- - Nigredo's Introduction
Nigredo (ニグレド) is an NPC of the Great Tomb of Nazarick, she is the older sister of Albedo and Rubedo. Nigredo was imprisoned in the "Frozen Prison," situated on the 5th Floor of Nazarick and acted as an Area Guardian. She was released at the request of Yuri Alpha to help manage the new orphanage in E-Rantel.
Nigredo has an appearance similar to Albedo's, in the sense of hair, but the similarity ends there as her face has no skin, but rather, a mass of exposed muscle.
She has beautiful eyes and teeth, but there were no lips whatsoever, only beautiful pearly teeth. There are no eyelids, only brightly shining eyes. As such, her grotesque appearance horrified all the guild members of Ainz Ooal Gown, who all immediately attacked simultaneously upon seeing her.
Though she acts insane and attacks her visitors without mercy if a baby-doll isn't given to her, Nigredo is assumed to be tender-hearted under normal conditions. She and Pestonya opposed killing innocent people kidnapped from the Re-Estize Kingdom. In addition, Nigredo had a soft spot for babies, perhaps even surpassing that of Pestonya’s. However, her compassion is limited to only that of infants. Once they live past the age of two, she sees them as nothing but sacks of meat to be disposed of.
Nigredo was only the Area Guardian of the above-ground portion of the Frozen Prison.

When looking for candidates to run the intelligence agency that is being spearheaded by Demiurge, Albedo noted how her older sister Nigredo might be a decent choice. However, seeing that Nigredo was not an ally that Albedo could trust unconditionally, she starts to think otherwise about giving her the authority to manage it. According to Albedo, if Nigredo figures out her true intentions, she felt it was entirely possible for them to become enemies in the future.
At some point before Ainz make his return back to Nazarick, Nigredo had requested her colleague Sebas to speak on her behest with their master which the butler obliged to do, considering she doesn't have permission to leave the area she was at. She and Pestonya wanted Sebas to have Ainz pay her a visit to the Frozen Prison alone where she was located in which their master agreed on doing after briefly discussing with the butler.
Once they are present, she began discussing with Ainz by offering a suggestion to her master that he should rent out more of his undead minions for agricultural purposes. She reasoned that by doing this, Nazarick would certainly have developments in the improvements of breeds of food. To back up her statement, she claims the food culture would surely blossom to the point that they can even produce food of an equal quality compared to Nazarick’s offering which Ainz approved of doing.
After the conversation shifted towards the main topic of discussion, she was the first before Pestonya to argue their cases to Ainz on why a large-scale massacre of the Re-Estize Kingdom needs to be avoided. Ainz however is adamant that the cull was deem necessary for the sake of strengthening the Sorcerer Kingdom and to make sure that human civilization could never grow too strong.
More so, he voice his concern of why Nigredo had not bother to contact her other superiors, the Floor Guardians instead of him. Seeing this, Nigredo who is an Area Guardian was viewed by Ainz to act detrimental towards Cocytus's authority as the Floor Guardian. According to Ainz, she was supposed to ask the Floor Guardian, Cocytus about this matter since she is part of his floor he manages under his rule. Although Nigredo offers her suggestions despite her position, none were convincing enough to make Ainz consider changing his decision about the massacre.
However, when Pestonya brought up the idea of letting humans escape alive as fearmongers through spreading the news of opposing the Sorcerer Kingdom to be hopeless, Ainz began considering it carefully. She along with Pestonya and Sebas were informed by their master that he will allow only 90% of the Re-Estize Kingdom's people to be wipe out while the rest will be allowed to live on. Once Ainz decides to take Pestonya's idea into consideration, she alongside the maid voice how eternally grateful they are to their master hearing them out.
Abilities and Powers
Nigredo is a Magic Caster whose power focuses mainly on information gathering. She is known as one of the few NPCs of Nazarick whose power is close to the highest level, so it can be assumed that her level is over 90.
Nigredo is loyal to Ainz and uses her surveillance skills to aid him in searching for Shalltear. Ainz decided not to kill the remaining humans kidnapped from the Re-Estize Kingdom, because Nigredo alongside Pestonya risked going against his orders to save them.
Tabula is Nigredo's creator. To him, she was the strong manifestation of his other passion: horror films.
During her first appearance and interaction with her younger sister Albedo, Nigredo was shown to greatly look up to and respect Tabula Smaragdina and refer to him in honorifics. As such it can be guessed that similarly to the other NPCs, Nigredo respects Tabula the most out of the forty-one supreme beings of Nazarick and holds her loyalty to him first and foremost.
Albedo is Nigredo's younger sister. Nigredo warned Albedo that Rubedo might bring a calamity to Nazarick, but Albedo only replied that she thinks Rubedo is an adorable younger sister and that she would never be a scourge.
Later during Albedo's inner thoughts about the development of the Sorcerer Kingdom and the future of her Secret Unit and the possible danger the new Intelligence Agency being created could breach her plans if Demiurge was placed as its leader. Albedo briefly considered recommending her elder sister as its head to further her plans, but quickly shot down the idea upon feeling that she could not full trust her unconditionally in her future plans and openly considering the probability of her sister and her becoming enemies if her plans about the secret unit is revealed to her. Showing that Albedo now harbors open mistrust and paranoia for her elder sister should she become suspicious of her true intentions.
Although she is also her younger sister, Nigredo views Rubedo as a potential threat to Nazarick as she was not made the same way.
Unlike the rest of the denizens of Nazarick, Nigredo and Pestonya opposed killing innocent people kidnapped from the Re-Estize Kingdom by Demiurge. They both went out of their way to free them though at the risk of punishment as a result of it.
Eventually due to their shared time together and similar mind-sets, Ainz assigned them both the duty of overseeing the Sorcerer Kingdom Orphanage to look after the orphaned children of E-Rantel and as such Pestonya and Nigredo have now become much closer due to their new shared assignment.

- (To Albedo about Spinel): "I extremely despise that girl, even if we are all the creations of Tabula Smaragdina-sama No, the way Spinel was created was different from the way we were. She is definitely not the type that others can open their hearts towards."
- (To Albedo about Spinel): "The way I see it, you have been deceived by her. Spinel will definitely bring a great calamity to Nazarick, I guarantee it."
- (To Albedo): "Is that so? If you the keeper of the Guardians have decided like this, then I won’t say anything more. However, I still hope that you, as keeper of the Guardians, will bear my concerns firmly in mind."
- (To Ainz): "Yes. Given the current situation, isn’t it about time that we stop massacring the citizens of the Kingdom?"
- (To Ainz): "All infants have potential, Ainz-sama."
- (To Ainz): "I see, that is true. But, isn’t the same true for dragonlings too?"
- (To Ainz): "What we had just talked about, improving the breeds of food, doesn't that apply to humans too? If we were to apply the different techniques we have in Nazarick to strengthen them, surely stronger varieties of humans could be made. Plus, a race's value isn’t just in their strength, humanity's propensity for creativity in their creations...you could call it the ability of cultural development, I believe they do have that ability. If we were to reduce their population to nothing, isn't that a great opportunity cost to Nazarick?"
