Background

A rite performed by priests to prevent corpses from becoming undead.

One of vital importance when mourning and taking care of the dead. Especially with an undead was involved with the victims and had the “Create Kin” ability, the. there was a possibility the victims would turn into the undead unless dealt with properly. The possibility of corpses that were left alone turning into undead, was a rare thing depending on the environment.

Normally leaving dead bodies where they were wouldn’t have been a problem. Animals and insects would have cleaned the remains and be taken care of naturally. If said location were a normal place. In locations such as the Katze Plains, normal animals did not exist in those lands. Thus if the bodies were left alone, they would rot and become sources of pestilence.

The Rites of Vigil were performed by Candelon Gaelian after Fist came across three slain bodies at the Broken Tower. Presumably they were all that was left two undead subjugation teams who were victims of Skeletal Dragons.

Abilities and Powers

The rite can be performed to be simple. But once performed, priests assure the living that the souls of deceased should be at rest now. Once it is performed only then is a burial allowed for the corpses.

Trivia

• In the doctrine of the Temple of the Four Great Gods, only when a corpse has rotted would it signify if a soul has moved on to the afterlife. So far it is unclear if they observe any funerary rites.
