In Re-Estize, the king and nobles hold court to discuss the mysterious magic caster that saved Gazef Stronoff and his men. It was revealed that Gazef left the Royal Capital to head for Carne Village where he by chance met Ainz Ooal Gown. Though the Warrior Captain holds Ainz Ooal Gown to be an honorable fellow, the nobles, however, ignore the heroics of the magic caster, and instead cast and slander his name in doubt, surmising that he is an enemy from one of the other nations. Some even recommend bringing Ainz in for questioning using force.

By the end of this invasion, the city is finally saved from the evil clutches of Jaldabaoth and his demonic army as they are repelled by the Dark Hero, Momon and the combined soldiers and adventurers who were there to support him. The capital was visited by envoys of the Holy Kingdom Liberation Army, who came to request for aid to retake the Northern Holy Kingdom from Jaldabaoth. However, all the capital's nobles and adventurers turned them down due to various reasons, including the aftermath of the massacre at the Katze Plains. They managed to get a meeting with Blue Roses where they exchanged information and requested their aid, but they turned them down. Fortunately, the envoys did learn about Momon and how he fought off the demon when it attacked the capital. They thus left the capital to travel to the Sorcerer Kingdom and request his aid.

The stress of an invading army from the Sorcerer Kingdom had already caused chaos to break out within the capital city and many had died as a result. Afterwards, the people of the capital had to take into consideration two options. The first was to flee the capital and move to E-Rantel, while the other option was to remain in the capital, shut their doors, and never come out of hiding. As to which option was more popular, the overwhelming majority of people chose the latter. Those who chose the former were all people with the money, connections, or skills to guarantee their survival even in faraway lands. This was true of why more than around 95% of the capital’s population chose to stay, but only until the king decided to put up a decree.
  +
  +
In other words, the decree was that due to the ever-encroaching army of the Sorcerer Kingdom, the city required more manpower to defend it. All able-bodied men had been drafted to join the battle. Nonetheless, there were those who feared the battlefield and so still chose to hole themselves up, but the amount of people who believed that if they were to not contribute to the war effort, their loved ones would die, held the majority. The streets bustled with men preparing for war. Fathers and their sons alike were soldiers. Those who wished for better rations while they were away made the culinary industry boom. This was all exacerbated by the people’s knowledge that the king had given the order to every merchant within the capital city to keep food prices low.
  +
  +
When the Sorcerer Kingdom's forces were a day's march away from the capital city, there was a silent standoff between the former's army and the Re-Estize Kingdom's army. Nonetheless, talks of negotiations between both sides were initiated by Zanac in hopes of convincing the Sorcerer Kingdom to spare his countrymen. However, after the meeting was over, Zanac informed his subordinates that it was no use, as the Sorcerer Kingdom has already made their plan clear that they had no intention of allowing any of them to survive.

Once the Sorcerer Kingdom conquered the Royal Capital by capturing and infiltrating Ro-Lente Castle, this guaranteed the success of the Fall of the Re-Estize Kingdom for good. Excluding the palace, the Royal Capital that was once known as Re-Estize now laid in ruin after being destroyed by the forces of the Sorcerer Kingdom, particularly by Mare Bello Fiore, who played a major role in its demise. Such destruction that had to happen within this former city were the annihilation of its people and residences.

In the aftermath of its conquest, the remaining nobles led by Marquis Raeven, who betrayed the kingdom, visited the what was left of the city, which was reduced to rubble save for the palace. After accepting their fealty, the Sorcerer King decided to leave the palace standing to show what happens to those who oppose him and his country. However, if some plague were to be born from this, it would be quite troublesome. For that reason, the Sorcerer King ordered the rest of the remains of the city to be burned to the ground by Guren.

The capital has many roads that are left unpaved. Because of this, in the event that such places became wet from the rain, they would turn into mires. Thus, people did not walk in the middle of the path, or in the way of the carriages instead of squeezing at the sides in a disorderly manner. The Kingdom’s citizens were already used to such congestion and walked like they were trying to slip through the cracks, skillfully avoiding others heading in the opposite direction.

An exception to this problem is the central road, as it is in the area of the upper class and thus readily maintained. The houses that were lined up side-by-side are described to be large and magnificent, radiating a feeling of wealth.

After the destruction of the kingdom, it was the only structure left standing and its exterior appearance in pristine condition to serve as a monument of what happens to those who defy the Sorcerer King. All remaining furniture and valuables were then relocated to E-Rantel.

Re-Estize (王都リ・エスティーゼ) was the royal capital city of the Re-Estize Kingdom up until the country fell.

Background[]

Re-Estize was a very ancient city. As the Kingdom was low on finances, most of the roads were unpaved except those in the upper-class area. In addition, there was also a criminal organization named Eight Fingers that was connected to some corrupt nobles. The roads to the Royal Capital of Re-Estize were not very safe to travel on, hence they required several mercenaries to be hired for security reasons.[1]

Chronology[]

The Bloody Valkyrie Arc[]

Main article: The Bloody Valkyrie Arc

In Re-Estize, the king and nobles held court to discuss the mysterious magic caster who saved Gazef Stronoff and his men. It was revealed that Gazef left the Royal Capital to head for Carne Village, where he, by chance, met Ainz Ooal Gown. Though the Warrior Captain saw Ainz Ooal Gown as an honorable fellow, the nobles, however, ignored the heroics of the magic caster, and instead casted and slandered his name in doubt, surmising that he was an enemy from one of the other nations. Some even recommended bringing Ainz in for questioning by using force.[2]

The capital of Re-Estize experienced a major attack planned out by Jaldabaoth[3], which involved surrounding parts of the city with a gigantic wall of flames and amassing demons there.[4] Jaldabaoth and his demon army made it their primary objective to search the capital for a special item belonging to the Eight Fingers that had summoned them to the New World. Soon afterwards, a large section of the capital was engulfed by a huge wall of flames that lit up the city as bright as daylight. In order to prevent this catastrophe from happening, a massive counter strategy made up of city guards and adventurers was established to fight the demons, which lasted throughout the night.[5]

By the end of this invasion, the city was finally saved from the evil clutches of Jaldabaoth and his demonic army as they were repelled by the Dark Hero, Momon, and the combined soldiers and adventurers who were there to support him. However, it came with a heavy price, as many of the cities' guards and adventurer parties were killed. Furthermore, a vast majority of the city's supplies, resources, and citizens were captured and later taken away by the demons.[6] In conclusion, the aftermath of this invasion was that a percentage of Re-Estize's infrastructure was heavily destroyed during the whole raid by the demonic invasion.[7]

In the Valencia Palace, King Ramposa III summoned the royalists and the nobles together for a meeting. The king revealed that he had received a message from the Baharuth Empire, demanding that the Re-Estize Kingdom was to hand over the territory around E-Rantel to the newly founded nation of Nazarick, led by the Sorcerer King, Ainz Ooal Gown. This caused everyone to begin a heated debate over this mad declaration. Eventually, they simply dismissed it as another mere excuse for the Empire's annual war.

Gazef knew that they did not stand a chance against Ainz and advised the king to just hand over the territory. Furthermore, he warned the nobles not to underestimate Ainz Ooal Gown. However, King Ramposa III could not follow the advice of his personal bodyguard and decided to go to war against the Empire and Nazarick.[8]

Following the massacre at the Katze Plains, the Royal Capital became the center of the political turmoil that swept through the country. Princess Renner had an orphanage built in the capital to provide homes and jobs for the children and women who were orphaned and widowed as a result of the massacre.

The capital was later visited by Albedo, who served as an envoy for the Sorcerer Kingdom. While there, she was invited to a ball by Philip, who was hoping to use her to gain power for himself. However, unbeknownst to Philip, Albedo had set the whole thing up with the help from Eight Fingers.[9]

The Paladin of the Holy Kingdom Arc[]

News had already spread throughout various countries, particularly the Roble Holy Kingdom, about the Demonic Disturbance event that had occurred in the Re-Estize capital of the Kingdom.[10]

At this time, many people living in the Royal Capital were still depressed over the Royal Army's devastating defeat at the Katze Plains.

The capital was visited by envoys of the Holy Kingdom Liberation Army, who came to request for aid to retake the Northern Holy Kingdom from Jaldabaoth. However, all of the capital's nobles and adventurers turned them down due to various reasons, including the aftermath of the massacre at the Katze Plains. They managed to get a meeting with Blue Roses, where they exchanged information and requested their aid, but the group turned them down. Fortunately, the envoys did learn about Momon and how he fought off the demon when it attacked the capital. They thus left the capital to travel to the Sorcerer Kingdom and request his aid.[11]

The Witch of the Falling Kingdom Arc[]

However, after the meeting was over, Zanac informed his subordinates that it was no use, as the Sorcerer Kingdom has already made their plan clear that they had no intention of allowing any of them to survive.[12]

The capital falls

Once the Sorcerer Kingdom conquered the Royal Capital by capturing and infiltrating Ro-Lente Castle, this guaranteed the success of the Fall of the Re-Estize Kingdom for good. Excluding the palace, the Royal Capital that was once known as Re-Estize now laid in ruin after being destroyed by the forces of the Sorcerer Kingdom, particularly by Mare Bello Fiore, who played a major role in its demise. Such destruction that had to happen within this former city were the annihilation of its people and residences.[13]

The capital in ruins

In the aftermath of its conquest, the remaining nobles led by Marquis Raeven, who betrayed the kingdom, visited the what was left of the city, which was reduced to rubble save for the palace. After accepting their fealty, the Sorcerer King decided to leave the palace standing to show what happens to those who oppose him and his country. However, if some plague were to be born from this, it would be quite troublesome. For that reason, the Sorcerer King ordered the rest of the remains of the city to be burned to the ground by Guren.[14]

A Map of Re-Estize

The capital had many roads that were left unpaved. Because of this, in the event that such places became wet from the rain, they would turn into mires. Thus, people did not walk in the middle of the path or in the way of the carriages, instead squeezing at the sides in a disorderly manner. The Kingdom’s citizens were already used to such congestion and walked like they were trying to slip through the cracks, skillfully avoiding others heading in the opposite direction.[15]

An exception to this problem was the central road, as it was in the area of the upper class and thus readily maintained. The houses that were lined up side-by-side were described to be large and magnificent, radiating a feeling of wealth.

When walking farther and farther away out from the center of the capital, the roads or the streets started to emanate a dirty and a slightly foul stench permeating the air the closer one closed in. According to Sebas Tian, it was the smell of rotten foods and sewage.

Houses in an affluent neighborhood tended to maintain high public order, even by the capital's standard.[16]

Features[]

Overlord II EP10 080

Ro-Lente Castle: It was located in the center of the city, separated by a wall containing 1,400 meters worth of land. Twelve cylindrical watchtowers protectively surrounded it. The Valencia Palace in the Ro-Lente Castle consisted of three sections, including the residence location for the royal family. In addition, it contained secret passages that not only led into the capital, but outside as well. After the destruction of the kingdom, it was the only structure left standing and its exterior appearance in pristine condition to serve as a monument of what happens to those who defy the Sorcerer King. All remaining furniture and valuables were then relocated to E-Rantel.

Overlord II EP06 006

Gazef's House: The residence of Gazef Stronoff, the Warrior Captain. It was much smaller when compared to the houses that nobles lived in. If one had to compare, the house looked as if a decently wealthy citizen could live in it. Regardless, it was more than enough for three people: Gazef and the old couple working as live-in servants.

Overlord II EP09 106

Upper District Mansion: The rented mansion that Solution Epsilon and Sebas Tian used as a base of operations in Re-Estize while posing as members of a wealthy merchant family from the Baharuth Empire. Since its purpose was only used as a front for Nazarick's activities in the cities, the mansion was mostly bare of any fixtures. It was later abandoned after Nazarick pulled its operations from Re-Estize.

Overlord IV EP02 010

Orphanage: A large building that was constructed after the disastrous Massacre at Katze Plains. It was so new that the scent of its woodwork was still present and still strong by the time the Sorcerer Kingdom sent its delegation to the Kingdom. It was constructed on the orders of Princess Renner to house and protect children who were left orphaned when the Sorcerer Kingdom destroyed the Royal Army. In addition it also housed women who lost their husbands and provided them employment.

Vesture's Dojo Anime

Dojo: A training hall established by the famed adamantite adventurer Vesture Kloff Di Laufen after he retired. In the Anime, it was depicted as a traditional martial arts training area.

Trivia[]

 • The word "old" would be the best way to describe the capital.
 • The capital city guards were even weaker than the lowest rank Adventurers.
 • The Kingdom drafted farmers to be soldiers in times of the upcoming annual war every year, but the palace had trained soldiers to protect it. In addition, they even had stronger soldiers (actual knights) to protect the inner section of Ro-Lente Castle.
 • The Palace Guards were almost always politically appointed because one needed a recommendation from a noble in order to be considered for the job. The Palace guards had some skill with the blade, but that was because they needed to actually look and be the part for the sake of their sponsoring noble. Because if something bad were to happen because they were incompetent, then their sponsoring noble would look bad, but even then, they were still much weaker than Gazef's warrior troops and the King's knights.[18]
 • The knights that protected the inner areas of Ro-Lente Castle were second or third sons of nobility. They were loyal, skilled, and disciplined and also equipped with full steel plate armor.[19]
 • The City Guard was even worse than the Palace Guard. They were often ill-disciplined, unskilled, and incompetent at maintaining public order. The only notable difference between the City Guard and the average kingdom soldier (draftee) was that the City Guard was equipped with chain mail and spear, while the average soldier wasn't even equipped with any armor.
 • People only joined the City Guard mostly due to the fact that their job was supposed to keep order in the city so they could avoid being sent to the front lines. Needless to say, they had zero combat experience. But on the bright side, there were a few groups among them that were actually brave enough to stand their ground and fight for the city.
