The Siege of the Northern Holy Kingdom was an extensive conflict instigated by Jaldabaoth invading the Roble Holy Kingdom with a demi-human army and laying siege to its northern regions. Following the initial fall of the north, the conflict became a large-scale rebellion.

Background[]

Not long after Nazarick had been teleported to the new world, Demiurge thinking that Ainz's mention of conquering the world as something absolute, he started preparations in order to achieve his master's goal.[1][2] Demiurge had set up a base of operations in the Abelion Hills in order to first harvest materials and to conduct his experiments for the benefit of Nazarick. It was at this time his forces had been subjugating the tribal demi-human races that lived in this region as well as kidnapping several citizens within the Holy Kingdom to be used in the production of items such as magic scrolls or used in breeding experiments.[3][4][5] Some of the demi-human races joined willingly others under the threat of force and began plans to commence the siege of the Holy Kingdom. He assigned all the strongest demi-humans of each race as generals under his command and appointed three of Demons to be his commanders, with Rokesh the Naga Raja being the one directly to speak between him and the demi-human leaders. Once everything had been prepared the invasion of the Holy Kingdom had begun under the disguise of using his Jaldabaoth persona to begin the full invasion.

Battles[]

Battle of the Great Wall[]

In the middle of the night, the Demi-human alliance led by Jaldabaoth greeted the soldiers at the Great Wall in to order to begin the siege of the Holy Kingdom, While everyone had shot arrows and magical enchanted spells towards the demon emperor, it proved to be ineffective and with one spell, the Wall was breached in a fiery explosion and almost all within its AOE were killed of instantly and thus the demi-humans had poured inside and the invasion had officially begun.

Battle of Kalinsha[]

News of the wall being breached spread quickly and a mobilization order was given to entirety of the Holy Kingdom. With the demi-human army heading towards the city of Kalinsha in the Northern Holy Kingdom, the Holy Kingdom's strategy was for the Northern Holy Kingdom Army to hold out until the Southern Holy Kingdom Army could arrive and encircle the invaders.

However, Jaldabaoth proved to be a step ahead, as he leaked false information as to his army's pace. As a result, the demi-humans arrived at Kalinsha much sooner than expected, with Jaldabaoth attacking the city by himself. The Holy Queen was inside the city as this was happening and, not left with many other options, decided to rally her personal forces to face the demon. Unfortunately, they were ultimately no match for him and the Demi-Human army successfully conquered Kalinsha, with the Holy Queen being taken as a prisoner and later killed.[6]

Afterward, the demi-human army moved on to conquer most of the North, with citizens being taken to prison camps for experimentation. However, when they attempted to invade the Southern Holy Kingdom as well, their forces were finally halted by the Southern Army at the border.

Liberation of Loyts[]

The remnants of the Northern Holy Kingdom Army and Paladin Order that survived the onslaught of the invasion, eventually reorganized into the Holy Kingdom Liberation Army under the leadership of Remedios Custodio and Gustav Montagnés. Though their efforts against the Demon Emperor only amounted into guerilla war tactics and sabotage. Due to the uncertain fate of the royal family, the Southern Holy Kingdom refrained from sending aid to their northern brethren, believing it was more prudent to fortify their own position and elevate a new monarch among themselves. The resistance desperate for a way to defeat the Demon Emperor, Remedios then led a delegation to the Re-Estize Kingdom, as it was rumored that the kingdom had successfully driven away Jaldabaoth. However they delegation was informed by Blue Roses that the real person responsible for saving the nation from Jaldabaoth was the adamantite adventurer Momon who had defected over to the Sorcerer Kingdom.

The delegation then journeyed to the Sorcerer Kingdom's capital E-Rantel and were given an audience with the Sorcerer King Ainz Ooal Gown to request Momon's aid, Though the request was rejected by Ainz as Momon's presence was keeping the peace between the living and the undead. In a surprise turn of events, the Sorcerer King's aid to retake the north, was received by the delegation, after the sovereign was impressed by the words of a squire named Neia Baraja.[7]

Ainz Ooal Gown traveled with the delegation back to the Holy Kingdom and regrouped with the Liberation Army's base. At the Sorcerer King's suggestion, the army moved out in and began raiding the neighboring prison camps for additional manpower and supplies. After the army reached critical mass due to the greater numbers of freed prisoners in its ranks, the decision was made to recapture the city of Loyts and use it as a new base. The army attacked Loyts and breached it gates due to its greater numbers, though were momentarily halted when a demi-human used a child as a hostage. Remedios unwilling to make sacrifices to any innocents was willing to jeopardize the recapture of the city for one mere life, much to the dismay of her subordinates. However Ainz as a mercy killed the hostage to allow the paladins and militia to break the stalemate and resume the attack. The city was found to not just be holding human prisoners, but also orcs that refused to fight for the Demon Emperor. After questioning them Ainz sent them on their way to spread an invitation of asylum to the other demi-human tribes seeking to escape the war. More importantly a member of the royal family was found, Prince Caspond, to be among the captives. Soon after he liberation, the prince was designated as the leader of the resistance and next in line for the throne.[8]

Siege of Loyts[]

A week after the city of Loyts was retaken, by the human resistance, a force of 40,000 demi-humans laid siege to the city. Led by Rokesh, the demi-humans attacked all four gates of Loyts, forcing the defenders to fight on multiple fronts. The Liberation forces suffering from insufficient supplies, hoped to last long enough until reinforcements from the south arrive. However the likelihood that the south would arrive in time was doubtful, and a few members even suggested in calling the aid of the Sorcerer King. Remedios obstinate as ever reused to become even more indebt to the undead, opted to use the forces she had on hand to overcome the siege.

The western gate fell first due to the demi-humans numbers and also the fact that many of them tied human children to their bodies as shields. Neia who was stationed at the gate was the first to target the children first, depriving the enemy of hostages. Though the act was reprehensive by her colleagues, ultimately they decided it was necessary and followed her lead. Even with this resolve, the paladins at the wall were quickly killed, among them Neia.

Remedios who came to fortify the western gate with her paladins, soon was confronted by chieftain demi-humans: Vijar Rajandala, Nasrene Belt Cure, and Halisha Ankara. The paladins were swiftly defeated, save for Remedios. The captain attempted to use Safarlisia's special ability to cut down Vijar, but it proved ineffective as her weapon's ability was only effective to evil aligned beings. Alone and without any support, Remedios was about to be killed by the demi-humans, until Ainz arrived to save her. Using his magic, Ainz instantly killed the leaders of the assault on the western gate, before moving to the corpse of Neia and revived her. To complete his objective to rid the demi-humans, he summoned some Soul Eaters and then singlehandedly repelled the invaders from the city.

Duel at Loyts[]

Three weeks after the Liberation Army freed Loyts, Jaldabaoth attacked the city, enveloping it in fire. The Liberation Army's forces believed that the target of the attack was to assassinate the recently found Prince Caspond or the army's leadership. The Sorcerer King was summoned to the meeting of the army's leadership in order to plan a course of action. However before any plans were put into action, the Demon Emperor attacked the location causing chaos. Jaldabaoth easily defeated the human warriors and upon seeing Ainz immediately recognized him as a threat and engaged him and his Demon Maids in battle. The Sorcerer King provided the Liberation Army a distraction to allow them time to escape the city. The battle was a spectacle witnessed by the humans, as the two entities fought in the sky, however Jaldabaoth emerged victorious much to the dismay of Ainz's squire Neia. After Jaldabaoth fled seemingly to lick his wounds, he left behind one of his Demon Maids, CZ, who apparently had been freed from his control as a last bid by Ainz. Unknown to the Liberation Army, the entire attack was staged by Ainz and his minions in order to fake his death. The purpose was to allow Ainz an opportunity to conduct other activities without tarnishing the public image he built among the humans of the Northern Holy Kingdom, but also to implement a training drill among the NPCs in the event of his demise.

Zern Prince Rescue Mission[]

In the aftermath of the duel between the Demon Emperor and the Sorcerer King, the Liberation Army was approached by an unexpected ally, the Zerns. The demi-humans offered the human resistance a quick victory and recapture of the city of Kalinsha. In exchange they desired something in return, the safe return of their prince who was taken hostage by the Demon Emperor to ensure the Zerns cooperation for the duration of the attack on the Holy Kingdom. While the Zerns were cooperative with the Demon Emperor, the situation though changed after the demon killed their king. Since the Zerns relied on the few males to propagate their species it soon became clear that extinction was precariously drawing near.

If the humans were to deliver their lost royal to them, they pledged to turn against the demi-human defenders at the fortress city. For this task Neia Baraja and the captured Demon Maid CZ2128 Delta were dispatched to infiltrate the city.

With the assistance of their Zern accomplices the pair were smuggled into the castle that housed the prince. The two managed to slay the Vah Un guarded assigned to guard the prince, Beebeezee. Upon freeing the Zern and reuniting with the Zern forces present in the fortress, the resistance members learned that a powerful high ranking Circlet Demon was staying there as well.

Seeing an opportune moment to deprive the Demi-Human Alliance of its leadership at Kalinsha, the group decided to unite to assassinate the demon. The party moved unto the demon's chambers. Working together the group managed to fight against its Shadow Demons and defeat it. Afterwards the surviving members of the group, minus Neia due to her temporary blindness, moved to assist the Liberation Army in retaking Kalinsha.[9]

Liberation of Kalinsha[]

A relative short battle which was due to the Zerns fulfilling their part of the deal with the Liberation Army. Having their prince returned to them, the Zerns turned against the remaining demi-humans that held the city. Without their demon commander the demi-humans in the city lost all cohesion and were defeated. In the aftermath, Kalinsha became the new base for the Liberation Army. Additionally it became and the site of the formation of Neia's new organization, the Sorcerer King's Rescue Team, with the aim to seek and locate the currently missing Ainz Ooal Gown.[10]

Battle at Prart[]

Shortly after the successful recapture of Kalinsha, the Liberation Army received 50,000 reinforcements led by Marquis Bodipo and a small band of nobles from the Southern Noble Alliance. After the nobles paid homage to the crown prince, both armies joined forces to route out the remaining demi-humans to the west, as it was believed Jaldabaoth absence from the battlefield was due to him recovering from his fight with the Sorcerer King. The humans aimed to retake the western city of Prart. During the march to the city they encountered a 30,000 strong demi-human army. Faced off against the Liberation and southern nobles' combined army of 95,000, the humans were initially at the advantage. However while the humans won the first clashes, everything went south, after the Demon Emperor finally made his appearance and sowed chaos and terror on the battlefield. Hope seem to be lost, when a force of 10,000 dem-humans approached from the east, but to the armies' surprise the banners that flew from the army were of the Sorcerer King who had indeed survived his battle with the Demon Emperor and gathered those who wished to resist Jaldabaoth's rule. The decisive battle saw to the defeat of the Demon Emperor at Ainz Ooal Gown's hands and the end of the dem-human occupation of the Northern Holy Kingdom.

Aftermath[]

Following the defeat of Jaldabaoth, the remnants of the Demon Emperor were put down. Due to the role of the Sorcerer King in freeing the nation, an immense sense of gratitude was directed towards the undead, leading to the Holy Kingdom to establish strong diplomatic ties with Sorcerer Kingdom permitting relief efforts to coordinate to help in rebuilding the nation. Unknown to the citizens of the Holy Kingdom, the entire war had been staged for this outcome, as not only did Ainz win the hearts of the humans, but also replaced their Prince Caspond Bessarez, with a doppelgänger imposter effectively turning the kingdom into a puppet state.[11] Furthermore due to Neia Baraja's indoctrination of the glory of the Sorcerer Kingdom she wield great influence over the struggling nation, as the Faceless, the new representative face of a cult centered on Ainz Ooal Gown.[12][13]
