Becoming an Old Man to Beat Sebas (セバスに負けない爺になれ) is the sixty-first chapter of the Overlord: The Undead Oh! series.

Summary[]

Cocytus and Demiurge are relaxing in the former's dwelling over drinks. Cocytus mutters that there is a clear difference in ability for someone. The statement piques Demiurge interest on who the other Floor Guardian is referring to. From Cocytus' musing the insect while envious still is relieved that the said person is an ally. He is of course talking about Sebas Tian and his envy of how he is so much more suitable to be a grandfather to Ainz Ooal Gown's future heir as the butler looks grandfatherly.

Demiurge raises a question on what are the qualifications of being a grandfather beside appearance? The two then go on a discourse on the proper definition of "grandfather" which they define as a friendly word for an old man. So far Sebas Tian does fit the criteria, though he is not sure if they can be considered a grandfather to Ainz's child as all the NPCs are subordinates to Ainz. Though Cocytus thinks they can act as surrogates. Demiurge thinks Sebas Tian might be more suited as a grandfather, given his own relationship with Tuare might bear fruit of child one day. If he and Tuare have a child then the answer is obvious on who Ainz would choose to care for his child. Furthermore if the Ainz's heir interacts with Sebas Tian's future child, they might produce a possible new generation which in the end will make Sebas Tian an actual grandfather.

This troubles Cocytus at the idea, though he weighs in how he can match up to Sebas Tian's possibly future closeness with Ainz's child. Demiurge comforts Cocytus stating that the insect has more advantages over Sebas Tian than he thinks. One in that Cocytus is a Floor Guardian of the 5th Floor. A relatively safe location to train the heir which Cocytus can take advantage of. The demon admits darkly that the 7th Floor could also be comfortable for family time.

To help them with this issue, Demiurge invited Mare Bello Fiore for his opinion as a child. Mare is happy to provide his input though confesses that the topic on Ainz's heir is a sensitive one as even Aura Bella Fiora annoying as she needs to intervene between Albedo and Shalltear Bloodfallen bickering over the matter.

That aside, Demiurge has Mare participate in various activities that a child would enjoy on the snowy terrain of the 5th Floor: skiing, snowboarding, snowball fighting, ice skating, etc. However the dark elf fails miserably in all of them. Despite the bumbling of Mare, Demiurge thinks its a good experience for Cocytus in preparation to teaching a child. And Cocytus comes to understand that it taking care of a child is a work in progress in improvement which motivates him even more.

While he and Mare are building a snowman, Cocytus inquires what else would children like about the 5th Floor. Mare and Demiurge give him the answer as shaved ice. Though Demiurge recalls if the heir is undead then they would not be able to eat. Though a pool of preserved frozen corpses would be perhaps be substituted.

If the heir is an undead like Ainz, they might inherit the ability of [Create Undead] and need preserved corpses to practice. Hearing this Cocytus grows more confident he could act as a grandfather to the heir with all these advantages. Plus beside the frozen environment, there is the Frozen Prison where the heir could have access to all sorts of captured humans, and give them an opportunity to select the best specimens to make a corpse. Cocytus imagines that not only creating undead, but he could coach the heir in practicing [Control Amnesia] on living specimens.

Demiurge though warns he will have to be careful with the heir as they may experience a rebellious phase. At that point they may demand attention insistently, though Cocytus is believed to be be able to adapt over Sebas Tian's stoic demeanor. However Cocytus worries about not having enough experience and that in the future he will be rivals with the butler for intimacy with the heir. Demiurge points out that Cocytus has overcome obstacles before, such as managing the lizardmen, stating that raising the heir would be no different if he applies himself. Not only that one of the lizardmen, Zaryusu Shasha has a child which Cocytus could connect with as a start.

Cocytus encouraged by Demiurge's logic imagines being praised by Ainz for his growth, impassioning him on the idea. Mare though comes to a small flaw in the logic of having an undead heir. Since they would be undead, then would they be able to grow as a child? This proves to be a conundrum as Albedo already i busy making baby clothes for a heir, but if that is so then would the heir be an eternal undead that never grows beyond infancy? It would prove to be a problem, though some like Nigredo would rejoice at the child.

This causes Cocytus to be depressed again as the point of being a grandfather to a child is to watch them grow. He is consoled by Demiurge as everything they spoke about is only hypothetical. The chapter ends with Cocytus sculpting a small miniature version of Ainz and then enlarging it as a reflection of the hypothetical heir growth from a child to an adult.
