Recapture of Feo Berkana was an operation promised upon during talks of negotiation between the Regency Council of the Dwarf Kingdom and Ainz Ooal Gown of the Sorcerer Kingdom.

Background[]

Prior to the Sorcerer Kingdom's assistance to the Dwarf Kingdom, it was said that the Quagoa had already conquered the former Dwarven capital of Feo Berkana, and had taken it as their home base. However, what lies further in were Frost Dragons who rule the Royal Palace, the heart of the city. Neither the Quagoa nor the Frost Dragons have a perfectly cooperative relationship, but since they lived together, they chose to help each other out when dealing with the dwarves.

Ainz strikes a deal wit the Regency Council

In return of borrowing the Sorcerer King's assistance to recapture the capital city, the Dwarf Kingdom will let the former have their Runesmiths work in the Sorcerer Kingdom and allow the Sorcerer Kingdom to have a monopoly on the sale of their products. The Regency Council of the Dwarf Kingdom accepts the trade deal with a condition they added to it. They told the Sorcerer King that the Dwarf Kingdom will be sending a group of inspectors to the Sorcerer Kingdom to see how their dwarven brethren are being treated, and to ensure their welfare which the latter obliged.

Operation[]

Ainz recruited Gondo Firebeard as a guide along on the journey to retake Feo Berkana as the latter happen to know more about the former capital city than any other dwarf in existence. He encourages the dwarf to look for an alternate route in case the tunnel to the capital collapses on them. It was Ainz's intention to keep Gondo protected and alive by his side at all times throughout the operation, seeing that he needs a dwarf like him to verify to the Regency Council that he had chased all the Quagoa and Frost Dragons out of the capital city.

Along the way, the two became accomplices in planning to not only capture the city but to also loot some valuable items from the Dwarf Kingdom's treasury found there too.

Ainz and co. easily make the "hazardous journey"

Before reaching Feo Berkana, Ainz had Gondo explained to him the dangerous hazards that his expedition may face. To successfully arrive at the city, the expedition must pass three trials that stood in their way to the capital. The first trial being located at the Great Rift, the second trial said to happen at the Land of Molten Magma, and the third trial being the Maze of Death itself.[1] Nonetheless, the road to the Dwarven Royal Capital ran along a narrow, unsteady path that was only a little higher than the sea of molten rock below it.

Once they finally overcame the three trials, the expedition team found themselves at the city of Feo Berkana. In this city, the first foe they found at their mercy was a young Frost Dragon by the name of Hejinmal who was alarm by their powerful presence and quickly submitted to the Sorcerer King. Afterwards, it was decided by Ainz that the expedition will be split off into two different groups to handle various oppositions. Both Shalltear Bloodfallen and Aura Bella Fiora will work together on dealing with the United Quagoa Clans while Ainz, Hejinmal, and Gondo deal with the Frost Dragons.

Before leaving Shalltear to handle the Quagoa Genocide with Aura, Ainz had already decided to place certain restrictions on the vampire while on their mission to recapture Feo Berkana ahead of time. According to Ainz, when traveling with him to the Dwarven Capital, such restrictions will be placed on Shalltear's fighting abilities to deceive powerful foes (such as Players) lying in wait. Concerning Tier Magic, she was required to not use too many different spells. She was highly encouraged by her master to limit herself to one or two spells.

Ainz easily kills the Frost Dragon Lord...

On the other hand, while Shalltear and Aura were undergoing their mission, Ainz and Gondo riding on Hejinmal proceeded to the Royal Palace where Olasird'arc Haylilyal, the lord of the Frost Dragons and its concubines awaited him. Seeing that Frost Dragon Lord was not willing to surrender peacefully without first threatening him and his items, Ainz quickly made his first move before it could launch an aggressive response. Hence, the said Dragon Lord shortly thereafter collapse on the ground after dying in the hands of Ainz's [Grasp Heart] spell. Seeing the death of their lord, the rest of that Frost Dragon's concubines easily decided to surrender to Ainz. Although Ainz wanted to kill all the other Frost Dragons except one, he was convinced by Hejinmal to spare them as they're all mothers to the latter. Ainz orders Hejinmal to go and gather all his fellow Frost Dragons before him.

...causing the remaining Frost Dragons to submit

Not long after, Ainz was presented Frost Dragons gathered up together by Hejinmal. However, unlike the other Frost Dragons who bow down before him, Ainz was met a hostile confrontation by an unknown child of Frost Dragon Lord. One of the Frost Dragon Lord's children refuses to yield to Ainz, doubting that its father could ever be defeated by an undead like the latter. Upon gesturing the young dragon to land its claw on him to no avail and seeing the face of despair, Ainz then immediately made sure to kill it off with the same spell [Grasp Heart] he did to his father. After that quiet query, the Frost Dragons were bowed even lower than they had been earlier, lying flat on the ground as they no longer harbor doubts of Ainz's power any more. Ainz shortly later commands the Frost Dragons to leave Feo Berkana and go to where his subordinates are waiting at while led away by the Hanzos.

Meanwhile, Shalltear arrived at Ainz's side to present him the subjugated Quagoa that she and Aura had brought under their control to kneel before the Overlord. It was during that moment, approached by the Sorcerer King, Pe Riyuro fearfully pledged his and his race's loyalty to Ainz in serving their new master from now on.

Aftermath[]

Ainz and Gondo loot the treasury

The capital city, Feo Berkana was successfully reclaimed by the Dwarf Kingdom with the major assistance of Ainz, Gondo, Shalltear, and Aura. Not only did the expedition team chase the Quagoa and Frost Dragons out of Feo Berkana, but they have also taken them in as vassals of the Sorcerer Kingdom. Before reporting back of their successful conquest of the city to the Regency Council, both Ainz and Gondo had secretly taken away several but not all of the ancient items from the Dwarf Kingdom's Treasury for themselves.[2]
