Lions (獅子 (しし) ) are feline creatures that were found in YGGDRASIL and the New World.

Appearance

A large carnivorous quadrupedal animal. Males are usually depicted with a mane of fur.

Abilities

Lions were known to be hunters. Based on a book in Ashurbanipal, Lion Cub, it is said lions are harsh towards their offspring, with a lioness willing to pushed her children into an abysmal valley in a lesson of seeking strength through the power of love and overcoming trials.

Trivia

• Some items and even characters in Overlord have lion motifs such as the Nemean Lion and Lion Golem.
• In E-Rantel, when Clementine dodged bumping into Zach in the alley, the latter berated her for the near miss, but he retreated after seeing her cold smile, a reaction described by the author akin to a lion glaring at a mouse. The same comparison was made by Shalltear Bloodfallen, when she encountered Black Scripture and compared them to Brita's Adventurer Team. And also in the Web Novel, by members of Ijaniya when they attempted to assassinate Ainz.
• In the Treasury there is a mated pair of a male and female lion statuettes, carved from ruby and sapphire respectively.
• During Shalltear's duel with Ainz Ooal Gown, the vampire saw herself as the lion while her opponent was the rabbit, which was disappointing to her as both of them were suppose to be lions in the fight.
• The tier spell, [Lion's Heart] provides fear resistance.
• Certain monsters in Overlord like the Chimera have the paws of a lion. And the Cherubim Gatekeeper which has a head of a lion. Cerberus which has lion-like heads. And the Komainu.
• Zero has a lion tattoo on his head.
• The Goblin Troop being Enri Emmot's subordinates took hunting for the village and always delivered the lion's share to her home.
• The Baharuth Empire has been compared as a lion by Emperor Jircniv Rune Farlord El-Nix, though he lamented it was nothing when compared to the existence of Ainz Ooal Gown and Nazarick which was a dragon.
• Ainz Ooal Gown having gone to a cemetery to meet the Zurrernorn cult called it walking into the lion's den.
• Rangobart Eck Waria Roberbad when being in Ainz Ooal Gown's team along with Jet Testania felt as if he was in the lion's den.
• In the Web Novel, Nigun when meeting the Captain of the Black Scripture felt difference between them was like a human and a lion.
• Ainz Ooal Gown once hosted a planetarium show in the Amphitheater. Among the stars show was the constellation of Leo the Lion.
