Lizard's Resort (リザーズ・リゾート) is a game event in Mass for the Dead that was released on June 30, 2025 to July 14, 2025.
Background[]
With Renner in charge, the development of the isolated island and archipelagos beyond the [Gate] is underway.
Meanwhile, a certain "request" has been raised by the Lizardmen.
Renner learns that this is due to a phenomenon occurring among them, and so she proposes a plan to Albedo, but...[1]
Incident[]
In a remote island is connected to the mainland by a [Gate]. The region is being developed and investigated by lizardmen and overseen by Renner, who has been entrusted with its management.
Renner is stationed at this base and is responsible for overseeing its development. She reflects on a recent report she received from the lizardmen, indicating that several of them have begun falling ill.
Renner had received reports from the lizardmen working beyond the mist on the nearby islands. She listens to a large lizardman who tells her that more lizardmen are becoming unwell, likely due to the persistent heat and resulting physical exhaustion.
Despite rotating workers and allowing them to rest in the ice chamber, the situation hasn’t improved. Renner, surprised, wonders if the work hours have increased unexpectedly. The lizardman says that’s not the case—then pauses as a realization hits him.
He explains that most of the lizardmen taking breaks in the ice chamber have recently expanded families. Many mated females have given birth recently, and some of the male workers are using their free time to help raise the children. Others even travel back and forth to their village homes on their days off, which leaves them with no real rest. Renner is moved and surprised by this revelation.
Renner back to current day, reflects on the unexpected consequences of the lizardmen’s growing families. She acknowledges that childbirth and parenting are essential for mortal races like the lizardmen—unlike demons, who don’t age or die in the same way. She reasons that due to the Sorcerer Kingdom’s support, which has stabilized food supplies and neutralized threats, the lizardmen now naturally turn their attention toward family and the next generation. This is positive in the long term—more people mean more labor eventually.
However, in the short term, productivity is taking a hit. She considers asking for more undead labor from the Sorcerer Kingdom to balance the workload but hesitates. Merely appealing for help would show weakness in leadership. She feels she needs a stronger, more strategic solution—one that aligns with the Sorcerer Kingdom’s larger policy of integrating and using weaker races like the lizardmen.
Climb, clad in dark armor, walks in quietly, hesitant to interrupt. Renner greets him warmly and invites him to listen to her thoughts. He is surprised but agrees. Renner brings up the lizardmen’s requests and concerns from earlier. She reiterates the two key issues: 1) The rise in childbirth and child-rearing. 2) The imbalance between work and family life that’s now appearing as a result. She acknowledges that both trends are natural and not wrong. Still, something must be done to ensure productivity isn’t lost. She could ask for more labor from the Sorcerer Kingdom—but she wants another solution.
Climb suggests creating another resting place, similar to how nobles and royals have retreats—a kind of family-friendly sanctuary where the lizardmen could rest and spend time with their loved ones. This could relieve the pressure and help them form positive memories as well. Renner is deeply touched by Climb’s idea. She grabs his hand with joy and praises his suggestion. Her eyes shine with happiness. She says that this idea may be the key to creating a proposal acceptable to Albedo, the high-ranking official in the Sorcerer Kingdom.
Climb is relieved and happy to have helped. He silently reflects on how, despite Renner becoming a demon, her gaze and demeanor toward him haven’t changed. He also realizes that even back when she was human, she rarely showed her true self like this. Now, he accepts everything about her—even her inhuman transformation—and still finds himself devoted. Climb wishes that Renner’s warm and direct gaze would never change, no matter how long they live. These emotions—conflicted, affectionate, and possibly romantic—rise within him. Moved, he gently squeezes her hand in return, cherishing the moment.[2]
A few days after receiving a report, Albedo reviews a petition Renner had obtained from the lizardmen. The petition requests the establishment of rest facilities for Lizardmen working on isolated islands, citing that some have fallen ill due to harsh environmental conditions, overwork due to high morale, and an increase in childbirth following improved living standards.
Albedo reflects on this, finding the reasoning a bit unconvincing. She questions whether giving rest truly benefits productivity, or if constant work might actually make the lizardmen feel more at ease. She recalls Lord Momonga’s emphasis on the importance of rest and concludes that the perspective of outsiders regarding labor is vastly different from that of Nazarick’s inhabitants. Albedo decides to personally visit the island to investigate further.
Upon arrival, Albedo is greeted by Renner and Climb. She apologizes for arriving unannounced and expresses her desire to better understand the rationale behind Renner’s proposal—particularly the part about improving work efficiency through rest. Albedo questions why rest is necessary at all, especially when magical items could be used to eliminate fatigue.
Renner, slightly uneasy, explains that the concept of rest isn’t solely about eliminating physical tiredness. Rather, it also serves to rejuvenate motivation and promote mental and emotional renewal, thus improving future work performance. She also points out that many Lizardmen are beginning families, and designated rest periods could support reproduction and childrearing. Renner says, “They could use it for what you might call ‘family planning,’ and for those who already have children, the time spent with family would become something especially precious.”
Albedo immediately becomes intrigued when the term “family planning” is mentioned. She interprets this as creating an opportunity to influence the reproductive behavior of the lizardmen under the guise of equality. More amusingly, she muses that such a framework might also be useful for justifying her own future plans—to bear an heir for Momonga when she becomes his queen.
Internally delighted, Albedo deems the justification reasonable. She compliments Renner’s proposal as an “investment in the future,” appreciating how it aligns with both practical and strategic interests. Albedo smiles, recalling discussing this proposal with Momonga himself, who had reacted positively, saying, “That’s good.”
Though Renner and Climb can’t interpret Albedo’s internal thoughts or her smile, they’re relieved that the proposal is likely to be accepted. In the end, it is decided that a formal investigation involving Albedo will be conducted to explore suitable locations for establishing rest facilities on the islands, marking the beginning of a new policy aimed at supporting the Lizardmen workforce.[3]
The inspection day begins with Renner, Albedo, and an elder lich gathered on the beach of the remote island. Renner greets Albedo respectfully and says she has been awaiting her arrival. Albedo acknowledges her and, wasting no time, asks Renner to go over the day’s itinerary. Renner agrees and begins by unfolding a paper she’s been holding—it’s a map that shows both the current island and surrounding archipelagos. She explains that she’s consolidated the inspection sites and will explain them while Albedo reviews the map.
Renner begins outlining the inspection’s purpose and methodology. She explains that the team will visit various locations to assess their suitability for establishing a rest facility, each chosen based on its alignment with the facility’s intended purpose. The inspection route will begin on the current island and move on to the surrounding isles. After she concludes her explanation, Albedo confirms her understanding, noting that there are multiple potential sites scattered across the area. Renner clarifies that each site has been selected carefully, and they will examine them one by one to determine if they meet the expected criteria. Albedo thanks her, then suddenly brings up something else—she mentions “that thing.”
At this cue, —-the elder lich standing nearby—steps forward and hands over a package to Albedo. Albedo takes it and tells Renner that she received permission from Momonga and brought this item especially for her. She urges Renner to open it. Renner, puzzled and tilting her head, unwraps the package and finds a swimsuit inside. She hesitates and questions whether it’s appropriate. Albedo confirms it is, and reveals she brought several for Renner to choose from. Some are for Renner, others for Albedo herself. Albedo says she wants Renner to pick the ones she believes would appeal to men, and asks her to explain the logic behind her choices.
Renner is visibly startled, uncertain whether this request holds some hidden meaning. She wonders if there’s more behind Albedo’s motives but keeps her thoughts to herself. Then, following Renner’s suggestion for faster travel, they choose to bypass the inland terrain and instead travel by boat around the island to the first inspection site. As they set out, Albedo comments that it will take some time to reach the destination. Renner agrees and explains that the path to the next site is unstable, so the boat is the safest option.
During the boat ride, Albedo reflects on a conversation from a few days earlier. This flashback takes place in the Round Table Room, after Renner initially submitted her proposal via written report. Before Albedo went to meet her in person, she had already drafted a response and then went to discuss the matter with Momonga. In the conversation, Momonga asks if Albedo intends to return Renner’s proposal and instead consider lending a magical item. Albedo affirms, saying a final decision will be made after speaking with Renner directly, but she suspects it will involve rejecting the original plan and offering an alternative. She adds that she’s not sure giving time off is necessary, and expresses concern that allowing rest might make the labor force lazy.
Momonga listens, then replies thoughtfully. He understands her point and even acknowledges that in Nazarick, they sometimes use items to nullify fatigue. Internally, however, he has his own reservations. He thinks it feels wrong to lend powerful items to external workers. Even if physical fatigue can be erased, mental exhaustion cannot be ignored. Worse, using such items could send the wrong message—implying that workers are expected to labor indefinitely without rest.
He goes on to explain that male lizardmen not having time off to help with child-rearing could cause future problems. Drawing from human examples he’s heard of, he notes that when fathers don’t help raise children, it can lead to cold marriages, separation, or even divorce years later. He worries that such personal issues could impact work performance, and although the lizardmen are a different species, he suspects the root emotional effects may be similar.
He concludes that solving the immediate problem with magic items could create bigger problems in the future. Therefore, building a rest facility might be a better long-term investment. It would relieve both physical and mental fatigue and give workers time with their families. He adds that since the lizardmen working on the island are essentially living away from home, providing a family-friendly place could prevent household problems. Momonga even considers that the resort could later be used for diplomacy—perhaps to host the “sisters” who are already friendly toward the Sorcerer Kingdom. He suggests that such a facility could strengthen that goodwill. Albedo listens silently, absorbing his insight, and when he finishes, she simply repeats his words: an investment in the future.
Back in the present, as the boat approaches the beach, Albedo continues to reflect. She notes that she had gone to report to Momonga just after receiving Renner’s proposal, before speaking to Renner herself. Yet Momonga had already seen through Renner’s intentions. His comment about the facility being an investment implied that he understood the broader benefits—supporting family life, encouraging reproduction—without needing a direct explanation from Renner. Albedo feels humbled and deeply impressed by his insight, privately acknowledging that such brilliance leaves her no choice but to admire him.
Suddenly, she’s interrupted as the summon steering the boat alerts her—they’ve reached the beach. But there’s a problem: two Giant Crustaceans and a Giant Mollusk are occupying the landing area. The summon suggests detouring, but Albedo declines. She says she’s grown bored during the boat ride and that this unexpected challenge is a welcome bit of excitement. She instructs them to continue forward and prepare to intercept the creatures once they’re close enough. With the boat continuing toward shore, Albedo prepares to disembark and meet the threat head-on, the inspection journey already turning out to be far more complex—and layered—than it seemed at first glance.[4]
On the island’s beach, Climb had just finished cutting down two enormous crustaceans and a giant mollusk. As he sheathed his sword, he heard a voice commending him on his efforts. It was Albedo, who had appeared wearing a striking red bikini, complimenting him on his performance. Climb bowed respectfully, addressing her as Lady Albedo and asking if Lady Renner was safe. At that moment, Renner stepped into view, dressed in a modest white bikini, and assured him she was unharmed. Climb expressed his relief, and the three of them began to walk inland, continuing their inspection of the island.
As they moved deeper into the island, they encountered only minor monster attacks, which they avoided with ease. Eventually, they arrived at a rocky coastline, their first inspection point. Albedo observed the area, commenting on its unremarkable appearance. Internally, she questioned what could possibly be planned for such a terrain, which seemed only suitable for building a small shack. Renner agreed that the area was too rocky for major construction or efficient fishing, but noted that it attracted many fish, making it ideal for recreational fishing. She suggested setting up a nearby area for cooking and enjoying the catch, believing it would be a waste not to take advantage of the natural features.
Renner recalled a seaside town in the Kingdom, E-Naeurl, known for its seafood and a famous dish called Naeurl-yaki. Climb recognized the name, and Renner confirmed it had been ruled by Count Naeura. The town had specialized in grilled fish glazed with a special sauce, though it had recently been evacuated due to a Chaos Beast attack. Despite the somber memory, Renner proposed that fishing and cooking for recreation, not duty, could be a meaningful form of rest. Albedo pondered the distinction between play and work, realizing that the same activity could have different meanings depending on intent.
After inspecting the rocky coastline, the group was led to another part of the beach, this one sandy and calm, quite different from the previous location. Albedo noted the change and remarked that the area seemed well-suited for swimming. Renner confirmed this and added that the spot was also ideal for surfing. Curious, Albedo asked about surfing, and Renner suggested seeing it firsthand would be quicker than explaining. She then called on a large lizardman who had been waiting nearby. He bowed and carried a surfboard more than twice his height down to the water.
Albedo, watching in puzzlement, wondered if the board was used for swimming. Renner, smiling, said it was about to begin. Before she could finish speaking, the lizardman launched himself onto the waves, skillfully riding them on the board. Albedo asked if this was what surfing was, and Renner confirmed it, explaining that it was a game involving riding waves on an oversized board. Albedo found it odd that they would deliberately choose such an unstable method rather than using a boat, wondering if there was a deeper reason for the choice.
Once the demonstration was over, the lizardman returned, and Renner thanked him for his impressive performance. Albedo echoed her sentiment, saying it was a marvelous sight. The lizardman humbly responded, explaining that he had first learned about surfing in a conversation with the protagonist and decided to try it. He had since grown fond of it and now sought out good waves whenever he had free time, finding it to be an excellent way to refresh himself. He had never expected, however, that Renner would take notice of it.
Albedo silently recalled that she had authorized experiments to see if outsiders could acquire specialized skills through games, and although the lizardman’s technique was still unrefined, the results were worth monitoring. She then turned to Renner and asked if that was why this location had been proposed. Renner confirmed that during his report, she had learned of good surfing locations and saw additional potential in the area. Albedo asked what other uses she had in mind. Renner pointed out the dense growth of trees, suggesting hammocks could be hung between them as resting places. Albedo clarified if she meant hanging beds, and Renner said they could be made by weaving bark and vines if the materials were gathered. Albedo agreed that Mare could procure the materials, though the issue of who would construct them remained.
As the discussion continued, Albedo reflected on the value of physical activities like fishing and surfing when done with intervals of rest. She began to understand the merit of leisure as a form of recovery, and as she conversed with Renner, she became more deeply intrigued by the idea of recreation for the sake of rest.[5]
After watching a surfing demonstration by the lizardman, Renner, Albedo, and Climb continue their inspection and arrive at a beachside location. Renner explains that, due to the proximity to the coast and sandy terrain, this area is planned for the construction of lodging facilities. The design includes separate cabins for individuals and families, aiming to encourage interaction among companions and kin. Although more luxurious inns, similar to those in human cities, would be ideal in other contexts, Renner states that the plan is to tailor the design to the liizardmen’s living standards. This choice is intentional; introducing excessively comfortable environments could lead to negative comparisons and lower satisfaction with their daily lives once they return. Albedo understands and agrees, recognizing that giving lower lifeforms a sense of inferiority could inadvertently disrupt their reproductive drive, which is the core objective of the resort.
Internally, Albedo reflects on how even base creatures can be emotionally influenced by their surroundings. Though she admits that, unlike them, her mood never diminishes in the presence of Momonga—in fact, it only soars. Lost in fantasy, she imagines herself in her private quarters filled with Momonga plushies, clad in leather reminiscent of her creator Tabula, and sharing an intimate moment with him in only his bath towel. When fantasy-Momonga tries to return to work, she clings to him emotionally, but he gently explains that he must tend to his duties so their time together can be meaningful. This fantasy fills Albedo with giddy excitement.
Snapped back to reality on the beach, Albedo visibly trembles. Renner notices and addresses her, prompting Albedo to quickly regain her composure, apologizing for her brief lapse. She returns to the conversation, acknowledging the importance of minimizing any obstacles to the lizardmen’s reproduction. The discussion then turns to the accommodations being built, which will resemble the rustic structures familiar to the lizardmen, such as log houses. Albedo casually asks how Renner and Climb are adjusting to their own log cabin life, which catches them off guard. Renner nervously shares that she often watches Climb’s training and occasionally participates in joint drills with the lizardmen. She once requested to join a session but was stopped by Climb out of concern for her safety, which led to a minor disagreement. As Renner begins to recount the details, Climb becomes flustered and tries to stop her, but Albedo encourages her to continue. The moment marks the origin of a unique combat technique developed collaboratively by the two demonic women.
Later, aboard a ship headed for the final inspection site—the islands—the group reflects on their plans. Albedo asks what proposal Renner has in mind for this last location. Renner outlines a new idea: establishing hunting grounds that double as training zones. After prior purges by Albedo and Narberal, life has slowly begun to return to the islands. Migratory creatures and predatory monsters have started to repopulate the previously chaotic terrain. While this ecological rebound is positive, unchecked growth could hinder future operations. Weaker yet fast-breeding species have formed clusters that Renner believes can be used for training. The plan is to create controlled hunting areas where lizardmen can engage in recreational combat, which also serves a social and biological function.
One lizardman notes that these grounds could help male lizardmen demonstrate their strength to females, further contributing to mating and reproduction. Albedo sees the practicality of this idea—it avoids costly monster summoning and is budget-friendly. She approves the plan and offers to evaluate the local monster levels herself. Renner agrees and promises to guide her through the area.
As digging begins on the beach, the trio oversees the work. Albedo suddenly proposes that Renner take part in combat training while they are there. Since Renner is also a demon, Albedo sees this as an opportunity for her to learn how their kind fights. Renner lights up with enthusiasm and happily accepts the offer, stating that it’s more than she could have hoped for. Climb, however, is visibly shocked and concerned, but Renner confidently assures him of her readiness and looks forward to the training experience.[6]
The scene opens on a tense battlefield along a beach where two massive crustaceans and a slime creature surge ashore. The threat is immediate and visceral, as the monsters are described as being brutally slain—suggesting a harsh, fast-paced combat encounter. As the initial wave is defeated, another group of enemies begins to rise from the sea, signaling that the danger is far from over. In this moment, Albedo—clad in her battle attire—issues a sharp command to Renner, signaling it is her turn to act. Renner, now transformed into a demonic being, responds with firm resolve, calling out to Albedo respectfully before charging into battle. Utilizing her newfound powers, Renner unleashes a ferocious attack and manages to take down the new wave of enemies on her own, swiftly dispatching both the crustaceans and the slime.
After the skirmish ends, Renner is left breathless and panting, evidence of both the effort exerted and the emotional weight of what she’s just done. Albedo approaches and praises her, noting that Renner’s performance was outstanding—so much so that it was hard to believe she had little to no experience in real combat. Blushing, Renner humbly thanks her superior, explaining that it was entirely due to Albedo’s personal instruction that she was able to perform so well. She bows her head and expresses deep gratitude, emphasizing how much the opportunity meant to her.
Albedo, showing rare warmth but keeping her usual commanding tone, reassures Renner not to be so formal. She observes that although Renner hasn’t had many chances to fight, she already possesses the core abilities needed for battle. The only thing missing is actual combat experience, which, Albedo points out, is precisely the purpose of this training. Internally, Albedo reflects that Renner’s quick learning and responsiveness are impressive. Despite usually being protected by her devoted knight Climb, Renner clearly isn’t unsuited for battle. Albedo muses that perhaps Renner’s royal pride refuses to be satisfied with merely being guarded—she wishes to be someone of real worth to the Sorcerer Kingdom.
However, Albedo also silently notes her concern: if Renner grows too confident and reckless, she might squander the “intellect” they so carefully nurtured in her. Yet, Albedo ultimately dismisses that fear. She believes Renner has already proven herself too pragmatic and intelligent to act recklessly. If anything, a self-sufficient and capable Renner has even greater utility, especially as a strategic asset rather than a mere figurehead. At this point, Renner bows once more and thanks Albedo, who gently nods, signaling that she need not worry.
Off to the side, Climb watches everything. His gaze is intense but unreadable. Albedo picks up on it and questions aloud, noticing his reaction. Renner turns to Climb and asks if something is wrong. Climb stiffens and quickly responds that it’s nothing, attempting to brush off his reaction with a formal bow. Yet his eyes linger.
Later, when Renner asks him directly for his opinion, Climb admits that her combat skills were truly impressive—matching what even Albedo had said. He agrees that her movements showed no hesitation or awkwardness, and he was honestly awestruck. Renner is thrilled to hear this from him, her joy clearly tied not just to success in battle but to Climb’s approval. Albedo watches this exchange silently, internally noting that Renner may be using her newfound strength not just to serve the nation, but to emotionally influence Climb. Albedo sees this as a clever, manipulative tactic—a fitting move for someone she silently calls a “little imp.”
Following the battle, the setting shifts back to the Great Tomb of Nazarick. Albedo, having completed the inspection of the new facilities, returns to report directly to the Sorcerer King, Momonga. She stands before him in her formal attire, maintaining her composed and elegant demeanor. Her report details the proposed plans for rest and recreation facilities that go beyond simple leisure. These plans incorporate practical benefits such as skill acquisition through structured games and simulation-based training, aimed at improving the effectiveness of both internal and external personnel.
Momonga listens thoughtfully, noting that the breadth of the proposals exceeded his expectations. Some even offered dual-purpose benefits: rest and rehabilitation for races like the Lizardmen, while also addressing social infrastructure like controlled breeding and childrearing. He acknowledges that while some of these benefits are still speculative, the overall strategy is sound.
Albedo then brings up one proposal in particular—family planning—which was apparently suggested or inspired by Renner. She cautiously inquires about Momonga’s stance on applying such a system across other species. Her tone subtly shifts, and the conversation becomes emotionally charged. Momonga begins to falter, mentally rattled by the implications. He hadn’t given deep thought to the reproductive policies of the different races under Nazarick’s influence, much less how they might tie into personal matters like choosing a consort or fostering royal bloodlines.
Albedo presses the issue further, suggesting that family planning might become part of the trials or qualifications for selecting a queen—an “ordeal of love,” as she frames it. Her words grow more emotionally invested, bordering on romantic obsession. This causes Momonga to panic internally, and just as the tension threatens to escalate, two Eight-Edge Assassins crash down from the ceiling. Recognizing Albedo’s behavior as uncharacteristically emotional, they declare that she has lost her composure and prepare to restrain her for the Sorcerer King’s sake. Momonga, utterly embarrassed, mentally curses the situation and realizes he may have underestimated just how deeply certain subjects—especially romantic or reproductive ones—can spiral when Albedo is involved.
Aftermath[]
Around the same time, Renner and Climb return to their quarters following the inspection and combat training. Renner is now dressed again in her modest black dress, a stark contrast to the battle-ready appearance she had earlier. She sighs with relief, commenting on the end of a long and stressful day. Climb responds with formality, thanking her and expressing concern over how exhausting it must have been—especially given the unplanned combat session.
Renner reflects on the experience, noting that despite the strain, the training was a valuable opportunity. She acknowledges that for her to continue being useful to the Sorcerer Kingdom, especially now as a demon, she must grow stronger and more capable. Climb, however, is emotionally conflicted. His thoughts reveal a growing sense of unease. He remembers how Renner looked during the fight—radiant, fierce, almost divine. He was captivated by her, awestruck by her power, but also deeply unsettled. He begins to question his own place in her life. If she has become this powerful, what role does he still serve? Will she eventually outgrow him and no longer need his protection?
Renner notices his troubled expression and gently presses him to open up. Climb initially denies anything is wrong but eventually confesses that he was spellbound by her combat performance—comparing her to a goddess of war. Yet this admiration is mixed with fear: he worries that as Renner continues to rise in strength and significance, he might be left behind.
Renner, visibly moved, embraces him and reassures him with an emotional confession. She explains that as a demon and servant of the Sorcerer Kingdom, she no longer has the luxury of staying weak or relying solely on others. However, it is precisely because Climb is by her side—always protecting her—that she has the courage to pursue strength. His presence gives her the stability and emotional support that allows her to grow. She then asks for his blessing to continue becoming stronger, not to surpass him, but to stay close to him—to never be torn apart by the difference in power or station.
As she speaks, her internal monologue reveals her true motivation: Renner does not seek strength for power’s sake. She desires to lock this moment, this bond with Climb, into something eternal. Her transformation into a demon has altered her body, but her obsessive love remains. She will become stronger, not to be free or dominant, but to bind herself to Climb forever. She fears that if she doesn’t evolve, she may lose him. And so, she asks him not just for support, but for permission—to change, to grow, to become something monstrous if it means staying with him.
Climb, caught between awe and confusion, hesitates but ultimately returns the embrace. In his heart, he still clings to his devotion to Renner, even as her words carry the weight of both deep affection and a quiet, possessive madness.[7]
