"Your Majesty has a way with words. Then, allow me to reintroduce myself. I am Osk, an insignificant merchant."
- Osk introducing himself to Ainz Ooal Gown.

Osk (オスク) is a merchant of the Baharuth Empire and promoter of the Martial Lord of the Grand Arena.

Appearance[]

Osk is a stout-bodied figure, with hair cut so short that one could see his scalp.

Personality[]

Though Osk likes to battle, he is not proficient at fighting. Since Osk was a child, he has always admired the strong and as a result, likes to collect weapons and armor. He holds an avid interest in collecting dwarven craftsmanship, especially from the famed Stonenel Workshop. He does not appear to possess any prejudices against non-humans, unlike most of his kind. Osk dislikes magic, and he has a bitter memory of magic casters using their magic to easily win against a warrior in battle during one of the Grand Arena's matches.

Background[]

Osk dreams of raising the ultimate warrior in order to substitute for his talentless self. However, at that point, he realized that he did not need to limit himself to human beings.

For that reason, he was scouting for someone inhuman that might become the ultimate warrior, the tyrant of the arena, the future Martial Lord of his dream.

Ten years ago, Osk encountered Go Gin at the Empire's border for the first time and sponsored him to become the Martial Lord and champion of the Imperial Arena.

Mass for the Dead Arc[]

Main article: Mass for the Dead Arc

A year after the defeat of Enhela, Osk was hosting matches at the Grand Arena. The arena received a surprise visit from an inspection team from the Quadripartite Alliance, led by Emperor Jircniv. The visit came out as a surprise, but the merchant hurried out of the arena with his bodyguard, Headhunter Rabbit, to greet the emperor and the delegation.

The merchant apologized for the lateness of greeting Jircniv as he would have come sooner if he had been informed beforehand, though the emperor claimed that the inspection team wanted to see how Osk behaved on a daily basis. Osk then welcomed the delegation to the arena, both he and Headhunter Rabbit escorting them to the VIP Suite.

Upon hearing the roaring cheers from the crowd, Jircniv asked what the game were today, to which Osk answered that it is the last day of the Martial Lord's comeback matches and that he would soon be at his peak once again so the crowd was excited. The current match being one where Go Gin fought a Skeletal Dragon. While the VIP guests got acclimated with the events at the match, Osk answered Surako's question on the safety of using a Skeletal Dragon in a match, though the merchant assured her that it was safe and certain countermeasures were in place. The monster raised a question from Prime Minister Albedo in that his business was procuring monsters for the arena, which the merchant confirmed, along with scouting out warriors. Though currently he admitted he was helping the emperor make most of the arena.

King Zanac and Prime Minister Albedo realized that from a prior conversation with Jircniv, that he meant using the arena as a place to showcase those who have been resurrected from the contamination. By showing them bravely defeating monsters, it would dispel the impression of their violent past and ease people's anxieties. Osk was impressed how the delegates of the Alliance quickly saw what the emperor intended.

Osk and Headhunter Rabbit took their leave from the guests, to give Go Gin a big shoutout to the crowd, but not before informing them that the next match would be some newcomers and members of Silver Thread Bird. As soon as the pair left the VIP Suite, Osk breathed in relief that he managed to overcome the surprise visit, and was glad so far nothing bad had occurred. The merchant was even more excited about the events for today, though he notice that his companion was shivering uncontrollably. The Rabbit Man showed him his sweaty hands as proof of his fear, though the merchant took a chance to admire the muscled hands to the demi-human's annoyance. Headhunter rabbit explained that he sensed Albedo's strength. This interested Osk, as he wondered what would happen if he set a match with the Prime Minister, only to be told by his servant it would be better to run.

The merchant resumed his duties as promoter for the Grand Arena, congratulating Go Gin before the crowd and allowing the war troll to address the crowd before the next match. After a short break, Osk greeted the crowd again revealing the next match: Freivalds and Fan Long against two newcomers. Osk then reminded the two teams that there were rules for a friendly match such as no magic and that the crowd wanted to see a test of strength.

In the end victory went in favor to the rookies which was announced and praised by the merchant for their unique fighting styles and spirit. Later after the match, Osk and Headhunter Rabbit head to meet with Silver Thread Bird to give them their payment. Osk overheard the adventurers talking about the newcomers their members lost to and wondering where Osk had found them.

Osk and his bodyguard revealed themselves and entered into the conversation. The merchant confessed that he did not actually find them, it was more the other way around. The pair had approached him looking hungry for work. At first Osk wanted to dismiss them, but was convinced otherwise by Headhunter Rabbit, claiming that they were dangerous.[2]

At a meeting with Emperor Jircniv at the Imperial Palace, Osk asked him permission to use the Grand Arena to host a theater troupe production of "The Guiding Hand of Humanity" to garner the interest of children in the capital. Since it was about the Dark Hero, Jircniv approved of the show. While being treated to a dish of Healthy Blood Marriage, Osk came up with the idea of boosting attention to the arena by using chocolate as a prize. He first approached Ainzach at E-Rantel and later was directed to the protagonist. After some discussion and approval, it was agreed that the Chocolate Cup, would be the perfect way to promote chocolate and expand sales into the Empire.

Osk served as the announcer for the participants of the event, showcasing Go Gin, Silver Thread Bird, New Six Arms, Shall and Soi. At the end of the event, New Six Arms became the winners, and the promoter awarded them five-hundred snacks of Healthy Vermillion along with sales rights to the product.[3]

Afterwards, fighters who were suppose to fight in the Grand Arena against a Skeletal Dragon, chickened out, leaving Osk potentially without a match for his audience. He then sent Headhunter Rabbit to see if the demi-human could convince Aggresiel and Billiophia to fight in the match. Alas the sisters had business to attend to. But the offer was overheard by Regi and Shizuni of New Six Arms, seeking to spread the fame of their worker team.

In the initial negotiations, Osk was fine with the workers using the match to self-promote themselves as it would be beneficial for the audience. Though he was concerned if the two workers would be fine given their opponent was an undead dragon. Headhunter Rabbit though vouched for their strength, which was enough for the promoter. Hearing that the workers were trying to impress the emperor, he admitted that workers nowadays were vital the Empire in supporting its citizens, especially in boosting morale. Osk later served as the announcer of the match, after which he declared it to be the victory for the women of New Six Arms after they used their teamwork to defeat the Skeletal Dragon.[4]

It was reported by Lupusregina and Shizuni who were now fighters at the Grand Arena to Momonga that the promoter was collecting rare weapons and armor.[5]

Osk would then would promote the Musical Theater Comfort Troupe of the Sorcerer Kingdom at the Grand Arena, first by hosting a preliminary fight between Go Gin and Silver Thread Bird. When the idols Alkaline, Neutrally and Acidity appeared he the arranged a mock battle withe Regi and Shizuni of New Six Arms. After their performance, of singing and dancing, the popularity of the idols was so great that the promoter requested an another showing at the arena.[6]

  • (To Ainz): "How could that be? Your Majesty, do consider my body! I can wield an abacus, but I have never once swung a sword. That is just a hobby of mine. Since I was a child, I have always admired the strong, as well as swords and other weapons."
  • (To Ainz): "I love the clash of sword against sword and fist against fist. Regretfully, I have no talent for fighting skills, and all my efforts cannot win me victory. That was why I was thinking of making a warrior who could substitute for me, and have him attain victory in my place."
  • (To Headhunter Rabbit about Ainz): "Did you see his regal bearing? Whether it was in bringing only Ainzach, or agreeing to not use magic in his battle, he radiated the pride of the mighty. In addition, he's a very intelligent man. It feels like he's very used to this sort of negotiations."
  • (To Go Gin): "That's the spirit! However, do not get cocky. The Sorcerer King is the sort of man who can give away jaw-dropping weapons on a whim. In all likelihood, he possesses magic items of awesome power."
