The Paladin of the Holy Kingdom Arc[]
- Main article: The Paladin of the Holy Kingdom Arc
At the start of the Liberation of Loyts, the Bafolk used a human girl of the age of 6 or 7 to force the Holy Kingdom Liberation Army to back off from the gates, nicking her throat to show that they were making good on their threat. While Remedios Custodio and her aides argued on the justification of making sacrifices to liberate the city, the bafolk hacked her head off to show that they were serious of using their human prisoners as shield. The boy Nolan was taken out to show the human attackers that the demi-humans would continue to kill hostages until they caved into their demands.
Sorcerer King Ainz Ooal Gown then seeing that the situation needed to change, volunteered to handle the bafolk their hostage. He then proceeded to cast a fireball to destroy the gate and its defenders, kill them and the hostage to allow the Liberation Army to resume invading the city. Although Remedios call his action to be monstruous, the more sensible paladins were grateful for the undead in unraveling their hostage situation.
Alone with Neia Baraja, Ainz admitted to the squire that he could have used magic to save the boy, but had he done so it would have only showed the demi-humans that using human shields would be effective. Thus to prevent the demi-humans from exploiting this, Ainz choose to mercy kill the boy so that there would be less sacrifices in the future.
Still to show that his decision was not an easy one, Ainz chose to personally see to the body of the boy and tend to the corpse. Later the boy's father having been freed by the paladins rushed to the corpse, crying in despair. Upon seeing Ainz and hearing that he had killed him, the father demanded to know why he did so.
Instead he was questioned by the Sorcerer King on his failing in his fatherly duty to protect his son. When met with this the father argued that there was nothing he could do as the demi-humans snatched him and were too strong. In response Ainz asked by the man was still alive. In that why he did not die to protect him to his last breath. The man though argued that was because the bafolk were too strong. That only highlighted the point that the Sorcerer King was making, that fault of the boy's death and even the country falling into the hands of the demi-humans lied in the hands of the man and his fellow neighbors. In face of this truth, boy's father clutched the boy's corpse to him and fled in shame. [1]
Abilities and Powers[]
The boy was obviously weaker, given he was enslaved by the bafolk.
