The Ultimate Planetarium (至高のプラネタリウム) is the seventy-seventh chapter of the Overlord: The Undead Oh! series.
Summary[]
The chapter takes place during the guild days of Ainz Ooal Gown. At the Amphitheater, Blue Planet hosts a planetarium show, addresses his guildmates via a microphone whilst they are all lounging on lawn chairs, viewing the artificial sky of the 6th Floor. After Yamaiko and Bukubukuchagama confirm that they can hear his voice, the latter teasing that Blue Planet has a bass voice, some players like Ulbert and Momonga are excited as it is there first time at a planetarium. Though Peroroncino feels the experience to be dull has he has been to one many times. But Ulbert correctly assumes it to be inside an erotic game, which Peroroncino claims that people go there on dates in real-life, which to Momonga thinks is majestically sad for Peroroncino to know.
On the microphone, Blue Planet announces that this gathering is to test out the video projection of the night sky of the 6th Floor. To make things interesting on celestial bodies for the planetarium, he made a Ainz Ooal Gown Special Edition presentation. When Blue Planet mentions the presentation as a supported screening, it earns some humor from Nishikienrai, with Warrior Takemikazuchi thinking Blue Planet is just praising himself and wonders if there will be a sequel.
Blue Planet continues with his announcements, stating that if they really found the show interesting he suggests that they go and see the real sky. Although Yamaiko thinks once they seen the screening, the real thing will be disappointing. Luci★Fer calls out "Good Luck!" to Blue Planet in his screening review, causing Ulbert to comments that at a real planeterium there would definitely be better customers than what was present.
The host asks his friends to enjoy the night sky and starts the show. As various featured celestial objects appear in the sky, Blue Planet gives an introduction that before the air was polluted as it is now in the world, there was a time when it wasn't covered in smog. In fact the real world night sky was had beautiful with shining stars visible. Among the celestial bodies that were an exception sight was the moon.
At this time Blue Planet opens a Celestial Quiz. This causes Amanomahitotsu to panic but Touch Me thinks it a way to keep them from getting bored. Blue Planet informs his friends that all around the world, the dark and bumpy surface of the moon has been seen around the world by many and there are various interpretations of the patterns. Yamaiko knows this stating that the image on the moon resembles a rabbit pounding mochi. Blue Planet confirms that to be correct, as that interpretation is the most famous one from Japan. However he also adds that other countries consider the image on the moon to be that of a crab, due to the parts seeming scissor-like. Some guild members joke that the image actually looks like Amanomahitotsu's game avatar much to his displeasure.
The start show continues with Blue Planet explaining that people looking up at the night sky did not only see patterns on the surface of the moon, but used their imaginations on the stars, thus beginning his talk on constellations. Another Celestial Quiz is opened, with Blue Planet asking what the constellation in the sky currently is. Peroroncino seeing it calls out that it resembles and ostrich, but he is incorrect and the answer is the constellation Leo. Peroroncinos bewildered as how the constellation in any way resembles a lion, though Blue Planet tells him that is the fault of the ancient people. Nishikienrai laughs musing that the ancient people must have had wild imaginations, which Blue Planet clarifies that the history of Leo is about 5000 years old. And of the people back then used their imagination to discover what wasn't there. In other words the arrangement of the stars and the constellations are derivative works by the past. This is what Peroroncino calls as a free interpretation, shocking Momonga of how well the birdman is paying attention.
The presentation goes on to say that many stories about the constellations are related to Greek mythology. Such as Hercules, who was named after a constellation and a hero who slayed a man-eating lion. There is some confusion over the name of the hero, with Herohero is thinking it was Heracles while Luci★Fer maintains its Hercules. An explanation is given through Celestial Trivia, in that when written in Greek, the name is pronounced "Heracles" for the constellation, but since its scientific name is in Latin, the constellation's name is "Hercules". Similar to the constellation of "Pegasos" which is officially "Pegasus".
More information is provided on Hercules, who is regarded as the strongest hero in Greek mythology. To elaborate, he uses an image of Touch Me to portray Hercules in the video projection in the sky which the player recognizes was when Blue Planet had asked him to take picture of him. The video continues portraying Touch Me of how Hercules was born from an affair by Zeus, the chief of the gods, which angered his wife Hera. Hera was the goddess who turned the man-eating lion that Hercules killed into the constellation of Leo, as an honor to the good fight it put against Hercules. The hardship by the lion is well received by Ulbert who praises its effort.
In another myth, regarding Hera, the name of the Milky Way originated from Greek mythology as well. When Hercules was just a baby, Zeus ordered Hermes to bring Hercules to a sleeping Hera so that he could drink her milk. Hera awoke from her slumber from the young demigod in suckling her breast, and knocked Hercules, causing him to spew out the milk, creating the Milky Way. The story causes Ulbert to pity Hera, and even Bukubukuchagama chides Touch Me, even though the other player states that he's not Hercules.
More stories of constellations are discussed in the video, the next beings Hydra, Cancer and Draco, who represented monsters that like Leo were slayed by Hercules in that order. Hydra is a poisonous monster with nine necks, while Cancer is a crab that was there when the former was slayed by Hercules and later crushed underfoot by the hero. And then there is Draco, a dragon that guarded a tree that bore golden apples. At this point in the presentation Amanomahitotsu makes a complaint of appearing twice as a character in the story.
Going back to the video presentation, Blue Planet explains the relationship between Hydra and Cancer, stating that the two monsters knew each other and lived together in the same swamp. Cancer upon seeing his friend be killed by Hercules tried to help Hydra but was not match for the Greek hero. The depiction of Touch Me playing the role of Hercules stomping Amanomahitotsu as Cancer through many negatives opinions towards Touch Me due to his face being associated with Hercules.
Another victim of Hercules is Sagittarius, who was actually Chiron, the centaur mentor of the hero. During a battle with a herd of centaurs, an arrow coated with Hydra's deadly poison had hit Chiron. The poison was so painful the centaur gave up his immortality just to die. In a commentary by Blue Planet, he ranks the deaths of Leo, Cancer and Sagittarius as the top deaths even within the zodiac representations which Hercules killed leading to each becoming a constellation, which the guild members find to be brutal.
Blue Planet starts a new Celestial Quiz, and puts up a new constellation, asking if they can identify it. Amanomahitotsu and Touch Me vaguely find it familiar, and Nishikienrai thinks it resembles Bukubukuchagama when she tries to be threatening. Blue Planet reveals that it is the constellation of Orion, which he uses Luci★Fer image as a reference, and the player recognizes that his image of making a fist pump is used.
Further into Orion, Blue Planet adds that Orion is associated with another constellation, Scorpio. Unlike in the case with Hercules who defeated the representations of the other constellations, Scorpio is credited with defeating Orion who was a hunter with its poisonous stinger. After his defeat Orion was made into a constellation. Though he was strong Orion got carried away by boasting that he could defeat any animal which angered the Earth goddess Gaia who sent Scorpio in retaliation.
From a gamer’s perspective, Bukubukuchagama found Orion’s fate to be laughable as the Hunter was no tank, and seemed I only earn hate. Momonga though feels Hercules could be classified as a tank, though Touch Me felt that his DPS appeared too high and was more akin to a fighter.
Another series of celestial bodies related to Orion that should be familiar, relates to the NPCs of Nazarick, the Pleiades star cluster which the Pleiades bath Lem maids are named after, taking their origin from the Greek myth of the Seven Sisters who are handmaidens to the Greek goddess Artemis. The Seven Sisters were unilaterally loved and pursued by Orion. The maiden kept running from the Hunter until they were turned into a constellation. This leaves the impression that Orion was a horrible person, not help as he was portrayed by Luci★Fer.
The presentation ends, with Blue Planet asking his friend on what they thought of his production. Bukubukuchagama replies that she was distracted by the starry sky of the presentation, while Luci★Fer found the whole thing to have too many running jokes, but was funny nonetheless. Over the loudspeaker, Blue Planet states that in the future he intends to put more effort in the artificial sky of the 6th Floor, so he asks that if they have any recommendations on what they would like to see, they come to him.
On that note, Yamaiko makes a request in seeing an aurora. Such a phenomenon already exists in Nazarick, according to Blue Planet, as it can be seen on rare occasions on the 5th Floor. After all the floor is an image of the Antarctic and Arctic, if they do it on the 6th Floor it's going to cost a lot of funds as its big so the 5th Floor is the best place for an aurora. Blue Planet then goes on to explain why the aurora is only observed at the North Pole of Earth. It's not due to the frigid cold but because the plasma is drawn there by solar wind because of the magnetic field along with large atmospheric components. The information is getting over technical to Bukubukuchagama dismay, though Peroroncino noting Blue Planet is an otaku just like them in a sense.
Blue Planet eventually stops his lecture, thanking his friends for letting him rent the space for his presentation and letting him freely create the night sky of the 6th Floor with their help. But laments that the state of the real world's pollution has robbed them from the real thing, which they can no longer have or take back. Suffice to say Warrior Takemikazuchi believes that the substitute, being YGGDRASIL's are still beautiful. Momonga honestly thinks that the only place in the game with a comparable worst scenery as the real world would be Helheim, with Peroroncino admitting that the place is suitable for heteromorphs. Luci★Fer comments if someone was new to the nature of YGGDRASIL, then playing as a human or demi-human would be better. Blue Planet somewhat agrees, but the angel is berated for saying such sacrilegious words by Bukubukuchagama.
To finally end the planetarium show, Blue Planet tells his friends to enjoy his last feature, a meteor shower, offering to make as many wishes as they can. As the many guild members began making wishes from salary increases and passing auditions, Ulbert recalls that the final boss in Nazarick used a similar meteor technique to Momonga. Ulbert admits he never thought he would see the sight again of when they first claimed Nazarick, finding the meteor shower wonderful, which Momonga also agrees happy that they were able to complete the game. That being said, Ulbert makes his wish...which is that the World Champion be nerfed and weakened, which annoys Touch Me.
Momonga in the present, now as Momon. reflects on that time when Blue Planet create that planetarium show. In the end the undead player never went to see a real planetarium. But now in the New World, he can see the real sky just as Blue Planet envisioned.
His mount, Hamsuke noticing his master staring longingly at the night sky asks if everything is alright, wondering if he is recalling some memory while watching the stars. The adventurer admits that he is, good memories at that.
Momon also remembers embarrassingly of when he first saw the stars after the transfer of the Great Tomb of Nazarick, mentioning to Demiurge in his imp form of how he thought conquering the world would be fun. He tells Hamsuke that he was having good memories and bitter memories of his mistakes, which clenches his heart. The hamster not understanding Momon's conflicting emotions, cheery eyed praises for having a long life.
