Full Summary[]
Episode 1: Interlude - Inspection of the Current Situation[]
The Cracks that corrodes the world. It exists no matter where you are, as if it goes beyond the laws of the world, and is a troublesome thing that humanity cannot eliminate. And then there's the miasma that pollutes living things, erupting from the Cracks, and violent creatures called Chaos Beasts appear. Among these are things that should not be disturbed....
This does not apply to two Pleiades, Narberal Gamma and Solution Epsilon in the Chaos Zone, performing a new experiment for the Sorcerer Kingdom. The two women are battling and performing various. Narberal pauses to inform her sister that it's almost time for their scheduled meeting. But besides that, asks Solution on her performance, which the other maid states that the new adaptive equipment has no problems in durability and movement is much smoother possibly due to weight reduction.
Narberal agrees that the equipment is now much easier to move in, compared to the old version. Other than that the black-hair maid comments that the area where they are training in is so quiet. Solution adds that inside the Crack, she had scouted other places, but most of them were of landscapes she had seen somewhere before, all strangely connected. And yet the scene now is like it is quiet as the bottom of the ocean. Before they can discuss about the location, the sound of a woman's voice alerts them, signaling them that it is time to leave the area.
In the Great Forest of Tob, a Death Knight, Hamsuke and Kyuko stand guard at the Crack, for any Chaos Beasts. they stand down when the two Pleiades emerge from it. Solution then approaches Aura Bella Fiora, thanking the dark elf for letting her borrow her precious watch as both she and Narberal found it very comforting while on the other side.
Happy things went well, Aura declares they did a good job and that the experiment ended successfully. Anyway, she is glad they enjoyed using the watch as Momonga kindly lent it to them all. Aura still wants to know how the new equipment fared, and wants to know if they have anything good to report to Demiurge.
Narberal feels that this time around was one of the most satisfying experiences she had in the past few times. To explain, Solution tells Aura that the improved Chaos Adaptive Equipment is lighter in weight, has an extended usage time limit, and all other aspects appear to be better than expected. Aura hearing this hope that next time, she will have the protagonist join her in training and take a closer look at the equipment. As Solution believes that to be a correct course of action, Hamsuke comments that the protagonist is still as busy as ever. At the mention of the protagonist, Kyuko notices that the homunculus has been around lately and asks where he is at the moment.
Aura states that the protagonist is supposed to be traveling by carriage from E-Rantel, probably having left the Katze Plains by now, explaining he is on an inspection tour of the Baharuth Empire accompanying Albedo as part of a delegation from the Quadripartite Alliance. It sounds difficult to the fox girl. Though Narberal states that they should be happy since E-Rantel has become the starting point for the complete transformation of human nations into puppet states.
Adding to that Solution states that since the disaster in the past, many people have been trapped inside the Cracks. Any living thing that enters a Crack remains in a state of suspended animation, so to speak. The same thing would happen if they just entered the Crack normally as Aura pointed out, hence why they need Chaos Adaptive Equipment. The only way to carry out rescue operations is to borrow equipment from the Sorcerer Kingdom. Now understanding, Kyuko sees that's why people from every country are desperately trying to curry favor with the protagonist and Albedo. On that end, she looks forward to hearing good news from his business trip to the Empire. The gathering then concludes, with Aura heading back to Nazarick with the Pleiades, leaving her subordinates in charge of guarding the Great Forest of Tob.
The contamination by miasma, attacks by Chaos Beasts, strange phenomena that kidnapped people...several months have passed since the clandestine defeat of Enhela, a follower of the Kuyō who was believed to have caused these situations. The Cracks that brought disaster all over the world----the scars that were torn into space continue to smolder all over the world, undiminished to this day.
——The Quadripartite Alliance consisting of the Re-Estize Kingdom, the Baharuth Empire, the Slane Theocracy, and the Sorcerer Kingdom had come to largely align themselves with each other, due to the fact that they all shared the same wounds.
Speaking of which, a carriage is seen being escorted by riders through the Katze Plains. One of the riders, being Leinas knocked on the door to be allowed entry.
Emperor Jircniv permits her to enter, which she does climbing into the carriage whilst it is riding at full speed. She has news for everyone in the carriage that they will soon be entering Imperial territory without any problems on the Katze Plains and that they should reach their destination in just a few hours.
On a matter from the emperor, such as if there are there any suspicious people, the knight reports that they are not within the surveillance network range. The emperor thanks her for her hard work and asks her to continue leading the escort, and to work closely with the guards from the other countries. The knight then exits the carriage, allowing the occupants to converse among themselves.
Present is King Zanac, who comments that it has become a regular occurrence for them, Emperor Jircniv, Prime Minister Albedo, the protagonist and Surako, to travel around like this. Since then, the movements of the escort corps seem to have become more sophisticated. According to Jircniv, it was originally a suggestion from Albedo. The idea was for representatives from each country to inspect the state of reconstruction together and quickly share information to facilitate mutual cooperation and speed up the reconstruction process.
Albedo in a resplendent dress chuckles, happy she could participate too. However she expresses that it is unfortunate that a person from the Slane Theocracy couldn't make it. Still, Zanac points out that the Theocracy they did participate last time, and it seems the Sunlight Scripture is taking the lead in defending E-Rantel.
The protagonist also mentions that the Sorcerer Kingdom deployed additional undead to guard the Cracks within E-Rantel, but the same goes for the doctrinal inconveniences of that situation. Surako hopes that that everyone, including the demi-humans, will be tolerant in the meantime. Albedo aware that this Surako is a doppelganger, finds the imposter's attitude a little stiff. But decides it's a good enough disguise, and in any case, it would be helpful if she was there as a liaison.
On the topic of the missing representative from the Theocracy, Jircniv replies that Cardinal Raymond also sent him a letter of apology for not attending this time. Additionally, it appears that Enhela, the Deputy Pontifex Maximus, is very busy and he cannot leave his home country to help here. The letter also carefully restates that they agree with and understand the Sorcerer Kingdom's proposal...and it seems they want to avoid any unnecessary misunderstandings. The protagonist, privately is not so sure about the situation with the Theocracy. As he destroyed Enhela with my own hand, and yet his associates in his homeland keep claiming he is too busy to show his face to the public. So, the homunculus wonders how much the Theocracy side knows about Enhela's death.
Albedo expresses to her peer that she is relieved to hear that the Sorcerer Kingdom isn't disliked, adding that the Theocracy seems to be quite busy as well. In Albedo's mental dialogue, its revealed that the joint inspection was a way to provide effective assistance according to the damage situation in each area - in other words, it was a plan she came up with to quickly get the Sorcerer Kingdom to intervene. Even if it's only on the surface, it's a good sign that the Theocracy has shown its gratitude to them so it's a pleasant surprise.
The young king of the Re-Estize Kingdom, feels that just informing the public of the situation in E-Rantel would be a big deal for the Theocracy. But worries how can they explain to them that there is a place where the undead and humans coexist and thrive together? Jircniv admits that it's an incredible miracle and feat, even to see it with his own eyes. This is all thanks to the efforts of the people of the Sorcerer Kingdom, and above all, to the protagonist, the protector of E-Rantel territory...!
The emperor wanted to do his bit to live up to that great achievement, so he volunteered to be the guide for the restoration measures that have been so well received in the Empire. It's something that probably doesn't exist in other countries.
Zanac is glad to see that the Empire's recovery is going well, as he heard that the damage caused by the miasma there was also quite severe. That much is true by the emperor, describing it as terrible, with many of his citizens becoming violent due to the contamination, and killed those who had escaped it...however, the people of the Sorcerer Kingdom are currently working on removing the contamination. Regarding that matter, the protagonist would like to apologize for keeping many people from various countries waiting as the decontamination requires special skills and is therefore somewhat dangerous.
Jircniv finds that there's no need to apologize, as he is well aware that this technology is equivalent to a state secret of the Sorcerer Kingdom. Moreover, removing the miasma contamination will allow them to secure new fighting forces so no one will be so sarcastic as to complain. Zanac agrees, finding it was also fortunate that the bodies of those who had been cleansed of the miasma contamination were significantly strengthened, like that of the infamous Gazef Stronoff. Not only that the policy of entrusting them with the extermination of the remaining Chaos Beasts within the Kingdom seems to have been more successful than expected. Although, there are some who view those who have gained power as dangerous.
To Albedo, it seems that those who have no power are more of a problem than those who have it, finding quite difficult to control people's hearts. This is affirmed by Jircniv, and though the Empire is taking measures, there are bound to be some things that get missed.
Zanac senses that there is something bothering Jircniv, and asks him to share. The emperor though is just distracted by a report from the workers, to which the information is not very reliable. They said they saw some adventurers and out-of-place soldiers on the Katze Plains. The information makes the protagonist curious, wondering if they are contaminated people wandering around outside the city, or are they rational people? To the protagonist brings to mind when Leinas made her report earlier on any suspicious activity in the area. Indeed, if they could discover these suspicious people while allied nations are on board, they would be able to determine their authenticity without becoming suspicious of each other. Well, assuming that this isn't a plot by anyone from an allied nation.
Zanac says that if that is the case, that would be troublesome. That it would be certainly possible that there are people plotting to take advantage of the chaos in the world, like the remnants of Zurrernorn, or perhaps someone from another faction. The thought though makes Albedo to say it's so sad as now is the time for all of humanity to join forces. The same sentiment is shared by Jircniv as he hopes they can be rid of this plague on humanity as soon as possible.
Those words bring to the protagonist's mind one specific person: Enhela, who is perfectly described as the evil sore of mankind who he defeated. And also the words of the being he heard: "How beautiful mankind is! 0 brave new world." All point to one particular being. According to Momonga they belong to the "Devourer of the Nine Worlds" and since then Nazarick has been investigating the Sea of Possibilities within that entity's territory. Currently, Demiurge is rushing to improve the Chaos Adaptive Equipment. And he as Territory Guardian should be cooperating more since he can move freely within his constraints, but...it's difficult because they can't neglect diplomacy.
While everyone was pondering their options, the carriage carrying the dignitaries from each nation arrived at its destination...Arwintar. The carriage slows down and a troop of knights from the Baharuth Empire, alongside soldiers of the Re-Estize Kingdom, Skeleton Warriors of the Sorcerer Kingdom, and even members of the Four Imperial Knights, like Leinas, Nimble and Baziwood stand at the ready.
Jircniv stepping out of the carriage, informs his peers that they had arrived at a property he'd like them to see today. One operated as a national policy by the Baharuth Empire, and serves as a place to boost the morale of their subjects. It is revealed as the Grand Arena, which the protagonist sees as the pride of the Baharuth Empire, the national arena that His Majesty put a lot of effort into.
The emperor tells his peers that they have been checking the damage situation in various places and the response to the existing Cracks, so he thought it was about time for something to cleanse their palate. Zanac having felt instantly healed after hearing the vitality of the people find this pleasing. Albedo understands that this is what Jircniv brough them for to brag about.
Seeing that he has been seen through, Jircniv adds that he never had the chance to show them around the Empire before, so he's a little excited and invites the protagonist to come and see. The Territory Guardian of E-Rantel, finds the arena magnificent. Not only that, but the streets and markets are also very lively. He had read reports from Lupusregina and CZ about the places, but going here in person was a completely different experience. Speaking of the two Pleiades, the protagonist spots the pair in the worker identities as they had planned.
The delegation walks through the thriving marketplace, with Albedo admiring the scene. They reach the Grand Arena with the protagonist I'm happy to have had the chance to see it for himself. This pleases Jircniv as he is about to show his friend his VIP Suite. Though as the protagonist approaches, he stumbles, feeling his heart beat heavy. This moment of fatigue worries Surako as well as Jircniv. Though the protagonist states that it is nothing as he was a bit overwhelmed by the grandeur of the arena.
This is a lie; in truth the protagonist just felt a "presence" but does not know what it means. Before he can think on this, some people are running from the entrance of the arena calling out to the emperor. They are revealed to be a man and Rabbit Man. The man greets the emperor though he confesses he did not expect a sudden visit, adding that if he had known beforehand, he would have come to greet him earlier.
To Jircniv it was valuable for the inspection team to see how the merchant behaves on a daily basis, so asked for his forgiveness. In any case the man welcomes them, greeting him as Osk a humble merchant who has a good relationship with the emperor and the promoter of the arena. The greeting is sufficient for Jircniv. But more importantly, he asks for him and his guests to be shown their seats as if they stay out in the open too long, they'll arouse too much interest among his subjects. Osk agrees and guides the group to the VIP Suite, leaving security to Headhunter Rabbit.
Following Osk, the group entered Jircniv's reserved viewing area, settled down, and immediately after showing interest in what was going on inside the room, a particularly loud cheer rang out from the packed spectators below. King Zanac notes the incredible pressure of all the cheers in the room. Even Albedo finds the seats to be special. The emperor feels that the citizens seem more excited than usual today. He asks Osk what game is this taking place. The merchant explains it is the last day of the Martial Lord's comeback match, adding that the Martial Lord is almost back to full form, and the crowd is cheering him on with warmth and enthusiasm. Out in the arena Go Gin is fighting against what appears to be a Skeletal Dragon.
Jircniv immediately recognizes the Martial Lord, remembering him as the hero who risked his life to fight at E-Rantel when the Demon Emperor Jaldabaoth attacked. His Imperial Knight also recall the Martial Lord at the emperor's beckoning. Nimble calls to mind that he will never forget Go Gin's bravery as he led the charge on that battlefield. Leinas heard that he was later revived, but even now is still giving courage to people here at the arena. The Imperial Knight Baziwood feels really jealous, recalling that they suffered badly in the battle, and would like a chance to make up for it to his liege. Jircniv jokes to his subordinate that if just being in charge of guarding important people from each country isn't enough for him? Baziwood flustered by his misspeak clarifies that it's not like that...only wanting to show that both His Majesty and they are in high spirits.
The Skeletal Dragon's clash with Go Gin is observed by the protagonist and Surako. The latter is concerned if it would be dangerous if the undead dragon were to fly away. Osk though assures her it is safe, as the Skeletal Dragoni is chained together with special chains. Although he adds that in the past, the arena was a place where people would get so excited that they would die, but things have changed now.
Hearing that he prepared monsters for the arena, Albedo inquiries about this side of his work. To which Osk explains that he is the one who procures monsters and scouts warriors. His current project now is to help His Majesty the Emperor make the most of the arena. From there, Jircniv speaks to King Zanac and Prime Minister Albedo, of his own solution to the "concerns" that were discussed in the carriage earlier.
Zanac seeing where this is going, questions if Jircniv is referring to showing the people how the resurrection of a hero is to give people hope and energy. Although the young king doesn't think that's all it is.
Albedo makes a deduction that maybe Jircniv's idea could also be using a place to showcase those who have been resurrected from the contamination? By showing them bravely defeating monsters, it would dispel the impression of their violent past and ease people's anxieties.
Osk is amazed but it is as expected from representatives of each nation, as they were able to see through Jircniv's mind so quickly. The emperor goes on to point out that Go Gin, the strongest in the Grand Arena and holder of the title of Martial Lord is a war troll who attacked humans in the past. But at heart, he was righteousness to walk alongside us. And so, he became a hero to his people.
If that is the case, then those who have been freed from contamination have the potential and qualities to become beings similar to the "Martial Lords." He would like to demonstrate their strength and righteousness of heart and make this known to his subjects.
Albedo understand, as after looking at the enthusiasm of the people in the arena, there is no doubt that Jircniv's policies are beneficial. Zanac concurs as it's a plan only the emperor could come up with, as he values abilities regardless of social status. Those who have returned from contamination will surely be excited if they are given a chance to clear their names and prove their innocence.
On the topic of employment for those who have been decontaminated, Albedo asks if there is a plan? This is a good point to review, as stated by Jircniv. Even if a contaminated person is able to return to their human body, that doesn't mean they can go back to their previous job. Thus the Empire issued a proclamation stating, "If you have the spirit to serve the people in justice, become a fighter in the arena. We don't care about your background. We will provide you with a reward."
Osk puts in that this afternoon, they will have a friendly match between these promising newcomers and the adamantite-rank adventurers of Silver Thread Bird. He will be the host, so please asks his guests to enjoy and watch. Albedo is looking forward to it. The merchant seeing that's all for now, tells his guests that he is going to give a big shoutout to Go Gin for his victory.
Both he and Headhunter Rabbit excuse themselves. Once the pair leave the room, the two let out a sigh of relief. Osk having been surprised by his guests sudden visit, is glad that nothing bad happened. But now he is getting excited about hosting this afternoon's meeting. He notices Headhunter rabbit being silently quiet.
The demi-human is terrified and shows him his shaking callous hands. Though the merchant mostly just admires the strong palms, making Headhunter Rabbit call him a pervert. That aside he tells Osk that he instinctively senses that Albedo was a strong being. Osk finds hearing this from his subordinate to be impressive and asks what would happen if he were to set up a match. The demi-human though tells him that he should haul up his ass and run away!
Episode 2: Interlude - In the Arena[]
Somewhere in the Baharuth Empire, there was a hideout for a group of workers calling themselves New Six Arms. Although it inherits the name of the security division of Eight Fingers, a criminal organization that once dominated the Kingdom's underworld, New Six Arms mainly undertakes jobs for the establishment, such as eliminating political opponents. Its leader is the well-known "Fighting Demon" Zero. About half of his subordinates follow in his footsteps, but a spy from Nazarick has infiltrated the group under false identities. Them being Regi and Shizuni who walked into the hideout disappointed, followed by Zero.
Peshurian who is at the hideout with Iguva, seeing the looks of the women, declares that he won the bet against the undead. Iguva is aghast that the two couldn't get into the Grand Arena. Regi states that the tickets were all sold out, so it was impossible. The venue is under strict security as expected. She tried asking some old man at the market to give her some tickets, but--as Shizuni finishes for her--- the price was too high, so they gave up. Regi really wanted to see the two suspicious people Zero was talking about as they looked pretty strong. This agreed on by Zero and comments that the pair were looking for work, calling themselves workers, but he could tell they're the kind of people who've been through hell.
Peshurian asks if they are useful people, or will they just be a nuisance? So far from what Zero can tell, the pair picked a conspicuous place of employment like the arena, so for now they will wait and see how they do. He is sure that already people will start to make comments about them. Shizuni complies with her boss's order to be on guard with the newcomers. Silently though she finds it was a stroke of luck that the protagonist and the others came to inspect the arena, so she is content to leave gathering information on the newcomers to them. Even So Regi wanted to see it with her own eyes to see if she should report it to Momonga.
The rest of New Six Arms unaware of the silent dialogue between their female members resume their conversation, this time on betting what outcomes for the newcomers. Peshurian tells his teammates they should decide quickly. The newcomers either win or they lose, and the bet is the pay for the next job.
Regi finds that it's just not fair as they are betting on the outcome of a match with only the boss Zero watching! Shizuni also really wanted to go to the arena. Zero tells them not to complain as this is also a custom of the New Six Arms or as training as he calls it, by using their pride to hone their competitive instincts.
Iguva finds it a great excuse to split the drinking money as expected of their leader. So as Iguva, the "Undead Captain" who leads the undead of the Katze Plains, he will bet on the newcomers "losing." Regi follows suit and declares that she as "Laughing Mace" Regi will ride the "win" and win the bet and laugh!
"One Eye in a Hundred" Shizuni, she goes with "lose". According to the information, the newcomers opponent is an adamantite-rank adventurer and they won't lose easily...she hopes.
"Space Slash" Peshurian bet on "winning" because he believes in his boss's prediction that the two will win. To the shock of Peshurian, Zero as leader of New Six Arms, and the strongest fighting demon in the empire, Zero--bets on them losing. For why, Zero explains he saw that the two have been through hell, so they don't always do rough things. He thinks that they know that suddenly winning against the heroes of the Empire would cause trouble and that they will avoid it.
Regi feels this is a trick question and is definitely a form of cheating! Zero doesn't discount the idea he could be overthinking it. But it also depends on how Silver Thread Bird will react. That being said it's starting to look fun to the monk. Shizuni finds that's true and is looking forward to what she'll eat with the profit, earning a laugh from Zero. Zero comments that the two women have gotten used to things of how the team works.
All Zero knows about the two are that Shizuni and Regi are sisters who ran away from E-Rantel and are working in the underworld. While Igvua is an elder lich and former adventurer who was prepared by Momonga to be the captain of the Ghost Ship on the Katze Plains. All three infiltrated New Six Arms to gather intelligence within the Empire. And while Zero is a shrewd man, there is a soft side to those who are worthy of their use. They've taken advantage of that to get to this point.
Without letting their guard down, the three gather information that will be useful to Nazarick. The Empire has everyday items from the Boastful Sage and weapons made by the dwarves. So it will also be useful as a reference for trade goods in the Sorcerer Kingdom. Iguva having joined the organization in a position unrelated to Lupusregina and CZ only wants to act in a way that makes it easier for them to carry out their duties. All for the sake of the Supreme One. Their thoughts are interrupted when the last member of the worker team arrives who upon seeing the excitement in the room asks what are they so hyped about.
Instead Zero asks where "Thousand Kills" Malmvist has been. Malmvist has news for Zero that they have a work request. They've been asked to reduce the number of undead in order to ensure the safety of Katze Plains. Though the decision rests with Zero. Iguva asks the boss if he wants to wipe out the undead that aren't under his control. Though Regi surmises that the reason for the request is that some important people came to the imperial capital secretly and the undead clean-up is to ensure their safety on the way back.
The task sounds like a worthwhile job to Zero. Malmvist has an idea of using Iguva's undead to attack VIPs carriage on the way back. If they save it, then Zero would be praised as a hero. He is cut off by the monk, as he wants to avoid making a fool of himself or have the incident be seen part of Jircniv's scheming. Whether it's Zanac from the Kingdom or Albedo from the Sorcerer Kingdom, the VIPs from each country seem to be very smart and will probably put two and two together. Peshurian thinks that they could focus on the job and work hard. But not before asking Malmviston who he is going to bet win or lose. Lacking context, Malmvist clueless ask what the armored man is talking about as Zero call everyone to move out.
As New Six Arms were working on their project in the Katze Plains, the Quadripartite Alliance inspection center in the Imperial capital of Arwintar was filled with cheers of praise. Both Osk and Go Gin stand before a cheering crowd, with the merchant telling them to give another round of applause to the Martial Lord Go Gin. A short break is held and Osk announces that in the afternoon, they will be having a friendly match between selected members of the adamantite-rank adventurer team Silver Thread Bird and some promising newcomers. Go Gin takes the chance to address his fans directly, stating he always welcome new challengers and that they should fight together and aim for the top.
At the VIP Suite, the representatives of the Alliance observe the match. Jircniv alone joins the cheers, whilst Albedo and the protagonist patiently observe and Zanac enjoys the food served at the suite. All in all Albedo finds that a scene like this is most important in recovering from a disaster by saving the hearts of the people. Jircniv could not agree more, in fact he took great inspiration from the measures that the protagonist had taken at E-Rantel when coming up with this plan.
Where in the midst of the gloomy frugality of the reconstruction, the protagonist organized a banquet to distribute supplies, and also organized a mock battle tournament to recruit adventurers and provide relief to the victims. And above all else—the "Greetings and Victory" that was hosted was a wonderful festival that deepened friendships across racial boundaries. It is because of these events that E-Rantel still stands today as a bastion of hope for humanity. Or so he thinks.
The Territory Guardian is honored by those words. In terms of reconstruction, he believes that it is more important to heal people's emotional wounds than to repair the structures, and he has put this into practice. It's all in order to restore and improve the city's functions as Surako says. Zanac agrees as even as people move forward in the post-reconstruction world, if they are still heartbroken, something could happen and they might stop moving forward and become discouraged. The people will become more positive, cast aside the shackles of race and creed, and move forward with hope which Jircniv has shown to them through a glimpse of that hope. The king hopes to use what he sees at the arena as inspiration for improving the policies he implements in the Kingdom.
Of course, the Sorcerer Kingdom also supports this as claimed by Aledbo. If Zanac needs anything, he is welcome to consult her or the protagonist. The Sorcerer King has also asked for active cooperation. That is very reassuring to Zanac and looks forward to relying on them in the future.
The emperor wants the Sorcerer Kingdom to earn plenty of foreign recognition from this, which he states to the protagonist is his true and honest wish, much to the homunculus's awkwardness.
On the arena floor, Osk stand with two adventurers. He addresses the audience that their wait will soon be over and that they will now hold a friendly match between selected members of the Adamantite-rank adventurer team Silver Thread Bird and promising new fighters! He explains that even though it is going to be a friendly match, the battle will of course very serious. As someone who arranged the match, he is really looking forward to seeing how it will turn out!
Back at the VIP Suite, Zanac takes an interest in the proceeding match preparations especially towards the members of Silver Thread Bird. The protagonist also remarks that he heard that this adventurer group is led by a bard, which appears to be Freivalds. As for the other one, who Jircniv explicates that he is Fan Long, a demi-human of the Apea Beastmen who is a Beast Lord that can possess the spirits of forest animals.
Given that they are adamantite adventurers, Zanac assumes that they must be strong. He also asks if the promising newcomers are those who have been able to remove the contamination? The emperor does not think so, as he heard that these two were "just jumping in". Jircniv adds that Osk is a man who likes strong people and powerful weapons, so he often finds strong people out of nowhere. The challengers soon appear to the excitement of the onlookers. The challengers against the adventurers then make their appearance. Upon seeing them, the protagonist has the same uncanny "presence" that he had felt earlier. Though this time it penetrated him even more strongly, making him realize that its coming from the pair.
Albedo unaware of the protagonist's discomforted notes that the two women are dressed quite strangely. One only wearing armor on her feet and the other one having a claw on her hand. Meanwhile at the floor of the arena, Osk and Headhunter Rabbit call out to the hyped crowd on their expectations on what kind of fight will these two show them. He then announces the rules, such as no magic allowed. All they want is for the strong to show their strength and to keep in mind that this is a friendly match. Headhunter Rabbit adds that there will be a time limit and bides the four fighters to do their best.
Both women are prepared and ready to fight the adventurers who they bid to go easy on them. Freivalds raising sword state he and his teammate look forward to working with the ladies while they entertain the audience with their tunes. Apparently, the bard initially planned on going easy on the pair, since the emperor has come secretly this may be a good chance to show off his team's skills. Fan Long is just relieved that they are strong newcomers and expects a great match. Both teams then prepare for their match.
Episode 3: Interlude - Amidst the Applause[]
At the sound of the gong, the match ends. Osk announces the results of the fight, with the rookie fighters the winners, praising their unique fighting styles and spirit. He asks the audience to given them a big round of applause for those who came out victorious! As the crowd obliges, some which have become smitten by the new fighters. Though a few complain about the loss of Silver Thread Bird, citing that it was only a friendly match a serious one where the adventurers would have defeated the newcomers.
The girl with the armored legs, while finding it was a very good game, finds it's a bit rude for the crowd to decide the winner in a friendly match. Fan Long explains that there's betting going on behind the scenes on every match, so it's understandable for the fans. Additionally, he acknowledges their strength as it's important that the winner gets the credit.
Freivalds tells the victors that he honestly, had no intention of losing to them, but were stronger than he expected. The armored leg girl tells the adventurer it's an honor to be praised by Silver Thread Bird, the heroes who defeated the Radiant Crawler and the best adventurer team in the Empire. This thrills Freivalds, as he is truly honored to be known by someone from a foreign country. So, in honour of this wonderful encounter with such a rare and powerful people, he plans on performing a song as a bard---though before he does so, Fan Lang stops him telling his leader that Keila will be angry.
At the VIP Suite, the emperor watching the scene, comments that Silver Thread Bird is falling behind, but guesses things are different when the fight was not serious. To which the protagonist agrees on that notion. Perhaps they were able to witness the emergence of a new hero as Zanac suggests, as like everyone in the audience, he felt energized by watching the match. The protagonist thinks that what also helped was being able to see the matches being held at a regular venue where the people's enthusiasm is definitely different from just watching a match. This diverse excitement is also a sign of the strength of people as claimed by Albedo, adding that the visit to the Empire was truly a very fruitful one.
Unknown to her peers, Albedo is greatly interested in the two new recruits of the Imperial Arena...from what she heard in the reports, their equipment and fighting style seems quite different from what they're used to in this area bringing more questions on who exactly they are. The emperor very happy to hear her say that, then bids his guests that they should move to another venue and have a social gathering, which Leinas proceeds to usher the dignitaries out of the VIP Suite.
In the arena seats, Regi and Shizuni are present. Regi boasts that she bet on the winners and won, asking how her sister Shizuni felt at experiencing a loss. The one eye worker chalks up her loss to lacking prior information and luck so she has no regrets. In response to that, Regi decides to leave her sister alone. She also is really grateful that they were able to sneak into the venue thanks to their senior's good connections. Said senior, Malmvist complains about following his boss' example and betting on the newcomers losing. Still, he tells Regi and she and Peshurian are buying dinner with their winnings.
Regi jokingly asks if that's also part of a custom on the team, before Malmvist head out. Alone, Regi in a serious tone asks what she thought of the newcomers in the match. Other than being curious about the short girl's armored legs, all that Shizuni can say is that the girl was used to fighting. It's just as Zero had said, according to Regi, quoting that they've "been through hell." Her evaluation of the little girl's tall partner was that she didn't seem to be fighting the way she should.
Both assume that the pair are undercover like them. And while Regi thinks Albedo suspects this as well, she decides to report the newcomers as soon as possible rather than later. The pair knowing that they worked too hard to set up a place for intelligence activities in the Empire, are concerned that two may try to disrupt it. Hence Shizuni determines that they should nip the seeds of anxiety in the bud. The two undercover workers then leave outside of the arena. With their plans set, Shizuni is left happy eager to enjoy her upcoming meal of rice, while Regi laughs and goes with her to treat her sister and seniors to some delicious food.
In a corner of the waiting room at the arena after the show had finished—---and there Silver Thread Bird is found sulking in their teammates defeat. Keila is particularly annoyed as he accuses Freivalds of giving too much glory to the newbies just because it was a friendly match. And it's even more humiliating as the Emperor had once said that Silver Thread Bird should be the hope of the people.
Freivalds pleads for Keila to stop insulting him, as the two women were just strong. Keila is doubtful as he is pretty sure that the bard was trying to look cool and let his guard down. Plus after Freivalds lost, Keila saw that he praised his opponent and tried to cover it up with that sub-par song. The man stops berating Freivalds only when Fan Long vouches that for him.
Once Keila realizes he was jumping to conclusions he apologizes. Powapon finds this matches what the fans say, and wonders where Osk found these two fighters. Keila thinks that it's just the merchant's skill as he is after all the number one impresario in the Empire.
Osk and Headhunter Rabbit soon arrive to answer those questions. Osk tells the adventurers that in actuality the pair of women approached him, looking hungry. Initially the merchant didn't think much of them, given they lack physical traits of fighters to attract his tastes, so he considered just asking them to leave him alone, but Headhunter Rabbit told him that "They look dangerous."
Since it was unusual for him not to state categorically that it was "bad," Osk was intrigued and decided to hire the two. Keila aware of Headhunter Rabbit's reputation, asks the bodyguard how bad would it be if the whole of Silver Thread Bird fought against the pair.
Unfortunately, the Rabbita doesn't know. But he's certain the newcomers are used to fighting. But it's hard to believe considering how young they look. One of the adventurers, Unkei thinks that with the right training, one might have the ability to maintain their youth. This definitely gets Keila's attention, and asks where the pair of women are.
Headhunter Rabbit answers that after getting their payment, the two left quickly and thinks they may have gone out to eat. Freivalds thinks that the pair are probably at the Sing Apple Pavilion, and suggests that the team head there to socialize. Keila though annoyed by his flamboyant teammate tells him to stop with his antics stating he just wants to head there at the tavern to sing like a bard. Unkei agrees stating that they should hold a separate reflection meeting. This causes Freivalds to whine that all his friends are so cold to him.
At the lodgings prepared by the Empire for their visit, Albedo received a report from Lupusregina through Doppel-Slimeko. The content gradually shifts from the current state of the Empire to the two newcomers who have appeared in the arena.
Doppel-Slimeko gives an additional piece of information, of the newcomers having been also spotted eating at Singing Apple Pavilion, a popular restaurant among workers. Albedo listening to the report suspected that the two were special given their equipment, and tells the doppelgänger to relay her thanks to Lupusregina.
On another notes, Doppel-Slimeko reports the results of the test to improve the Chaos Adaptative Equipment that Narberal was in charge of have been good. The weight of the equipment has been reduced, and the usage time limit has been extended, both of which were better than expected.
The news of Demiurge's project is seen as good to the protagonist, though wished he could have been involved. Albedo accepts the news and tells the doppelgänger to relay their salutes. She tells Doppel-Slimeko to continue relaying information and to keep an eye on the newcomers, before dismissing the doppelgänger.
Albedo thinking tells the protagonist from her perception of the newcomers, it looked as if they had been through a battlefield and even managed to win against adamantite rank adventurers. Before that, they were two promising new fighters who had been boasting about being workers. She wonders who they really are and if they are under some kind of false identities and what their purpose is.
Regarding that...the protagonist has something to report. While he has no proof, associating it with a feeling. He confesses that ever since he arrived at the arena, he has felt something like a "presence" from time to time. If he had to compare it to something, it was something like Shiro, the character who has residence in a corner of the 6th Floor. An existence who becomes clearer as the New Year approaches, who is a guest of Nazarick, and the Ruler of the New Year. And most importantly a being with origins similar to the protagonist.
Albedo getting to what the protagonist is saying is wary of the topic, but before she can address what she is suggesting, they are interrupted. At that moment, there was a knock on the entrance door. Afterwards, several Shadow Demons appeared silently, moving from Albedo's shadow, and reported with a somewhat confused look on their faces.
The demons are obviously frightened, informing his mistress that someone has come to the mansion wishing to meet the two. They wish to ask for instruction. And while the request doesn't seem like an invitation to a dinner party or anything like that, Albedo frowns as why would the Shadow Demons, who are hiding for security purposes, report this? The demons admit it was not as if they were letting their guards down, but the other party seemed to have noticed them and started talking to them.
They had requested an introduction to an important figure in the Sorcerer Kingdom. There are two people, a somewhat unusual-looking knight-like girl and her attendant. This brings astonishment to the homunculus in the room as he knows who it is but can't believe they have come.
Outside, two shadows stand in the courtyard of the mansion, where Albedo and her guests are residing. They stand calmly, unfazed by the Shadow Demons lurking about——it was the mysterious pair that Albedo and the protagonist were just talking about.
Episode 4: Interlude - An Unexpected Visitor[]
Albedo using her senses detects a strong "presence" which can be no doubt be from the pair they saw in the arena. Their presence makes the Prime Minister wondered if they had noticed her intelligence gathering...but guesses that if they protagonist sensed their presence, it's highly likely they did too. One of the Shadow Demons asks what they should do. Since the pair took the trouble to come all the way here, and it's true that she is interested, it's assumed that their guests don't have any hostile intentions.
One of the demons suggests that they disarm them---but Albedo tells the demon that it is alright, finding it interesting that the women are still wearing their equipment. It's fine for her, as she wants to examine closely.
Albedo then summons Doppel-Slimeko with a new task. As she has weakest defense among them, she is to hide and if anything happens, contact Lupusregina. As the doppelganger leaves to follow the order, Albedo thinks that the other summons in the mansion should be on the lookout for the women's other comrades. If the protagonist senses anything suspicious about their "presences," he promises to report it immediately. That being said the homunculus orders the demons to allow the women entry.
The two strangers then enter. The short one with armored legs greets the members of the Sorcerer Kingdom, being extremely grateful that they have spared her their time. She introduces herself as Aggresiel, the leader of the Mercenary Knights. Alongside her is her vice-leader, Billiophia and her younger sister.
Billiophia asks for their pardon for the sudden visit. Albedo not missing a beat is curious to the name of their group, Mercenary Knights as she is not familiar of such an organization existing in the Empire. At first, she thinks the name is just a bluff, although Aggresiel does look like a knight but that's all.
Aggresiel finds it curious that there are no Mercenary Knights in the region, which according to her makes sense, commenting that it explains why it was so hard to get work with Billiophia. Billiophia though tells Aggresiel not to say anything unnecessary as it will only make people suspicious. The shorter girl seeing she got carried away apologizes for her aloofness and resumes the conversation with Albedo and the protagonist.
Aggresiel explains that the two are currently fighters earning money at the Imperial Arena, adding she hoped they had a chance to have seen her fighting style. Albedo admits that she did, finding it to be interesting. In response to that Aggresiel finds that's the best. She expresses that she is also very interested in them all. And that she wanted to get to know them better, that's why she and her sister came over. Before going on any further, Aggresiel asks if she can have her host's name.
Albedo then introduces herself as the Prime Minister of the Sorcerer Kingdom. At the same time Albedo finds these women to be all more suspicious. Not only they can sense the presence of Shadow Demons, but were able to approach important people from another country without an appointment, and what's more, they don't even know the name of the person they're approach. One question still dawns like who on earth are they? It's also odd that the pair don't seem flustered when she points out that they're not a mercenary knight order, and the fighting skills they showed in the arena mean neither she can't let their guard down. There's even a chance they might be like the protagonist. That's all fine for Albedo, but it seems that the pair are also trying to get some information out of the conversation which means she will have to be careful and go along with it until she finds out more in return.
Though Aggresiel seem to be confusing as she begins Albedo's elegance and dignity...going on to say that she seems more beautiful the longer she stares at her. It eventually halts when Billiophia tells her that she is embarrassing herself for getting carried away. In front of Albedo, as Billiophia once again apologizes for her sister's shenanigans, the shorter girl is incredulous on how her sister is not as excited as her, as they are getting to talk with people, they've admired for so many years. At hearing of this Albedo is perplexed on what they are talking about but remains silent.
It seems to Albedo that Aggresiel has longed for this moment to at least meet the Sorcerer Kingdom. The more she looks at it, the more suspicious it seems. The equipment is unfamiliar, and the feathers on the girl's head appear to be not fake but real. As for the armored boots, Albedo knows it's a bludgeoning weapon in combat but wonder if there's some other trick to it.
Billiophia notices that the Prime Minister has been silently examining Aggresiel legs, and openly asks if she is interested in their weapons. She had told Aggresiel that she should take them off before they meet her, but her older sister refused as she wouldn't be able to meet Albedo at eye level. Although Aggresiel points out that Billiophia could neither remove her nails, before apologizing Albedo for offending her and explains that the armors are like her feet to her. And that she didn't want to be suspected of concealing the fact that she was wearing armour that could also be used as a weapon, so she demonstrated it in the match just before.
Albedo can determine that the two women are interested in her and the Sorcerer Kingdom, but asks if that is really all and if there is any more tricks up their sleeves. Aggresiel impressed of her keen insight finds Albedo to be a fitting person for the protagonist to serve. This draws Albedo's attention that the girl knows of the protagonist. It's revealed that Aggresiel has been watching him for a while and has been impressed with his leadership on the ground.
This draws the protagonist to be concerned, as it means that the other party has been watching him and his colleagues for awhile, but is at a loss of when and where this took place. Albedo seeing her colleague's confusion sees that this is Aggresiel's first time meeting the protagonist. But what's clear is that Aggresiel's faction has been gathering intelligence on them one-sidedly. But even if they knew about their guards, such a thing wouldn't be that easy.
Billiophia seeing the increasing tension from Albedo and the homunculus, informs Aggresiel that she is acting suspicious again and that they probably think they're spies or something. Aggresiel finds that unfortunate and while she is honored to be the focus of interest, this is not how she wants to be seen. Aggresiel admits to her hosts that she is not a very outspoken person, so if they have any doubts or questions, please feel free to ask her.
Despite what Aggresiel may look like, she actually values dialogue. That much can be seen by the protagonist as there seems to be no intent attack or provoke them. To make this conversation mutually beneficial, Albedo Aggresiel to answer a few questions. First of all...what is their purpose here? Why are you talking about something that doesn't exist? In addition, the protagonist claims that they have also received testimonies from other workers. If the conversation so far is not some kind of deception, he would like them to explain how it all fits together. Aggresiel is impressed by their incredible intelligence network, but is expected given the Sorcerer Kingdom. However, the girl answers that the Mercenary Knights are not fictional. In one world they are mercenary knights, in another they are workers, and in this one they have settled as bounty hunters in the arena...that being said they have different identities in each world.
The words of world confuse Albedo who demands to know what Aggresiel is talking about. Though Aggresiel coyly states that Albedo seems to be an intelligent woman, and that given the current state of the Sorcerer Kingdom...she should already have the information she needs to put the piece together. At first Albedo is confused but then it dawns on her. Momonga had previously given the order to quickly improve the Chaos Adaptative Equipment. At the time she did not understand why, thinking it was for the people trapped inside the Crack which are essentially hostages. If the rescue operation took a reasonable amount of time, the Sorcerer Kingdom's position would be stable for a long time. She though Momonga was worried about the life or death of the hostages. But now with the two women in front of her claiming to be from another world, what if it was a preparation for a presence from another place...no, from the outside world? If they were to believe what these people say, that's exactly what it is.
To confirm, Albedo asks the protagonist if the "presence" he reported earlier was coming from the two in front of them—----in other words, if the two are "of the same nature" as him. The protagonist realizes that that what they meant when they had been talking as if they had been watching him for a while----it was "inside the Crack"!
Aggresiel hearing the term "inside the Crack". finds it a very apt description but to her and group they refer it as the Corridor. And after hearing Albedo's words, she is convinced as it seems that she and the protagonist share the same origin and is happy to be able to interact with her kindred. The same is not felt by the protagonist, as what she is saying is that the two women were also born from the realm called the Sea of Possibilities, where all possibilities of all things lie dormant.
To be clear Billiophia explains that they were not necessarily spying on the protagonist. To simply put it, "inside the Crack" is like a garden to them. But suddenly, a large number of humans were sent there. They were just investigating the circumstances and wondering if they would suffer any consequences. Judging from the commotion that followed, it seems that a man who looks like a priest from Theocracy was deeply involved. And from his "presence," he was also a kindred spirit but was using some evil power. At the mention of the priest the homunculus realizes that they are speaking of Enhele. He inquires if the Mercenary Knights had any prior contact with the mad priest. Aggresiel denies any interaction, as the Slane Theocracy proclaims human supremacy, and thus is in incompatible with them. And though this may cause some offense Aggresiel is glad that the man is dead.
Billiophia adds that they saw that the people of the Sorcerer Kingdom began their rescue efforts around the time that the "presence" of that fellow disappeared. That's how they learned about the protagonist. That being said Aggresiel asks if they are still doubtful on their intentions? To put in simple words, Albedo understands that the two are beings who can operate within the Crack without harm just like the protagonist and Enhela, and are likely born from the Sea of Possibilities. It explains why the protagonist is not familiar with them and why he sensed them like Shiro.
Even so she still has questions. Such as where did they come from? What they are. And given that they refer the Cracks as their gardens, wants to know where their home is. Since the inside of the Crack is called a corridor, it seems unlikely that there would be any dwellings there. Billiophia tells Albedo from her perspective, their place of origin is on the "other side" of the Crack, meaning they came from one of the worlds that exists there. This is quite shocking, but the tall woman acknowledges that there are a few worlds that exist on the "other side." For a better idea, Billiophia compares the Corridor as connected to the trunk of a tree. All worlds are similar...but there are some differences. Like a world that has ended and the world that is about to begin.
Aggresiel says that her band have adventured all over their previous world, and now they find selves in a world where there is less of a threat from the endless monsters that appear from Cracks. It's rather shocking to the protagonist that there is a world where the threat of Chaos Beasts is minimal. The threat which Aggresiel refers to are the Chaos Beasts. Yes. However, even in such a world, it is slowly heading towards destruction. The short knight them beseeches Albedo and the protagonist of why they came directly to them. It was because they were hoping that the Sorcerer Kingdom could share their wisdom, as they are guiding the humans of this world in a positive direction...and lend them their strength.
Billiophia offers their world's knowledge and the technology they lack. Adding that she and her faction believe they can help turn the unknown into the known. Not expecting trust right away, Aggresiel first would like to build a friendly relationship first, giving her hosts a sketchy toothy smile, which Billiophia chides is having the opposite effect. In response Aggresiel calls her sister being too stiff, as they are before the people who may be members of the guild they've admired and read about for years.
Upon hearing that tidbit, Albedo and the protagonist pause, and demand elaboration when then mention, "guild". Aggresiel explains that they have documents that record the great deeds of a certain guild. Adding to that Billiophia claims that when her older sister saw the protagonist and his allies active within the Crack, she started saying that they might be members of the legendary heteromorphic guild that they know of...hence how this meeting happened. Although, Billiophia states that Aggresiel has no proof. But Aggresiel believes that she is, as her intuition has been pretty reliable citing to Albedo that it's been a pleasant encounter.
Albedo hesitantly agrees, but for reference wants to go back on the topic about the heteromorphic guild they mentioned. Aggresiel then continues, motioning Billiophia to take over. The other woman is not sure if she should proceed, though is encouraged by her older sister, confident that she is right about who her hosts are. Billiophia then complies, and takes a book that Albedo finds vaguely similar to another item, but finds it to be still unbelievable.
From the book, Billiophia recites chapters and sections from the author which include details of an incredible guild that managed to defeat a punitive force of 1,500 people. A guild made up of only heteromorphic species like them. Ones who fight back against the righteous hunters of other races, whose guild members World Champions and World Disaster. From the account the author truly admires and respect them. The guild is Ainz Ooal Gown. The guild master is an undead named Momonga, who they think must be amazing and would like to meet him someday. Billiophia ends her reading, leaving the members of the Sorcerer Kingdom stunned by these revelations. Additionally she adds that the book claimed that a place called YGGDRASIL existed and from their reactions it seems that there is no lie in what is written after all.
Albedo's mind is racing at the thought that these people know about Ainz Ooal Gown...something which she finds dangerous. She weighed on whether she should capture them? But she is unsure to do so as they don't know the other party's strength or the scale of the organization behind them. Albedo knows it would be reckless to make a rash move in this situation. Neither of the two women seem to be letting their guard down. And is unsure what the outcome would be as even though the two seem to be acting randomly, it seems they have already anticipated how her group will react when they reveal the information.
Aggresiel seeing Albedo's distress apologizes if she made her uneasy, and tells her to rest assure she has nothing to fear from them. The girl is aware that currently Albedo's organization calls themselves the Sorcerer Kingdom, and are hiding their identities. The Mercenary Knight understand what that means as they know firsthand how important it is to conceal information. The same goes for their fighting power. If the Mercenary Group become enemies of the Sorcerer Kingdom, as Billiophia hypothesizes, they would easily become dust. Even if they span the world.
Above all, Billiophia tells Albedo that Aggresiel had long harbored a longing for Ainz Ooal Gown, the guild that the creator revered. She wanted to avoid a sad encounter with such people. Aggresiel admits that she felt awkward peeking at people she admires, hence why the of reveal the passage from the document, so she hopes they will understand that it was their sincerity.
In that regard, Albedo is at least relieved to know that her guests aren't thoughtless. Aggressiel is glad she understands, before conceding that the Prime Minister is truly an amazing person, for being part of the guild she admires. The girl looks forward to working with her and the protagonist again in the future. Not just as a fellow countryman, but...in building a good relationship together. Billiophia thanks the representatives of the Sorcerer Kingdom for their patronage.
Aggresiel, the carefree girl who smiles and is called "big sister." Her younger sister, Billiophia, is somewhat elusive, even though she has a respectful attitude. The visitors from a parallel world, impressed by the actions of the Sorcerer Kingdom, hints that they are those with a connection to YGGDRASIL and knows Ainz Ooal Gown. Although there was no certainty about any of this, the protagonist had the same intuition as his compatriots, and Albedo, based on their attitudes and behavior...sensed that it wasn't a lie...
