Summary[]
Episode 1: Crossroads[]
At the Round Table Room, the Floor Guardians, Momonga, and the protagonist convene to speak on the case of Shalltear Bloodfallen in the Katze Plains. While speaking of the various post-processing and investigations——Momonga holds the meeting whilst a euphoric Shalltear kneels below him as his chair. While Momonga wrack over the serious complication of an unknown possessing World Items, Shalltear below moans in joy at her predicament. Ignoring her Momonga mentally goes over the implications that there could be other players like him hiding out in the world and worries that such existence will locate the Great Tomb of Nazarick.
He takes a moment to notice Shalltear's discomfort/happiness asking her to endure it, though Albedo watching asks if this is really a punishment for the disgraced Floor Guardian. The Overseer Guardian asks Momnga to hurry and move the meeting forward, and the Overlord asks the ones present in the meeting to be extra considerate during future field operations as the case at the Katze Plains is still unsolved. Those who mind controlled Shalltear are still unknown and it cannot be sure if they are not the same rank as him. Those like Cocytus and Aura Bella Fiora promise to be extra vigilant. Though there are some concerns that this will cause the efficiency of collecting information and strengthening their forces to drop significantly.
While it should not be out of the realm of possibility that those who attacked Shalltear could be on par with Momonga, Demiurge states that no direct evidence has been found to suggest that Shalltear faced such an entity. Mare Bello Fiore curious on that evaluation asks how can that be? Demiurge from analyzing the battle marks left in the Katze Plains, the battle probably began in an unexpected way for Shalltear and that multiple people attacked their colleague, who together were her equal. Furthermore, it seems that the group had been forced to withdraw. If they were as strong as Momonga, they would not do so. From Demiurge's analysis, this causes some concern for Albedo as if true then it remains possible that there is a larger group behind them. After this situation, the group will be a considerable threat and may start trying to identify them.
Momonga is left with a quandary to either refrain from field operations as much as possible or continue as usual. The protagonist then takes the opportunity to speak, which Momonga permits as he wants to hear the homunculus's opinion as he has been interacting with the outside world the most. The protagonist though has only one thing to say, which is what everyone in the room should really be afraid of. After hearing the protagonist's opinion, Momonga is left to ultimately decide what course to take.
Episode 2: Preparing To Leave[]
On day after the policy meeting in Nazarick, at the E-Rantel's Cemetery Surako, Soi, and the protagonist head to the highly confidential E-Rantel Magic Research Institute to check on the research progress. Opening the secret tombstone passage, the adventurers descend into the institute. Since the protagonist wishes to strengthen the city's forces, both externally and internally, one of his plans it to develop a cure against the miasma so they could operate safely near the Cracks.
When they get to the labs, Surako calls out to Fluder Paradyne, who abruptly appears behind her. Frightened by his appearance, Surako thanks the old wizard answering her and his hard work. Before Fluder can go on the progress of the research, a groan from a feral Gazef Stronoff from the lower floors presents the answer. Soi is disappointed that the contaminated phenomenon has not been solved. Fluder admits that he hasn't had much luck in developing a cure, but——he received a very interesting report that may hold some clues.
The report is from Sophie Noia, who appears to take over the conversation. Before going on her report, the researcher gives thanks to the protagonist for providing her an ideal environment for her work. Going back to her report, some time ago, the institute had recovered the slime material from the Melting Pot that was set to increase the strength of the acid. Answered needed to be found on how successful were the slimes when they dissolved the workers. Sophie goes on to explain that she used contaminated slimes to fortify the acid for the trap. At the time of scene and collecting samples, Sophie discovered that the ratio of normal slimes and contaminated slimes in the pot was different. In fact the proportion of normal slimes increased and the proportion of contaminated slimes decreased. From this it could only mean one thing, that the contaminated was removed and that the conditions in the Melting Pot allowed it. Sophie thinks that if the method is found on how to decontaminate the contaminated slimes, then a cure could be synthesize. While it is still early to tell, she plans to repeat the experiment and verify it.
For this Fluder states that all researchers will be focusing on this project and is confident that the next time the protagonist visit that they will have a result. The three undercover adventurers then exit the secret door and are back in the cemetery. Soi admits that the researchers are doing a decent job for humans, though calling the ones working in the institute humans might not be accurate as nearly all of them are nearly inhuman in some way. The adventurer takes not of the protagonist silence and asks he why he is checking the surroundings.
The homunculus states that he was just being cautious as he does not want to let his guard down. His caution is understandable as the contents in the hidden research institute are vital to solving the mystery of the Incident. Also while he chose the current location, it was out of convenience and now has thoughts to relocate the institute to another location given the current circumstances.
Next the adventurers head to a suite where the King Ramposa III and Princess Renner Theiere Chardelon Ryle Vaiself are waiting to greet him. The king especially is glad to see that the protagonist accepted his invitation, making room for him despite his busy schedule. As food and refreshments are brought into the room, Ramposa III encourages his guests to tuck in and enjoy themselves. While the gesture is appreciative by the protagonist, he declines, though the king insists that the adventurer to let go of the formalities. The princess shares the same mindset as her father only wishes to help in anyway to alleviate the protagonist's daily fatigue. Soi thinking to herself suspects that it has more to do with the absence of the Warrior Captain and the king relying on the protagonist.
On the matter to help assist the protagonist, the adventurer does have a matter that requires his attention which the king could assist. The protagonist wishes to acquire armor for the city. Despite many people having participated in the defense of E-Rantel since the attack by Jaldabaoth, the supply of armor has not caught up with the increase in soldiers. In order to prepare for any threats, the protagonist would like to procure excellent armor and raise the defense power of the city. Therefore—-he would like to trade with the Dwarf Kingdom who people excel in making armor.
King Ramposa III having heard about the demand for dwarf armor, is unfamiliar where the Dwarf Kingdom lies, is informed by his daughter that it is located in the Azerlisia Mountains where the dwarves are also said to mine ores. The king notes that climbing the mountain range will not be easy as there are many formidable monsters that also live there. When he inquires if the protagonist intends to go alone, the adventurer replies that he does as it is urgent that he resolves the issue as soon as possible. However unknown to the royals, it is not the only reason, as it is necessary to bring in influential races to strengthen Nazarick's forces. Since it has been difficult to obtain information in this particular country, a visiting is worth it.
The king continues to be astounded by the determination and sense of mission of the adventurer and offers to provide as much support as possible. Renner too has faith that the famous hero adventurer will surely complete your mission and return. While the adventurer is away, the king promises to take responsibility for the city and that when he returns a huge feast will be waiting for him. Soi observing the king senses that despite his calmness, the sovereign is actually anxious.
After the adventurers left the royals, in the streets of the city, Soi asks what is next on the agenda. While the king will keep E-Rantel safe in the protagonist's stead and the Baharuth Empire increasing its vigilance, the protagonist doesn't feel that it's perfect yet. To that end the homunculus asks Soi to remain behind in E-Rantel while he and Surako are away. Soi understanding knows that the protagonist is worried about leaving the city unattended. She promises to protect the most important places and is hopefully that the protagonist' mission will be quick though wishes his to be careful.
A few days after the meeting between protagonist and the King. In the royal capital, the first prince, Barbro Andrean Ield Ryle Vaiself, was preparing to leave with his loyal nobles. At the palace courtyard, Count Lytton reports to the prince that the deployment of his subordinates has been completed. Barbro under the belief that E-Rantel, was hijacked by a foreigner of the Sorcerer Kingdom vows to take it back with his own hands. He still maintains that his father was probably blackmailed by the foreigner, that or maybe Zanac and Renner were pressured into the scheme. In any case he thinks that he might and even have to kill his family to reclaim the city. Although it is a last resort, the prince considers it a test to become a king as a ruler sometimes needs to make ruthless decisions.
On his horse, the prince calls out to his forces that their destination is E-Rantel which is now under the direct control of the king of the nation. Lytton thinking about what is happening though knowing that leaving the capital will leave it defenseless, he decides to go through with the prince's plan as he has no choice but to throw his support to the Barbro to ensure the prosperity for his noble house. Bardo calls out to his soldiers to follow him telling them that the future of the Kingdom rests on their shoulders and the heavens are with them as they respond with a shout.
At a suit in E-Rantel, Enhela Read Gahi is alone contemplating on the events that have transpired in the city. Although it's been a while since the demons attacked, the city's reconstruction went faster than he imagined. Given the horror in the hearts of the inhabitants, it's no wonder it's still in the midst of turmoil. However, the inhabitants did not cause a big riot due to hunger or anxiety, but that could be due to the defense power of the city having increased thanks to the completion of the fourth wall.
His thoughts draw to the demons and that undead who appeared in the Katze Plains. Their true identity is unknown, and he wonders that maybe it could have been a kind of Dragon Lord. But considering the time, Cardinal Raymond Zarg Lauransan had said that the Slane Theocracy which has history of more than hundreds of years longer than the Kingdom and Empire, if one were to look at the history since the founding of the country, they will find that there is an extraordinary power that appears in this world at regular intervals. Such existences are said to come everyone hundred years. There is a possibility that this Incident is also related to that. The more he thinks about these things, he sees that if he organizes the events after the Incident in chronological order...immediately after the destruction was reported in various places, it led to the first Trilateral Talks and the formation of the Tripartite Alliance.
For the time being, Enhela was only dealing with the situation after the fact, and he hadn't taken any effective steps. He recalls the report on the protagonist, his allies Aura and Mare from a report. It all started from that survey of Great Forest of Tob, it was the first time that a part of the nature of the Crack has been clarified. The successful protagonist and others quickly achieved many achievements and reached the adamantite class at an astonishing speed. Today, both the Kingdom and the Empire swear to be admirer of that person. As for the Theocracy, Enhela knows that they cannot move without ignoring that person, the protagonist.
However, although the protagonist has such ability, his history is completely unknown. When he first appeared, it was the first time that a large forest survey appeared on record. And while it seems that he is from a nation called the Sorcerer Kingdom, but as far as his nation knows about it, there is no history and no record by adventurers. Remembering that powerful existences appear everyone hundred years, Enhela wonders if that the protagonist's base is somewhere near the forest where he appeared. The priest's musings are interrupted by an underling, reporting that the protagonist has left E-Rantel and is headed for the Azerlisia Mountains and that based on his supplies his absence will be short. Thanking his underling, Enhela thinks that now would be a good opportunity to take advantage of since that person is away.
Episode 3: Journey To The Mountains[]
After a "sufficient preparation period" for a certain purpose, the protagonist and others left E-Rantel and went to the Great Forest of Tob. Among the group are Yuri Alpha, Slimeko and CZ2128_Delta. Yuri is glad to see that the protagonist and Slimeko arrived at the forest without any trouble which the homunculus comments is due to her and CZ's protection while they were traveling. The maids brush away the praise as they are eager for some action on this newest mission which they understand is to serve as escorts.
The party heads deeper into the forest, until Slimeko realizes they are nearing the area where the Crack is situated. Waiting for them is Hamsuke who gives her report to the protagonist on the status of the Crack. She reports that the Chaos Beast while still formidable, are kept under control thanks to her, the Death Knight and Kyuko. The hamster then guides the group to an area where it needs their attention. What they see before them is an exact replica of the surface of the Great Tomb of Nazarick. Aura appears and welcomes them, stating that it is a new and improved Fake Nazarick. Since the case of the Katze Plains occurred while the construction of the Fake Nazarick was still underway, Aura was motivated to strengthen the equipment to lure and intercept intruders more than planned. CZ notes that the elf got the fake down on the surface, and even if intruders escape and bring word to others, they will only get a decoy and not the real Nazarick. Aura also promises that those that invade will get more than the asked for.
Yuri notes that the Fake Nazarick could also be used as a safehouse when escaping enemies and to keep the original dungeon a secret. Slimeko realizes that the protagonist led them to the place to do an inspection, though wonders if they have time as they need to strengthen their forces. Still the protagonist wishes to stay awhile and inspect the new facility to the slime's shock. Aura permits it promising to take care of security. After the party finishes patrolling, CZ announces that no suspicious existences were confirmed in the vicinity and that they should be okay. All this stems from the protagonist's wariness of being tracked. Satisfied the protagonist then moves to their next destination and the party bid their farewell to Aura.
At the Abelion Hills, Evil Lord Wrath is conducting an interview with a Stone Eater. Before it can list it abilities to the demon, the Evil Lord state that it is not necessary and to 'show' its power. Obliging the demi-human releases an attack on the demon. Unfazed, Evil Lord Wrath asks if that is all? The demi-human frantically states that he has been trying to grow stronger and eating properly. Demiurge who appears states that if that is how the subject feels, then it is fine. Wrath apologizes to his superior and tells the demi-human to thank Demiurge for his consideration which the latter does before being dismissed. To Demiurge though the demi-human is a pawn, it is not bad to provide some encouragement and keep a few for the future.
Thinking about the battle traces left behind in the Katze Plains, it was clear to the demon that Shalltear was able to compete on more than equal footing with those who attacked. No evidence has been found to suggest no one could outperform Shalltear at this time, but the demon knows it is undeniable that there are prominent individuals out there somewhere. If such individuals are prepared with separate measures, other people should be able to suppress them to some extent through the power of numbers. Wrath reports that all the remarkable demi-humans in the area have been selected. The Floor Guardian thanks his minion for his hard work and muses that his part is finished and wonders if the protagonist is ready on his end.
Slimeko sees that the next destination is the lizardman village, which makes sense to her as it is along the path to the Azerlisia Mountains. Zaryusu Shasha and his brother Shasuryu Shasha appear to greet their guests. Though Zaryusu offers the protagonist to rest, the latter is more interested in the lizardmen's progress. Shasuryu answers that currently, the abandoned village is being renovated and the vacant lots are being improved to prepare for habitation. As it is expected that many people will come and though there will be different dietary requirements the chieftain is confident that coexistence of all will be possible. As long as it is the benefactor's request, the chieftain promises to do their best.
Glad to hear that news, the protagonist makes a note to report it to Demiurge. Zaryusu hides the fact that some elders seem to be against the idea of the arrival of outsiders, but the traveler knows that the lizardmen cannot survive alone in this situation as it requires the power of the protagonist and others. Fortunately, many of the villagers agree with Zaryusu, thanks to the fact that the protagonist and others saved him from a predicament and that joining hands with people from other tribes led to a stable life.
Yuri interrupts as they have another matter that they need to address. Zaryusu understands, but before he answers, Zenberu Gugu arrives stating that the party has come to retrieve him. Greeting his associates, the chieftain of Dragon Tusk is aware that the protagonist's party wants to establish trade relations with the Dwarf Kingdom and needs him to guide them there since the lizardman had once stayed there when he was a traveler. Though Zenberu doesn't remember the directions to the kingdom clearly, he believes he might be able to remember them on the way to the location and is willing to help.
Slimeko seeing that they also came to pick up a guide, though wonders to the protagonist why they did not ask that dwarf that they met before to show them. She means of course, Tsuibayaya the odd dwarf who is a Nazarick collaborator and aims to create the perfect swimsuit described by the Boastful Sage. The protagonist did try to ask for his help, but was given a quick answer by the dwarf, and was told that before Tsuibayaya left his homeland, he stole various precious minerals and goods for his own purposes. Slimeko now understanding why Tsuibayaya refrained to join the mission. CZ adds that it especially would be bad if the dwarf returned as he would be seen as a thief. It also would reflect badly if the delegation came with him as the other dwarves could see them as enemies as a whole. Though the protagonist is not hesitant to use the dwarf as a bargaining chip and return the thief to his homeland if it served useful at the negotiations table. Though Tsuibayaya for now is too useful to give up as he makes armor for E-Rantel, but that may change.
Slimeko unaware of the protagonist's illicit thoughts is disappointed that their friend won't be joining them. Zenberu while understanding he was not their first choice, and not sure if he is as confident as the dwarf in question, asks if it is alright for him to guide them. According to the protagonist they should be fine as he asked his dwarf associate to draw a rough map so they can proceed with it complementing Zenberu memory to guide them. Yuri asks if the lizardman is ready to guide them immediately. Zenberu is ready to leave, but before that he has one small request. The chieftain has trained a little since their last meeting and thinks he has improved. Zaryusu sensing what he is asking tries to dissuade his comrade, but the chieftain points at Yuri. As it is his first meeting her, he wants to battle her and test his skills.
Yuri doesn't mind having a fight as it won't take long. This pleases Zenberu, especially learning that she specializes in hand to hand combat. The two then face each other, and as Zenberu tries to activate "Iron Skin", Yuri closes the distance and lands a punch into his body, making him collapse. Admitting defeat, Zenberu is amazed that how vast the world is, as even when he traveled around he never found a strong opponent like Yuri. To his shock Yuri finds being praise as strong to be too much for her compared to others. Zenberu thinks she is referring to Cocytus, but is even more amazed that Cocytus is just one of the people she is referring to. When he asks about them, Yuri promises that he will know them soon.
Episode 4: In Search Of The City Of The Mountain Dwarves[]
Traveling for a while, Zenberu see that they have reached the same foot of the mountain where he started his journey in the past. To his delight there waiting for the party is Cocytus and Mare. The two Floor Guardians greet the party. Seeing Yuri shows deference to the not just Cocytus but also Mare, causes Zenberu to realize the dark elf boy is one of the beings Yuri mentioned to be on the same rank as Cocytus. As for why they are part of the delegation, previously days before at the policy meeting, Momonga opened floor to hear the protagonist's opinion. The protagonist stated that Nazarick should be more afraid of the phenomenon that caused Nazarick to collapse. If it can occur again in a situation, stressed the need to obtain information that will lead to the resolution of the Incident and strengthen their forces. Demiurge reported that so far that they have estimated the nature of the threat and have taken defensive measures. And while the demon doesn't believe they will be defeated like last time, as long as the identity of the threat has not been identified, the possibility of unforeseen circumstances cannot be denied.
Understanding that they cannot sit and wait on this problem, given the situation Albedo was hesitant to move without support. The protagonist had an idea on that. To his understanding they have been informed that long-lived and powerful races live in the hinterland of the Azerlisia Mountains. If they bring them into the fold, then their situation might be better. Momonga thinking on this idea, agreed that certainly bringing long-lived and mighty existences would useful, if it was anything like "YGGDRASIL," then it's possible that those races know something that short-lived people can't know.
Momonga gave his consent to allow the protagonist to find the cause of Nazarick's collapse and to continue activities in strengthening the general alert system to deal with unknown threats. In other words, he gave permission to "move forward." Under the new policy once enough time has been prepared, with the utmost care in Nazarick's defense, only then would some long-term external activities be permitted under multiple Guardians. The selection of people for the Azerlisia Mountains, will be the first team in the new policy. Momonga then took a moment to check on Shalltear's condition before directing Cocytus and Mare handle the mission.
Slimeko after learning of the contents of the new policy, having been absent at the time of the meeting, is stunned on the importance of the mission as it serves more than the purpose besides the development of trade routes. Though she would like to ask the protagonist a little more detail she decides to hold her queries for later. Now that everyone is gathered, Zenberu before setting off as their guide, asks the group to confirm if they are truly going to trade with the dwarves. The protagonist states this to be true that his party only wish to form a cooperative agreement with the dwarves, and Yuri adds that Cocytus and Mare are additional escorts in case of emergency. This relieves Zenberu, as he considers the dwarves his friends that he is indebted to. It doesn't surprise him, as he also heard that the group had protected the city of humans. The lizardman though is surprised that Mare is coming with the group, as he looks just like a normal kid, though cannot help feeling uneasy, but his attributes this to be just his reaction of hearing that Mare was on par with Cocytus. Apologizing for his suspicions, the lizardman is ready to guide them to the mountains.
Meanwhile at the E-Rantel Magic Research Institute, Soi having checked the area, and the people finds no evidence that a suspicious existence. Due to the lack of enemies that have come, she wonders if the precaution of the protagonist is warranted. Her charges, Sophie Noia, Fluder Paradyne and Nfirea Bareare are seen in a debate on the next phase of their newest project. From what Sophie can tell, the experiment where the contaminated slime has dissolved the Chaos Beast succeeded, but still lack the decontamination of the contaminant. The researcher notices Nfirea's silence in her tirade and mistakes the directors frown to be his displeasure for wasting Chaos Beasts chaotic beast specimens are valuable, but it is impossible to verify without conducting this experiment. However Nfirea was merely wondering what they were missing in the decontamination process. Just as what had happened in the Melting Pot at that time. There were many humans and Chaos Beasts that were dissolved by the strong acid produced by normal and contaminated slimes so it's likely that those are factors in the event that led to decontamination.
Sophie paid close attention to the reports of how the slimes melted the Chaos Beasts. There are many cases where the slimes had dissolved humans, but not so many cases where the Chaos Beasts had been dissolved. In most cases, the Chaos Beast overcame the acid. From Nfirea's viewpoint it seems that simply dissolving the Chaos Beasts in slimes does not eliminate the pollution. Fluder thinks perhaps something in the Melting Pot may be worth noting. Suddenly Nfirea cries out with an epiphany. Sophie seeing that the director of the institute has a flash of inspiration, asks him to share as there may be something that only he, who hates the Chaos Beasts and have been studying them can see.
Soi glad to see that there is progress being made muses that it might have been worthwhile to build the facility, as it may even solve a part of the nature of the Incident is clarified. Then she realizes that as the research in the institute progresses, some people may move to get results and might be what the protagonist is afraid of. Before she can contemplate on this any further, Soi immediately sits up straight in shock, he disturbance catching the attention of Nfirea who asks if everything is alright. Soi tells the director not to worry as it is a security matter and to continue concentrating on the experiment. The adventurer leaves the room, as she got a reaction from a secret passage for corpses. The passageway is not exactly a doorway but not many people should know about it the examine the area. But yet someone appears to be snooping around that passage and Soi intends to find out who it is.
In the Azerlisia Mountains, the delegation from the Sorcerer Kingdom are riding on magical beasts to climb the steep mountains at a rapid pace. This is all thanks to the tamed magic beasts that Aura lent the party. On the way, the protagonist asks Zenberu if he recognizes anything that might lead them to the route he took in the past. Using the map, Zenberu states that they are in the area, but since some time has passed everything looks different. The entire area has been covered in snow, making it difficult to locate the cave passage that leads to the underground dwarven city. The party has no choice but to blindly search for it. Yuri has an idea, as since the dwarves sold armor to other countries, could they not use that route and follow it. However the protagonist informs the maod that the route has been in disuse as all trade with the dwarves ceased with the Empire after the Incident. Plus relying on people from the Empire is not as simply compared to the lizardmen. The homunculus doesn't want to risk leaking of their movements to the Theocracy. And it would be unpleasant to kill a person once they become obsolete. Cocytus taking note that the dwarves had ceased contact with the outside world, wondered what became of them. Yuri supposes that the dwarves may have been wiped out, though Zenberu hopes that the dwarves are safe.
All the group can do now is search for any clues to the entrance. So far Mare and CZ find no traces of any creatures of signs of the cave. The party continue moving through the mountains searching but nothing has come so far. Zenberu begs forgiveness in his failure to provide them a clear path, though the protagonist admits that the map they have also appears to be inaccurate. Cocytus thinks that the issue is that the terrain changed too much, but the lizardman feels that even if the area did change, they should be in the right place. Slimeko suggests that maybe they call out for the dwarves to come out. But the protagonist warns her against it as it will most likely attract monsters to their location. The idea is not totally dismissed as Yuri believes they could try to attract the dwarves attention via other means. Mare asks what do dwarves like, which Zenberu answers to be alcohol and rare ores since they are miners. If that is it, Slimeko believes if they set up alcohol or a rare ore they will come. The idea gets a laugh from the lizardman as such a bait trap would only work on low intelligence monsters, and most likely the dwarves would be wary of such a display. It would have not worked, as the protagonist remembers that Tsuibayaya had said that dwarves rarely go to the surface and thus hard to lure.
An idea to dig the earth with magic is recommended by Yuri as they may eventually reach the cave. But Zenberu asks that be used as a last resort as if the scenery changes further, it will be difficult to find the cave by relying on maps and memories. Slimeko getting off her mount decides to go search on her own and use her abilities, and after a few steps away, falls into a pit hidden by the snow. Slimeko's fall reveals a rift in the ground and as she gets out, two bats emerge and attack. Yuri steps in and gets rid of them of the pests. Mare checking the cave with [Detect Life] confirms that nothing is there. Zenberu inspecting the rift realizes it to be the same opening that took him to the dwarven city. The group praise Slimeko for solving their dilemma and they prepare to enter a city of the dwarves. They descend through the cave until they come to a large space where a city sits——but they are shocked by what they find. Mare using [Detect Life] again finds nothing to be alive in the city.
Episode 5: Abandoned City[]
Yuri hesitantly asks Zenberu if this really is same the city he visited before. The former traveler confirms it to be so but states that it wasn't empty as it is now. Slimeko sees no signs of habitation and wonders where the dwarves could be. The protagonist not wanting to make premature assumption tells his party that they need to investigate and hopefully find some clues. After searching for a while, the group found that the buildings are empty of people and also furniture. Zenberu sees that it means that the city was abandoned. To CZ it means that the inhabitants left on their own accord and would indicate that they did not flee when attacked as there would be corpses. Slimeko thinks maybe the dwarves disappearance is related to the Incident, but signs of the departure indicate it happened before the world disaster.
At least by several years, considering the way dust accumulated and the degree of deterioration from the homes. Zenberu notices some footprints found in a home, only that they do not belong to dwarves as the dwarves wear shoes even in their residences and these obviously do not. Yuri considering that dwarves are a very strong race save for a few dwarven solders, leads the group that maybe the dwarves left to avoid an invasion from another species. The footprints would definitely support the theory though there appears to be a third set of tracks one that belongs to a four-legged species. Mare finds it a pity that Aura is not present as she would be able to identify the tracks.
The protagonist leads the group to follow the footprints and see where they lead. If the creatures that came to the city, were attacking the dwarves, then it would be reasonable to say that they would be trailing the diminutive humanoids. Zenberu agrees as the cities of the dwarves are also connected as the tracks may lead them to the next city. The tracks lead the party to a tunnel that connects to a mine, indicating the invaders may have followed the dwarven refugees. This paints a very dark picture for the dwarves and Zenberu hopes that the race is alright.
Slimeko tries to comfort Zenberu, but something distracts her and she reports that she can smell something like blood. CZ notes that to be an understand and points to a pool of blood up ahead in the tunnel. Yuri taking a defensive stance calls CZ to come with her as they act as the vanguard. Moving carefully forward they find a corpse of a demi-humans, one with a tail and also a biped matching the same characteristics as one of the footprints found in the city. Examining it Cocytus asks Zenberu if he recognizes what it is, but the lizardman states he doesn't but knows that if such a thing attack a dwarf the latter would have no chance. Yuri is more concerned on what caused the fatal wounds on the body. However they hear a cry of pain in the darkness, and follow it. There they find a pair of Giant Lizards just like the heat emitting monsters from the Great Lake to be chewing on something. The maids swiftly kill the beasts and check on what the lizards were consuming. It turns out to be another body of the same demi-human species that they just encountered. It seems obvious to what occurred in the city based on the footprints, the demi-humans came and occupied the city and they were driven out by the Giant Lizards. The odd chain of events cause Zenberu to call out what is going on in the mountains.
Mare is quiet through the deliberation and he reveals that [Detect Life] senses something in the darkness. A voice responds saying that he is impressed that the dark elf was able to see through his cloak. Out of the shadows, a dwarf appears. Slimeko is shocked and mistakes the dwarf for Tsuibayaya as he looks exactly like him. Even the protagonist makes the same mistake, until he remembers that Tsuibayaya did not want to come on the expedition, and wonders if perhaps all dwarves look similar to other races. The dwarf has another surprise for them as he recognizes the name Tsuibayaya and demands to know how they know him. The protagonist explains that he is an acquaintance of theirs as they previously, came to the dwarf to retrieve a delivery of armor and were manipulated forcibly to help him make an equipment called "swimsuit" in exchange. The other dwarf satisfied at the explanation, knows that Tsuibayaya calling him an idiot for still trying to make a weird thing described by the Boastful Sage and apologizes for the trouble Tsuibayaya caused the protagonist and his friends as he is his kinsman.
The dwarf introduces himself as Bigosa, the father of Tsuibayaya. This astounds Slimeko as it explains why they look exactly alike. But the dwarf states that he wouldn't say that because while its true other races state the dwarves are indistinguishable to each other, he doesn't seem to believe so. CZ inquires to the dwarf about the cloak that he used, asking if it has the power of invisibility. Bigosa apologizes as he did not mean to spy on them. The demi-human corpse they came upon is a Quagoa and being attacked by the two minsters just he came to the scene. To save himself he had to hide while the beasts were busy eating the demi-human and then the party appeared. Yuri guesses that the reason the dwarf continued to remain hidden after the fight was to determine if they were friend or foe. The Cocytus agrees on such a cautious move, making the dwarf to examine the Floor Guardian commenting that the insect seemed strong. Zenberu tries to also dispel the dwarf's fears stating that they are his benefactors of the Sorcerer Kingdom and that they came to trade with the Dwarf Kingdom. He even goes as far to say that the Sorcerer Kingdom is a country where various races coexist. Though he never heard of such a country, Bigosa decides to take the lizardman's word as he recognizes Zenberu from his right arm as the same demi-human that came to the city a few years ago.
Zenberu affirms that he is the that lizardman, and the chieftain of Dragon Tusk, serving as the guide for his associates. Impressed Bigosa finds it amazing that the lizardmen had achieved peace as they were rumored to hate diplomacy. Zenberu is relieved at seeing the dwarf as now Bogosa could provide some answers as to why the city from before was abandoned. Bigosa states that its been empty for awhile and they the inhabitants had relocated. When pressed on the location, the dwarf is reserved in speaking any further as traveling to there would be difficult now. Finding his behavior odd, the protagonist asks if there is anything wrong about going to the new home of the dwarves. The dwarf explains that getting closer to Feo Jera at this time would be impossible. In fact the reason why he is in the tunnel and not there was because he abandoned Feo Jera and ran away. The situation grows even more confusing the Bigosa is asked by everyone to shed some more light on what is happening.
From what little the dwarf confides in them, Yuri asks the Bigosa if the destruction of Feo Jera is inevitable? Since it appears that it was still standing when he left, then it is not certain that it has been destroyed. Bigosa cannot argue with that logic. Furthermore it would be in Bigosa's interest to guide them to the city as they came to open trade relations, if the dwarves are gone then there will be no trade. Bigosa wondering if they could perhaps help is still worried as there was a horde was about to overrun the city and annihilate the dwarves living there. Cocytus is undeterred as they will deal with them. A bit taken aback by the large being's formidableness, he also notices the warrior's weapon, which the dwarf sees that it is made from a unknown material and is a high quality product. Understanding that they are not pushovers, the dwarf agrees to guide them to Feo Jera so that they can help save it. Taking his reply as a yes, Yuri lift the dwarf on her shoulder to start their journey. The dwarf though tells them that if they are going underground to the city would take days.
The scene then switches to the surface, returning to their waiting magical beasts mounts loaned from Aura. While on the way, Bigosa gives them the general overview of the situation in the mountains. He explains that his kind are a race that have roots in the ground and dig ore. Thus mountain range is their home and the heart of their business. But they are not the only race that dig the earth as a race known as the Quagoa are inhabit the mountains and are very hostile. About three years ago the Quagoa began to appear near Feo Raidho so the dwarves decided t abandon it to move to the the current capital, Feo Jera so they could concentrate their military strength. The other city Feo Jera is a strong city with a variety of defenses, such as the Great Rift which prevented the Quagoa from attacking. The dwarves were enjoying a period of peace when something happened. Rumors creeped into the kingdom about the World Incident and soon the sighting of Quagoa began to decline.
At first the dwarves were joyous that the dangerous Quagoa were vanishing, but they eventually learned that there was a greater danger approaching. The Giant Lizards soon appeared with their burning breathes the dwarves found these new monsters to be more ferocious than the Quagoa and terrifying opponents that could chew hard ore. Like the Quagoa these monsters could eat ores it seems, and Bigosa theorizes that the demi=humans were all killed because the Quagoa may have intruded on their feeding ground. And apparently the Giant Lizards view the dwarves as enemies like the Quagoa. The dwarves found themselves pressed in a corner, working together and busy repairing equipment to fight the monsters, but they find their abilities lacking as the Giant Lizards are not like fighting Quagoa as they have different. There was news that a horde was rushing to the immediate vicinity of the city and repairs to the gate might not be completed when the come. Considering the number of days since Bigosa left, he wonders if the city can endure the attack. A question comes up by the protagonist as to why he would leave the safety of the city and travel to the abandoned city of Feo Raidho.
Though it might have been safer to bet on the possibility that the refurbishment of the gate would be completed, Bigosa had a friend that came to Feo Raidho. His friend while not as stupid as his son Tsuibayaya, he was a weirdo that risked his life for a dream and came to the deserted city to look for ores for his research. While Bigosa wasn't sure if the other dwarf considered him a friend, he nevertheless went out to look for him in the mines as he knew what it was like to have an idiot in the family and could not leave his friend in his own. But when Bigosa searched the mines, all he found were bloodstains and his friend's cloak. Knowing what it could implicate, Zenberu encourages the dwarf not to lose hope as Bigosa didn't see a corpse or a Quagoa or Giant Lizard eat his comrade, so he may be still alive and escaped somewhere safe. Bigosa has no choice but to hope when he was at the scene. At the time he was alone and knew he could not return to Feo Jera given the danger. He originally planned to use his friend's cloak to escape and hide. The lizardman states that it may not be so dire as the city has yet to be confirmed to be destroyed and plus they are heading there.
As for how the monsters managed to reach the city despite the barriers, Bigosa believes that they may have dug a hole that leads to the city. Yuri asks if there have been any appearances of any odd-shaped monsters that appeared after the Incident. So far from what Bigosa knows there hasn't been any information about such things near Feo Jera. Mare wonders if this is due to the fact that there is no Crack near the vicinity of Feo Jera. The protagonist is pretty sure that the monsters they encountered on their trip are related to the events after the Incident, but since there are no reports of any Cracks near the city it may be unnecessary to be wary of Chaos Beasts appearing. Bigosa believes that they should get to the city soon as their mounts are quite fast. Soon he sees the fort on the surface and then guides the group inside. The protagonist and the others pass the fort and finally come to Feo Jera. But what they see is far from ideal, as there are pools of blood and bits of flesh everywhere belong to dwarves.
Episode 6: Mountain Range Lord[]
Bigosa is horrified at the destruction of Feo Jera as the other try to formulate what to do next. Finally the protagonist orders them to search the city. There is death and destruction everywhere, but Yuri notices that many of the fallen corpses are those of soldiers and seem to be in numbers smaller than anticipated. When Bigosa is asked how many dwarves were in the city, the answer is 100,000 people. While its seems true that the monsters did not eat the corpses like the Quagoa as Zenberu had once said, the group notices that bodies of civilians seem absent. Zenberu has an idea that maybe the dwarves may have relocated the civilians to another location. However Bigosa states that there is no other safe haven as Feo Raidho was emptied and the former capital Feo Berkana is occupied by a dragon.
The mention of a dragon draws the protagonist's attention and Bigosa clarifies that the dragon rules Feo Berkana and is a terrifying existence that reigns over the mountains. Before he can continue two Giant Lizards crash through the rumble and attack. Yuri urges Bigosa to run as she and CZ confront the beasts with fist and gun. The fight is short and Bigosa is left stunned as the two women took the beasts like they were nothing and wonders if all the warriors in the Sorcerer Kingdom are such good warriors. They were lucky as it seems that those were the only monsters that the horde left behind. Still wanting to check the ruins, Mare is ordered to use his magic to detect anything. He does so and reports that there is someone buried under a pile of rubble. Yuri smashes the pile to reveal an injured dwarven soldiers. Slimeko helps the soldier up and Mare uses his magic to heal the warrior.
Bigoza kneels down near the soldier, who recognizes him, having heard that the other dwarf left the city, disregarding the soldiers' warnings. And is surprised that the dwarf survive in the monster infested wilds. In retrospect, the soldier believes that Bigosa leaving may have been the correct answer. Bigosa asks what happened to everyone and the soldier tells him that the dwarves retreated to Feo Berkana to his shock. The dwarf soldier explains that immediately before the line was broken through their defense, the ruling council decided in order for their people to survive, they needed to join hands with the Frost Dragon, one of the strongest creatures in the mountains who also rival against the Frost Giants.
Bigosa bursts stating that its impossible as it is highly doubtful that the dragons will negotiate. His sudden emotional fury startles his comrades which he apologizes which he promises to explain as the party travels to Feo Berkana. On the way, as promised Bigosa gives them a quick story of the dwarves history. As they know immediately before the fall of Feo Jera, the dwarves left the city and headed for Feo Berkana, the former royal capital at the decision of the Regency Council. Feo Berkana is revealed to be under the control of the Frost Dragons who in the past used to be in an alliance with the Quagoa. Though the alliance was more akin to the dragons using the Quagoa. Like most dragon species Frost Dragons covet precious metals and gems, and used the Quagoa, to dig ore as their miners. However since the new invasive monsters appeared the Quagoa have vanished causing the dragons to lose their slaves. From what Bigosa can tell, he thinks that the Regency Council are going to use the Quagoa's absence to their advantage by bribing the dragons with ores.
Cocytus asks if that will really work. According to Bigosa it is impossible to negotiate on an equal footing as the dwarves are up against a dragon. There is a high possibility that a deal with dragons will fall through. But Yuri states that if negotiations are successful then won't the dwarves receive sanctuary? It's still unthinkable, but it would be encouraging to get the protection of a mighty race like the Frost Dragons. It might be possible to buy a favor from the dragons for protection in Bigosa's opinion. The protagonist feeling speed in paramount, Cocytus and Mare step up to lend their support with Cocytus promising to cut down any enemy, whilst Mare carves a path. Hearing this Bigosa thinks they are joking at such impossible things.
At Feo Berkana, the members of the Regency Council managed to gain an audience with the Frost Dragons at the former royal palace. The dragon in his throne room, is surprised that the dwarves have come before them, though he can't say he has forgotten what the dwarves did to his minions. Speaking on behalf of the Regency Council is the Master of Caves and Mines who wishes to apologize to Olasird'arc Haylilyal, chief of the Frost Dragons and Lord of the Azerlisia Mountains. The dragon though tells the dwarf not to mention the name of its father so freely and states that he is not Olasird'arc. The dragon seeing the dwarf's confused face then tells him that his father died, because he faced a decent strong enemy. The dragon asks if the dwarf is happy to hear that from a race they despise? The councilor though begs for forgiveness as such thoughts never crossed his mind. He offers the dragons jewels both as a sign of his heartfelt apology for his rudeness. This humors the dragon as the dwarf is willing to apologize for the disrespectfulness using offerings of that degree.
Once again the dwarf apologizes and only wishes to gain the dragons' protection swearing his people to devote their lives to labor under the dragons and are willing to offer the dragons more. In his mind the councilor is surprised to learn of the death of Olasird'arc, but since the Quagoa are gone he thinks that the dragon will accept the dwarves servitude to replace them. The dragon declines the offer to the Master of Caves and Mines astonishment. The dragon asks why should his kin look to protect the weak races such as the dwarves. The dwarf tries to argue that the dwarves know all about the mountains and can dig up ores for the dragons. But the dragon states that he is not interested. The lack of interest continue to shock the dwarf and the dragon tell the councilor that the world is about to end and all the material wealth they have will be pointless. The dragon then orders the stunned dwarf to immediately disappear from his presence.
Outside city, the protagonist's party finally arrived. Bigosa is amazed as the trip was so quick, causing him to admire on how the group. The group then aim to get to the royal palace where the Frost Dragons are. A horde of Giant Lizards blocks their way. A solution is offered by Bigosa as he knows that there is an secret underpass leading to the royal palace. Mare decides to stay behind to take care of the lizards. Bigosa surprised at the boy's determination decides to leave it in his hands as from his journey with his new companions they seem to make the impossible happen. Mare bids them goodbye and promises to make sure the beasts do not damage the palace.
Back in the palace, the Frost Dragon callously demands the dwarven councilor to leave his lair. But the dwarf pleads with the dragon to reconsider promising his people will give him anything. However the dragon is starting to get annoyed and tired of the dwarf. As the dragon prepares to kill the dwarf, the doors of the chamber burst open letting in the protagonist's party. The dragon seeing the intruders demands to know who they are. The protagonist responds stating that they are emissaries from the Sorcerer Kingdom but the name means nothing to the dragon who then asks why they came.
When he is told that the Sorcerer Kingdom wishes to build relationships with the races that live in the mountains, the dragon is once again annoyed that more weaklings have come crying to his kind. The dragon is obviously looking down on the delegation from the Sorcerer Kingdom and Cocytus especially takes offense to being called a weakling and strike a floor in fury with his weapon causing it to create a crack on a nearby wall. The strength of the blow is observed by the dragon. Cocytus challenges the dragon to a fight which the latter decides to accept.
Mare is later busy contending with the Giant Lizards as there seems to be many of them but he steadily begins killing them one by one as quietly as possible to avoid making too much noise for the delegation. In the palace Cocytus strikes the Frost Dragon hard enough that it falls to the ground. The dragon is in disbelief that he was defeated by a single blow. The protagonist watching with the others like Slimeko, Yuri and CZ comment that the beast is weak. Yuri even stating that even a Pleiades maid could win against the dragon. Cocytus tells the dragon to surrender or forfeit his life. The dragon concedes admitting that they are not weak. Getting up the dragon agrees to hear the delegation out, but warns them that it will make no difference as even if they join forces it will be in vain as the world is about to end.
Finding that statement to be strangely foreboding, the protagonist listens as the dragon tells the group that before the cause of the Incident that covered this world, there were those who confronted it. A dragon that had lived longer than his father had came to them. It needed his father's help against the power of the one who caused the Incident which will overwhelms them. Olasird'arc refused the request as he was not interested. At that point, both his father and his family misunderstood the horror of the Incident. Olasird'arc realized the seriousness of the matter after hearing that dragon had disappeared against the cause of the Incident that has tremendous power.
Knowing the seriousness of the situation, Olasird'arc also left here to prepare for the Incident. His family never heard back from him again and only received news that he was dead. The Frost Dragon is sure his father fought against the cause of the Incident. If his father could not stand against it, how could his brood could? The dragon is convinced that their fate is already sealed and no alliance will change it. The protagonist boldly states that the world will not perish. Hearing that the dragon is amused as while the protagonist's allies are strong, and confident on his power, it is pointless. However h=the dragon becomes stunned when Mare comes into the chamber to report that all the monsters attacking Feo Berkana have been killed. When the dragon states what she is talking about, the protagonist repeats what Mare just told them. This is unbelievable to the dragon as there was a horde of creatures outside each one capable of burning fire and were even troublesome opponents to him.
Staring at Mare, the dragon is more confused that the boy lacks any fatigue. He questions the delegation if the Sorcerer Kingdom sent its elites to the mountains, but is told that only a few forces were sent. Furthermore he is told that they are weak compared to their master. This astounds the dragon who quickly tries to calm himself. Originally having a fatalistic attitude, the dragon is more than eager to join hands with the strangers to overcome the looming crisis. The dragon tells the group that he will consider their offer after he deliberates with his siblings and mothers. Keeping face the dragon states that he is only doing so due to the special circumstance and asks what would the protagonist have his family do. The protagonist has a condition for the alliance. In the end the Master of Caves and Mines ends thanking the delegation and the Sorcerer Kingdom for having somehow convinced the dragon to also unite with the dwarves.
At the Round Table, Momonga Demiurge that he received a report from the protagonist that he was successful in getting multiple Frost Dragons to join them. It seems that the dragons have agreed to protect the dwarves and that the dwarves will start shipping armor as soon as their homes are reconstructed. Demiurge is thrilled by the news as they now effectively control the mountain range. Not only that they also got some information about the history of this world from long-lived races. Though the Frost Dragon species were not strong as expected, Momonga is more interested in learning about the old dragon mentioned by Olasird'arc's child. It seems that a detail of the cause of the Incident has been revealed as being something that can be confronted and not just a disaster or a natural phenomenon. While it seems that the strengthening of their forces has worked effectively in dealing with the Incident Momonga wishes to learn more about the mysterious dragon.
Around the time when the protagonist and others finished post-processing in the Azerlisia Mountains and were in a hurry to return to E-Rantel, Soi keeping watch in the E-Rantel Research Institute had sensed as reaction in a secret passage in the laboratory. She confronts the intruder and to her surprise finds it to be Enhela. Having been caught Enhela states that he has no excuse for trying to break in, but swears to his god that he was not going to steal anything. By his own admission Soi, points out that he is indicating that he came to steal information. Enhela admits it a poor excuse of his. Soi is more concerned why a high ranking member of the Slane Theocracy has infiltrated here, but suspects it was to gain information. With the protagonist gone, Soi thinks she can get information that may change the status quo.
On the other hand Enhela privately thinks that he can figure out the identity of the protagonist and find evidence he was a danger to humanity. In doing so, Enhela hopes it might lead to a situation where both the Kingdom and Empire turn against the protagonist. Soi asks why he is here, and is Enhela claims to admire the protagonist as he has a strong sense of duty to protect humans like someone from the Theocracy. The priest goes on to say that his interest could even be called an obsession. Soi asks if that means he is not an enemy. Enhela's face darkens and he replies that humans should be protected by human hands. Before the two can converse further, they are interrupted when an explosion is felt from the surface.
Episode 7: Cracks[]
Shortly before Soi and Enhela confronted each other-outside the city, Count Lytton has followed the orders of the crown prince to ready to battle against E-Rantel a stage he did not expect would escalate to.
Barbro studying the city’s defenses is surprised at the fourth wall and the changes while he was away at the capital. He realizes how much he was out of the loop with his father who relied on his younger siblings and grows embittered how his sire disregarded his own contributions.
He murmurs to himself why, catching the attention of the count but he casually dismisses it as nothing. A soldier reports that the king is riding to meet their forces.
The prince greets his father who demands his son what he is trying to do. Barbro is indifferent to the question despite the fact that he has lined up his armies to prepare and attack the city. To the king and counts shock that it was the prince intends to do if negotiations break down. The king order his son to stand his army down using a royal decree.
Rather than listen to his sire, the prince asks his father what kind of decision he made to transfer the city rights to a foreigner. He questions if his father is not unfit. He continues to list the radical ideas of the protagonist citing the strange soldiers now lining the walls and coexisting with Demi-humans all to him which is unthinkable. There is only one way to explain why his father has acted this way, that the king was brainwashed by the Sorcerer Kingdom. Thus his father is unfit to continue his duties as a ruler.
The king tries to plead with his son begging him to see the situation as it is. But the prince ignores them seeing that he can no longer sway his father to his line of thinking.
On the road, Yuri and CZ are escorting the protagonist and Slimeko back to the city. They catch sight of city in the distance and to their confusion the troops. From their view it appears that the forces of the city and the soldiers outside are facing each other and belong to the Kingdom. Having a bad feeling the protagonist tells his companions that they need to hurry so they can understand the situation.
At the meeting between the prince and king, Barbro declares the filling for making his father see reason and decides to take matters into his own hands to retake the city. All of a sudden blood is spilled and the king cries out in disbelief.
Elsewhere in the darkness three Cracks glow as they explode into existence.
