Mask of Envy (嫉妬する者たちのマスク) is a type of cursed item used by Ainz Ooal Gown to hide his skeletal face.

Description[]

Mask of Envy is a giveaway event item from YGGDRASIL for players who logged into YGGDRASIL from 7 am to 10 pm during the Christmas Eve and remained active in-game for at least two hours.[1]

Appearance[]

The mask is similar to a Barong mask from Bali. Its expression ressembles tears or anger.

Abilities[]

The mask could be considered as useless for it could not be customized or installed with data crystals for additional effects. It mostly serves as a mere decorative feature for a player's avatar.[2]

Trivia[]

  • The Mask of Envy is based on the Barong from Balinese mythology.
  • It was considered a "curse item" by the players because the developers gave it as a dark joke for the single players.
  • When Gazef asks Ainz to remove the mask, the magic caster tells him that it will lead to him losing control of the Death Knight next to him in order to avoid having to do so.[3]
  • In Mass for the Dead, Momonga found the mask in his Item Box and wore it for fun before his subordinates.[4]
  • In Pure Pure Pleiades, a rare anniversary edition exists.[5]
  • In Mass for the Dead, the mask was given out as a Relic Item, with a five star rarity. It could increase attack power by 371 and accuracy of the "fire" element. It was presented by the management to users who logged in on December 24, 2019.
