Overlord Manga Chapter 23

This is the twenty-third chapter of the Overlord Manga.

Summary[]

Cocytus asks Ainz to spare the lizardmen. Albedo is enraged at the fact that Cocytus objects to the punishment given to him for his failure and asks if he is afraid of the lizardmen.

Ainz stops Albedo and starts to question Cocytus' reasons himself. Cocytus responds that the lizardmen could become powerful warriors in the future and that Nazarick could use them if they were made into loyal followers.

Ainz agrees, saying that their corpses can't become stronger undead that human corpses. However, undead made from their corpses are already loyal, as well as don't need as much maintenance as living beings. He asks Cocytus for any other reasons. Cocytus is unable to answer.

Demiurge however, steps forward to make a suggestion. He states that because some time in the future Nazarick will have to rule over many people, they could use the Lizardmen as an experiment. Ainz agrees to this and says that instead of killing them, Cocytus must now rule over them and make them loyal to Nazarick without using fear. Ainz tells all the guardians to prepare for the operation tomorrow.

When Ainz leaves, Cocytus thanks Demiurge for that suggestion. Demiurge state that he thinks it's what Ainz wanted from the beginning and that he was waiting for Cocytus to ask for the Lizardmen to be spared. All the guardians are awed by Ainz's foresight. Meanwhile, in his room, Ainz is stressing over how he didn't expect Cocytus to make such a request. He is, however, pleased at the guardians' capacity to learn and mature.

The next day, Zaryusu and Crusch awaken to see the sky darkening and realize that it is time to fight again.
