Go, Doppel Pleiades! (がんばれドッペルプレアデス) is the eighty-ninth chapter of the Overlord: The Undead Oh! series
Summary[]
In the Throne Room, Albedo convenes a meeting to discuss an upcoming mission. The group she addresses will be operating in place of the real Pleiades. Standing before her are what seem to be the battle maids themselves—but in truth, they are the Doppel Pleiades, doppelgängers who have taken on the forms of the originals.
The doppelgängers of Yuri and Lupusregina respond promptly to Albedo’s commands. However, she quickly points out that their behavior isn't quite right. She notes that Doppel-Yuri is doing reasonably well, portraying the serious and disciplined nature of the real Yuri Alpha. In contrast, the doppelganger imitating Lupusregina fails to embody her character, coming across as stiff and lacking the maid’s usual playful energy.
Despite this, Albedo decides that it’s acceptable for now, as long as the doppelgänger can fight convincingly in Lupusregina’s place. The issue, however, is that Doppel-Lupusregina cannot do that. As a Greater Doppelgänger, she is compelled to perfectly replicate not just the appearance, but also the personality of the form she’s assumed. Her rigid and overly literal approach makes her portrayal feel unnatural. Observing this, Albedo comments that her personality is entirely different from the original Lupusregina.
The other doppelgängers express a similar desire to completely replicate their assigned Pleiades. Albedo, impressed by their determination, encourages them to go further—not just to mimic, but to strive toward becoming true Pleiades in spirit.
As part of their training, each doppelgänger is assigned to shadow the original they’re imitating. Doppel-Lupusregina vows to fully understand and emulate the personality of her template—the cheerful, eccentric maid known for her obsession with fried golden potato slices.
When the real Pleiades arrive, the doppelgängers formally greet their counterparts. As they interact, Doppel-Lupusregina requests permission to imitate her original's voice. Lupusregina allows it, but when she hears the imitation, she notes that it’s slightly off. Regardless, training proceeds to the next stage.
The maids begin instructing their doppelgängers on how to properly use Pleiades equipment and abilities. While the doppelgängers can duplicate the look of the gear, they can't replicate its performance. Therefore, the originals lend their actual equipment for training. Lupusregina jokes about how this effectively means they’re being stripped, prompting her double to ask her not to exaggerate. The real Lupusregina continues teasing, pretending to be the doppelgänger to her junior’s growing discomfort.
Yuri Alpha then announces that group combat training will begin the next day. Doppel-Lupusregina approaches her original and asks how she’s supposed to fight. Lupusregina, being a healer, tells her that for the upcoming team battle—against the mighty Ainz—the focus should be on healing and buffing the others. The advice leaves the doppelganger confused, but Lupusregina assures her that there will be more to learn during tomorrow’s session. She also reminds her to be cautious, as healers are often targeted first.
The two then discuss names. Doppel-Lupusregina assumes she should simply be called Lupusregina, since she’s taken on that form. However, the original finds it unsettling to hear someone else using her name. She suggests the nickname Docchan instead. The response is unenthusiastic, but Lupusregina reassures her. She explains that her own sisters call her Lupu, and that casual nicknames are a sign of closeness. She goes on to mention the nicknames she’s given her sisters: Yuri-nee for Yuri, Zu-chan for Entoma, and Na-chan for Narberal.
To help Docchan further understand her personality, Lupusregina shows her a list of names she’s given to various villagers and friends. Then, she decides to take Docchan on a visit to Carne Village, a place she personally protects. Docchan is intrigued and wants to observe how Lupusregina interacts with the people there.
Before departing, Lupusregina warns against using the Frost Dragon postal service, explaining that it would draw too much attention. If they arrive that way, Enri’s subordinates might surround them on high alert. This worries Docchan—it sounds like Lupusregina is being treated with suspicion by the very people she’s supposed to protect.
That night, invisible and flying above Carne Village, the two observe the peaceful life below. Docchan comments that the village seems a bit too large to be called a village at all. Lupusregina explains that Enri commands a force of 5,000 goblins, including a Goblin Weather Forecaster whose predictions are almost always accurate. The doppelgänger is impressed until Lupusregina admits that when the forecasts are wrong, the forecaster simply uses magic to change the weather and insists they were right all along—even when confronted by the Goblin Magic Bombardment Squad.
The pair quietly slip into the village. While goblins stand guard, the human villagers are all fast asleep. Lupusregina points out the home where Enri and Nfirea—newlyweds and key figures in the village—reside. She suggests pulling a prank to wake them up, but Docchan firmly objects, saying it’s inappropriate to sneak into a couple’s bedroom.
Lupusregina, unfazed, insists it would be fun and claims others in Nazarick would be entertained by it. Docchan is horrified, explaining that doppelgangers are not meant for such things. Their role is to blend into society, and violating privacy like that could ruin vital trust. Lupusregina argues that experiencing such antics firsthand would help Docchan better understand her character, but Docchan refuses. She can’t risk damaging relations just for a laugh.
Still, Docchan hesitates—part of her wants to understand her mentor better. She nearly acts on impulse, but before she can, Enri steps outside. Startled, Docchan panics. Lupusregina reveals she knew Enri’s schedule all along and was merely teasing her.
Morning comes. The goblins greet Enri, and Lupusregina reveals herself, surprising the chief. Docchan remains invisible, closely observing their interaction. She senses a quiet tension among the Redcaps, Enri’s goblin bodyguards. Using her powers, she reads their surface thoughts. They’re cautious, worried that Lupusregina could suddenly turn dangerous. These concerns make sense—it's their duty to protect Enri. From Enri herself, however, Docchan picks up something completely different: she’s bracing for one of Lupusregina’s signature dirty jokes. The contrast leaves Docchan stunned.
Enri goes on to mention that the dwarves were thrilled with the alcohol Lupusregina gave them as a reward. They said they’d gladly accept more sudden requests if it meant more of that brew. Lupusregina laughs and says she’ll visit them again soon. Docchan, still trailing invisibly, begins to admire how her unpredictable mentor has built such strong relationships with the villagers.
Later, recalling the dwarves’ gratitude, Lupusregina asks Docchan what she would request the dwarves to make. She explains that the dwarves often build things on request, only for those creations to be destroyed shortly after. She finds humor in how repetitive and pointless it can seem. Docchan, unsure if she’s serious, silently hopes it’s just a joke.
The two continue flying together, still cloaked by invisibility. Docchan reflects on the village, finding it a beautiful place with great potential for potion development. She hopes its peaceful life can continue. But then Lupusregina casually remarks that she hopes everyone in the village perishes. When Docchan expresses disbelief, she adds that burning villages down is the proper way to deal with them. Shocked, Docchan realizes that despite everything, she still doesn’t understand Lupusregina at all.
The next day, Doppel-Yuri checks in with the others to share experiences from shadowing their originals. She had the honor of sparring with Yuri and receiving direct training. Doppel-Entoma learned how to care for insects and even visited Kyouhukou’s lair—an experience she admits was traumatic. Doppel-CZ had helped the real CZ chase down Éclair. Compared to those stories, Docchan concludes that her time with Lupusregina wasn’t so bad—at least, relatively speaking.
Finally, the day of the mission arrives. The doppelgängers deploy in their Pleiades forms. Ainz Ooal Gown, unaware of the substitution, observes Doppel-Lupusregina and notes that something about her voice seems off. Internally, the doppelganger despairs, realizing she failed to perfectly mimic her template. In hindsight, she realizes the original never warned her about being extra careful around Ainz.
