Supreme Mahjong (至高の麻雀) is the sixtieth chapter of the Overlord: The Undead Oh! series.

Summary[]

Momonga, Peroroncino and Ulbert Alain Odle notice Tabula Smaragdina, Touch Me and Bukubukuchagama congregating in an area. Momonga spying the object of interest sees that its a mahjong table. Touch Me adds that the table and the tiles were originally brought into the Yo Za Shitzu to add to the interior as decorations. Though recently it was discovered that the set is totally usable as a mahjong set. This surprises Peroroncino as it means that mahjong is built into the game system. Touch Me clarifies that players are able to manually manipulate the tiles on the table and play it as a game just as in the real world.

Peroroncino hearing that is disappointed, which Touch Me comments that nowadays mahjong is mainstream and mostly played as online matches. Still the game perks Pero interest and even says that he dabbled a little in mahjong. However he played via online, and usually there was an alert system to aid the a player. However doing so manually would be difficult.

Tabula and Momonga take an interest in the game having seen it in anime and manga. Likewise Bukubukuchagama being a voice actor played the role in mahjong eroge though the genre was for typical romance ADV. She voiced the characters, Mimotohatsu Sangen, who played mahjong.

Its apparent that no one knowns how to really play save for Touch Me. Bukubukuchagama though recalls that mahjong is a game that shady people usually play. Touch Me states that only happens when people bet, but it is possibly to play a healhty game. For Tabula he imagines school girls playing mahjong as a reference.

Touch Me using a white board explains that mahjong is a game where a player makes a hand with 14 tiles from thirty-four types of tiles and earn points. The guild members hearing this now see it to be a game similar to poker like with the hands of "full house" and "straight". Only for mahjong, using the fourteen tiles, a player needs to make four of three sets and one pair. The combination of the four sets or "pon" can either be a set of three of a kind or even a set of consecutive numbers or "chii".

Hearing this Bukubukuchagama thinks maybe the game is more simpler than she thought, only to be stunned when Touch Me states that the games has many exceptions. Before Touch Me can continue he is called away from the game to the real world to go shopping with his family. Ulbert takes over the lecture, promising to give them a "proper" lecture on the game. Thinking that firsthand experience in mahjong is needed, Ulbert decides that a game should be played.

Being an experienced mahjong player Ulbert will play against the remaining guild members: Momonga, Bukubukuchagama and Tabula. Ulbert starts the game at the table amd goes first and then goes counterclockwise from him to Bukubukuchagama to Tabula and Momonga.

The game starts when Ulberts throws a tile into the pile, causing Tabula to call out "pon" but Peroroncino taking a look at his tiles informs his friend that it isn't. Tabula apologizes as heard that "pon" was a strong set and the best strategy to deal the most damage per second (DPS) against the other world.

Ulbert then asks the people at the table to ask Pero for any questions that they might have. Momonga though fails to do so and calls out a draw. Ulbert though states that in mahjong an invalid hand would be referred to as a "gotsumo". Though a player could draw a tile silently, but they allow Momonga to throw one of his tiles into the pile.

Momnga takes a new tile though confesses to Pero that its blank. Pero states that alright though asks Momonga what he surmises that the purpose of the blank tiles are for. In poker having blank cards was normal and were treated as spares. Using poker as a reference, Momonga thinks that a blank tile is like a joker card or wild card. While incorrect, Pero allows it as taking a look at Momonga's tiles realizes that he can use the tile to form a "kan" or meld fur identical tiles in the same suit. Ulbert is annoyed by this free-style of the rules but allows concedes as they are teaching beginners.

Soon enough under Pero's instruction the beginners soon get familiar with the game and Momonga successfully completes his hand. Though a few like Ulbert and Bukubukuchagama complain about the complexity of acquiring three of a kind of three consecutive tiles. The two instructors then permit some exceptions to the rules.

At night Touch Me returns to Nazarick where he finds a lively game of mahjong begin played by his friends. However Touch Me is stunned to find that the rule of the game have slightly changed to allow for pairs of tiles rather than the usual triple tiles to be included in a tile hand so as to make it more easier for the beginners. More so the calculation of points have grown absurd but since the four are having fun, Touch Me thinks its okay, at least until he sees the added tile auction where players bid for a tile using points they accrued.

Ulbert plays a successful true hand using tiles to symbolically represent YGGDRASIL. Seeing that it is a "dora" hand Momonga states that Ulbert will receive bonus points. Ulbert wins and is declared the winner, with all the other players praising him and the game. Touch Me observing this wonders aloud if this is even mahjong anymore.
