Successor Development Plan (御世継ぎ育成計画) is the ninety-second chapter of the Overlord: The Undead Oh! series

Summary[]

Nigredo is seen instructing Cocytus and Albedo on childcare, warning that foods like honey while very sweet and delicious should never be given to babies under one year old. The reason being there is a risk of infant botulism caused by clostridium botulinum. While they are surprised that some things for adults are harmful to children, Cocytus finds that this is effective for the heir of Nazarick. Although Albedo points out undead don't sick. Their banter annoys Nigredo, who thinks they are not seriously listening to her.

But Albedo tells her older sister that she is, and is truly grateful for the knowledge she gained from Nigredo's teachings on how to take care of a baby. That being said she just judging that Nigredo's advice won't probably won't work for the heir. Cocytus adds that being a heir of Ainz will probably make them strong. Besides a weakness can be covered by having the heir equipped with some equipment like a ring for resistance to an enemy. But Nigredo is against giving children rings as they could be at risk of swallowing them. Though the Floor Guardians point out that there is no risk of choking since the heir will be a skeleton, and the bones will have gaps.

Even so, Nigredo states that the equipment may be removed immediately, but there is accidental ingestion of toxic material, which she will exclude from explanation. And what's important is a strong baby's body. Also, if someone accidentally swallows something and chokes, they need to be given first aid. And gives instruction on proper techniques to burp a baby such as chest thrusts and back slaps. But considering the possibility that physical attack resistance inherited from Ainz which may be useless, Albedo can already see how its can invalid first aid.

Cocytus reminds Nigredo that undead don't need oxygen so they can't suffocate. Finally Nigredo realizes her information on caring for babies might only apply to fragile living beings. Now she wonders if any of it will be useful or just fuel anxiety. Albedo even so finds it all helpful. It's also okay to worry too much, because of the importance of a heir to Ainz, so they need to be mentally prepared and ready to ensure the heir's safety. Especially for the mother (Albedo) and grandfather (Cocytus) who are always busy taking care of them. Seeing their eagerness, NIgredo asks if she can help take care of their heir until they are two years old.

Nigredo then wonders if the heir has resistance to physical attack, can danger from falling over be excluded? Albedo too wonders that as well. Thinking about it the Overseer Guardian notes that there should be vulnerability to damage from blows. If the heir falls and hits a corner of a piece of furniture, it will be treated as a blow and may hurt. To prepare for that, Nigredo suggests that they put corner guards on the furniture. Cocytus thinks he should take precautions as well due to his pointed body, and even considers using cloth and cotton to cover it.

Nigredo raises the possibility of the heir injuring themselves from falling out a window. But since Nazarick is underground she wonders if it is a concern as there aren't any windows. Then again Nigredo thinks that the threat is nullified if the heir uses [Fly] to levitate. Assuming that the heir has the ability to cast [Fly] then the conversation shifts to a plan on how to teach the heir how to say [Fly]. Albedo is peeved that the first word of her potential child with Ainz will not be "Mama" but "Fly." Cocytus on the other hand is eager for his own chance, Nigredo seeing her sister's disappointment muses that the plan all comes down to pride.

Though now Albedo thinks it would be dangerous for a baby to fly freely. To which Cocytus responds that it is scary to think that they can't judge whether something is definitely dangerous or not. Another thing Albedo worries about is that the heir might go to the 7th Floor, since the undead takes double the amount of fire damage. Not only that Cocytus expands that the 7th Floor inflicts continuous damage from fire and that the future heir could be endangered if they fall into the River of Lava. To amend this, Albedo suggests that they could cool the lava so it solidifies, and be kept that way until the heir grows up. To which Cocytus volunteers to take care of the 7th Floor.

Nigredo then questions the assumption that the heir, who is undead, will be born small and gradually grow like a living person, which it is an impossibility. So she wonders if the heir would be born with the appearance of an adult like Ainz and not grow up. This results in Albedo in commenting that they need to carefully considered the matter. Due to a result of their dreams, all three have adopted a theory that all babies are born small and grow gradually. Nigredo now can see that their reasoning was a bit hasty. This seriously disappoints Albedo and Cocytus as they wanted to experience helping the heir wear children's clothes or parade them around their shoulders.

Although assuming Albedo is the mother of the heir, Nigredo thinks it's possible that the heir could be a half demon and half undead creature that could grow naturally. That said Albedo blushes as there's so much she wants to do when she becomes a mother. She imagines herself taking a leisurely stroll with the baby on a bicorn. Nigredo replies that having a child would allow Albedo to finally mount a bicorn, though a child would not as a High Bicorn would refuse the an innocent baby due to its nature. This angers Albedo, commenting bicorns have some really troublesome fetishes.

The three NPCs then sit down, with Nigredo raising another question, like how many children would Albedo want. The Overseer Guardian doesn't want too many, only wanting as many as the number of floors of Nazarick, That numbers to be ten which Nigredo thinks is a lot. But thinks its should be okay if she can produce a baby every two years, and expresses that she would be happy to support then and be able to enjoy raising fresh newborn babies for twenty years. Cocytus appears to find the idea appealing.

Albedo can see the benefits of many more children as siblings give them someone to play with. On that note Nigredo thinks it would be best if half were girls and half were boys. The older sister is left admiring Albedo, as if it were a royal family, they would use a princess for a political marriage, but the Sorcerer Kingdom has no need for such tricks. In fact, to demonstrate the overwhelming power of the Sorcerer Kingdom, it would be better to have many princes who look exactly like the Sorcerer King. Back to the gender of the children, Albedo thinks having more girls would be great because they can wear cute girls. And even envision making the girls light blue dresses to match the body color of the old man, Cocytus, who they always cling to, a thought the 5th Floor Guardian adores to. The multiple heirs being girls wouldn't be an issue to Nigredo to project an overwhelming image of the Sorcerer Kingdom, as being undead regardless of gender is intimidating enough.

Albedo then snaps Nigredo out of her daydreaming to tell her the plan. This time Albedo has set up an opportunity to fully discuss the story of succession, so she wanted to get Cocytus on her side, as she is looking forward to a full-scale battle for the title of main queen. Cocyus declares e doesn't care who becomes the consort to Ainz, so long as he can be a grandfather to his master's children. Nigredo listening this, muses Cocytus doesn't really understand how important the issue of queen consort is.

Now Albedo wants to talk with Cocytus to discuss the future they are aiming for, and hopes her older sister Nigredo will think the same. Both Nigredo and Cocytus are committed. Albedo is glad as the day will soon come when even friendly successors will fight against each other in the future. On the thought of a succession battle, Nigredo sees it to be a sad future with siblings fighting over the throne to be the next Sorcerer King and potential destroy each other. Albedo doesn't seem to worry as sibling quarrels while a real worry are just a laugh, and Cocytus sees it as another form of play or competition. However the Area Guardian of the 5th Floor can see that the two's scale of concern was smaller than expected.

Cocytus is then seen busy talking to delusions of the heirs. Moving forward, Albedo acknowledges that there needs to be patience, however she expresses worry that she might make her older child endure too much, and they will rebel a lot, even though she is okay with letting them be spoiled when they want to be pampered. At the mention of rebellion, Nigredo worries that if the heir acquires power comparable to Ainz, there is a danger that those who try to take the throne will use force to dethrone the Sorcerer King. Though to Cocytus, rebellion translates to a rebellious of being a disrespectful teen.

To Albedo it seems that it will be tough for a child to have a great father like Ainz, and thus she worries about the pressure of having a great future will turn them into a delinquent. Cocytus tells her not worry as he will give the heir a talk on not to get involved in any harmful effect on their body. Such as underage drinking and smoking. But realizes those issues don't apply to the undead. Then he thinks about another delinquency to be concerned about such as running away from home. And so he continues to act out these delusions, meshing reality and fantasy.

Albedo has a countermeasure for such delinquencies such as her sister Nigredo who specializes in investigation, so she would be able to find her child no matter where they are. This surprises Nigredo, and when Albedo tries to invite her to join in the shared delusion of her and Cocytus' fantasy, Nigredo tries to get Albedo to restrain her imagination. But it's too late, Albedo is already fantasizing her child being missing and thinking they are in the Katze Plains, and Nigredo is left dumbstruck as she can't seriously think her sister actually wants her to use magic to find her imaginary child. Seeing no recourse, Nigredo plays along acting out of casting her surveillance magic of [Crystal Monitor]. More outrageous fantasies are drawn up by Cocytus of the heir going on a joy ride on a Soul Eater. To Albedo imagining the heir leading a calvary of Skeleton Riders and becoming a biker gang. In the end Cocytus fantasizes that the heir returns home, and he expresses how happy he is and wishes to have them fight one on one.

Nigredo soon watches with stunned silence as Albedo and Cocytus role play the match, taking their shared delusion to new heights. Then Cocytus fantasizes the heir getting injured, losing his weapon, which causes Cocytus to call it a day, and imagines walking with the heir, arm over arm with each other and return home together. Both Albedo and Nigredo cheer at the fantasy.

At the end of the fantasy, Nigredo calls it to be good story. Cocytus found the experience to be enjoyable with Albedo complimenting Cocytus for being such a good grandfather. If Albedo becomes the official wife, Albedo trusts Cocytus to take good care of her child. However when Cocytus mentions that if Shalltear Bloodfallen becomes queen and promises to treat Albedo's child with love as well. To him he will care for them equally regardless of the status of the mother. This causes Nigredo to admire Cocytus as though he acts a little weird, when he goes into grandpa mode, Cocytus is a good parent to children.
