The Fake Festival Shitmas Chronicles (偽装祭事シットマス記) is a game event in Mass for the Dead that was released on December 8, 2025 to December 22, 2025.

Background[]

Raiders have invaded the Dwarf Kingdom. To confirm their presence, Lupusregina and her companions once again don their red cold weather attire.

Their appearance brings a new “disguise” to the allied nations.

The name of the festival is…

Behold the Sorcerer Kingdom-originated Christmas![1]

Incident[]

The Azerlisia Mountain Range, with its rugged and imposing peaks, hides a vast network of underground caverns. In these subterranean halls, the dwarves toiled as they did every day, their brows slick with sweat. At one of the mines, a young dwarf hefted a crate of ore and muttered about its weight.

His manager chuckled and told him there was no need for the dwarves to haul the cargo themselves—the mining team had finished with the skeleton laborers, who would be arriving shortly. But the young dwarf, too impatient to wait, insisted on loading the boxes himself. The foreman merely shook his head, attributing the stubbornness to youth. He cautioned the lad that he’d throw out his back lifting like that, advising him to pull the load closer to his body and use his knees rather than his waist. The young dwarf tried the adjusted posture and found the task a bit easier.

With that, he and the others set to work, loading the large cargo container of ore bound for the Sorcerer Kingdom, along with various crafted daily goods. After loading the cargo for a while, a dwarf returned from the mine entrance, accompanied by a troop of skeletons pushing a mine cart. The dwarf is revealed to be a tunnel doctor. The dwarven manager tells the tunnel doctor the other dwarves have been waiting for him. And then asks about the condition of the mines.

The tunnel doctor reports that everything is going well, his team of skeletons collected the amount of ore that the dwarves promised to the Sorcerer Kingdom. The tunnels in perfect condition with no signs of the mines collapsing. Finding that excellent news, the manager ask if the dwarven loaders can use the skeletons the tunnel doctor brought back, and that he will transfer the ore brought back in the mine carts into the containers. The tunnel doctor is relieved, and decides to head back down to the mine and continue digging. The manager warns him to be careful on his way back as people in the mines will get uneasy with a tunnel doctor.

Three skeletons are called over by a dwarven lad and orders them to load the cargo into the containers. The undead obey, marching to work. Seeing their efforts the young dwarf finds it definitely easier and faster when they let skeletons do the work.

After finishing their inspection of the various Cracks scattered throughout the area, the group made their way to a cave where one Crack known to produce Ice Chaos Beasts was located. A Death Knight and the Evil Lord Envy stood guard at the site. Mare greeted Envy, who was overseeing the anomaly. Envy reported that there had been no changes since her last report to Nazarick, and that no problems had arisen so far. She then asked about the group’s inspection of the other Cracks in the Azerlisia Mountains. Mare replied that none of them appeared to be abnormal. Envy considered this the best possible news. Momonga had ordered her to closely monitor this particular Crack as well as several others and to report anything unusual, but it seemed that no such report would be necessary.

Lupusregina remarked that, with the cave Crack accounted for, these were all the anomalies in the region currently under the Sorcerer Kingdom’s control. Wanting to be thorough, Entoma asked if she could observe whatever emerged from the Crack next. Mare agreed, noting that they could also take the opportunity to review the security measures around it. Lupusregina thought it was an excellent idea and asked how long it would be until the Crack activated.

Envy replied that activation was imminent and also asked whether the group would still have enough time to travel to the Dwarf Kingdom afterward. Mare assured her that it would not be a problem, adding that they had some leeway should anything occur at the other Cracks. Pleased to hear this, Envy asked them to wait nearby until the activation.

The party moved closer to the Crack. Entoma reflected that the Mimics emerging from similar anomalies were a type of Chaos Beast. She found it unfortunate, as it would have been convenient if Mimics could be turned into squire zombies for Death Knights upon being slain. Lupusregina agreed, remarking that it would make dealing with them much easier. Their discussion was cut short when Envy announced that the Crack was about to activate.

Moments later, the Crack began to glow, and three Ice Chaos Beasts emerged. Lupusregina commented that it was fortunate Demiurge had adjusted the Cracks so that multiple enemies could appear at once, making them useful for training. Entoma added that if this behavior combined with the appearance of Mimics, Chaos Beasts would begin emerging in large numbers, creating a serious problem. Envy agreed and stated that she would like to request additional Death Knight guards from Momonga to strengthen the defenses around the Cracks. She then encouraged everyone to demonstrate their strength in eliminating the Chaos Beasts so she could report favorable results.

Once the final Ice Chaos Beast was defeated, Mare thanked his companions for their efforts and said he would report the outcome to Momonga. Lupusregina observed that there had been no changes to the Crack after the battle. Entoma agreed, noting that no Mimics had appeared. Lupusregina admitted she was puzzled, as she had inspected all the known Cracks and found no evidence such as footprints that would indicate Mimic activity. Mare suggested that the real issue was how to locate any newly formed Cracks in the area.

Entoma proposed reviewing the conditions under which new Cracks formed. Envy, however, suggested that a Crack path might have been buried underground by a rockfall or similar event, only to reemerge later. Entoma countered that there had been no noticeable changes to the terrain during their ascent of the mountain. Still, given the vast size of the Azerlisia Mountains, it was possible that undiscovered Cracks existed away from their route. Mare reasoned that such a Crack could not be too far away, as it was unlikely Mimics could travel great distances unnoticed.

Lupusregina agreed, noting that the Dwarf Kingdom had a massive gate at its entrance and was not easy to infiltrate. Mare then speculated that the Mimics might be spawning inside the Dwarf Kingdom itself. Envy felt that such a scenario was plausible. Lupusregina grimly remarked that if something dangerous had appeared inside the kingdom and caused damage, she would have difficulty facing Momonga. With a clearer direction in mind, Mare thanked Envy for her assistance, which she returned. Armed with this lead, the group headed toward the land of the dwarves.

Upon reaching the entrance to Feo Jera, Mare commented on how quiet it was. Lupusregina joked darkly that perhaps the dwarves had all been wiped out, though Entoma pointed out that such an outcome would create serious complications for them. Lupusregina admitted she was joking and guessed instead that the dwarves had been ordered to remain quiet until safety was confirmed. As they entered, they were greeted by a dwarven tunnel doctor who recognized them as emissaries of the Sorcerer Kingdom. Standing beside him was the mine’s manager.

Lupusregina expressed relief that the dwarves were unharmed, and Mare added that he had heard they had endured a difficult period. The tunnel doctor admitted that when the miners and their trade goods were attacked, he had feared for their future. The manager explained that the attackers resembled humans but behaved unnervingly, repeatedly muttering the same words. The tunnel doctor added that thanks to the presence of the Frost Dragon, the mysterious humanoids had been destroyed, but disturbingly, they left no bodies behind. When Lupusregina asked whether anything remained of the attackers, the manager replied that only strange fragments had been left behind, with no corpses or recognizable remains. These fragments had been collected for closer examination. The tunnel doctor added that they were intended to be presented to His Majesty the Sorcerer King.

The party was then shown several amethyst-like crystals, which they immediately recognized as Chaos Stones. Based on the dwarves’ descriptions and the remnants left behind, Entoma confirmed that the attackers had indeed been Mimics. Lupusregina noted that the remaining mystery was how the Mimics had entered the mines. She asked whether guards had been on duty during the attack. The tunnel doctor confirmed that they had been. The manager then summoned a sentry to give his account. The guard stated that he had been keeping watch and was unable to intervene immediately when the Mimics attacked. He vouched for the other guards as well, insisting that none of them had been asleep and that there were no signs indicating where the Mimics had appeared from.

Mare suggested that there might be a location within the mine connected to a newly activated Crack. Entoma asked whether anyone had seen such a phenomenon at the excavation site, but none of the dwarves had. Lupusregina then asked if there had been any significant geological changes, such as tunnel collapses, that could have exposed a hidden Crack. The tunnel doctor said he was unsure but recalled a minor rockfall that had occurred recently. The manager added that it had taken place deep within the mine, near an old ore deposit with little traffic, and suggested that it could be the source of the problem.

Lupusregina asked whether there had been any activity in that area since. The tunnel doctor explained that collapses were common in older tunnels and that he had repaired it with magic, but he agreed to lead them there. Seeing that it was their only lead, Mare, Lupusregina, and Entoma agreed to investigate. The tunnel doctor instructed them to follow him into the depths of the mine. Before proceeding, Entoma released several insect summons to guard the mine entrance, just in case.[5]

Aftermath[]

In the Round Table Room, Mare delivered his report. With the safety of the Dwarf Kingdom now secured, the dwarves were overjoyed with the alcohol gifted to them by the Sorcerer Kingdom. Momonga considered that outcome ideal and surmised that the lizardmen’s response must have been similarly positive. Lupusregina confirmed this, adding that she had heard the donated fabrics allowed them to sleep warmly through the cold nights. In her view, both the dwarves and the lizardmen now held a better impression of the Sorcerer Kingdom—and their loyalty had deepened as well.

Entoma attributed this success to their liege, Momonga, who had provided Lupusregina with specialized equipment to help her operate in the frigid environment. Momonga agreed; he had been confident that with that equipment, Lupusregina would accomplish her mission without issue. However, when it came to the reindeer costume he had lent her, he had never imagined that a reindeer—or rather, a reindeer-like creature—could be produced so quickly. Alone with his thoughts, Momonga pondered the unsettling weight of the equipment’s flavor text.

His contemplation was interrupted by Demiurge, who began analyzing Momonga’s broader so-called strategy. The demon remarked that the holiday known as “Shitmas” was surprisingly impressive. By spreading the customs of the Sorcerer Kingdom through word of mouth among neighboring villages and trade partners, Momonga had made the kingdom’s constructed narrative all the more believable.

Albedo then offered her perspective. A nation, she said, was ultimately a gathering of people. For all to survive the harsh winter, it was only natural that they would develop customs and a culture suited to those conditions. Although the denizens of Nazarick were bound by the absolute laws of the Supreme Beings, as fragile creatures it was inevitable that they would join hands, appease or subdue others, and weave delicate threads of connection. Through this process, Nazarick had successfully spread a wonderful custom—one that conveyed the deep and ancient history of the Sorcerer Kingdom to the outside world.

As for the holiday of Shitmas, Albedo declared that it should continue to be cultivated as one of the Sorcerer Kingdom’s enduring traditions. Momonga privately cursed himself for having named the holiday Shitmas on impulse. Each time his subordinates praised him so earnestly, his embarrassment only deepened, and he found himself wishing—yet again—that he had chosen a more dignified name. Still, the praise continued unabated. Mare declared that it was only to be expected of Momonga, a Supreme Being, to understand the hearts of fragile creatures and create something so perfectly suited to them. Lupusregina chimed in, adding that even the lizardmen were deeply convinced of his greatness.

Maintaining his composure, Momonga replied that he was glad they all understood his intentions. Changing the subject, he asked Albedo how the preparations were progressing. The Overseer Guardian reported that Shalltear, who was in charge of the venue, had informed her that everything was complete.

In that case, Momonga said, they would head there at once. When Mare asked where they were going, Momonga replied that he should have already heard about it from Lupusregina. Entoma paused to think, then recalled the scene back at the dwarven mine: Lupusregina, dressed in her reindeer costume, thanking the dwarves for their invitation to celebrate, but regretfully declining. She had explained that preparations for a banquet were already underway in Nazarick, as this time of year marked a Sorcerer Kingdom event known as Shitmas.

At the time, Mare had assumed it was merely an excuse to return to Nazarick early. But now it was clear—Momonga had prepared a party and waited for the field teams to return, intending to reward them for their hard work in the bitter cold. Entoma felt that words of gratitude were unnecessary for them. And yet, when those who had completed their outdoor assignments heard Momonga’s intentions, warm smiles spread across their faces, their hearts warmed more than their bodies ever had been.

The Amphitheater on the Sixth Floor of Nazarick had been lavishly decorated in festive colors, a grand banquet laid out beneath shimmering ornaments. The sight drew admiration from both Momonga and Doppel-Slimeko, who was dressed in a Christmas costume. Shalltear, also clad for the occasion, proudly announced that under her direction, the Sorcerer Kingdom’s Shitmas decorations had been completed to perfection.

Momonga praised her efforts, remarking that thanks to her, he could now confidently explain what Shitmas was should anyone outside Nazarick ask. Shalltear beamed at the compliment, then noted how his headgear and cape matched Doppel-Slimeko’s costume, saying that it suited him well. The homunculus thanked her politely.

Shalltear added that Momonga should dress cheerfully like this from time to time and enjoy himself. She then asked when Demiurge’s greeting would begin. Almost on cue, Demiurge’s voice rang out, chiding her impatience. The Seventh Floor Guardian appeared wearing a mask and tested his voice to ensure it carried clearly, asking everyone to step closer.

He began his speech by explaining that their liege, Momonga, had devised a cover for a new Sorcerer Kingdom tradition known as Shitmas. Those engaged in field activities were instructed to keep the event in mind. If the custom spread to human nations such as E-Rantel and the Empire, the Sorcerer Kingdom’s influence would grow ever stronger.

Solution, dressed in a Christmas outfit, commented that she would likely use the name Shitmas as part of her cover, claiming she had heard of it from Momonga himself. Lupusregina, also in her reindeer costume, suggested she could introduce the event in the Empire under her undercover identity, framing it as a business opportunity. CZ, dressed festively, mused that their boss Zero would surely be pleased. Yuri, likewise in holiday attire, recalled how Momonga had once distributed medicine to the children of E-Rantel while wearing red robes that blended in with the adventurers.

Momonga confirmed that memory. In the future, he reasoned, charitable acts such as donating supplies could be carried out under the pretense of tradition. Direct aid might offend the pride of allied nations, but customs provided a convenient excuse that avoided such concerns. Entoma praised the brilliance of the concept.

Yuri then asked why Narberal was dressed as she would be during the Day of the Dead. Narberal replied that since Shitmas involved wearing masks, she had taken the opportunity to wear a Momonga mask. That also explained Demiurge’s attire. Lupusregina laughed, realizing that Narberal’s costume was the one she herself had forgotten to wear during the Day of the Dead, and joked that she should have worn a Momonga mask as well. Her self-reproach earned laughter from those around her.

Demiurge concluded his speech with a deep bow, stating that they should all be grateful to Momonga for his wonderful idea. One after another, the NPCs expressed their thanks. Mare, dressed in the Halloween costume he had worn before, asked why this particular timing had been chosen. Surely Momonga had conceived the idea long ago? Aura, also in her Halloween attire, replied that it was because supplies had become abundant, trade with the outside world was flourishing, and the Sorcerer Kingdom’s foundations were now secure. Mare realized that this meant they could give gifts without expecting anything in return. Albedo, dressed elegantly in her Christmas costume, agreed—this was proof that Momonga felt Nazarick itself was being restored.

Aura recalled the day Momonga had appeared in the royal attire prepared for his debut in the human world. He had said then that the power he needed was the strength to confront the unprecedented threat that once attacked the Great Tomb of Nazarick—and that his subordinates were part of that power. On that day, they had proven themselves worthy of the equipment he now wore. They should take pride in that and praise themselves, for it was remarkable how much power he had regained and how much he had grown. Aura smiled at the memory. Mare finally understood. Albedo concluded that this meant Momonga had fully accepted them—and Nazarick itself.

Momonga thanked them all, then declared that talk of work was finished. Now was the time to eat, drink, and celebrate together the circumstances they had all created. With one voice, everyone wished one another a Merry Shitmas. And so, the party at the Great Tomb of Nazarick continued in full swing throughout the night.[7]
