Summary[]

With no word from their scouts and the Quagoa fast approaching, having bypassed the magic item defense traps, the Commander-in-Chief orders the doors be closed immediately so as not to endanger the lives in Feo Jera. As the Dwarf soldiers enact, the defensive mages use lightning magic to keep the Quagoa at bay long enough to complete the shutting. As the Chief of Staff contemplates with the Commander about abandoning Feo Jera, a messenger arrives with word of an Undead at the surface entrance with intelligence on the Quagoa. Heading to the entrance, the messenger continues that the undead came with a party from Feo Raidho, having learned the Quagoa found a bypass around the Great Rift and came to warn the Dwarves. Outside the main door, Ainz Ooal Gown introduces himself and offers information gathered for a chance at establishing trade negotiations. As Ainz knows their situation by the Commander's presence, the Dwarf general states that he has to relay Ainz's offer for aid and trade to the Regency Council, yet lets him in after hearing his commentary on a dancing congress making no progress, and asks of the Sorcerer King to lend the Dwarves his aid.

Outside the sealed door to the Rift, Quagoa lieutenant Yozu comments on the Rift's supposed impregnability being countered and that the rare minerals of the Dwarves will soon be theirs. Sending a messenger back to their home, the sealed doors open before Yozu's squadron is immediately attacked by Death Knights, killing them with ease. As the undead make their way across the bridge, Yozu cuts the rope to kill some of his men with the Death Knights, who plummet to the Rift's deep floor. Back to where he was, Yozu believed the creatures to be Golems and ordered a retreat to report to Lord Pe Riyuro. Back in Feo Jera, the Commander has Ainz and his party situated in the reception room before the Regency Council receives them. When Ainz has a shout, the Commander asks if there was anything wrong, to which Ainz claims the outburst was for a personal matter and apologizes. Once the Commander leaves, Ainz informs Aura, Shalltear, and Zenberu Gugu that his two Death Knights were shockingly defeated, sending Ainz into a slight paranoia that a Player may have been responsible. Retrieved by the Chief of Staff, Ainz's party is brought before the Regency Council.

The Master of Caves and Mines asks if their reasons for coming were for trade as aforementioned, and Ainz clarifies that is the case as he seeks to trade foods. The Merchant's Guildmaster asks what the Sorcerer Kingdom's desired in trade, Ainz requested ores and Dwarven equipment, but the thankful Forgemaster states that the Council cannot deliver an immediate answer. Ainz understands and notes that Feo Jera is no longer safe, with the Commander agreeing as the Quagoa found a path around the Great Rift. To keep the Dwarf Kingdom from downfall, a problematic outcome, Ainz offers to retake their ancient capital of Feo Berkana, surprising the Brewmaster. As the Commander explains the eight Quagoa clans unified into a powerful force, the Director of Food Production comments on three danger zones between there and Feo Jera, and the High Priest of Earth informs Ainz there is a Frost Dragon nested there as well-- piquing Ainz's interest. The Forgemaster finds the enticing offer suspect, likely hiding ulterior motives, which Ainz confirms as his suspicions are warranted. Ainz first sought friendly relations with a people understanding trade, being the losing side which would be more grateful than the winning side. Secondly, Ainz tells the Council that he wants to invite the Runesmiths to his nation to supply him with magical equipment.

The Forgemaster imposes that Ainz may want slaves, but Ainz exhaustedly asks how he could enslave those of a friendly nation, then clarifies he wants the Runesmiths to forge items exclusively in his nation. Although the Merchant's Guildmaster tried negotiating exclusive first choice of crafted items, Ainz refused as that wouldn't be enough return investment and seeks to be the sole producer of Runecraft. When Ainz inquires when to expect a response, the Cabinet Secretary claims tomorrow at the latest but the Commander notes the Quagoa are upon them now and asks Ainz to wait in the reception room for an answer shortly. Ainz accepts and takes his leave with his party trio, leaving the Council for deliberation. Alone and after a moment of calm, each Councilman expresses genuine fear held back during the encounter, unwanting to trade with him out of pause and distrusting as he cannot drink. But the Commander reminds them of the Quagoan threat, and with Ainz being their only salvation, they agree to his terms and call him back later to tell him. Pleased, Ainz agrees to ready the forces to retake Feo Berkana, and the Master of Caves and Mines also informs him that they agreed to hand over all Runesmiths. Still, the Council will periodically send inspectors to check on their countrymen's well-being going forward, and Ainz holds no issue welcoming the investigators. Thinking about how labor standards often fail laborers, Ainz recalled how old world labor contracts were never honored, so he swore not to let anyone end up like Herohero, seeking fair contracts and balanced work. With everything in place, Ainz makes ready his next move.

In Feo Jera, Gondo Firebeard welcomes another Dwarven Runesmith, eager for the booze from the Sorcerer Kingdom, which Gondo explains will be delivered at the end of the meeting. Although the other Dwarf asks for a sip before the meeting, Gondo maintains there'll be some later as other Dwarves comment on his stinginess, and Gondo elaborates he has never imbibed and thus doesn't understand their love for the drink. After Gondo sighs from the routine rowdiness, Ainz enters and Shalltear calms the panicked crowd by holding a pitcher of fine ale aloft. Introducing himself and explaining his nation resides south of the Azerlisia Mountains by the Great Forest of Tob, Ainz makes straightforward his request to have the Runesmiths relocate to his kingdom to continue their Runecrafting practice. One Dwarf stands to ask why as Runecraft is in decline, so Ainz pulls out a YGGDRASIL magic sword from his inventory, etched with 20 runes. As they flock in mad fixation, Shalltear orders them to stop, and Ainz shows off his "silence" command pose well practiced. Ainz inquires if an item can have 20 runes etched, but a Dwarf explains that the most ever held was 6 runes, etched upon the last king's hammer 200 years ago at Runecraft's peak. Ainz understands and concludes his sword is likely a lost technology, explaining that it was made by some Runesmith long since departed. As the Runesmiths mourn such a person, Ainz explains he seeks to help them regain that lost knowledge and asks for their strength. All the Dwarves present then start voicing their wish to contribute to challenging themselves, and Ainz congratulates himself, being happy the meeting went his way.

Gondo goes to Ainz and asks if the Council gave him all the Runesmiths and weeps when Ainz confirms as much. Seeing Gondo cry over his leaders abandoning them, Ainz affirms that he will continue to support them, believing in their great potential. Telling Gondo they will leave to retake the ancient capital, Gondo volunteer's to be his guide come the next morning. Gondo explains he wished to repay Ainz and that there's a grand book of Runecrafting in the Capital Treasury. Although Ainz asks if he's helping in a robbery, Gondo clarifies that it isn't robbery for a nation abandoning the craft. Ainz hints that he may catch a case of random blindness when they come upon the royal treasury, with Gondo taking the hint and Ainz accepting him as guide. After the Commander orders the gates open, Shalltear is slightly impressed by the Death Knight's slaughter of Quagoa, and Ainz casts [Mass Fly] to carry the group over the corpses and across the Rift in short order. On the other side, Ainz sees the down bridge and wonders why they'd cut it if someone strong enough were fighting Death Knights. As Ainz starts to give Shalltear information on handling PVP, Aura finds indicators that the Quagoa cut the bridge, yet Ainz quiets her to continue his teaching. After his lesson, Ainz asks what Aura wanted to say, but she claims it was nothing-- believing Ainz already knew. Not knowing what she was going to say but moving on, the party follows Gondo's lead, so Ainz and company [Mass Fly] over a lava river and take safeguards against a poison gas labyrinth with [Breath of Titania]. Nearing the capital, Ainz orders Aura and Shalltear to kill any resisting Quagoa and spare any who submit. As Ainz claims the frost dragon for an opponent, he reflects on his travels with Ninya and how she was going to research the frost dragon upon returning to E-Rantel, finding the turn of fate unfortunate.
