Narberal VS Nazarikku (ナーベラルVS ナザリッ句) is the seventy-eighth chapter of the Overlord: The Undead Oh! series.
Summary[]
In a tent, taking place at the time of the Workers Invasion, Ainz Ooal Gown as Momon orders Nabe that as per their client's instructions they will wait in the tent until called for. In the mean time he tells the Pleiades to spend her time freely.
Though Nabe complies, Momon worries as even if he tells her to have some free time, most likely she will just sit down and stare off into space. While he doesn't mind it being a hobby, he feels he needs to intrude, so he asks what kind of hobbies she has. Nabe responds that she has lately started enjoying haiku. Momon recalls that a haiku is a poem of seventeen syllables, in three lines of five, seven, and five.
Cocytus was the one who introduced her to the art, being influenced by his creator Warrior Takemikazuchi as the Supreme Being used to compose "death poems" for four years. Nabe even has some verse of Warrior haikus from a small notebook. This comes as a surprise to Momon as he never though his old friend had compose such poems while gaming. Though the haiku Narberal provides him sounds like a lamentation of Warrior Takemikazuchi losing his budget to gacha and composing it before going to sleep.
Nabe claims to be working on her own haiku. Momon satisfied that Nabe at least keeps her mind occupied then departs. A though soon occurs in Nabe's mind on the proper usage of season words or kigo in haikus by the departing adventurer.
Some time later, she gets her answer from Cocytus back in Nazarick explaining that they are words or phrases that imply or symbolize the season. Adding that if one uses kigo then even if it has seventeen syllables it will be treated as senryu. Cocytus has her try reciting a haiku, which Narberal does so describing Ainz's words of wisdom. But she is told by Cocytus she overdid it past the seventeen word limit. They work on shortening the verses, although Narberal complains at the limits of being unable to truly express her admiration to Ainz. Cocytus adds that there are some restrictions when composing haikus in Nazarick.
Narberal she is shocked that there are others who made their own haikus, with some containing profane verses, by Shalltear Bloodfallen. Apparently it was so bad that Shalltear's peers pressure Shalltear to cease at a haiku meeting. At the meeting members compose titles of their own haikus, causing Narberal to lament that she has to be very careful not to overlap with their original title and works. To help her, Cocytus invites her to one of the haiku meetings.
WHile walking through the corridors to the meeting, Narberal expressing her wish to compose a haiku with an autumn theme. To which Cocytus suggests reciting a poem about the fall cleaning of Nazarick and its crystal clean hallways. Narberal tries but her haiku gives merely exact measurements of the area using Ainz's measurements. Needing a better example, Narberal asks Cocytus to provide one. Which he does reciting a beautiful verse on Ainz's possible heir.
Narberal finds the verses to be heart-warming, however because it's just a fantasy, she feels somewhat unrealistic and sadness from the poet in the style of emo. After talking and comparing various example of emo haiku verse, they arrive at the Haiku Meeting where Narberal is inducted.
Yuri acting as the master of ceremonies then proceeds to state today's activity of the meeting, which is to have each person has a copy of a haiku of another person and transcribe it. Albedo who is transcribing her notices the handwriting and content on Ainz's heir identifies it to be Cocytus.
They come across a haiku made by Narberal which describe Momon stroking Hamsuke's fur, which the group is moved at such a hobby of their lord. For her contribution, Narberal is awarded a excellence award. Narberal thanks Cocytus for his support and they show their bond with their signature handshake.
