This is the third chapter of Overlord New World.
Summary[]
Albedo stepping out of the carriage introduces herself as an emissary of the Sorcerer Kingdom to Prince Zanac. The prince stunned at her appearance, bows before the woman, greeting her on behalf of his kingdom. Satisfied with his response, Albedo allows the royal to rise.
Zanac asks what may he call Albedo, who states that she holds the position of Overseer Guardian and is second-in-command of the Sorcerer King. The title draws a blank to the prince, who moving on Zanac informs Albedo of her itinerary whiling staying in the Royal Capital for a few days. There will be a court dinner tonight with the royal family, while tomorrow is s stage for a viewing party with the Kingdom's aristocracy and the day after is a concert. All such activities are looked forward by Albedo.
One Week Before
In the front of the mansion in E-Rantel, Ainz with his maid attendant Lumière is seeing off Albedo who will be going to the Re-Estize Kingdom to open diplomatic relations. The Overlord warns her to be careful, as the people who brainwashed Shalltear are still active somewhere. And there is th epossibility that someone may try to manipulate Albedo to hurt Nazarick. Albedo knows this hence she will not let go of Ginnungagap. So long as she has her World Item she will be fine. Still AInz tells her to take care as even theough she is strong, the enemy might not just have a World Item.
In any case Albedo should not let her guard down. The Overseer Guardian has always been guarding from the rear, but now this is the first time she will be going out, hence why Ainz is very anxious. He tells her to stay alert and if she is in danger to flee immediately. To alleviate his worries, Ainz spare no expense in providing Albedo with some transfer items to teleport herself in case. Though he nit picks on the details of the possibilities she might face enemies that can obstruct teleportation and use decoys to divert attention to sneak up on their prey. He leaves is lecture on precautions at that, believing he has told everything Albedo needs to stay safe.
Albedo happily accepts all of the advice and vows to do her best to live up to her name as Overseer Guardian. Ainz concern about of of catching a cold while she is away on her trip, adds for Albedo to be careful in that while she may have complete immunity to disease, there may be diseases in this world that she might no overcome.
On that note, Albedo suggests a wonderful preventative medicine, which to her is a kiss. To Ainz's dismay, Albedo argues that kissing relieves stress and activates the parasympathetic nervous system. Which once increases, improves the immune system. The drool and love lust is obvious to Ainz as she compels him to kiss her so that she does not get sick. Instead of picking her a kiss on the lips as she expects, Ainz presses his bare skull against her cheek. The act proves satisfactory to Albedo, bringing her to tears. The Overlord comforts her by patting her head until she calms down, and apologizes for showing an unsightly appearance.
The time for Albedo to depart has come, and she boards her carriage. As Ainz waves goodbye to her with Lumiere, he tells the general maid to forget what happen, who complies with his order.
Present[]
Later at the party hosted by the royal family, a noble named Philip Dayton L'Eyre Montserrat is musing to himself of how lucky he is. Despite thinking himself lucky, he detests the other nobles around him, thinking they are looking down at him for his plain looking clothes, which he blames his own father for being incompetent in preparing for him. Philip has this opinion of everyone around him, but thinks that luck is on his side. His brother having been killed by the Sorcerer King, allowed Philip, the third son, to ascend to be a noble. He plans to show everyone his competence by making a lot of money, through his innovative plan. He has confidence in his plan, due to his connections. Once that happens Philip believes that he will be rich enough that those who mocked him will regret it.
A man announces the appearance of the envoy of the Sorcerer Kingdom, Albedo. All the nobles at the hall, including Philip, are left breathless by the woman. As King Ramposa III, along with his son and daughter welcome her, Philip entranced by Albedo, yearns to make her his. Due to his delusions that he can enrich his territory, through his efforts, Philip believes without question that even the princess or Albedo could be his. Taking a step forward, riding on his belief he is a lucky man, Philip greets Albedo. This shocks the nobles in attention at the audacity, though Philip seeing that he is the center of attention, basks in it holding himself as the man at the center of the kingdom for his bold move.
Later back at his family's estate, his father is angry that Philip is planning to invite the emissary of the Sorcerer Kingdom to a ball he is holding. His father is furious as he did not send Philip to the ball to approach the emissary, but to introduce him to the count and his faction so Philip could be acknowledge as part of noble society. He berates his son for wasting the invitation to the ball. He hopes at least Philip introduce himself the count, though the young heir did not, and keeps it to himself. Instead Philip tries to point out to his father that their territory lies between the Sorcerer Kingdom and Royal Capital. If a war starts between the two kingdoms, their territory will suffer, thus he thinks that they should deepen their friendship with the Sorcerer Kingdom.
This is venomously rejected by the older noble, calling Philip an idiot as he refuses to join hands with the people who killed Philip's brother. Worse Philip's words sound like treason, though the young noble sees no issue with this as it is obvious to him which nation is stronger. To allay his father's accusation, Philip claims he only suggested it, as to wanting to protect their territory and people. To do so they need to make connection. His father dubiously demands what connections is his son talking about as the surrounding lords would not stand for such an affront.
Exhausted Philip's father sees that his son's thinking is too shallow as associating his daydreams with reality. He tries to explain to his son that many people died at the Katz Plains, leaving fewer people in the kingdom that will lead to all sorts of problems. Thus the surrounding nobles will need to work closely together, by sharing and producing the necessary things in each territory to get through the manpower shortage. If their fanily courts favor with the Sorcerer Kingdom who will assist them? If they were to cut ties with the other territories, their domain only includes a village and does not produce anything special to export.
The lecture only makes Philip try to convince his father to side with the Sorcerer Kingdom. The older noble asks why would the Sorcerer Kingdom would support a village of an enemy nation. Philip merely states that if it was him he would do that. And when the young scion fails to provide any additional reason other than there isn't one, it leaves both Philip's father and his butler dumbstruck on the young man's stupidity.
Philip's father tries to point out that such a situation would create a caus belli for war. However Philip only highlights his ignorance believing that the Sorcerer King would not to that as it is too evil. The head of the Montserrat family weary of his son's wishful thinking, asks why he is so trusting toward the Sorcerer Kingdom.
In truth Philip does not trust the Sorcerer Kingdom, as the naive noble views the other nation to be nothing more than a pawn. His delusional thinking goes as far to believe everyone in the world is a tool for his sake like a game of chess. He tells his father that so long as they think smart they have nothing to fear from the Sorcerer King and that all they have to roll with it.
Upon hearing that answer, Philip's father is too stunned on his son's shallow thinking that he doesn't even have the words. His butler interjects on the young noble’s plan in inviting the emissary from the Sorcerer Kingdom to a ball hosted by the Montserrat family. One details that concerns him is where it will be hosted, as there is no place to host it in their estate.
Philip tells them not to worry as he already arranged renting a mansion with the aid of a hostess he knows. When asked how he will get the money for this, he tell them that it was free. This only worries the family butler that Philip has been fooled. But Philip insists that the hostess is trustworthy and agreed to invest in his plan. Philip's father then inquires who the hostess is.
The hostess is revealed to be Hilma. At the date of the ball hosted by the Montserrat Family, at the mansion prepared by Hilma, the woman is seen more sickly now and vomiting in a washroom. This is due to still retaining traumatic memories of being bathed in cockroaches in Nazarick. Once she finally recovers, he urges herself to do her role properly. The prostitute then goes out into the mansion to warmly greet the arriving guests.
This irks Philip watching nearly as he is the organizer of the event, and yet everyone is approaching Hilma like she is in charge. Philip blames it this on the incompetence he is surrounded with. Hilma noticing the noble's approach informs him that everyone who was invited is here. At the same time she notes that he seems dissatisfied, but he denies this. But Hilma insists that there be no secrets between them as she is his supporter in this endeavor and that by helping him, she stands to gain.
As for the nobles gather at the rented mansion, Philip notes them not to be anyone exceptional to be part of his new faction he plans to create. Hilma explains that due to the war, many of the nobles present are recently elevated heirs. And while they are nothing special, they need a wise person to guide, which she hints to be Philip. And feeds on his ego, by saying that he could take advantage of this by use the other nobles in this faction to serve him. This convinces Philip that he will rule over everything soon.
Albedo soon appears to walk with him to greet the guests. Philip is taken by the woman's scent and is blushing haplessly before her. As they walk to the ballroom, Philip asks if Albedo is married. Albedo responds gently that she has not yet taken a partner. Philip finds this to be strange given Albedo's beauty, though at the same time finds it less troubling for him. Before they reach the door to the ballroom, Philip placed his hand on her shoulder. The action results in a brief tense moment which is felt by Philip. The noble is confused at the sensation, but his concerns evaporate as Albedo urges him to enjoy the party.
Hilma overlooking the gathering, mentally narrates to herself that they are all third rate nobles, trash that of the aristocracy in the Kingdom. There appears to be no first rate noble among the group, which would have been worth reporting, but it seems that is not the case.
Her musings are interrupted by Philip who informs her that Albedo wishes to rest after speaking with so many of the guests. Hilma plans to escort Albedo to the break room, and Philip invites himself to accompany them as he insists that he be by Albedo's side. From this Hilma's can see that Philip is a genuine idiot.
Hilma then explains that she understands that as the organizer of the event, he would be worried for Albedo. But it would be improper for a gentleman to accompany a woman, who is not her husband, to the rest area. Such a scene could create bad rumors. She thus will take charge in attending to Albedo's need. Philip taking a moment to think then asks the woman what he should do in order to marry Albedo. The question leaves Hilma utterly shocked, thinking these are only the words are stupid, if not crazy.
Unaware of Hilma's discomfort, Philip believes that since he is the man who managed to gathered so many nobles under him, Albedo's hand in marriage is not far behind. Hilma is stunned at the sheer stupidity of the idea, as Philip absolutely held no appeal to Albedo. And also causes Hilma to be terrified at the prospect of Albedo, second in command of the Sorcerer Kin, hearing this bold wish from Philip. As she fears this stupid man will bring her punishment.
When Philip goes on to belittle the Sorcerer Kingdom's territory, being only a city-state, Hilma chastises him for such ignorance. Furthermore she decries that he has no chance to marry Albedo. However he did not even hear her, only listening to himself on how good the two of them looked as a couple. Hilma can only pray silently, begging that the man did not do anything to provoke Albedo.
Later alone with Albedo as they walk to the rest area, Hilma is in dreadful fear of upsetting her superior. Behind her Albedo can be seen vigorously wiping her shoulder, where Philip touched her. The demon is disgusted that a filthy human touched her, whose body belongs to Ainz Ooal Gown. Hilma offers her apologies, and suggests that she can get another "puppet" if she so pleases. Albedo having calmed down, decides against replacing Philip as her anger towards him was just a nuisance. But the Overseer Guardian admits that the man's stupidity leaves many impressed especially among nobles. That stupidity in itself is a talent and could be wasted if not put to use.
On common ground now, Hilma sympathizes that the man is one who did nothing and yet believes he is special. A truly ultimate level of incompetence. Which Albedo agrees adding she will soon be able to splatter him to the ground one day.
They arrive at the room, where a trio of hooded men gathered at a table stand in respect to Albedo. Though it is clear that the trio are trembling in fear before her. The Overseer Guardian then proceeds to give the men orders, such as sending supplies to the Sorcerer Kingdom. One of the men slavishly offers to provide the necessary supplies for free, but is declined by Albedo as she prefers to offer the appropriate price, advising him to use the money to prepare for food shortages that will hit the Kingdom in the future.
Another item is Albedo's request for information on magic items. One of the hooded figures slams his head repeatedly n the table in apology as he only just recently he people to the Magician's Guild to investigate. This is fine by Albedo son long as she receives a report soon. Albedo then asks the group on who they have decided who will receive the next "baptism"?
Sometime later, in Ro-Lente Castle, a maid, rushes to inform Princess Renner that a messenger from the Sorcerer Kingdom wishes to meet her.
