Memory of Chaos: Sebas Tian

Memory of Chaos: Sebas Tian was a character scenario released in Mass for the Dead, featuring the character Sebas Tian.

Episode 1: The Beginning Of The Day

The Great Tomb of Nazarick, having been attacked by a mysterious enemy, led the Pleiades, minus Narberal Gamma, to attend a meeting early in the morning hosted by Sebas Tian. In addition to inspecting the people and equipment, the butler reminds them that the group should engage in Crack monitoring work and deal with any problems. After that, is finished, when they have time, they should use this chance to do a mock battle. Additionally, they should clean all floors and assist the Floor Guardians as the number of general maids is not still not enough to clean the damage on the floors.

And most importantly, he emphasizes that the maids show the spirit of "hospitality." The Pleiades are also told that if they receive a separate order from Momonga or the Guardians, they should treat it with the highest priority. As for any unexpected situations, they are to report it immediately given the state of emergency the dungeon is currently facing.

The butler then uses a mantra he learned from Lupusregina Beta "Ho-Ren-So," underlining what they should do if they encounter anything unexpected. From reporting the situation calmly, contacting their superiors and consulting with others before making any arbitrary decisions. The maids are not alone in this ordeal and he expects them to work as a team which is important so that they can perfectly cooperate with each other on missions. In the current situation while it's true that they have to do more work than before, they should try accommodating their time and skills to show off their abilities as maids for the glory of Supreme One and Great Tomb of Nazarick. That being all for his meeting, Sebas Tian splits the Pleiades off into two groups, one in which is that Entoma Vasilissa Zeta, CZ2128 Delta, and Solution Epsilon are excused to return to their duties to begin cleaning the floor. However, Yuri Alpha and Lupusregina Beta are pulled aside by the butler.

As Sebas Tian mentioned a little earlier, there are a wide variety of tasks that must be done. Sebas Tian tells them that his original plan on splitting the maids into two groups was for the convenience of handing, but since one of the groups is composed of only a duo due to scheduling, he intends to divide the groups based on the balance between the amount of work and everyone's abilities. He wants to know their opinions, asking if having only two people is sufficient. In Yuri's opinion, while there is certainly many things to do, she feels that it is their duty to work for Nazarick and thus believes that the two can manage even if there is some difficulty. Sebas Tian is more than willing to oblige her, but reminds Yuri that not everyone else can keep up with her pace. But Yuri states it will be no issue. He then turns to Lupusregina for her input who declares that she will do her best. Still, Sebas Tian apologizes for the work load as it must be troublesome nonetheless. The two maids however insist he not worry as they prefer to keep busy. Though Sebas Tian was relieved to hear those words and while it seems to be tedious to him, he asks them let him know of any issues as soon as possible. Despite their concerns, Sebas Tian is still a little worried about their tasks and the possibility that some things might be neglected. However realizing that if he kept helping them carelessly, it could stunt their growth which would be against Momonga's order to not to interfere and only observe.

On the next topic, Sebas Tian directs his attention to Lupusregina again, as he wanted to confirm one more thing. First of all, there will be a defense meeting held by both Albedo and Demiurge scheduled for today. The maid that will be on standby will be Lupusregina. Lupusregina admits that she will be observing the meeting between the two Guardians who will be discussing the dungeon's defense and expects it will be a heated one. She thinks Sebas Tian does not want her not to get involved in the talk and to not disturb the flow of discussion. Sebas Tian states that to be correct, but also something else he expects. Unsure what he is referring, Yuri states that Lupusregina is expected to serve hospitality and comfort to the two Floor Guardians as per her duty as a maid.

While these things are overlooked in such emergencies, Sebas Tian feels that right now several members of their home need some peace to allow themselves to heal from the trauma. Like with Shizu who was given a pet Spear Needle by Momonga to assist her in he mental recovery, the same applies to Albedo and Demiurge as well. No matter how talented they are, they have never faced such an emergency in Nazarick. And while they pretend to be calm, there must be some inner turmoil in their hearts but are probably disguising it so as not inconvenience Momonga.

In other words, it may be necessary to help others who had been revived to regain their mental stability as part of Nazarick's reconstruction project. Lupusregina, understanding her role has importance, responds that she will show the two her abilities as the best serving maid. Yuri curious asks if the other maid can demonstrate this. Lupusregina boasts that she knows a thing about serving tea, as she watched the Supreme Beings during their tea sessions so she plans on replicating the act with the Guardians. The idea is praised by Sebas Tian to be a good idea as it might produce a positive effect on the Floor Guardians' hearts. Lupusregina recalling the fragrant tea poured into a neat cup to colorful cakes lined up on a stand, is adamant that the display will heal Albedo and Demiurge of their worries. If she needs help, Yuri offers to assist her, but Lupusregina tells her that she will be fine and asks Yuri if there is anything that she needs to be done.

Taking her word, Yuri informs the butler and the other maid that the protagonist will be returning temporarily to the dungeon soon and it would be best to greet him when he arrives. Additionally, she has a mission to remove the roof tiles that she has been planning to do for some time. Seeing that her mission to attend to the Floor Guardians takes precedence, Lupusregina tries to excuse herself, feeling that the protagonist will forgive her for not being present on his return. Though she is convinced to stay by butler who asks her to prioritize his welcome since the homunculus is like family to them. Sebas Tian also has something for Lupusregina to consider when she is serving the Floor Guardians on her shift in that she should think about doing her best which the maid agrees that she will. That being said, the two maids then resume their work to clean the floor.

Episode 2: Payment

When the sun shines overhead outside Nazarick——Sebas, who was standing by Momonga, gently left his seat and headed to the kitchen so as not to disturb his master's train of thoughts. Elsewhere, on the 9th Floor, Lupusregina is pushing a trolley complete with a tea pot and cakes for her charges in Albedo and Demiurge's defense strategy meeting. While humming to herself, she gets a surprises encounter with Sebas Tian who is pleased to see her hard at work.

Lupusregina seeing him present asks him to quiz her to see if she is ready for her task. Giving into her persistence, she asks her the reason for serving tea at the meeting. The maid states that while serving tea to two people who are not thirsty can be a nuisance, it's a terrible wasteful act for two rational people since it is like an offering to have a relaxing moment, or something. If the meaning of serving is hospitality and healing, then serving tea is an extension of that. Her answer is deemed acceptable by Sebas Tian. Lupusregina grinning at her success then as Sebas Tian if he came all the way down from Momonga's side to see her. It was actually her humming that drew Sebas Tian's attention while he was walking over to her side. Lupusregina apologizes thinking it was distracting, but Sebas Tian states that it shows she is taking her role as a waitperson with a heart, since tea prepared with a cheerful feeling will surely brighten the feelings of the drinker and displays the important spirit of "hospitality". Believing that she should get back on track with doing her task, Lupusregina and Sebas Tian separate.

In a room on the 9th Floor, both Albedo and Demiurge are debating on a defense plan for the dungeon. Demiurge believes that they are dealing with a devious enemy as it has refrained from launching a second attack on Nazarick. Though Albedo believes that the lack of a second attack does not necessarily mean intelligence, as it could be that the enemy is unaware of its victims' resurrections. If the enemy learned that they were still alive, it would have sent another attack on them by now. Demiurge thinks that Albedo is suggesting that the enemy is careless, but still thinks that they should be wary as the enemy once overtook them and might try so again. The Overseer Guardian unfortunately notes that there is a shortage of resources. It also would not hurt to have more evidence that there is an enemy, as then their strategy can be narrowed down more efficiently.

Demiurge decides that it would be best to stop looking backwards as natural disasters and other transcendental events are not on the agenda today. They have too many theories and are stumped so they should try to do their best to lighten their master's efforts as much as possible. Before they can continue any further than necessary, Lupusregina comes in while apologizing for the interruption during an important discussion between the two. Albedo thinks she came just in the nick of time as she and Demiurge could use a distraction. Lupusregina offers the two cups of tea for the two. After pouring them, Lupusregina departs but promises to be back to refill their cups when they are done.

Demiurge muses to Albedo that she liked tea, recalling that she held a lot of tea parties before. Albedo caught up in the scent of her cup savors the black tea, and remembers a time when she, Shalltear and Aura used to gather together before the abominable Crack appeared. Noticing that her passion in her eyes returned, Albedo and Demiurge decide to resume their work to continue to rebuild Nazarick.

After finishing waiting for both Floor Guardians, Lupusregina who left the room suddenly noticed "an hourglass" placed on the cart. Wondering how it got there, she surmises that Sebas Tian likely put it at that spot when they met up. Meanwhile, at that time, Sebas while preparing a new pot of hot water, noting that Lupusregina failed to notice the hourglass he placed on the trolley. He had been testing her in his goal to eliminate the mistakes of the Pleiades, so he adjusted the arrangement of the tea set for the better.

Episode 3: Deputy Assistant Diplomat

Before Momonga, the supreme ruler of Nazarick, the protagonist kneels upon his master's return from the outside world. After listening to the homunculus's report, Momonga notes that the protagonist's actions in making a name for himself and becoming an adventurer was reasonably logical. Thanking the protagonist for his loyalty, Momonga turns to Sebas Tian who he gives his input on the report of the protagonist's information. Momonga want it scrutinize by Albedo. At the moment, she appears to be occupied with her meeting with Demiurge. Sebas Tian asks if he should fetch her, but Momonga decides not as it can wait and retires to his chambers.

Both the protagonist and Sebas Tian are left alone together in private. Before the protagonist can speak, Sebas Tian tells his work is much appreciated and asks if he will be taking a break. The homunculus states that he wishes to return to the library so he can read some of the books there to prepare for his next mission. Seeing his enthusiasm, Sebas Tian tells the protagonist not to overdo working too hard. Before the homunculus leaves, he thanks the butler for welcoming him back, which Sebas Tian states that it's normal to welcome those he considers a family to him back to their home.

The butler walking through the corridors comments to himself that the survey of the outside world is proceeding accordingly. Going by the reports from Narberal Gamma, the influence of the Cracks is also starting to appear from outside Nazarick. Though he wonders if the protagonist's plan in making a name for himself and gaining trust of those in power is acceptable as a person like the protagonist would still need some background. But since the homunculus stays in the Ashurbanipal, he is probably using the knowledge to his advantage.

Yuri approaches the butler directly, reporting that she welcomed the protagonist back to the dungeon. Sebas Tian thanks Yuri for her hard work and ask how the the tile removal work finish smoothly. The maid reports that she was able to finish everything she could do within the set work time without any problems whatsoever. Yuri then politely excuses herself. As the maid leaves, Sebas Tian notices that she was carrying a jug of water, a hot towel and dirty clothes as part of showing the protagonist hospitality and is glad she is displaying the characteristics of a professional maid.

After Yuri left, he notes that a small petal fell from the tray. Picking it up, he deduces that it was from a flower that was stuck to the dirty clothes of protagonist's which Yuri was carrying away. While it's a small flower, he finds it beautiful and an idea blooms in his mind. Back in Ashurbanipal, the protagonist was busy reading his books when he gets a visit from Entoma. She was told by Sebas that he needed some help in locating a book and offers to help organize the books for him by using her insect summons.

The protagonist is grateful for the help, though Entoma explains it's for her studies in "upper class manners" that was recommended by Sebas. While the help from Entoma is appreciated, the protagonist is already comfortable with the help from his assistant Slimeko. He then wonders on Sebas Tian's motive for sending Entoma to the library. Eventually, he sees that the butler sent Entoma to help him grow as to teach him manners and etiquette since he mentioned to Momonga that he would be meeting people in power as part of his role as a new adventurer.

Episode 4: In The Flower Field

On the 6th Floor, Shizu is in charge of monitoring Crack, though her attention is locked on the fluffy beasts on the floor. When she tried to approach one, Sebas Tian calls out to her in greeting and to inform her that he came to tell her that she has been replace by Solution for the monitoring shift. Shizu asks why the sudden change of schedule. Sebas Tian actually has a new mission for her, which involves his plan in decorating a certain place with floors. Therefore, he wants Shizu to find and gather some of the flowers that are blooming in the forest. Shizu is unsure at her ability to find pretty flowers, though the butler reasons that she can do it. After all since she has eyes for cute beasts, why not flowers as well?

Hearing his sound reasoning, Shizu complies and heads into the forest to start her mission. To make sure that it is alright, she first goes to seek out the Floor Guardian Mare Bello Fiore. Finding the elf, the maid then explains that she is collecting flowers and asks for his permission, but Mare already knows about that matter since Sebas Tian had requested his permission before he did. Mare then takes Shizu to a spot where there are lots of flowers to pick from. Once the maid has the flowers, she thanks the elf and inquires what he was doing before he helped her. The Floor Guardian explains that he was busy clearing a field that Momonga ordered to be made so that the dungeon could be self-sufficient in food. Shizu seeing that she took his time from his work, offers to assist him. The elf though states that it is alright as he will take care of his task. Once Mare saw Shizu off, he then runs in the opposite direction to return to his field where he finds a surprise waiting for him.

Episode 5: Daily Colors

Mare, returning to the field is amazed to find that its already been properly cultivated. Last time, Mare was at the field where he only did half of the work and wonders who could have done it.

Aura, with Sebas Tian finds is strange that he is guarding the Crack on her floor as it should be Shizu who is suppose to be on duty. The elf asks if something happened, though Sebas states that he just wanted a little work and sent Shizu to collect flowers much to her confusion. Sebas Tian asks her if there is something wrong about his decision, Aura tells him no as she trusts Sebas Tian. Before leaving. the elf notices that the butler's shoes are apparently dirty, but the latter does not go any further and maintains a smile on his face.

Much later, Momonga heads over to the Round Table Room while thinking about his upcoming schedule. Opening the door to the room, he find Sebas Tian waiting for him ahead. The butler having come early, Momonga tries to get him to rest until the stipulated time, but is declined by Sebas Tian as it is his duty to serve the master and obey his orders at all times.

Momonga soon notices the colorful flowers around the room and sees that it was decorated by Sebas Tian. As Sebas Tian pulls a chair for Momonga, the undead take a moment to view the sight of full bloomed red flowers. The sight causes him to see how beautiful it is and how he has calmed down and forgotten his worries.
