Memory of Chaos: Nigun Grid Luin was a character scenario released in Mass for the Dead, featuring the character Nigun Grid Luin.[1]

Episode 1: Nigun's Answer[]

Nigun Grid Luin, the captain of the Sunlight Scripture, was given a directive to begin reconstruction support for the fortress city E-Rantel in the Re-Estize Kingdom. Reading at his orders, which call to join hands with the other neighboring kingdom is struggling to come to terms with cooperating with what he call nations of heathens that harbor demi-humans. He tries to tell himself that it is a test from god but even still finds it to be a joke as the thought of cooperating with non-humans is blasphemy. Though alone in his office, Nigun realizes that his behavior is unprofessional. Nigun briefly wonders if his orders are wrong, but considers his superiors' position on the matter and realizes that he soon will come to their perspective who are dealing with the damage caused to the Slane Theocracy by the Chaos Beasts and Contaminated Beasts. With the appearance of "new enemies," Nigun sees that his superiors are merely trading with working with "old enemies" to handle the crisis. Initially thinking that this arrangement would only be temporary, Nigun banishes the thought as he soon has an epiphany that this is indeed a trial from the gods set out for him to do. If humanity were to have any chance to survive, it would only be through unity in order for them to overcome the new foes they now faced.

Nigun later gathers his men that will be sent to E-Rantel and gives a speech that they were given a prestigious mission. And while many of their mission were to show humanity's superiority over all races and were chosen by the gods, he warns them that their new orders may have difficulty in reconciling their beliefs. He explains that the Theocracy has entered into a Tripartite Agreement with both the Baharuth Empire and Re-Estize Kingdom. While these two nations have different faiths from their own country, the Theocracy will now be working together alongside them in an alliance. Furthermore, many other races may have been displaced and have relocated to the center of the three countries at E-Rantel. The news shocks the gathered priests, but Nigun seeing that this disaster was an opportunity not only to teach the true faith but to also unite with the other human nations as well, and on top of that, acquire the strength to use even different races and overcome their hardships.

Nigun encourages them not to fall into despair as even though the world has been broken and Theocracy's lands have been razed by the disaster, this is all within their god's plan as it is a test for them to show the world which race is superior over the other. Though the priests in assembly still couldn't hide their anxiety behind their eyes, they took comfort in that this was God's test given to them and in response to Nigun's speech, the priests of the Scripture raised their fists in the air.

After the meeting, Nigun's second in command, Ian Als Heim remains behind to speak with him privately. Ian questions Nigun if their Scripture should be given to them as there is anxiety spreading amongst their men as they felt somewhat conflicted about this sudden arrangement, as they and Ian consider the Kingdom and Empire to be corrupt nations whom are ignorant of the teachings of the gods. Nigun understands their reservations but there is an urgency to have a common ground with the other two nations. Nigun refrains from giving Ian his epiphany as he wishes for his comrade to see for himself the "truth" through his journey of discovery. Nigun then commands Ian to take charge of the mission to E-Rantel and establish a base, confident that his subordinate would meet expected results.

Episode 2: Local Baptism[]

Upon arriving at E-Rantel, the Sunlight Scripture immediately set about to carry out their mission. Nigun who was set to negotiate with the other representatives of the Tripartite Agreement, spoke with Ian and learned of the level of distrust that the locals have for the Theocracy. While Nigun thinks this to be normal given the history with the pagan kingdom and his home country, he is surprised when Ian mentions that the imperial knights from the Empire are seen in more favorable light than they are. An oddity, considering the Kingdom and Empire's annual wars with each other and the amount of bloodshed between them. He takes it to be none other than the results of the two nations working together prior to the Scripture arriving at the city. Nigun tells Ian that they should just continue to hope that their own efforts will soften the residents' feelings toward them. Ian asks him if this is also part of their "trial", which causes Nigun to be grateful that he needs not to explain it to his second in command on how serious their mission is to their nation but all of humanity.

The two head back to their temporary headquarters of the city, and Nigun learns from Ian that he healed a half-elf child. He listened to Ian's experience of how the mother was apprehensive of his action, though in contrast the boy was grateful of his help and even listen to some words of his faith. Ian felt that it was part of their god's trials. Nigun is not too sure considering elves were the people who betrayed his nation, but keeps that thought to himself as he wants to continue the effort in improving the relationship with the people of the city and hopefully achieve unity. He thinks Ian has not realized the "answer" from the gods but is on the right path.

Episode 3: VS Imperial Knight[]

A day after his arrival, Nigun meets with the other representatives from the other countries that have all gathered in a room at the Adventurer's Guild. Nigun makes a request to Pluton Ainzach for additional forces from the city to accompany his Scripture who are in charge of actively hunting Chaos Beasts and Contaminated Beasts before they harm the city. He cites that while his men are warriors and are well experienced in subjugating monsters, more support should be included for any exceptional cases. The guildmaster admits his request is not unreasonable, though to patrol the outer circumference of the city would still require a tremendous amount of manpower to assist them. Nigun asks what of the knights of Empire, which he is told are busy doing reconstruction work in the city and helping refugees. This only further confuses Nigun as healing is a specialty of his unit as well, wondering why they were not assigned this. Nimble Arc Dale Anoch, the Empire's representative, take a moment to speak on this matter. Nigun recognizing him as one of the Four Imperial Knights and known as the "Fierce Gale" allows the knight to speak. Nimble explains that when the knights of the Empire first came to the city, they were met with wariness due to the bloody history their nations shared. Nigun states that to be due, though the Theocracy's history with the Kingdom is not better. Though he wonders why the change in attitude and asks if there was human mind grasping technique employed. Ainzach states that not to be the case as the Empire's knights have employed themselves in dangerous missions for the city before Nigun's men arrived. The people's perception on the knights, thus changed in a more positive light after seeing them risk their lives over their own well-being even though it was little over a year when their nations were fighting against each other.

Nigun seeing that this to be the cause of the trust in the city's inhabitants to the Empire's forces, wishes to also achieve this and lessen the obstacles for unity among the nations. He tells the two leaders that he wishes to continue this kind of level of cooperation between nations, and feels that they need to continue showing it to their subordinates who are still reluctant to cooperate with other countries in order to strengthen the unity of the alliance. Nimble impressed with his foresight of the future for the Tripartite Alliance comments on his negotiations skill and agrees to have the Sunlight Scripture to operate outside the city, on the condition that the Imperial Knights join, on the basis that regular soldiers of the Kingdom were not suited outside the defense of the walls. Nigun has no objections, though he senses there might be an ulterior motive for Nimble to keep the Kingdom's forces within the city and decides to keep an eye on the "Fierce Gale".

Episode 4: Outcome[]

Later at the Sunlight Scripture headquarters, Nigun finds Ian training with several priests. Seeing the intensity of his subordinate's training, he has a word with Ian and asks if there is anything bothering him. Ian admits that he experience a sense of inadequacy while on patrol after having met up with someone as Leinas Rockbruise "Heavy Bomb" who is another member of the Four Imperial Knights. He was shocked by the level of her power she displayed and made him realize that in order to overcome the teachings of God, the first thing he needed was the "power" to realize their Scripture's faith. All in order to spread God's teachings to people to protect them from external threats.

Nigun sees that Ian has found his own "answer", though different from his own, he does see the logic of gaining "power" as it is not only useful in battle but also in negotiations as well. He is pleased that Ian is training to gain credibility quickly, but decides to help him by sparring in a one on one match between them so that Ian can gain the "power" to overcome God's trials. After their duel, Nigun reminds Ian to never forget his devotion to his goal. Leaving, Nigun muses that not only faith could drive a person but also by mere "power" too. The determination of Ian convinces Nigun not to lose and vows to continue to devote himself to his own truth.

Episode 5: After Bitterness[]

News of a monster attack on the village of Carne reaches the representatives of the Alliance and a meeting was held in response to the urgent news brought to E-Rantel. The representative Nimble and Ainzach agree that an investigation team must be sent out to investigate the matter, as left unchecked the monster attack could spread to the city. But a question arises on who they should send for this kind of mission. Nigun uses this opportunity to form a three-country joint team. Ainzach agrees that they should form one though has doubts on the skill of the Kingdom's soldiers and whereas there is not enough time to select adventurers. Nimble advises that they should keep it at a two nation team. However, they should also address the defenses around E-Rantel in preparation of a possible attack. Nigun reminds the two that the knights of the Empire rely on their formation in battle, thus a forested area would hinder their forces, hence feels that his Scripture would be better off suited to handle the task of investigating. Seeing that they are the only force qualified, Nigun effectively volunteers his own men to go do that, though he loathes doing so as he does not wish to allow his men to die in vain meaninglessly. His motivations are doing his duty as a member of the Theocracy, as one who should guide and protect.

Nigun quickly leaves the meeting to inform his men of the current situation. Ian listening, volunteers to lead and undertake the mission with several members of the Scripture to Carne Village. Nigun is stunned at his subordinate's willingness to go on a dangerous mission, as he would go himself, but believes his place is at E-Rantel to coordinate with the other nations. Having no choice but to accept, he gives Ian his approval. Just as Ian is about to leave to organize his men, Nigun shares some words with his second in command before they part ways. Nigun admits that humans are weak as a race, but in that weakness they find strength to come together and unite as one to tackle threats. Ian solemnly tells him he knows as Nigun adds on that facing that weakness will enable him to live up to the will of God. Ian then tells his captain that he will protect the men entrusted to him and return from his mission which Nigun will hold him onto that promise.
