This is the first chapter of Overlord New World.

Summary[]

The chapter begins with an overview of the story so far.  YGGDRASIL, a DMMO-RPG game, which became a popular game after twelve years now had ended its service.

Ainz Ooal Gown, one of the top ten guilds in the game and whose membership comprised solely of heteromorphs was led by Momonga aka Suzuki Satoru. Momonga spent YGGDRASIL's last moments in the guild base, the Great Tomb of Nazarick, expecting his friends would join him. However in the end he was all alone.

Though the game service had ended, Momonga is transported in his game avatar to a similar yet different world. Not only that the NPCs that were created by his former comrades had come to life and since then Momonga changed his name to Ainz Ooal Gown.

In the New World, Ainz seeks the unseen strong ones and acquire all unknown technologies. Atop of that he is on the watch for players from YGGDRASIL who like him were transferred to the New World. He has taken the name of the guild built by his friends in order to make it infamous in the New World.

At the same time, Ainz finds himself swept away by the NPCs rich personalities. And he begins to start taking action to learn more about this New World. Either by saving people or killing people. Sometimes giving or sometimes taking. Steadily the name of Ainz Ooal Gown is making its mark on the world.

And after the Massacre at Kazte Plains, ownership of the fortress city E-Rantel was transferred from the Re-Esitize Kingdom to the Sorcerer Kingdom of Ainz Ooal Gown. Where he reigns as the Sorcerer King, building a place where all can laugh and spend time with all sorts of demi-humans and heteromorphs. Where many species can coexist just like in the guild of his comrades. Soaked in sweetness, Ainz sees himself wanting to rule forever. A utopia is what Ainz aims for by recreating the nation in the image of Ainz Ooal Gown. Once he achieves this, Ainz believes he can proudly honor his former friends and show them their dream country.

The chapter then resumes from the previous. Despite Ainz's hopes for his kingdom, he and his entourage are met with fear by the human inhabitants of E-Rantel. Upon sighting him, pedestrians rush to avoid his presence. Ainz notes the cold reception he has received in his kingdom, before he turns his attention to a troop of Death Knights passing by. They are undead that now serve as the city guard, manning the walls, and clearing monsters in the area. Thanks to them, the city's safety has now increased significantly. A percentage of the population have also gone with the Death Knights to work the land. Though the undead still can't believe how unpopular he is.

Ainz goes over to the Adventurer's Guild, and to his surprise he finds it empty, a contrast of when he was Momon. His appearance at the guild shock the attending receptionist. The Sorcerer King inquires about the so few requests on the bulletin board, which is due to the result of the Death Knights ensuring public safety thus reducing the jobs for adventurers.

When he had come as Momon, he came to see that adventurers in this world were nothing more than mercenaries that hunted monsters. If they lived in a safe society people wouldn't need them. This makes him reminisces of YGGDRASIL of how the game motivated him to travel the world in search of the unknown. This causes a yearning for the excitement of what an adventurer should be, not like a job which disappointed him. Just like another dreamless job. Ainz soon has an idea form. Even if they make the Sorcerer Kingdom into a utopia, down the road it would be useless if the world does not know about it. No matter how good the product they have, if the information isn't reaching the people who want it, they won't buy it, same as if the information isn't reaching the people who want.

The idea of sales and advertising prompts Ainz to take this course as he was an experience office worker in this field. By advertising the "Wonderful Reign of the Sorcerer Kingdom". And marketing to various species. For that purpose, Ainz requests the reception a meeting with the guildmaster. The guildmaster, Pluton Ainzach meets the Sorcerer King in a reception room, which Ainz notes had he been Momon the conversation would have taken place in the guildmaster's office. With much trepidation, Ainzach greets the monarch, and so Ainz brings up his suggestion of incorporating the Adventurer's Guild into the Sorcerer Kingdom.

The guildmaster merely states it is as the Sorcerer King wills. This elicits surprise from the Overlord, as he voices that he had heard that the Adventurer's Guild does not involve itself in the state affairs. Not only that he suspects that Ainzach will encourage other adventurers to relocate to the Kingdom or Empire, before handing him an empty guild. The guildmaster does not deny these words, and wonder aloud if the Sorcerer King read his thoughts.

Ainz then states that the Adventurer's Guild doesn't belong to any nation as it is an organization that exists to defend the people and its neutrality is so that it cannot be use for war. What Ainz says is confirmed by the guildmaster. However Ainz states that he wishes to task adventurers with other jobs.

As an example, he uses the wilderness in the southern land between the Theocracy and the Holy Kingdom. He queries if Ainzach knows the terrain and what kind of monsters live there. All the human can provide is general knowledge that it's a land filled with tribes of demi-humans and that those who traveled there never returned alive, thus there is no substantial information. Neither does he have any information on the mountains southwest of the nation.

From this ignorance, Ainz concludes that such knowledge about where people live is unnecessary to an organization that claims to protect the people. Though such thinking is fastidious as there many be medicinal herbs that grow naturally in those places. Before Ainzach can respond, the Sorcerer King informs the human that he intends for the adventurers to fill in the blank spaces on these locations and eventually make the world a smaller place. By making the unknown known and allow [adventurers] to have an "adventure."

The definition of an "adventurer" is asked by Ainz, stating they could not just be "exterminators." The guildmaster claims that they have a duty to protect the people, but is countered by Ainz who states that his subordinates are protecting the country now, hence why the number of requests have decreased for the guild.

Though he admits that his subordinates are only so good at killing the enemy. And many of them are not so sure about being friendly to those they meet in the unknown. Thus Ainz wants the adventurers to take on the role. When Ainzach asks if it would be better for the monarch to just request the guild, the Sorcerer King, states that if adventurers are to have any kind of relationship with an unknown race or nation, should a problem arise would the guild be able to resolve it on its own? And could Ainzach do this without incurring any losses to the Sorcerer Kingdom?

Doing so would only reduce the number of precious adventures and the skilled...which is why Ainz proposed his plan to Ainzach. He intends to bring the Adventurer's Guild under his umbrella, and assures that they would have his full support. As part of his support from his kingdom, Ainz informs Ainzach that a training camp is being set up to train adventurers to fight unknown monsters.

Or the option of building a dungeon and have the adventurers conquer it. Such resources are noted by Ainzach to be tempting by lowly adventurers. And Ainz even adds that his kingdom will provide something for mid-range and high-ranking adventurers, like more powerful weapons and armor which is regarded as a very likeable idea.

The Sorcerer King addresses Ainzach directly, stating he is disgusted that adventurers are just "exterminators" to the world. And that it is deplorable to the name they give themselves. What shocks the guildmaster is when Ainz asks him if he wants to go adventuring under the banner of the Sorcerer Kingdom, claiming that he want his kind to become actual adventurers.

The words, strike a chord to Ainzach, who confesses that Ainz's made a number of attractive proposals on this idea. But he has one question: "Will the discovery of the unknown be used to help the Sorcerer Kingdom invade?" A difficult question, given they are dealing with an unknown location and unknown people. If they prove hostile to the Sorcerer Kingdom, then they may take the initiative and attack. Reasoning that if there was someone dangerous close to you, it was only natural to have to deal with it. Ainzach asks what if the unknown people are peaceful, and if then annexation would still be on the table and resistance to be expected. Ainz gets to the point that the guildmaster is talking about elves. And notes that humans will always try to identify with species similar to themselves and eliminate those that aren't.

He then goes on a talk of what Ainzach think of ogres, orcs, and lizardmen? Ainzach reacts in apprehension as demi-humans think of humans as food. Ainz refutes Ainzach that the Sorcerer Kingdom forbids its people from eating each other. And that it is a country that accepts all races as its citizens and that the living will need to cooperate with each other. If they all come under his control Ainz will ensure all the races that are citizens will be equal.

This comes contradictory to what Ainzach expected for the Sorcerer Kingdom as he assumed everyone would be slaves. In regards to slavery, Ainz had observed that the Empire enslaved elves on the side. He rebukes that guildmaster claim that it existed to protect the people, but that is proven untrue as their protection did nothing for the elves.

In any case, the Sorcerer King informs the guildmaster that many tribes of demi-humans are under his protection and will be coming to E-Rantel soon. This comes as a shock, and Ainz assures that it will not be as be imagine it to be. Ainzach acquiesces that he will take what Ainz suggested and see what various others will have to say about it. But Ainzach is convinced that his dream job as an adventurer will come from under the umbrella of the state. Thus as a former adventurer, Ainzach will cooperate, formally address the Sorcerer King. Ainz then bids Ainzach goodbye promising to contact him again regarding future policies.

After leaving the guild, Ainz finds himself exhausted, complaining he had to do a presentation with zero materials, making him sick to his stomach. All in all he feels that it went well. If adventurers from the Sorcerer Kingdom spread their wings out into the world, then they could promote his nation to various races. And then many more adventurers will bring life back to the city. Since his proposal will become a big deal, the undead wonders how he is going to tell Albedo. In how is he going to explain the benefits of the Adventurer's Guild to fit her mindset.

Back in the reception room, Ainzach's office door, open revealing a name named Theo Rakheshir, the guildmaster of the Magician's Guild. The other guildmaster asks Ainzach if everything is alright. He expresses his shock that the Sorcerer King would come to see Ainzach when they were conducting a secret meeting. Ainzach believes that Ain was aware of Theo's presence as he stared at the door to the guildmaster's office, but allowed him to listen to the conversation between him and Ainzach. Theo notices that Ainzach is referring to Ainz by "His Majesty", a title of honor, and asks if the Sorcerer King put a spell on Ainzach. The veteran adventurer states that's not possible and eve if it were, he voices that he wishes to help in the Sorcerer King's proposal.

Ainzach confesses that he was surprised when he spoke to His Majesty. Finding him very intelligent, and gave off the same vibe as Momon. Though the comparison to Theo is a bit disrespectful to Momon. But Theo does agrees that when eavesdropping on the conversation, the words of the Sorcerer King touched his heart. Thus he declares, that the Magician's Guild, no he, as a friend to Ainzach will lend his support to the proposal. When all is said and done, Theo offers Ainzach that they should go on an adventure in search of the unknown. Ainzach react by joking worrying that Theo would reconsider taking an adventure, given his age. Nevertheless both veteran agree to the journey. For that reason alone, Theo suggests they should ask the Sorcerer King to not put age restriction on the Adventurer's Guild.

In the Re-Estize Kingdom, Climb is chaperoning someone at a flower bed, asking them to take care while she handles the thorns. His concern is noted by a smiling Princess Renner Theiere Chardelon Ryle Vaiself.
