Mimic (模倣体) is a type of monster that appears in Mass for the Dead.

Appearance[]

Mimics are a unique type of Chaos Beast that are actually shapeshifters, taking the form of other beings. They are said to be physically impossible to tell from the real person, though beings born in the Sea of Possibilities can see subtle details of them being different like a sixth sense.

Abilities[]

While mimics appear to possess possess flawless shapeshifting abilities, they appear to have limited intelligence, as they can only parrot words and not use speech. They are very fragile and thus rely on tricking their victims. So far it has yet to be determined if they mimics can replicate the abilities of those they impersonate.

Oddly enough unlike normal Chaos Beasts, which can be detected through Divine Right, these monsters do not give of any strange presence. Due to this Demiurge wonders if perhaps this is because Mimics are of the same nature as the components in the Crack.

According to Aggresiel and Billiophia, they believe the Mimic is possibly a byproduct of the "Calamity of Cracks" that occurred in E-Rantel, in where multiple Cracks or Womb Corridors opened up and sucked hundreds of people. According to them as more things pass through the Crack in a given period of time, the anomalies experience distortions, and experience a phenomena called defragmentation which leads to the copies of the victims who were taken into the Crack.

And while rescuing the victims of the Crack, bringing them out of the anomaly won't stop the birth of the Mimics, its suspected that the Mimics are spawned in a specific area of the Womb Corridor which needs to be eliminated to prevent the spread of these monsters.

The real origin of the Mimics are revealed to be the direct result of Remnant, a mineral which could grant wishes within the Chaos Zone or Womb Corridor. The root of it all being strong desires. Of the Mimics that appeared being Nigun Grid Luin, Leinas Rockbruise, and Brain Unglaus they are all what humans could call heroes of the Theocracy, the Empire, and the Kingdom. Those who wished for them were the people who were abducted into the Womb Corridor. In other words, the thoughts of the many "humans" trapped within the Crack, seeking salvation, may have led to the Mimics arising. A similar case would be Shiramochi-ō, who manifested through the wish of unknown creators and attacked Nazarick at a specific time.

Still, according to the Mercenary Knights the Mimics are the first case they've seen where Remnants reacted without even being touched. Thus leads to a question if activation of a Remnant's wishing power is a matter of numbers, or the level of urgency.

Additionally the abilities and actions of the Mimics who have the appearances of these many heroes were somewhat lacking. Which suggests that the wishes from Remnant could copy the was the general appearance of the heroes and grant them primitive speaking abilities. But it seems that if the thoughts of many people are at work, then perhaps the psychology of those who fear heroes, such as criminals, is also at work.[1]
