Plot
The movie begins at the Roble Holy Kingdom, that lies on a peninsula to the west of Re-Estize Kingdom, where it's border is guarded as the Great Wall against demi-human incursions from the Abelion Hills. Pabel and Orlando, two members of Nine Colors are stationed at the Great Wall when a massive army of demi-human tribes appears before the it waiting to invade.
The leader of the army turns out to be none other than the Demon Emperor Jaldabaoth. The human defenders recognize the name Jaldabaoth, having heard of his role in orchestrating the Demonic Disturbance in Re-Estize. Though the demon declares himself a more grandiose title of Demon Emperor and that he came to make the Holy Kingdom into a carnival of hell.
Initially the defenders at the walls reject his words as bravado, with Pabel aiming an arrow to attack the Demon Emperor. The attack is negated by Jaldabaoth, who then retaliates by summoning a meteor upon the wall, breaching it and killing Pabel and many of the defenders. Orlando, having survived the meteor fall, attempts to attack Jaldabaoth from behind, but is killed by his own sword when the demon magically commands him to use it on himself. Jaldabaoth then orders his demi-humans and demons to invade the kingdom, but not before tearing the shoulder of one of the demi-human leaders for arriving slowly to the invasion.
After the start of the invasion, the northern fortress of Kalinsha is attacked by Jaldabaoth's demonic forces. Grandmaster of the Paladin Order, Remedios leads a defense of the city. Remedios, flanked by her escorts arrive at the town square where Jaldabaoth is waiting with his Demonic Maids, having slaughtered the human soldiers there. Remedios engages in battle but her attacks are easily dodged by the demon. They are joined by Kelart, Remedios' younger sister and Queen Calca. The queen tries to open a dialogue with the Demon Emperor, to gain information, of which Remedios tries to discourage her against due to her prejudice towards demi-humans and non-humans.
Jaldabaoth, having left his army behind to attack Kalinsha himself, tells the humans that he came to check to see if their nation had any warriors on par with the adamantite adventurer Momon who drove him out of the Re-Estize Kingdom. However seeing that there was no one of that level guarding Calca, the demon says that his concerns were without merit. Having heard enough, Calca orders her soldiers and Remedios to attack Jaldabaoth. Angelic summons are brought forth. But even with them and Calca and Kelart's magic power, they do not appear to harm him. Remedios manages to knock the demon off his feet and into a building with her sword and the building is burned for further measure. The attacks however, amuse Jalabaoth, who rises out of the rumble, seemingly in a new and bigger demonic avatar. The demon proceeds to wipe out the summoned angels and is impervious to Remedios's sword attacks. Remedios seeing the danger orders Calca and Kelart to escape, but the demon merely teleports, blocking the queen and her sister's escape.
Sometime later, the demi-humans have overrun the northern part of the Holy Kingdom. Desperate, Remedios and her aide Gustave lead a delegation to the Sorcerer Kingdom to convince the Momon of Darkness to come to the Holy Kingdom to fight Jaldabaoth. Accompanying them is a squire named Neia Baraja, the daughter of the late Pabel who has be in charge of guiding them on their journey. The group comes across what appears to be a thick blanket of fog. The cause of the fog is unknown so the delegation journeys cautiously. They continue following the road to the capital of the Sorcerer Kingdom, when they are astonished to see a Ghost Ship sailing by in the fog. As it vanishes they find themselves near the city of E-Rantel, its gates flanked by two giant statues of the Sorcerer King Ainz Ooal Gown.
The Holy Kingdom delegation enters the city, and Remedios makes it evident she loathes coming to the Sorcerer Kingdom, as it is ruled by what she perceives as a dreadful undead. Only her subordinate Gustav keeps her in check on focusing on the bigger picture of saving their nation. The paladins are greeted by the naga Ryraryus Spenia Ai Indarun, who informs them that the Sorcerer Kingdom is aware of their nation's situation and is willing to grant them an audience and the peculiarities of the city. It becomes apparent as the delegation witnesses a dragon flying in the skies, and also the undead like Death Knights. Not only that, in the market they see a merchant and his rabbitman maid and a troop of goblins, members of various races all living in peace to the amazement of the paladins.
At the mansion where the Sorcerer King dwells, the delegation are formally greeted by Albedo and are given an audience to Ainz Ooal Gown. During the meeting with the undead, which occurred offscreen Neia had directly addressed the Sorcerer King in which she was able to convince the Sorcerer King to send out Momon to the Holy Kingdom in two years instead of three years. After the delegation retreated to a area reserved for them, Remedios berates the squire for her speaking without permission. Neia is defended by Gustave as he points out thanks to her Neia was able to reduce the time that the Holy Kingdom would receive help. Regardless the grandmaster cannot laud an action as Neia could have put all negotiations at risk by potentially offending the Sorcerer Kingdom. Even so Neia believes such a risk is worth it, offering to take responsibility with her life. Though her words of self-sacrifice only infuriate the brazen grandmaster.
Once Neia is dismissed from Remedios' presence, Gustav secretly praises her, telling her efforts while unappreciated by their leader, he recognizes what she has accomplished. Gustave hopes to renegotiate with the Sorcerer King in another meeting. He explains that the situation in the Holy Kingdom is dire and Remedios is burden by its fate. As far as the other countries are aware the Northern region of the kingdom is now occupied by the Demi-Human Alliance, while the Southern region remains free and safe. And that the Queen and her forces maintain high moral despite the losses. Of course the latter part about the Queen is not true as the Calca has been missing since Kalinsha. In truth Calca was taken by Jaldabaoth who then proceeded to sadistically use the woman as a bludgeoning weapon against her soldiers and allies, leaving Remedios guilt ridden for her friend's fate. Thus Remedios refuses to return to her homeland empty-handed, not without Momon's aid.
While grooming the horses at the stables, Neia is met by the Sorcerer King who wishes to have a secret meeting with the Holy Kingdom delegation. During the meeting the Sorcerer King explains that because his kingdom was just recently founded he cannot send Momon from E-Rantel to the Holy Kingdom, as his presence as a reliable hero puts the humans at ease even while under the reign of an undead king. If he leaves Ainz fears the humans will suffer from his disappearance. However he has a solution and a demand where he would be willing to grant them the services of someone equal in strength to Momon.
Ainz's demand, of course, are the Demon Maids that serve Jaldaboth which he claims he could take from the Demon Emperor if he defeats him. The demand is accepted by Remedios. As for who Ainz has in mind to send that is equal to Momon. it is none other than himself as he claims he is even stronger than the adventurer and will defeat Jaldabaoth. Remedios readily agrees to this, much to Gustav's shock, but declines Ainz's suggestion of bringing an undead army, stating her forces will take care of the demon's forces.
Later at night, Gustav tries to argue with the Grandmaster on why she agreed to have Ainz come but not his undead armada. Remedios reasons that the undead army would terrify their people and sully their homeland. Even so, Gustav has reservations of bringing Ainz as he is a sovereign and that there could be possible consequences should any harm come to him. But that is precisely why Remedios agreed to have Ainz accompany them back to the Holy Kingdom. To her Ainz is not a king but a monster and an enemy of humanity. The best case scenario is that when the Sorcerer King and Demon Emperor fight, they will destroy each other. The idea of such a ploy goes sour with Gustav and many of her men, but Remedios is unwavering, deeming her actions as justice to protect the innocents. She then assign Neia to accompany the Sorcerer King as his attendant, to convince him to aid them but also to prevent him from gaining too much intel. To Remedios, she intends to milk the Sorcerer King for as much as he's worth.
The next morning the Holy Kingdom delegation heads out from the city, with Ainz Ooal Gown being transported via a carriage drawn by two Soul Eaters. Inside Neia is sitting with the Sorcerer Kingdom. Due to her eyes, Ainz thinks she is glaring at him, which she apologizes explaining this is a trait she inherited from her father. They converse, with Ainz asking her what she thought of his country. Neia believed it was a wonderful place having never seen so many races lived together in peace. She adds that she was impressed by the statues of Ainz, and learns that similar ones will be built, though Ainz feels that they are a bit premature. Though he covers his discomfort by stating that the greatness of a king should not be displayed through his monuments but by rule, leaving Neia with an impression of him as wise king. Since it will take ten days to reach the Holy Kingdom, he and Neia continue to engage in their conversation, starting with Neia's reason for becoming a paladin.
Upon reaching the territory of the Holy Kingdom, the delegation head to a hidden camp of the Holy Kingdom Liberation Army hidden in a cave containing glowing mushrooms. At the meeting room Ainz wants to know the exact situation of the Holy Kingdom. He deduces from the camp that the paladins are in dire straights forced to wage a guerilla war against the demi-humans who are occupying the north. And while the north and south parts of the kingdom are separated geographically, there is also a political divide. So much so that the south have sent no aid in the war. And with Queen Calca's absence at the meeting, Ainz can only assume the worst. Gustav impressed the Sorcerer King can deduce that much with a glance urges Remedios to reveal that the Queen and High Priestess Kelart have been sing since the battle with Jaldabaoth. But due to them having high divine magic Remedios maintains hope that they were captured and still alive. Locating the two are the liberation forces main priority as is liberating the north territory's cities.
The plan currently is to free the capture citizen to bolster the human resistance's numbers and supplies. Thus they plan to attack the small city of Loyts where intel suggests there are members of the royal family are being held. The Liberation Army hope that through Ainz's an easy victory will be achieved. But to their surprise the Sorcerer King refuses to involve himself in battle as he wishes to battle Jaldabaoth require him to conserve his magic power for their encounter. Furthermore the Sorcerer King will not wage their war unless he is given total command ng him to save the kingdom. This is requirement for his assistance is rejected by Remedios as she and her men's fealty still belong to the queen.
Later Ainz met outside the camp by Neia. Upon hearing how her father imparted his skill as a ranger to Neia, despite her wishing to be a paladin, Ainz bequeaths her the bow Ultimate Shooting Star Super as a token of his gratitude. Though Neia finds it took grandiose a gift, she accepts it. Ainz also tells her that it was made from using ancient magic technology and to use it to protect him should the need occur.
At the attack on Loyts, the paladins of the Liberation Army charge to the front gates of the city. To begin their siege of the city, their magic caster summon Angel Guardians and bring up a battering ram to open the gates. Amid the attack on the city defended by the demi-human Bafolk. Ainz and Neia sit and watch from afar, though the former is disappointed that the latter is not participating in the battle to show off her rune engraved weapon. However she prefers to sit and watch to guard him and prevents any other paladin from examining the bow.
The siege at the gates is stalled when the bafolk use a child as a hostage to force the paladins to back off. Remedios not willing to harm an innocent orders her men to comply. Though the bafolk go even further with the extortion by demanding the humans to surrender. Ainz then steps in, chiding Remedios in giving into the demands of the enemy by showing using hostages are effective against them. Due to her sense of responsibility of justice, Remedios though refuses to make sacrifices even against the counsel of her aide Gustav as doing thing anything else would be dishonoring Calca. Ainz bluntly tells her that there are no other methods that are without casualties. Remedios refuses to listen and opts to try and negotiate with the demi-humans, only to be coldly told off by Neia that it will not work. The rebuke from a mere squire causes Remedios' anger to turn on Neia. Neia no longer afraid of Remedios tells the grandmaster her desire for a plan without any sacrifices will not work and only will lead to more deaths. That some must be sacrificed so that the many can survive. This is still refused by Remedios, even as the Sorcerer King urges for the leader to listen to reason.
Seeing that city remains untaken and their arguing over justification of making sacrifices will not serve the goal, Ainz then decides to tip the scales of the battle in favor allies. The Sorcerer King is permitted to approach the gate by Remedios to deal with the bafolk. The gate is then destroyed by a [Fireball] by Ainz who also summons several High Wraiths and sends to invade the city. Neia rides alongside Ainz into the city, who is given a Star Pendant to protect her from his aura that he will release to instill fear in all those who come near him.
The paladins then use the breach Ainz made in the gates to invade the city. While Ainz and Neia watch them pass, the Sorcerer King asks the squire if she expected him to use magic to save the boy being held hostage by the bafolk? Neia answers that she indeed expected so. Ainz though tells her he could have done so, but explains that by teaching the enemy that hostages are effective they will continue to use the prisoners inside the city as shields. This will prevent the paladins' to hesitate which will be detrimental to the war effort. Thus Ainz killed the child, and while cruel this example will prevent further sacrifices.
Before entering Loyts, the undead bends to pick up the burned corpse of the child he kill. While Neia offers to carry the body for the Sorcerer King, Ainz insists on doing so as it was his decision to kill the boy. The two the take the body aside the gates to have it cleaned as much as possible. Neia vows that the bafolk will pay, and Ainz while he is a foreign king in a foreign land, solemnly says that if they boy had been a citizen of his kingdom, it would have been his responsibility to protect him. To which Neia sound like justice itself, that his reasoning is right and actions are just. Although Ainz admits that there is no justice in his actions, only a wish for peaceful lives for himself and his children.
The emancipated human prisoners soon emerge from the city. A man at the head of the crowd seeing the body on the ground, runs to it and breaks down crying, revealing that he is the father of the boy that was killed. Ainz then tells the man he killed the boy to save him and his fellow prisoners. Before the man can assign blame on Ainz for the death of his child, the Sorcerer King asks why the man did not die to protect his son. When the man argued that there was nothing he could do, as the bafolk were too strong. This only proves Ainz's point that he was too weak to protect what was his. He then affirms that it is the way of the world for might to make right, leaving Neia the former captives speechless. The Sorcerer King leaves with pity for the man so he can mourn his son, and tells Neia the reason why he desires strength is so that he can have the power to protect what is his.
Ainz and Neia then proceed to enter Loyts, where the High Wraith begin haunting the area, driving many bafolk into paralyzing fear. The leader of the bafolk, Grand King Buser remains unaffected by the undead's abilities, patiently waiting for Ainz to confront him. The demi-human is offered to surrender or die by Ainz. Buser as a king refuses to submit again as doing so before Jaldabaoth was enough. The Sorcerer King expresses interest in Buser's equipment which appear to be magic items, save for the belt of skulls around his waist, which the demi-human reveals are more for a sense of fashion. That being said Ainz conjures a sword and the two kings clash in a duel. The resulting short duel leaves the Sorcerer King the victor as he is seen appraising the magic items he collected from Buser's corpse.
By morning the Liberation Army had successfully retaken Loyts and begin their work in healing and feeding the injured and starved former prisoners. Meanwhile Ainz and Neia go to an isolated part of the city, the former being drawn to it by the air of death. There they discovered several chained orcs. The orcs are spoken for by their leader Dyel Gan Zu of the Gan Zu Tribe who explains because he and the orcs refused to bow before Jaldabaoth they were imprisoned and subsequently punished for their defiance. The orcs refuse the offer of sanctuary in the Sorcerer Kingdom, not trusting the word of an undead like Ainz. This is met with rebuke from Neia who defends the king's just and generous persona. Furthermore Ainz wishes to offer his kindness to the orcs to hopefully undermine Jaldabaoth who rules with fear to convince other demi-human tribes to rebel against him. With some hesitation Dyel agrees for Ainz to transport his people back to their village in the Abelion Hill, which the Sorcerer King complies with teleportation magic out of Neia's sight.
The duo are soon found by Gustav, who reports some wonderful news that Calca's older brother Caspond has been found. The prince who is being attended to by a magic caster, graciously thanks the Sorcerer King for his assistance. The two leaders after shaking hands, Caspond holds a secret meeting with the leadership of the Liberation Army. With Calca and Kelart's fate being unknown, likely to either be killed or captured, despite Remedios insistence that they can bring Calca back as long as they locate Kelart, Caspond doesn't hope too much. Rather than retreat to the Southern Kingdom, the prince decides to make Loyts the Liberation Army's base. While reckless, the prince explains he sent for aid from the Southern nobles, but doesn't expect much from them in the war against the demi-humans as the nobles seek the throne. Caspond seeks to use Ainz as much as possible. Knowing that the Sorcerer King only came to claim the Demonic Maids that Jaldabaoth commands, the princes intends to use the Sorcerer King to thin the number of de-humans. While this plan makes Gustav uncomfortable, Caspond justifies the plan as a way to reduce the number of innocent citizens who will have to die.
The next day the city of Loyts is surrounded by a huge army of 40,000 demi-humans. In contrast to the 10,000 strong that is composed of the human defenders the Liberation Army is at a disadvantage. Remedios deduces that the only hope for victory will be to survive until assistance from the south come. Or if they can force the demi-humans to retreat. Gustav brings troubling news that the citizens of Loyts have been asking if Ainz will participate in the defense, looking towards him for protection. However as both he and Remedios know the Sorcerer King will not fight on the Liberation Army's behalf as he wishes to conserve his strength against Jaldabaoth. Gustave fears that if the citizens find out of Ainz's restraint, then morale will plummet. But what is more troubling is that the people regard Ainz as a hero rather than a king, and Gustav worries if it's only a matter of time before the people of the Holy Kingdom elevate him as king of their nation. Remedios finds this to be utter insanity, as the kingdom already has a monarch. She begins to regret bringing the Sorcerer King to her nation, but Gustav reminds her it was the best decision given the situation. While Gustav does not blame the people for being drawn to Ainz due to his power, the paladins need to counter this, by first fighting themselves to reclaim their kingdom with their own hands.
In the meantime plans are also being made by the leadership of the demi-human army outside the city. The tribal chieftains led by the Naga Raja Rokesh, addresses his fellows, Vijar Rajandala and Muar Praxua of the Zoastia tribes, Nasrene Belt Cure of the Magelos, Halisha Ankara of the Stone Eater tribes, and Hectowaizes Ah Ragara of the Orthrous tribes. Though some like Vijar are impatient wanting to attack, Rokesh asks him patience as per Jaldabaoth's order they are to give the humans time to allow their fear fester. The snakeman plans to attack Loyts in two days time, and follow Jaldabaoth's command to allow some humans to escape the city to spread word, while the rest will be massacred.
That night Ainz receives a visit from Neia who informs him that she will be unable to continue her duty as his attendant as she will be on the frontlines defending the city. Likewise Ainz warns Neia that he might not come to her aid, as he already expended much magic, unless Jaldabaoth shows up. Neia understands this but resolves herself in fighting for her homeland. The Sorcerer King admiring her eyes of determination then gifts her additional magic items to aid her, Turtle Shell, Circlet of Iron Will, Gauntlets of Archery and Visor Mirror Shade. Neia tries to decline as she already accepted his bow, so Ainz decides to exchange a promise, that Neia can return the items to him when she returns and no longer needs them. Touched by his concern for her Neia vows to survive and return them.
On the day of the demi-human' attack, the human soldiers at the walls are terrified, with some holding on to hope that the Sorcerer King will come. Neia who is present informs her countrymen that the Sorcerer King will not be taking part in the battle. The soldiers recognize her as the Sorcerer King's former attendant and demand to know why the king refuses to fight. To which she explains that the Sorcerer King is saving his energy to fight the Demon Emperor. Thus they will have to fight for themselves. These words throw the men in despair as they can obviously see that they are outnumbered and will die. In response Neia remind the soldiers that the duty falls to them to save their kingdom. That using their weakness as a excuse to rely on the Sorcerer Kingdom is no reason to shy from the war. Her words ring to the men at the walls, and while scared steel themselves to fight to protect the city.
The demi-humans begin their attack at the sound of their war drums, the first stage of the siege begins with ogres bringing ballista to pierce the walls with volleys of projectiles. The human defenders then use magic to embolden their troops and summon angel to launch aerial attacks by having their summons drop fire bombs on the demi-human attackers. This is countered by spidans launching webs, as well as pteropuses flying up to fight the angels. The army then begins to advance on the city. From the walls, Neia and the human soldiers are shocked to see that some of the demi-humans are wearing human children on their chest, using them as meat shields. Not willing to let the demi-humans use hostages, Neia shoots one of the children and urges the other soldiers at the wall to defend the city as there is nothing they can do to save the children. This horrifies many of the soldiers, until one of them finally accepts that she is right and tells his comrades to fight. The man is recognized by Neia as the same man who's son was killed by Ainz who now accepts it stating that there will be a fate worse than death for the women and children in Loyts if the demi-humans get past them.
The demi-humans scale the walls of Loyts via assault ladders, where the human soldiers and Neia meet them in combat. In the battle Neia is nearly killed by a Stone Eater, but is saved thanks to her Turtle Shell given to her by Ainz. At the gates, Remedios stands guard with several soldiers and her paladins. The gates are reached and the Grandmaster and her men manage to block them through a combination of shield walls and fire bombs. That is until Vijar, Nasrene and Halisha arrive to personally deal with the human leader. Remedios realizing she needs help calls for the paladins Sabicus and Esteban to aid her in fighting the demi-human generals.
Remedios manages to counter Vijar for a tome, but her two paladins are quickly killed by Nasrene and Halisha. The two generals plan to break through the shield wall and invade the city, which Remedios tries to prevent. Her efforts are hindered by Vijar who wants to finish killing her. Remedios then tries to finish Vijar with a divine attack, but it is ineffective as the demi-human is not an evil-aligned being much to her confusion. Nasrene and Halisha are about to proceed to conquer the city. Remedios tries to stop them but Vijar uses a skill that compels her to resume her duel with him as he wants glory to his name by defeating the paladin.
Nasrene then uses her magic to break through the human defenders, but it is blocked by Ainz's magic. The Sorcerer King hovering in the air, rouses some curiosity by the demi-humans, though the human soldiers are ecstatic on his arrival much to Remedios' anger. Remedios then demands to know what the Sorcerer King doing, and after being told he came to help, she decides to hand off fighting the demi-humans at the gate to him while she and her men retreat to fortify the other areas of the city. The disrespect infuriates the Sorcerer King, which even the demi-huma generals comment with amusement. This amount of humiliation is too much for the undead to bear who then uses instant death magic on the three chieftains, killing them. Ainz then summons a herd of Soul Eaters and orders them to destroy the demi-humans. The monsters presence decimates the army. Ainz is disappointed in himself for investing too much in trying to accommodate Remedios, but after experiencing her brutish behavior believes he miscalculated and thinks maybe he should have came to aid Neia instead.
Back at the walls, the human defenders are fighting a desperate battle against the invading demi-humans. Things turns dire as a Stone eater named Jajan successfully claims the head of the commander of the human soldiers. His victory is short-lived as his head is pierced by an arrow shot by Neia. Some of the demi-humans turn their attention on the squire, and seeing the armor she wears belonged to Buser, assume she is the one who killed the Grand King. Seeing her fight with such bloodlust and crazy eyes she is given the name of the Mad-Eye Archer. The remaining soldiers rally to her, urging that they need to retreat as the area of the walls is already lost. Neia refuses to retreat no wishing to disgrace Ainz after he had given her such aid. Together with the remaining soldiers she makes one last valiant charge against the invaders, managing to kill a couple. However Neia is soon outnumber, bogged down by her many wounds until eventually the demi-humans gang up on her. The squire soon succumbs to her wounds and dies, not before crying out to her parents and the Sorcerer King.
Neia awakens to find herself in the arms of the Sorcerer King, having been revived with a magic item. Ainz attends to her using various potions to heal and rejuvenate her. This worries Neia that he is expending his magic for her, as he might not be strong enough to face Jaldabaoth when the time comes. Upon hearing that Ainz prioritized her safety, the squire become elated and from there on associates the Sorcerer King with her ideal version of justice. Other surviving soldiers arrive and express their gratitude to the undead for coming to their aid. Ainz hands Neia to the soldiers whilst he flies out to tend to the invading demi-humans in the city. From the air, Ainz strikes the demi-humans with multiple spells, his acts making him seen as a hero to the human defenders.
At the end of the siege, the 40,000 demi-human army is defeated. Though marked as a huge victory, Caspond does not consider it "theirs" to claim. That glory is claimed by the Sorcerer King who did all by himself. This is objected by Remedios claiming that it was their people who fought and died at the frontlines. Caspond accepts the blood and sacrifices made by the citizens, priests and paladins, but the fact remains Ainz ended the battle. This is angrily rebuked by Remedios who points out that the undead only joined until the middle of the siege. The Grandmaster only has contempt for the Sorcerer King due to him showing off to the masses and treating the war like a game. A sudden epiphany come to the woman, suspecting he and Jaldabaoth are working together to benefit from the conflict. That all this is to weaken their country and play the hero.
And that this could all be a ploy to conquer the Holy Kingdom. Her warning though are disregarded by Prince Caspond as he feels that war had taken a toll on Remedios' mentality. Just when he gives the order for the Grandmaster to rest, the city is soon surrounded by a wall of fire and great fireball plunges on the balcony where the prince and paladin were speaking. Jaldabaoth emerges revealing he had heard of their victory against his army, and tells them it is too early to celebrate.
Enraged, Remedios attempts to attack him with her blade, but he knocks her aside with a burnt corpse he uses as a club. Covered in the blood and burnt flesh, to Remedios' horror she realizes that the charred remains are what is left of the Holy Queen after the Demon Emperor had taken her captive and used her a bludgeoning weapon on her own subordinates since the Battle of Kalinsha. The demon mocks Remedios as the woman breaks down attempting to collect the remains of her friend, before turning to the Sorcerer King who has arrived to confront the demon. A cordial exchange is done between the two sovereigns, which the two agree that they will fight in a duel to the death. Jaldabaoth openly adds that he is aware that defeating the Sorcerer King will be difficult as he knows the undead is stronger than Momon. Thus the Demon Emperor has something to tip the scales in his favor, and reveals he has brought his Demonic Maids to Loyts.
Jaldabaoth heads out to the Clocktower where he and the Sorcerer King agree to have their confrontation. Ainz tells Prince Caspond to evacuate the area so he can use his power without restraint. Neia implores Ainz to reconsider fighting the demon, concerned that the undead has not restored his mana. And that if he falls to the demon, what will the fate of his people in the Sorcerer Kingdom. Ainz though insists that while circumstances are not as planned, he will defeat the Demon Emperor as he made a promise as a king and claim the maids. Remedios is infuriated of Ainz once again being the hero can only kneel in defeat, crying for the loss of Calca.
Ainz then heads to the area, and once alone magically contacts a Hanzo in area to confirm if the area is secure. He is told that no one besides the Pleiades are present, which slightly disappoints Ainz as there are no signs of players or World Items. He was hoping to lure whoever attacked Shalltear out in the open, but after experiencing no outside surveillance on himself, the Sorcerer King suspects that the incident with the Floor Guardian was just a fluke. The Sorcerer King plans to follow Demiurge's plan, though still vague on the details, but hopes he can bluff through it and meet Demiurge's expectations of him. The problem is that the demon thinks his master is a genius and Ainz is too conscious on his image to correct Demiurge, leaving him to trust Demiurge's judgement for his plans for the Holy Kingdom. But even Ainz is finding it hard to follow Demiurge's train of thought, since sending a lone king out to a foreign nation was his subordinate's idea.
At the clocktower's plaza, Ainz comes face to face with Jaldabaoth, who is revealed to be an ordinary Evil Lord Wrath summon that Demiurge brought to play the role of the Demon Emperor, and what appears to be Lupusregina and Yuri in demonic looking masks are not the Pleiades, but rather Greater Doppelgangers from the Erich String Orchestra. The Sorcerer King then addresses the demon, asking if he knows the plan, which the latter confirms. In a flashback, it is revealed that Ainz had met with Demiurge, Albedo and Lupusregina before the staged meeting with Jaldabaoth. In the discussions, Ainz had two requests. The first was for some support on a personal project he had been having difficulties with. And the second was to ensure that his combat skills do not grow dull, the summoned demon must fight him seriously. At first the last request was objected by Demiurge, but shockingly Albedo agrees, though she suggests including the Pleiades to be included in the battle as the Evil Lord Wrath may not be enough. Ainz worries about accidentally killing the maids, so Greater Doppelgängers from Chacmool's Erich String Orchestra are used instead.
During the battle with Jaldabaoth and the Demonic Maids, Ainz receives a surprise that among the doppelgängers, the real CZ is participating. Still it is no issue to Ainz who continues with the duel with the leaders of the Liberation Army as an audience from afar. The fight leaves an area of the city totally decimated with brilliant flashes of their power on display. The fight takes to the air and soon witnessed by all of Loyts. In the end an injured and battered Demon Emperor emerges victorious. Under a downpour of rain, he boasts of having killed the Sorcerer King to the humans. He thanks the humans for their contributions in granting him victory, as he claims if Ainz had been in his proper from, even defeat of the Sorcerer King would have eluded him.
That due to his kindness in protecting them, he allowed his defeat. Jaldabaoth announces that he will depart and rest due to his wounds. He vows to return and destroy the human resistance. In the looming despair, Neia refuses to believe the demon that Ainz is dead. The squire raises the bow Ain had given her at the demon. Jaldabaoth is astonished by seeing it, calling it one of the few things that can harm him. As he demands to know where Neia found the bow, and suspects that it is the lost runecraft. Not caring what the demon is saying the archer tries to shoot Jaldabaoth out of the sky with her arrows and bow, prompting the demon to escape by teleporting and leaving Neia shedding tears in the rain.
Three days since the disappearance of the Sorcerer King, Neia buries her grief in training archers in the newly formed Archery Unit. The squire wishes to form a search unit and locate Ainz, but her request has been denied by Prince Caspond, making Neia curse herself for her own weakness. Hence she begins preaches to those she trains that weakness is a sin.
While training some new archers, Neia is summoned by Prince Caspond. While Neia hoped that the prince has changed his mind, the royal tells her that it is not possible as it is assumed that Ainz may have landed in the Abelion Hills when he fell after being defeated by Jaldabaoth. The hills are full of demi-humans and in enemy territory. So unless they prepare a sizable force, the Liberation Army would be sending soldiers to senseless deaths. Neia still feels that the should at least conduct a search around the city, but this is rejected harshly by Remedios, not casting any doubt that the Sorcerer King is dead, and tells Neia to stop living in fantasy. Before the two women can argue any further, Caspond interrupts them to inform them of a new ally he would like to introduce them.
The ally the prince mentioned turns out to be a demi-human named Beebeebee who is an emissary of the Zern tribes. The Zerns currently are trying to rebel against the Demon Emperor. In fact the only reason why they follow his commands is because the Zern royal family has been taken hostage. But even though the Zerns cooperated to ensure their king's safety, after the Zerns left the hills the demons killed him regardless. Their prince is the only surviving royal and male of the Zern, being locked away in Kalinsha. Thus the Zerns have reached out to cooperate with the Liberation Army for their aid in a rescue operation. If the prince is rescued the Zern will lend 3,000 of their own to help the human resistance take back Kalinsha. After that the prince promises Neia that then a rescue unit can be sent out to search for Ainz. What he wants from her is to take part in the mission to rescue the Zern prince.
Caspond has another surprise for Neia, as he wants her to work with someone on the mission. After the Sorcerer King fought Jaldabaoth, one of the Demonic Maids came out and surrendered herself to the resistance. Though Ainz did not triumph in battle with the Demon Emperor, he managed to seize control of one of the maids, hence her willingness to offer her assistance. Neia then goes to a boarded up mansion which is under guard where the Demonic Maid is kept, who is revealed to be CZ.
Neia hesitantly asks the maid for her aid. Over chocolate drinks, the two talk about the mission. The plan is for both Neia and CZ to infiltrate the castle in Kalinsha to free the prince, after which the Liberation Army and Zerns will unite to retake the city. Neia tells CZ that the Zerns warn of a great demon guarding the castle, which they will have to be on the look out for. CZ is aware of the demon, it being one of three demons that rotate guarding the city. The maid cannot say how strong they are, only that they are weaker than Ainz. Neia notices CZ using the Sorcerer King's personal name, and tries to correct the maid on using his title. This is firmly rejected by CZ claiming that she had permission. Though they argue at first over their closeness to the Sorcerer King, but grew to bond over their mutual respect for the undead king. CZ now taking a liking to the human, states that she will ensure Neia's safety for the duration of the mission. CZ adds that Ainz gave her one order to help his allies thus she will fulfill her duty. To show her liking to Neia, she plant a One-Yen Sticker. Before they part ways, Neia asks if CZ can help her find the Sorcerer King, unsure if he is dead or alive. CZ agrees to help, and confirms that the Sorcerer King is indeed alive, as she being under his control is proof. This brings tears of relief to Neia, glad her liege is alright.
Later under the cover of darkness, Remedios leads the Liberation Army in an attack on Kalinsha. Meanwhile, Zerns sneak both Neia and CZ into the city, in a cart supposedly filled with barrels of meat for the demi-human forces. Once the barrels enter the castle, Neia and CZ emerge from hiding. Together the two infiltrate the castle to reach the tower where the Zern prince is being held. Using stealth the dispatch a few demi-human guards with relative ease. Upon reaching the tower, they are confronted by a Vah Un guard. The pair's ranged attacks appear ineffective against the Vah Uh as he can transform into a liquid to avoid attacks. But CZ deduces that there is a limit and together they manage to kill the demi-human.
The pair find the Zern Prince, Beebeezee. Initially the prince is hesitant to escape as it may incur the anger of Jaldabaoth and lead to the death of the king. But he is informed that the king is dead and that his own people risked making an alliance with the humans to free him. Beebeezee agrees to leave with them, though requests that that make it look like they are kidnapping him in order to protect his people.
The trio then return to where the barrels of meat are stored to sneak out, where they encounter Beebeebee and three other Zerns. Beebeezee feels that if they flee with his subjects it will only spell doom. Beebeebee argues that they have no choice as Jaldabaoth has made it clear he regards them as nothing as slaves or livestock. She even uses the treatment of Boobeebee, how the Demon Emperor views his subordinates. Worse the Zerns confirm that one of Jaldabaoth demon aides are in the castle, one with two heads.
CZ identifies the demon as a Circlet Demon, and a creature that uses the heads of magic casters to cast spells. CZ recommends that they kill it, which is agreed by Beebeezee, putting his support and the Zerns in on the new mission. The demon is found to be alone in its chambers. Upon confronting the demon, Neia is horrified to see that one of the heads the Circlet Demon possesses is the missing Kelart. The demon is amused by the Zerns alliance with the humans, and attempts to coerce them to surrender by threatening the life of the Zern king. This is rejected by Beebeezee as he already know about his father's death. The news of the death of the Zern king is news to the demon, though to it matters little as it intends to finish the traitors. It summons to Shadow Demons it intends to use to kill the Zerns, and recapture the prince. For Neia it offers them to surrender, if so it will spare their lives.
CZ then proceeds to come out from hiding and attack it, initiating the fight between the demons and the party. CZ fights the demon in hand to hand combat, while Beebeezee and Neia provide range support with magic and arrows. Amidist the fighting Neia is injured by the Circlet Demon, CZ shields Neia, warning the demon that she will protect Neia with her life. She adds that the demon should be worried about the bow Neia has in her possession as it was gifted to her by the Sorcerer King. Furthermore she adds that it is made of runecraft, causing the demon to act dramatically in fear at such a lost technology that could potentially slay it. Neia not understanding shouts it's just a nice bow. Not knowing what to say, the demon casts a spell to blind the squire. Even so with some encouragement by CZ Neia looses and arrow, killing the demon.
Shortly afterwards the demi-humans and CZ finish off the remaining demons. Once Neia regains her eyesight, Beebeezee sees to the corpse of the second victim that the Circlet Demon used, Grand Mother, the former queen of the Pandex and childhood crush. Beebeezee commands his Zerns to give her a burial by consuming her. The head of Kelart is collected by Neia. Outside the castle, the Zerns openly rebel and join the attacking Liberation Army forces in fighting off the demi-humans loyal to Jaldabaoth.
A fully healed Jaldabaoth eventually emerges at the center of the city, and begins fighting the assembled human soldiers. The demon the begins setting the city aflame, intent on making sure Kalinsha will be the end for the invading army. Remedios orders her troops to fall back, despite Gustav's urgings to retreat with them, for she intends to fight Jaldabaoth. Neia and CZ from a balcony spot an army of armored demi-humans approaching the city. They deduce that they are reinforcements from the Abelion Hills, with their approach they leave the Liberation Army and its allies trapped in the city.
Neia tells CZ to escape, as she will remain behind to atone for being weak and unable to protect the Sorcerer King. All she asks of CZ is to search for Ainz in her stead. It turns out not to be necessary, as the approaching army soon reveals a banner of the Sorcerer Kingdom, being led by Ainz. Ainz being reunited with Neia and CZ is surprised to see the two have grown close. The Sorcerer King explains the circumstances of his return. After having been defeated by Jaldabaoth, he crashed into the Albelion Hills. After a bit of time and work he managed to have the entire area under the management of the Sorcerer Kingdom, thus explaining the demi-human army he brought.
The Sorcerer King then rides into battle to pay Jaldabaoth back for his previous feat. All the while the human soldiers who see him cheer his name, restoring their morale. This draws some curiosity from Ainz on why he is so beloved and welcomes though guesses it is a courtesy of Neia's influence. He remarks to the squire she seem much stronger, which gladdens her. To the cheering soldiers, Ainz announces his intent to have a rematch with the Demon Emperor, adding that his last match he was taken by surprise and at a weakened state, and that this match will see him victorious.
Jaldabaoth soon arrives before the Sorcerer King. The two powerful beings engage in a battle that shakes the city. It is witnessed by all, from a defeated Remedios laying in the streets, to Gustav and the paladins in the Liberation Army and to Beebeezee and his Zerns from the castle. In an epic aerial battle of dazzling display Ainz wins the duel. Upon his victory Neia, CZ and the humans of Kalinsha gather around him shouting glory to his name.
Sometime later at the royal capital of Hoburns, Neia addresses a crowd of citizens of the Holy Kingdom, giving her personal account of how Ainz defeated Jaldabaoth and what transpired afterwards. The Liberation Army had retaken Kalinsha and later retook Prart, which was followed by the capital. Praising his name, that he is without equal, and brought peace to the Holy Kingdom and Abelion Hills. And while some believe that demi-humans don't deserve peace, Neia points out that some of the demi-humans suffered just as much as the citizens of the Holy Kingdom. to the Sorcerer Kingdom's kindness he's delivered them from the Holy Kingdom to allow them to live under his banner. Hence the Holy Kingdom is safe and its peace preserved.
Furthermore Neia points out that no other king would have ventured alone and put his life on the life for a suffering kingdom no matter the race. Thus there should be no borders when it comes to bravery. Ainz has showed Neia a new view of the world, declaring him as the King of Justice. The squire then calls for he Holy Kingdom and its people to seek peace beneath the Sorcerer King.
After her speech, Neia retires backstage where she is greeted by her aide commending her in spreading the good word of the Sorcerer King. Neia finds to be east given her liege has accomplished so much. Due to her proselytizing followers of Sorcerer King have grown to 50,000. What's more the followers under the leadership of Neia will some into a new organization and design a new symbol for their new faith.
Neia meets the Sorcerer King and CZ again for the last time. Ainz no longer requires Neia to return his equipment to her, offering them to her as gifts for her hard work for him. Now that his business concluded in the Holy Kingdom, Ainz will return to the Sorcerer Kingdom. Although he requested that to Prince Caspond that his sendoff not be big, the Overlord still is surprised by the vast crowds that came to see him off. Yet Neia tells him that they view him as their savior and only wish to express his thanks. As the Ainz and CZ bid each other goodbye with hopes of seeing each other again, Neia requests if it will be alright to call him Lord Ainz.
The Sorcerer King and his maid then board their carriage and travel through the cheering crowds of thankful citizens. Neia sheds tears reflecting on how much Ainz has changed her life, before wiping them away, vowing to continue working hard to spread the Sorcerer King's justice throughout her kingdom.
Meanwhile at the royal palace, Prince Caspond alone and now having received the Crown of the Holy Kingdom, muses to himself that despite it was his leadership that steered the nation through the war, he will still face the discontent of the nobles once he becomes the Holy King. Especially from those in the Southern Kingdom who escape the horror of the death and violence. The prince finds him not alone anymore when Demiurge appears and adds that the discontent will grow into a rift that will spark a civil war between the North and South, splitting the kingdom into two.
The prince stunned to see Demiurge, then kneels before the Floor Guardian, acknowledging as his superior and happy to make his acquittance. Demiurge who had been lingering in the Holy Kingdom to plunder some treasures, asks the prince if there have been any problems. Caspon responds to say that everything had been going according to the demon's plans.
The Floor Guardian then tells the prince to begin the next phase of the plan, to aggravate the relationship between the North and South until it incites a civil war. This will turn the people of the Holy Kingdom, either searching for hope or asylum to Ainz Ooal Gown and willingly give themselves to the Sorcerer Kingdom. Caspond though expresses one concern, regarding Neia, unsure if they should continue preaching Ainz's name. He is worried that her popularity with the people might outweigh the authority of the Holy King in time. Demiurge tells her to leave her be, as it was ordered by Ainz, trusting his liege's genius even if he has yet to understand it. After all so many pieces have fallen in place throughout the period of the war to this point, thanks to the Sorcerer King.
For example, the Holy Kingdom a land mired with faith in the Holy King, and yet Ainz managed to forge a perfect loyal mouthpiece. One that Demiurge see will expedite his plans for the Holy Kingdom. Besides that Ainz's artful act of staging his own death, fooled the entire Holy Kingdom, further proves Demiurge that Ainz's genius is terrifying and deserve the mantle of being top of the Supreme Beings. And motivates Demiurge to devote himself more to making the world Ainz's.
Before Demiurge departs, Caspond asks what should be done with Remedios, asking if it would be safer to kill her before she caused trouble for their plans. Remedios having suffered much turmoil in the war, is seen mourning at the gravesite. Demiurge tells Caspond they will keep her alive, as she can be still of use, as a target for the discontent of the nobles. And that she will be disposed of only when both the North and South turn against one another. Caspond hears and obeys the demon, who then teleports away. The prince then approaches a nearby window to look upon the capital, coldly chuckling to his "subjects" to enjoy their happiness while they can as it will be fleeting. His face briefly flickers, revealing the face of a doppelgänger.
In the after credits scene, in Ainz and CZ's carriage, having put some distance between them and Hoburns, the former asks CZ how her first solo mission was. The maid answers that it was fun and yet challenging to think and act alone. Ainz inquires about CZ's relationship with Neia, which CZ responds that she is "her favorite." This is good to Ainz ears, who then asks another question about the runecraft sword he asked about, and if anyone showed any interest. CZ only responds that she did her best.
