said by Zero, before he launches a sure-kill attack which is countered by the adventurer’s special move. The attacks cancel each other out, leaving v both warriors glaring at each other, before the gong rings out, signaling the time for the match is over. The two teams lose all hostility and chat, complimenting each other’s ability and skill.
Osk concludes all the matches and announces that the match that was held was a form of "advertising" for recruiting fighters, but he was able to see a fantastic fight that exceeded his expectations. He is convinced that this is the kind of arena his audience is looking for. The current situation is still in turmoil, but to all those who showed the
such great fighting today--he on behalf of the crowd would like to express their heartfelt gratitude and respect to each of them, praise their efforts, and present the participation awards and prizes. Today's winner is declared to be New Six Arms.
Zero approaches Osk to accept the prize, but not before asking if the 500 chocolate snacks will spoil. The worker has nothing to worry, Osk tells him that the food that doesn't spoil easily. And regarding the sales channels for a certain number of sales rights, there are some points to note from the product association, which he promises to talk about later.
Nonetheless Zero is willing to take the 500 chocolate snacks all at once for him and his team.
Osk agrees hesitant, though comments on the workers being just too merciless. He doesn’t elaborate to Zero, only encouraging him to address the crowds to which Zero raises his fist
The arena erupts with cheers as Zero and his team walk away victoriously. Osk goes down a list giving thanks to the workers, all the adventurers who kindly agreed to appear as guests, and to the E-Rantel Adventurer's Guild who provided the prizes——-and to the Sorcerer Kingdom and its king for their sponsorship! And lastly, to Emperor El-Nix.
Osk then bids everyone to please be careful where they step on your way home. Adding that the arena will continue to operate for the sake of the Empire and for the sake of humanity, so that it can give you energy and courage! Declaring that the arena will continue to accept applications from participating fighters at any time. And so, with the excitement still high, the Chocolate Cup came to a safe conclusion.[6]
Aftermath[]
And thus the promotional match ended successfully. Another meeting takes place at the Round Table Room, where Momonga receives the report from the protagonist, Solution, and Shalltear. They are commended for their hard work. The protagonist thanks his master, adding that thanks to this promotion, giving out chocolate as a prize, the recognition of "Sorcerer Kingdom Chocolate Products" have increased dramatically.
Solution reports that as soon as the match ended and the team was dismissed, Lupusregina and the others - no, the New Six Arms - quickly sold off the prizes they had received in the arena, which seemed to be a good thing. Not only did everyone learn about the existence of chocolate, but it was also an opportunity to taste it. Customers seemed to be rushing to buy it, curious to know just how good the sweets were that the emperor and the four knights liked.
Shalltear says that fighters also bought tickets. The match was a great success, and it was a very festive day. Momonga believes that his nation has done the Empire a favour, especially to Osk, so it might be easier to find out what those sisters are up to in the future. A letter of thanks was even received by the protagonist from the emperor which he hands to Albedo to review.
Momonga, leaving the Grand Arena aside, wants to know if it okay to think that it contributed to "expanding sales channels"? A certain number of sales rights were granted, and through Osk, the Empire's Merchant’s Guild was also able to become aware of the existence of chocolate confectionery.
After this incident, Demiurge believes that the emperor will surely become fascinated not only with the protagonist, but also with Momonga-sama - the Sorcerer King. They surely as Albedo states that by now they would have recognize the Sorcerer King as the perfect partner. As for the Empire, they intended to explore whether they could "help the symbol of another country"--given that this little endeavor was also meant as a pose to show that "[He] trusts not only you, but also His Majesty the Sorcerer King." To Albedo it’s all more laughable as in the first place, the human was just dancing in the palm of the Sorcerer King's hand. Demiurge states that they are just sowing the seeds with an eye to the future.Momonga agrees, adding that he is sure their interactions with the Adventurer's Guild and the Grand Arena will continue in the future.
Sometime later, at the Adventurer’s Guild, in Ainzach’s office the protagonist asks what he thought of the results of the promotion, on if they were better than expected. The guildmaster replies he was amazed, telling the young adventurer on a job well done.
Humble as always, the protagonist credits Ainzach for making the promotion possible due to his connection with Osk. Speaking of Osk, the guildmaster received a letter of thanks from the merchant. All in all Ainzach is in a good mood as once again, they were able to save face for the Adventurer's Guild. Thus the protagonist has his thanks, and is truly grateful to have him as an adventurer in their group.
In response, the protagonist declares that if he had to express his gratitude, it would be to His Majesty the Sorcerer King, who willingly accepted everything. Finding he is correct, Ainzach remarks that the Sorcerer King is truly an amazing king. And while it would be disrespectful for someone like him to write a letter of thanks to the Omar h, he hopes that someday he will be able to convey this gratitude to him if he gets the chance.
The protagonist agrees as his master is a generous person, so he’s sure he will be pleased with Ainzach’s words. Even so, as Ainzach puts it, when the guild decided to "advertise" the chocolate confectionery that it has a monopoly on elsewhere, it said that the guild might suffer a certain amount of loss. However by narrowing the use of the chocolate to "prizes," they were able to minimize the dispersion of profits from the chocolate all thanks to protagonist's arrangement. Personally Ainzach wants to thank the protagonist in some way other than with words, but all he can offer is a visit to a high-class brothel, though is unsure if it’s appropriate given Soi. The protagonist tells Ainzach that just his kind thoughts are appreciated.
While Ainzach was grumbling on what to do, at the hideout of New Six Arms, Zero was also in a dissatisfied mood. Zero has a problem he has for Regi and Shizunj. He understands how they are when the two demonstrate monster slaying in the arena, but even when they fight other guys, they’re too merciless...at least that's what Osk told him.
Regi asks if that means they're winning too much every time? In their defense Shizuni claims that their opponents are weak so it’s natural that they win. Regi agrees finding it odd they have to lose on purpose. If that's the case, then Shizuni say it would be just fixed. Zero tells the women that even if they win all the time, their team’s class would be completely blunted, as people would start to question the integrity of New Six Arms. Malmvist is stunned having never thought he'd hear a word about "class" from his boss. Peshurian thinks it's a necessary sensibility if one wants to become a knight.
Zero tells him to shut up. He gets his team to listen to in saying that if people think they're dangerous to get involved with, no one's going to ask them for anything, even if they go out and advertise! Shizuni admits that would be a problem in the number of clients. Regi points out that they have the sales rights for chocolate in the mean time. So they should be happy. Which all the team agrees.
Secretly to himself, Zero acknowledges that Regi and Shizuni not as strong as him, but regardless are strong. But if the two of them work together, he’s not sure he can win unscathed. If those women really push someone, people will be scared. Well, Zero thinks it should be fine, since he’s respected for being able to bring together strong people, but... it would be a problem if the client disappeared.
Zero still brings up that today's fight at the arena was lukewarm at most where life and death are no longer at stake. They need to think about how to win to some extent now, as he doesn't want his team to look like villains. Meaning that he wants them to win in a cool and clean way as Regi deduces, which CZ finds would be difficult. Malmvist argues that Regi once infiltrated a place by disguising herself as a young lady, so surely she can win a fight in a lady-like manner. Zero laughs at that, joking Regi should be Lady Regi while in the arena. Even Peshurian join in the funs suggesting she wear a dress for publicity and garner the attention with the wealthy. Regi objects saying that she would never do such a thing. Shizuni encourages the ideas, saying she will root for Regi. While Regi was panicking, joyous laughter echoed through the hideout of New Six Arms.[7]
