"The Ruler of Conspiracy" (謀略の統治者 Bōryaku no Tōchisha) is the fourth episode of the Overlord IV adaptation. It was first broadcasted on July 26, 2022.

Summary[]

As the crowd cheer for the Martial Lord, Ainz Ooal Gown stands recalling his arrival to the Colosseum of the Baharuth Empire. When Albedo departed, Ainz pondered that Nazarick has yet to locate those who enthralled Shalltear Bloodfallen with a World Item. So to maintain the world domination plan of his NPCs and his own aim for a utopia, Ainz plans to advertise the positives of Adventurers under his employ by showcasing his abilities. Accompanied by Pluton Ainzach to Arwintar, the guildmaster notes that he didn't see a border checkpoint and Ainz's omition causes friction, but the Overlord states that his friendship with Emperor Jircniv Rune Farlord El-Nix will have forgiveness. However, Ainz was really afraid that his formal arrival would be met with political theater and his lack of formality would show, so he used the Gate spell to checkpoint into Arwitar. When Pluton humbly inquired into Ainz's plan, he explains simply that he aims to scout the Empire's Adventurer's Guild, but Pluton notes that none would so easily relent their lifelong earnings and Ainz's plan may not go so easily planned. The contemplating Ainz is delighted to have such criticism and asks pluton to continue voicing opinions just as he did henceforth. Harkoning back to their previous conversation, Pluton asks if Ainz's sponsoring Adventurers would extend to budding ones, and while Ainz affirms he wishes to create an institution to better train the newcomers. Impressed by his foresight, Pluton recommends training them from scratch by promoting the idea in the Colosseum as strength is admired and they are in the capital, so a demonstration is the fastest way to ensure Ainz's plan.

Informing Ainz of the Martial Lord, Pluton admits to knowing his fight promoter, a man named Osk, and the duo venture to meet him. Arriving at Osk's manor, Pluton sets a meeting appointment and the carriage takes off. Pluton inquires why Ainz did not simply state his name for an immediate audience, but Ainz states he felt lucky to set a meeting at all, with Pluton surprised by Ainz's seeming generosity. Thanking Pluton for his aid, Ainz tells him that he will teleport him back to E-Rantel and will retrieve him the next day for the meeting. Once Pluton was teleported, Ainz goes to Fluder Paradyne for the reports on neighboring nations, but the mage also discovered that Jircniv realized his betrayal and limited his access. Once Ainz acknowledges, he then hands Fluder his reward in the Book of the Dead item from YGGDRASIL. While eager, Fluder cannot read the text written inside so Ainz hands him his Magic Glasses to translate the read, as Ainz thinks inwardly that he gave Fluder the book as it was the more magical sounding item in his inventory. Fluder shouts in mad delight reading a passage which effectively proves he found the knowledge he has sought in life. While Ainz is awkwardly happy to help, he requests the Magic Glasses back as they are his only ones, gently coaxing them back by imparting "wisdom" that Fluder will ascend should he learn to translate, decipher, and understand the text. Fluder relents in understanding, returning the Magic Glasses and Ainz asks him for his knowledge about the Martial Lord.

The next morning, a retrieved Pluton is amazed to find a Rabbit Man maid considering how far East their homelands are. In the trophy room, Osk introduces himself and Ainz admires the collection, coming upon a sword with Runes transcribed onto it-- with Ainz pondering if a Player had granted the knowledge. Impressed at his recognition, Osk explains the sword is from a Dwarf Kingdom Rune workshop high within the Azerlisia Mountains, piquing Ainz's curiosity. Once seated, after Pluton asked Osk how he knew Ainz's true identity undermask, and Osk deduced so given E-Rantel's rule under the Sorcerer Kingdom and Pluton's behavior as though he were under a superior. When asking for visit purpose, Osk is taken aback that Ainz wished to fight the Martial Lord personally, but Ainz assures him there will be no problems to arise should the fight occur, promising with it in writing. Reluctant to consider, Osk explains that he must gather intel on potential opponents and asks Ainz if he indeed cast a spell killing tens of thousands. While Ainz confirms, he lies that the spell costs too much mana and can only be used once a decade. When Osk notes that such information is valuable, Ainz is content as he has other spells meanwhile. For his final question on why Ainz would want to fight the Martial Lord, Ainz was curious to see if he were stronger than Gazef Stronoff, so Osk decides to arrange the match. When Osk informs him that magic is prohibited in Colosseum matches, Pluton argues that Ainz is a magic caster but the overlord is not worried, swearing on the name of Ainz Ooal Gown to only use melee and weapons in combat.

Following their departure, Osk asks Headhunter Rabbit his appraisal of Ainz, with the rabbit man showing his normally scarred hands sweating beads from wanting to get away. Although called a pervert for staring, Osk compliments Headhunter's beauty but states his heart belongs to Gagaran of Blue Roses. Mentioning he may not renew his contract, Osk apologizes for the digression and Headhunter admits that Ainz was crazy-dangerous. Minutes before the present, the martial Lord thanks Osk for always keeping his word and giving him fights that have allowed him to grow stronger, before taking his weapon into the arena with. After formally, Ainz mentions a past encounter with a War Troll to Go Gin, who understands but states he'd never insult a strong opponent, making Ainz reevaluate his preconceptions. As Go Gin acknowledges different mindset among all races, Ainz likes him and asks for his loyalty should he win. Go Gin agrees and antes to eating Ainz should he win, to grow stronger, and Ainz agrees. Once the two shake, the match starts and Ainz fleetfully moves to Go Gin, staff striking down the war club and using a fire attack to make an opening for a flanking strike. Go Gin counters with a back strike to send Ainz flying, while Ainz also feels miffed at Jircniv's shouts for Go Gin and not for an "ally". Ainz informs Go Gin that he can inflict Negative Energy on contact, reducing strength and agility, and switched from a staff to the Stiletto Blades he borrowed from Momon.

Piercing through Go Gin's armor and counters, Ainz notes the crowd not cheering him on, and gives him a final chance for surrender while asking if he had a skill to turn the odds. While claiming no, Go Gin aims to fight still and Ainz obliges his determination, but Ainz's attempt at [Aura of Despair Lvl 1] is countered by Go Gin's use of Martial Arts that send him flying; thinking how Punitto Moe would scold him for falling for a simple deception like that. Annoyed by Jircniv's rants, Ainz holsters two stilettos to equip the third and takes hits to deal negative energy, elaborating that the major difference between them is that Ainz is Lvl 100. Removing his torso armor, Go Gin asks if he is so weak that Ainz still hasn't used his full strength. Ainz admits that, while Go Gin is the strongest in the Empire, he is likely the strongest in the world comparatively. Accepting this, Go Gin is still excited to know there is someone stronger than him, and Ainz reciprocates the feelings in recollection of Touch Me. At Go Gin's request before defeat, Ainz reactivates his [High Tiered Physical Nullification] skill, walking to Go Gin unimpeded by his attack barrages and kills him with his third stilleto. While the crowd gasps, Ainz holsters his third stilleto to use an announcement magic item to elaborate his plan to nurture adventurers for exploratory quests. Demonstrating his strength, he wishes not to spread war but wants real adventurers to seek the unknown, inviting those likeminded. Promising support for those who agree, Ainz revives Go Gin to show his willingness to resurrect fallen adventurers, all to ensure their growth.

Concluding with an open invitation, Ainz uses [Fly] to visit Jircniv in the VIP booth, who congratulates him for his victory though Ainz claims luck was just on his side; a worrying phrase to Jircniv. As Ainz takes his leave, a broken Jircniv shockingly begs for Baharuth to become a vassal state. Having no clue what a vassal state even means, Ainz asks that Jircniv submit the petition in writing as it is a matter not suited for verbal discussion and asks Jircniv request what he'd like for the Empire's standing as a vassal state. Once Ainz departs, Jircniv explains to Nimble that Ainz has superior cunning to his own and all his plans were foiled, so vassalage is the only means to ensure the Empire's survival. Since Ainz shouldn't have any reason to refuse, Jircniv notes Ainz's refusal for vassalage likely opposed his original plans, possibly some terrible experiment on the Empire or related to the adventurer recruitment just now. When Baziwood suggests Ainz wasn't really thinking, Jircniv angrily refutes that, but as there are many kinds of vassal states, Jircniv will do everything he can to retain whatever autonomy he can for their nation. As Nimble asks of Jircniv's safety, the emperor cannot say but will try to show he's worth more alive to run the empire. But who knows, as Jircniv feels like the most unfortunate man alive right now.
