Prayers for Mother's Day (マザリングデイに祈りを) is a game event in Mass for the Dead that was released on April 30, 2024 to May 14, 2024.

Background[]

E-Rantel is recovering after the threat of Jaldabaoth. However, rumors are spreading that orphans are disappearing. In the midst of all this, someone takes action to find out the truth. They take one mother's grief and prayers to their heart...[1]

Incident[]

Tuareninya Veyron now working as a maid at a mansion announces to the senior maid that she is done cleaning for the day. As there is no more work left to do, the older maid allows Tuare to leave. The two say their goodbyes promising to see each other at work the next day. After Tuare leaves, a younger maid comments to her senior of how Tuare has gotten used to the job. The elderly maid is glad that Tuare came to work at the mansion as she is a good person and is very attentive and really helpful. The young maid comments that Tuare most have experience hard times in the past.

Outside in the streets of E-Rantel, Tuare is walking in dusk light streets. She momentarily panics at first thinking she saw someone, but is only her imagination. When Tuare see someone who looks like "that girl," she can't help but follow them with her eyes. The maid apparently has taken to walking around town every day off to search for her, but so far it has not been easy locating her.

Tuare pulls himself together and walks through the town again. Eventually, she came to a halt in a residential area of the city. As she approaches the door she hopes the person she is meeting, her friend is feeling better. A knock on the door gets her received in by a haggard looking woman. Tuare smiles at her friend offering her bread that she got from work, and asks how the woman has been. Though judging on how the woman looks, Tuare can tell that she hasn't eaten much. The maid asks her friend if she has received any news since the last time she came. The haggard woman tells Tuare that there is still nothing and that she has tried looking everywhere. Sadden the woman asks the young woman what she should do as she still does not know where "he" is and is afraid that "he" will never come back.

Tuare tells her not to give up, as she herself is asking people around her on the whereabouts of that person and is sure someone will know something. Even as she says it, Tuare knows that it is not much consolation to her friend right now. But Tuare wants to help, though cannot fathom how. The maid then bides her goodbye to go home. No sooner did Tuare leave the haggard woman, the latter's door receives a loud knock. Nervously the woman opens the door, and two brutish men enter her home.

One having a ugly face, greets the woman coldly. He tells the woman that he noticed that Tuare left and is aware that she and her are old colleagues. And notes that Tuare seems to have landed a decent job. Not only that the man says that Tuare has been comforting the woman, a mother whose child has gone missing, sarcastically saying the tale brought him to tears. Seeing the woman's fear, the man states that he has no interest in Tuare, for now. Though that is assuming that the woman does not tell her anything unnecessary. In response the woman pleads to the man to leave Tuare alone as she does not know anything and not to involve her. The man though warns her its all up to the woman. He and his associate leave, but promises to return. After they leave the mother with a missing child, could only pray for the safety of her friend.

At an dark undisclosed room, Saint Clementine meets with the protagonist and Surako to address a serious issue. Previously there were a fair number of orphans at the time of when the world cracked apart. But ever since Jaldabaoth appeared, the number of orphans and abandoned children has been increasing.

Clementine is doing her best to look after them, and of course the people in the town are doing the same. But frankly speaking, the saint is already overwhelmed. And the same could be said of the other guardians who are busy worrying about their own affairs too.

Since the city's reconstruction is the top priority, it's impossible to keep up with the children...and if the number of orphans increases, it will be even worse.

Clementine adds that there has even been a lot of cases of children going missing recently. It seems that most of the children are orphans and abandoned children who don't have much contact with adults. Rumor has it that human trafficking is becoming more and more prevalent.

The news of human trafficking is disturbing to the protagonist. He wonders if there is something like the Black Market brothel that a former member of Eight Fingers was said to be running.

Clementine answers that it seems to be a different case from that time. She checked the Black Market again, but there was no sign of any organization like that operating there. However, it seems that there are people who "take in" orphans and abandoned children in order to sell them, according to rumor.

Surako finds that the fact that such rumors are spreading even though the organization does not operate in a clear manner means that there is actually an organization in place that is managing this information to keep it from leaking out.

Though the saint suggest that perhaps the organization is based somewhere out of the reach of those in the three countries——perhaps outside the city. Either way, they cannot allow any more children to be sacrificed. At the moment, they are managing to get by with shared housing in the old district, but it is clear that they have already reached our limits. Clementine muses if "the plan" that the protagonist presented earlier had gone through, maybe things wouldn't have had to end this way. The plan she is referring to is to establish an orphanage.

At the time, there was opposition from certain people in the three kingdoms, so they had no choice but to put it on hold. The mayor and other key stakeholders in the city were not opposed, but an unexpected interruption came from somewhere. The opposition was the Nobility Faction of the Kingdom. As they believed that orphanage plan is just a front by the protagonist to take advantage of the fact that the other three countries are not proactive in dealing with orphans, and are trying to raise believers in the Sorcerer Kingdom.

There are cases where the Temple runs an orphanage, and the protagonist assumed it would be approved if they were to consider running it in a way that is not biased towards Sorcerer Kingdom, but...the main purpose was to secure an environment in which to educate the orphans in the Sorcerer Kingdom, so those who opposed it weren't entirely wrong.

Clementine believes that they first need to resolve this incident. And hopefully by then those who were opposed to the plan might change their minds. Thus she asks the protagonist his help in solving the case. The homunculus takes the case, not only he can afford to leave the situation as is, but secretly wants to return to the orphanage idea, as the pros and cons were previously discussed by Albedo and Momonga who both were amicable on it. With the news of the missing people, the protagonist will report it as well.[2]

At night, Tuare finally returns home after visiting from her friend's house. However she is thinking back on the events that had just taken place. Tuare's friend appears to be getting thinner and more sickly every time she sees her. And while she supposes it's understandable, since her child is missing, Tuare wonders if that is really all.

Going what Tuare knows about the mother’s daughter, she was born before her life had stabilized after she left Black Honeymooner, and left her in the care of an acquaintance until things settled down. When she finally had some financial security, the mother contacted her acquaintance to ask for her child back. But was told that "the child has been missing for a while..."

Tuare’s friend seems to have been in contact with that person from time to time since she left the child there paying child support. The man supposedly met the woman at his new job, so maybe they weren't that close. Now that Tuare thinks about it, she’s heard rumors of illegal human trafficking, limited to babies and children, is taking place somewhere in the city.

The maid recalls Isabella in her human and demonic form. She remembers that when she was at the brothel, Isabella didn’t throw out women who were pregnant out of the brothel, promising to make sure to “take care of” the babies. Not doesn’t go without saying that there are demons among humans. Even if they don’t kill people, they might say they're taking care of the child for child support.

So far Tuare has only a guess of what is happening with her friend. But she's hiding something and doesn’t know if it's a secret or not. There's nothing Tuare can do about it since she won't tell me. But... there's no doubt that she's so desperate that she's worn out. Her friend hasn't said it directly, but the maid has a feeling and thinks she wants her help. Tuare is at a loss of what she can do, but imagining a mental imagine of Sebas, she decides to do what she can by taking action tomorrow after work.

The next day, after Tuare leaves work at her employment, she headed straight towards a certain destination. On the way, Tuare, deeply wishes that "he" was with her. The destination turns out to be the old district of E-Rantel, where she heard she could meet someone specific. Sadly her quarry is not there, which turns out to be the Saint. Tuare had heard that Clementine was taking care of orphans in the area, but from the looks of it she may have already gone home.

Tuare heard that the saint had cooperated in the crackdown on the Black Market before, so she was hoping that she would somehow listen to her story. Since the sun has already set, the maid supposed that she will have to return home.

Just as Tsuare was turning around to head home, three men appear. One is the same man who had met with Tuare’s acquaintance. The man comments that the maid was in a hurry to get to this alley. The man sinisterly offers to help her, despite Tuare declination. When she refuses a second time, the man makes it clear that he is aware that Tuare is always visiting her "friend" so he came out to meet her to see if had anything on him. That’s why he had his men tail her after she visited her friend. Seeing how she is is a discrete location he wonders who Tuare was trying to meet.

It was then that Clementine emerges to interrupt the conversation. From her point of view, the saint can clearly see that the trio are threatening Tuare. The man leading the thugs tries to learn what business Clementine, a person who has ties to the city’s officials, has with them. The woman answers that she doesn't have any particular reason to be there... but given the shady location and questionable company, leaving a line woman alone with them is not a good thing.

To make sure she inquires to Tuare if she knew the men, which the maid denies. Tuare having proven her assertions and while not understanding the circumstances, doesn't approve of people forcing their kindness on others. The leader of the thugs warns the saint to mind her business. That being regarded as a threat, Clementine takes out her stilettos, promising she won’t be too rough with them just enough that would qualify as self-defense. [3]

All three men are knocked down by Clementine. The men still breathing are given the option by Clementine to run and escape, which the men reluctantly take and flee.

Clementine sheathing her weapons asks Tuare if she was hurt. Tuare is fine and thanks the saint for the assist. Now that they have a moment to talk, Clementine recognizes Tuare from before which the maid is glad and expresses her gratitude to Clementine for her help when she was working in the Black Honeymooner.

Even though it’s been a while since the two have seen each other, and the odd circumstances of their Union, Clementine is glad to see Tuare is doing well. However Clementine warns Tuare from coming to the old district as it seems a bit dangerous to come at this time of day. Tuare apologizes but Clementine waves it off and mused that the girl’s would be attackers had been following her the whole time. Clementine is pretty sure there must be some reason why Tuare came all the way to the area of the city. So she asks Tuare to clarify what that reason is.

Tuare meekly states that she came to ask Saint Clementine to help her friend. Thinking that was the case, but Clementine tells Tuare to hold off from tell her the story until they go to a more secure location.

Afterwards, they moved to a room in the Adventurer's Guild where Tsuare explained the situation to Clementine. Clementine understands now that Tuare is worried for the sake of her friend’s missing child. And that her friend being a mother, has been in a state where she is completely helpless. However, she seems to be somehow managing to continue working.

Based on Tuare’s speculation, she feels like her friend  or her "acquaintances" are hiding something. And could related to the "rumors" she had been hearing lately. That there is illegal human trafficking going on that is limited to babies and children.

This is the matter Tuare wants to discuss with Clementine as she heard that the Saint had worked hard to resolve the Black Market issue before. Clementine who has been listening, believes Tuare’s concerns are correct. And does not discount the possibility that her friend's child was handed over to a "middleman." Th Saint has also heard recently that there are people who are “picking up” orphans and abandoned children, whose numbers are increasing, and selling them elsewhere.

While what she is saying now is merely speculation. But asks Tuare why the person that is her friend’s "acquaintance" not contact the mother when her child went missing? This simple question causes Tuare to realize that her friend suspected knew why her child was missing and kept silent about it due to feeling guilty of allowing her child to disappear. The woman probably knew that no matter how hard she looked for her child, she would never find him.

As for what kind of organization is actually in operation, Clementine states that it is unclear if there is even an organization in the first place. This uncertainty on Clementine's part makes Tuare worried, and rush to the other woman, pleading her to look into the "middleman" in order to find the missing children. The saint is sympathetic to Tuare and her personal connection to this issue, and while she promises to look into the case using her connections, she warns that the results of her investigation may be painful for Tuare and her friend. So she asks if Tuare really wants to know the truth?

Tuare hesitates but affirms her conviction to see the truth with her own eyes. This satisfies Clementine and tells the maid that she is glad and that she was originally planning to investigate the matter, and will let her know as soon as she knows the facts. This earns her gratitude from Tuare who bowed deeply to the saint unaware that Clementine is gazing at her with no emotion.

Going back a bit, in the Great Tomb of Nazarick, in the Round Table Room, a meeting took place between the protagonist, Slimeko and Momonga and the Floor Guardians. After returning to Nazarick, the protagonist reported to his liege about the disappearances that have been occurring in E-Rantel. Momonga sees that the protagonist wants to use this incident to move the orphanage creation plan. The plan was it so happens started out as something trivial, when the protagonist was talking to Yuri Alpha and Pestonya Shortcake Wanko on the topic pf the many orphans among the refugees. Yuri suddenly said "How about building a new orphanage?" Soon the maid suggested using the orphanage to discover and nurture talented people to increase Nazarick's power in the future were laid out, even suggesting the idea that i could lead to technological advances and strengthen Nazarick. The idea triggered the homunculus and dullahan to gather their opinions and make a proposal to Momonga.

But the proposal was shot down by Albedo. In her belief there was not need to give inferior humans any knowledge or skills beyond the minimum level of education. It was enough to give them enough knowledge to be used as cogs in society. While the protagonist felt her words were true, it cannot be said with certainty that there is no possibility that imparting more knowledge than necessary could endanger the safety of Nazarick in the future. In that case, the education given at the orphanage should be limited to what is known locally, and if any of them show talent there, they should think about their future. Nazarick can either win them over and turn them into people who agree with the Sorcerer Kingdom's wishes, or they could eliminate them...using the orphanage as a place to cut the weeds for the this purpose. The protagonist had explained all this to Momonga at that time and he finally got his consent. Although in the end he was met by opposition from the nobles.

At this stage right now, the protagonist states to Momonga that it is unclear what the truth is behind the disappearances occurring in E-Rantel or whether there is a mastermind behind them. However the protagonist believes by solving this case, it will not only maintain peace in E-Rantel, but also provide the perfect excuse to move forward with the plan he proposed. By making the public believe that those who obstructed the establishment of the orphanage were in fact complicit in disrupting public order. Thus it will induce the public to restart the proposal that was previously halted.

While the project isn't a high priority to Nazarick, Momonga finds the Albedo's and others resistance to the plan to be foolish and unpredictable. So he does not wish to delay it and gives his go ahead to the protagonist to solve the case. He recommends that the homunculus seek Nigredo help as she is skilled in detection magic and also to speak with Pestonya. And while the Head Maid is not good at investigating, her love for children is unmatched save for Nigredo. Not only that they were the joint proposers of founding an orphanage so they could probably give the protagonist some advice.

Once the meeting ends, the protagonist and Slimeko walk through the corridors of the 9th Floor. Slimeko asks if they are going to the 5th Floor to see Nigredo, but is told by her partner that they will meet with Pestonya first to tell her what has happened. A [Message] soon comes to him, from Solution Epsilon stationed in E-Rantel. The undercover adventurer relays to her teammate that Clementine wants to see him urgently.[4]

After receiving the call from Solution, the protagonist and Slimeko returned to E-Rantel at the Adventurer's Guild where he found Clementine and Tuare waiting for him. The homunculus immediately recognizes Tuare. Clementine tells her colleague that she needed let him know as soon as possible and explains that Tuare came to her for advice which was related to the matter they discussed the other day. Curious the protagonist wishes to know how the case of missing children he and the saint were discussing was connected to the maid. The maid then gives the protagonist all the details of her friend's situation and how she met with Clementine. Since her run in with the thugs in the alley, Clementine took Tuare and her friend to the guild for her safety as they were being spied by "them".

And not a moment too soon as the saint reports that when they went to check on the other woman, they made it in the nick of time. From what Clementine can gather the orphans and abandoned children who go missing in the city are handed over to a "recruitment agency." The ones who handle the operation are middlemen or brokers but are a little different from merchants. Officially the agency is run as a charity that arranges adoptions as part of a project for nobles in the Kingdom. Or that is at least what the agency is spreading about itself. It turns out that parents who came to the agency after hearing its mandate took their children there, but instead of putting them up for adoption the children were sold to "clients."

Its "customers" include aristocrats and slave traders from both within and outside the Kingdom. Also adding to Tuare's story, Clementine, looked into it and found that the illegal brothels around the country also appear to be their main clients. When a brothel employee becomes pregnant, there is a route to take to "dispose" of the child. Although she is unsure if the same applied to Black Honeymooner, Tuare's former work residence. They know that one of their bases and the facility where they are holding the children, is located somewhere in E-Rantel. Though they are still investigating the specific location an other details.

The protagonist is left impressed by the investigation details, though it pales in comparison of knowing how someone like Tuare knows someone who is involved in the case. But thanks to her they now understand the situation and the homunculus wants to investigate further, including the location of the broker.

After finishing the conversation with the protagonist and the others, Tuare, returned to the room which had been designated as a shelter where her friend is taking refuge. The other woman is in disbelief on what Tuare tells her, before breaking down crying that she knew everything about the men who are involved in the children kidnappings. To elaborate, the woman tells Tuare that shortly after she was told that her child disappeared, she began searching all over the place, when she happened to hear about the rumors of what really happened. The person she entrusted with looking after her child was talking to a man who seemed to be an acquittance of his. That was when she found out what they had been doing since they adopted her child.

She tried to ask for her child back, but she was warned with "Don't ever tell anyone about this" and "Do you care what happens to the people around her?" In short the woman was threatened into silence. This is all understandable to Tuare. But the woman despondently states she never wanted to leave her daughter to someone else, but back then as things continued the way they were they both would end up starving to death. She could not let her child go through that, thus she made the difficult decision to leave her with that man. And now her foolish decision has not only caused her to lose her child, but put Tuare in danger. Tuare's friend finds herself to be despicable as there's no wat that a child would forgive a mother for doing such terrible things and neither does she have the courage to face her daughter.

Tuare cannot blame the other woman, as she had no choice but to give up her precious child. Besides there was no way she could have known that her daughter would be sold off to a broker. Hence it’s not her fault. Tuare tries to convey to her friend that she is not to blame. And while it’s true that the woman has been threatened and withheld the truth, she was still searching for her daughter, meaning she was worried about her. There's no lie about those feelings.

Tuare actually admires her friend as she had the choice to stop searching, but she kept searching, thinking only for her only family. A sentiment Tuare shares because she still can't give up on her sister, Celi, and why she still remains in the city...continuing looking out on the crowd for any sign of her.

The haggard woman is at a loss of words. Tuare offers a consolation that she is sure her friend will see her daughter again. Both she and her are in the same boat, unable to give up and hoping for a reunion. Even something as small as a pill can bring hope. So they should believe, and wait without giving up.

A knock is received at the door to the room, interrupting the conversation. Tuare answers the door and sees that it is the protagonist who wants to have a moment to talk to them. Tuare allows the adventurer to enter. He wants to ask Tuare’s friend some questions, which she allows. His questions pertains to if the mother had any information about the characteristics of the child who disappeared. And also about the person who came to her house.[5]

Afterwards, the protagonist, who had returned from E-Rantel, was seen on the 5th Floor of the Great Tomb of Nazarick. There Pestonya is patiently waiting for the protagonist and Slimeko. The Head Maid informs the protagonists that the "preparation" has already been completed so there's no problem going ahead as is into the Frozen Prison.

The protagonist thanks her and he and Slimeko then enter Nigredo’s room. The woman greets her guests in visiting her as it has been some time since they last saw each other. Nigredo has heard the story from Pestonya and that she said the protagonist wanted her to search for some living beings. The protagonist has a specific target in mind, this one being a baby which he has all noted characteristics.

Nigredo then proceeds to cast her surveillance magic. From her s crying, Nigredo can assure her colleagues that the baby they are looking for is alive. But warns that may change, lamenting on the child’s uncertain future. To emphasize on the danger, Nigredo casts [Crystal Monitor] showing many children locked up in a place with many room. The protagonist suspects that there may be more children in the other rooms and Nigredo reports that there is something else. With his permission, Nigredo activates her magic once again. What is reflect on the [Crystal Monitor] is a far from the city of E-Rantel. A house and a warehouse standing along the road.

At the same time, somewhere in E-Rantel. A two people are having a discussion. One of the individuals complains that the parent of the "product" is being hidden by the saint. A oversight. H one of the people in the room, who apologizes as their subordinate failed to keep an eye on the woman.

The two individuals are clearly aware that the Saint is investigating something.——Apparently knowing she was also talking about something with someone from the Sorcerer Kingdom. This has become a hassle to their plans as not only the Saint is involved but it’s possible that the protagonist as well as caught wind of their scheme. One of the duo does not discount the possibility as the protagonist is a cunning individual. It's only a matter of time before they start feeling them out too.

The "place in question" is brought up and one of the group answers that their subordinates have reported that they haven't seen anyone suspicious so far. Even so some feel that they can't let them find them sooner or later. For now, they can only be more vigilant around the area.

After one of the duo leaves to make preparations, the lone conspirator panics of how this has become a hassle. However, there is no evidence that they were involved. If they feel like it, they can just cut down the people who did it. No matter how much the people from the Sorcerer Kingdom and the Saint sniff around, there's no way they could judge them - a member of the Kingdom's Nobility Faction - without evidence. The individual suspects that the saint and hero may try to enlist the help of the second prince, but at best it will give the nobles a reason to attack the Royalty Faction for their tyranny.

After receiving the information from Nigredo, the protagonist gets permission from Momonga and returns to E-Rantel. At the Adventurer’s Guild he informs Clementine that he has tracked down the location of people who appear to be the middlemen. As for how he was able to obtain the information, the protagonist tells the saint that he sought help from the magic casters of the Sorcerer, and they discovered the place where they are holding the children and their base.

The protagonist spreads out the map he had prepared beforehand. On the map are two red marks in locations far from E-Rantel, representing the broker's headquarters, and the place where the children are being held captive. He also confirms that among them is the child of Tuare’s friend who face is exactly as described by the mother.

Clementine remembers that both of these places are owned by members of the Nobility Faction. Though wonders if this is where the brokers are hiding, which the protagonist is confident that he is correct. Both properties are owned by a member of a noble family who opposed the establishment of the orphanage.

This explains why they had such a hard time locating it. The brokers operation was located outside of E-Rantel as the city and the Black Market are too carefully watched by the Theocracy and the city’s forces. This simple logic allowed these nefarious criminals to conduct their illicit business as the authorities don’t pay attention to the estates of the nobles.

Any crime found in E-Rantel would be swiftly dealt with, but as it is outside their jurisdiction the protagonist is left with a conundrum. If an aristocrat belonging to the Nobility Faction is behind these kidnappings, it will not be easy to expose them completely. Still, it may be possible to shake things up a little. But will require sufficient evidence. Clementine understands and thus will explain the situation to Prince Zanac and Marquis Raeven and ask them to investigate the matter. Meanwhile the protagonist will speak to Guildmaster Ainzach to ask for the cooperation of the adventurers.[6]

Late at night, somewhere in E-Rantel. The city's guards and adventurers urgently recruited by the Adventurer's Guild were secretly gathering together with the goal of cracking down on the broker. Pluton Ainzach addresses the gathering raid force, to inform them of the mission.  After the guildmaster finished explaining the mission, floor plans were distributed to those gathered. Those who received the floor plan quickly confirmed their responsibilities and dispersed to their respective locations to fulfill their roles. Among them were the members of the adventurer teams "Blue Rose" and "Swords of Darkness”.

Gagaran seeing the silver ranked adventurers greets them warmly.  Peter returns the greets to the adamantite adventurer. Lakyus Alvein Dale Aindra asks Peter what assignment his team will be on. It turns out that the Swords of Darkness will be storming the confinement facility. As for Blue Roses they have been tasked to attacking the broker's main base. Since there are a lot of guards supposedly, Lakyus guesses that they will first have to cause a a rukus. The two teams they wish each other luck.

Peter noticing that one of his teammates, Ninya, is looking down asks if she is not motivated by the operation. Ninya says that she is not as enthusiastic as the rest of them, as this situation where people have been deceived and separated from their children is not something she can accept for a family. Lukrut Volve realizes that this incident draws too close to her own experience regarding her long lost sister. Seeing that she has brought a negative atmosphere to the team, Ninya apologizes for dragging them on this job.

However Peter states that she has nothing to apologize as he understands why Ninya quickly volunteered for the mission when the protagonist came to them, before he finished explaining the full details. Lukrut adds that even if she decided on her own herself, they would have followed her to make sure she was okay. Dyne throws in his agreement that there is no one on this team who criticizes her decision. Feeling better, Ninya, thanks her friends before they head out on their assignment.

At the broker's main base, Tina takes out the sentry, before the rest of her team, Tia, Evileye, Gagaran and Lakyus follow behind. Since they see no other guards, the women then head inside to the front to cause a rukus. Gagaran is eager to go wild, but is warned by Evileye to hold back as they still need to collect evidence. At the warehouse, the Swords of Darkness using the floor plans proceed to make their move.

While the guards and adventurers are working to crack down on the perpetrators, the protagonist and Clementine were listening to the results of the investigation conducted by Prince Zanac and Marquis Raeven.

The prince reports to his guests that regarding the mastermind behind this incident, it’s his conclusion that there's no doubt that it’s who he suspects. Raeven explains that they inquired among the nobles belonging to the same faction, and found several testimonies that were incriminating to their suspect.

Although those who gave y did not make explicit statements, it appears that some of them had actually been on the "scene." Of course, this was the result of questioning the mastermind himself. Though he denied all the allegations, feigning ignorance. That incident was a result of him giving too much discretion to those involved in the practical aspects of the charity. And offered his apologies for the misunderstanding.

In short, the noble is cutting off his lizard's tail to let someone else take the blame. He seems to be quite confident that no matter what happens, the situation will not be unfavorable to him. Raeven believes that the noble is under the impression that perhaps he has covered up or destroyed all incriminating evidence. Clementine believes that may be possible if the noble was careful. That being said, Zanac didn’t think the nobles would say they didn’t  know who the "people at the scene" were. For the time being, he will continue to pursue this line of inquiry.

While not much of an official response to the crimes of the nobility, it’s a start to the protagonist. He knows that Prince Zanac is right, considering how cleverly the enemy had been controlling information up until now. The only way is to lay out a trap moat and corner them. An idea occurs in the protagonist’s mind. And asks the prince if it is correct to say that at this point in time there is no "evidence" that the nobleman behind this was directly involved? Zanac confirms this to be correct. And so the protagonists asks, if there is even a little bit of that "evidence" - for example, physical evidence from the disposal - left behind, then the prince can catch them all in one fell swoop, right? Zanac intrigued is curious of what the adventurer is planning. However the protagonist requests him Highness, if he would allow him to take charge on this matter. Now more interested Zanac asks him to elaborate, leading to the talks to continue into the morning.[7]

Aftermath[]

By morning the crackdown on the brokers was a success. After the children who had been held captive in the broker's facility were rescued, they were temporarily placed in the Temple's orphanage... and then, once their identities were confirmed, were returned to their parents.

A few days later,——in front of the Temple in the city of E-Rantel, a constant stream of parents coming to pick up their children is seen. Tuare navigating through the crowd sees her friend. She runs over to her friend, who was holding a small baby sleeping peacefully. Tuare is relieved to see that her friend has reunited with her baby. Equally the mother is glad, as her child was found to have an ailment but able to receive treatment, anything afterwards would have been dangerous it discovered later by the members of the Temple.

Tuare's friend is thankful for what Tuare has done for her and grateful that her child is alive. She still has guilt for getting Tuare roped into her mess, but the maid says its alright. What's amazing to her friend is that Tuare went out of her way for such a stupid woman like her, even seeking an audience with the Saint, something she should have done, though lacked the courage to do so.

Tuare embarrassed tries to down play her bravery, admitting that if she were in the same position as her friend, she would have done the same thing as staying quiet. To herself it would have been just like what happened at the Black Honeymooner, where she had no choice but to be scared for her life. But even so, Tuare was able to act, remembering she found strength in Sebas's presence who helped her.

The young mother tells Tuare that at the Temple earlier, she had the opportunity to speak with one of the adventurers who rescued the children. The woman hopes to go to the Adventurer's Guild and thank that adventurer properly. Tuare interested asks if the adventurer gave a name, which the other woman provides.

At the same time, the protagonist received news from Ainzach and was on his way to the Adventurer's Guild. There, Ainzach with Clementine explains to the hero that the crackdown on the brokerage was completed without incident...and the investigation is ongoing.

Everyone at the brokers headquarters has been arrested, and most of the potential evidence has been seized. All those involved are in prison cells...and the guild is asking the city mayor to take action.

The progress is all thanks to Blue Roses. For the dates of the the children who were locked up in the detention facilities, most of the captive children were rescued, but due to the conditions in the detention facilities being so poor, a significant number of children died while incarcerated or after being rescued.

Clementine states that for the time being, they are checking the condition of the surviving children who were rescued at the Temple and are providing them with appropriate treatment. The Swords of Darkness who were in charge of rescuing the kids did an admirable job, though it was beyond their power to prevent such needless deaths.

However, the information the protagonist provided...from the results of the magic caster of the Sorcerer Kingdom was of great help. Copies of documents recording sales to slave traders from other countries and identification of those locations where the dead children were disposed of greatly contributed to the downfall of the illicit operation. All this has been passed to the second prince

The protagonist is glad things worked out, as he would have imagined that the nobleman behind the plot himself would have destroyed the evidence, but probably only got as far as he could reach it. Other than that, "the others"...for example, the evidence held by the "parties" with whom they made transactions may be difficult to handle...

Clementine states that it was as the protagonist believed. Even if it was a slave trade, if a merchant were to make a transaction, they would always create documents containing records of the transaction. It would be one thing if the slave trade was illegal in a country, but it is even worse in a country where it is officially recognized.

Of course, the protagonist is sure the transaction was devised so that it couldn't be traced directly to the noble himself, via several agents. No matter how many agents you use, some things will always eventually lead back to the mastermind. Such as the “profits” gained through illegal business.

If you follow the flow of money through records of transactions with merchants in other countries, even if the money was converted into other goods or passed through other people——In the end, it all ended up in the pockets of the mastermind. However, without the cooperation of the Sorcerer Kingdom, it would have been impossible to track down the money so thoroughly.

Azinach is impressed by the protagonist’s keen insight as without that idea, the punishment for the nobleman who was the mastermind behind this would have been much lenient.

There is one more item which the guildmaster wishes to discuss. He just got a call from the Temple. They've almost completed handing over the children whose identities have been identified, but there are still children who have yet to be picked up.

It looks like they’re children who were handed over to them illegal "brokers". This means that some parents and caregivers have circumstances that they absolutely do not want to be known to the public.

The Temple also has an orphanage, but there are limitations in terms of size and functionality to continue caring for the rescued children. This disappoints the protagonist but acknowledges that they can't rely on the Temple's kindness forever.

That in mind, to the shock of the homunculus, before the protagonist arrived, Ainzach had already spoken to Clementine. And it looks like the city is going to start seriously discussing the reopening of that orphanage that was closed down a while ago.

After returning to Nazarick, the protagonist reported to Momonga, Demiurge, Albedo, Pestonya and Sebas Tian about the outcome of the incident and that the decision to establish an orphanage had been made official. In addition the nobles who were involved in the brokerage will be formally investigated for other crimes as well. And are also currently investigating the clients identified in the case.

Demiurge comments that among the broker's customers were not only from the Kingdom, but also from other countries...nobles and merchants. However he doesn't know how much investigation will be carried out against them, but he thinks this will at least deal a certain blow to those who are opposed to the establishment of the orphanage.

Momonga agrees, and thanks the protagonist as not only has he contributed to maintaining peace in E-Rantel, but also seized an opportunity that could be of benefit to them in the future. Momonga then decrees that he will continue to leave the establishment of the orphanage to the homunculus, offering him anything he needs in the endeavor. The protagonist understands and gets straight to it to ask Momonga one thing.

Later while walking in the corridor of the 9th Floor, with Sebas Tian and Pestonya, the protagonist agrees to contact the Head Maid again later about their future plans. The Head Maid looks forward to hearing from the protagonist. The protagonist promises to do his best to avoid interfering with her regular work and apologizes for any inconvenience to Sebas.

Sebas finds it no trouble, having nothing to say, content to allow Pestonya to help the protagonist in his mission. The butler is counting on Pestonya to take on the task of founding the orphanage in E-Rantel. Pestonta feels honored and then decides to go and convey this to Nigredo on the 5th Floor. The protagonist wants to join her as he would also like to express his gratitude to her for the other day.

As Arucha called out to Pestonya, he suddenly remembered something and stopped in his tracks. The protagonist informs Sebas that he met Tuare previously at the Black Market in E-Rantel, reporting she looked to be in good health. Everything is stated in the details he passed to Momonga earlier, but... he doesn't think this incident would have been resolved like this if she hadn't taken action to help her friend. Sebas is silent on the revelation, but is nonetheless has an expression that showed some sense of relief.

A few more days later, Tuare taking advantage of a long-awaited day off, visits the Adventurer's Guild. Her visit is to thank the adventurer who saved her friend's child. After speaking with the guild's receptionist on information of the adventurer, the maid waits in the lobby for them to arrive. While it may not be that easy to meet the person, given adventurers have jobs too, Tuare patiently waits for their arrival. From what she gleamed on the adventurer, her name seems to be Ninya and a member of the Swords of Darkness. While waiting, Tuare can't help but feel that there is something special with this meeting.

At the Frozen Prison, in Nigredo's room, the owner is seen dressed in a maid outfit. Nigredo finds the attire to be acceptable, while Pestonya and Yuri observe her trying it out. Pestonya finds the the equipment suits Nigredo, with Yuri adding that the design is based on the maid outfit that Pestonya normally wears, but she thinks it will hold up well even when used around children.

Hearing the mention of the equipment being used on children, perks Pestonya's ears, at first thinking Yrui intends to have the equipment be used when fighting enemies, but realizes that Yuri is only referring it to be used in the vicinity. Pestonya reiterates that the clothes allow for easy movement, perfect when dealing with children who have limitless physical strength, after all. Nigredo hearing that is of the same conclusion.

Pestonya notes that they have gotten down the uniforms for the staff just fine. And now she would like to summarize the number of staff to be hired and the recruitment criteria later which Nigredo and Yuri are fine with. Before their meeting ends for the orphanage, Nigredo asks if she can wear the maid outfit for awhile. The Head Maid while cleaning the table in the room sees no reason why not, though asks why to Nigredo.

Nigredo sitting down in a chair while knitting explains that according to the protagonist, some of the children who were held captive died. This she wants to at least mourn for them. She heard that this outfit is similar to the outfit worn by priests so sje thought that while she was wearing it, she could wish happiness for both living and dead children. This touches the Head Maid and Pleiades maid's hearts. Nigredo contines that for the sake of our living children and our future children...eh must complete this mission, earning a firm agreement by Pestonya.

Later on, with the backing of the Sorcerer Kingdom, an orphanage was established in the city of E-Rantel, and orphaned babies and children were taken in. Also, at the orphanage that was founded at Pestonya's initiative, the majority of the staff were women who had lost their husbands or families in the Jaldabaoth incident and other incidents.

It turns out that some of Tuare's friends are among the new staff members, and Tuare also begins to lend a hand in her spare time from work----and before long, Ninya of the Swords of Darkness also begins to visit the orphanage frequently-----but that's a story for another time.[8]
