Isabella (イザベラ) is a demon from Mass for the Dead.
Appearance[]
In her human form, Isabella appears as a busty dark purple long-haired woman with some streaks of white. She wears a golden necklace with a ruby, and a dark corset-like dress that reveals much of her cleavage and belly. On her hands she has cover sleeves. In her demon form, Isabella sprouts crude wicked horns and a pair of bat-like wings at her waist.
Personality[]
Though having a luscious appearance, Isabella hides a sinister nature. She is a sadistic demon that thinks of humans as nothing more than food or toys, taking delight in their misery and despair as she kills them during her feedings. The demon seems to be very confident on her abilities, deeming herself to be above those she considers prey.
Background[]
Isabella was an immigrant from outside E-Rantel. At one point she became a business associate with Cocco Doll and she received ownership of the Black Honeymooner from him, so the authorities would not suspect the criminal's involvement. All the while she has been the cause of several disappearances of employees at the brothel.
Chronology[]
Mass for the Dead Arc[]

Isabella was first introduced as being a hostess to Sebas Tian for all expense paid session at her brothel provided by his co-workers from the quarry. She guided the undercover Nazarick agent to a room and introduced him to a woman named Tuare. She later had a secret meeting with the original owner of the brothel and gave her report on the management of the "goods" in the shop. When Saint Clementine and the protagonist's team are pursuing one of Cocco Doll's minions, she cancels all the reservations at the shop due to the disturbance and tells Tuare and her employers to get ready to move.
Later, she is seen brutally torturing several of her female employees in her private dungeon while Tuare looks on in horror as she devours them one by one. The protagonist's team and Sebas Tian return to the brothel and discover the secret passageway leading to the sewers. Following it, they find a hidden room there where the team find Isabella and her victims. Based on the carnage and her glowing eyes, the protagonist and his comrades determine that she is not human. Having no reason to hide herself anymore, Isabella reveals herself as a demon. The sight of a native demon to the New World intrigues the Nazarick agents who then decide to capture her for their master. The demon tries to use Tuare as a hostage to force their cooperation, but she is knocked away from the girl by Sebas Tian with a punch. Angered by the attack, the demon swears to make the old man pay. Unfortunately, the demon finds herself at the butler's mercy as he proceeds to pummel her with punches. Shaken at how she could be so weak before this "human," Isabella used [Charm Person] and specially made incense on Sebas Tian. Believing that the butler is now seemingly under her power, she gloats at the adventurers that it's over for them. Before she can command Sebas Tian to attack his allies, Tuare places herself between Isabella and Sebas begging her to stop. Intrigued to her sudden boost in confidence despite ignoring all her co-workers pleas for help, Isabella sees that the girl has fallen in love with Sebas Tian.
Though she mocks at the girl's hypocrisy, the girl admits her own selfishness, but she is now willing to die to protect someone who cares about her. Unimpressed, the demon tells Sebas to get rid of her. To Isabella's utter shock, Sebas Tian merely strokes Tuare's head commenting on her bravery, revealing how he was never under her power in the first place as he was a heteromorph and not a human to begin with. The demon seeing herself totally outmatched attempted to escape into the sewers, with Soi in pursuit.
Later on, the official story told by the adventurers to the freed Tuare and the survivors was that Isabella escaped. Of course, it was nothing more than a fabrication to hide the fact that Isabella was captured by Soi, containing the demon in her slime body to be transported back to the Great Tomb of Nazarick for a proper interrogation on her unusual technique to enhance a simple spell.[1]
The memory of the demon would still be recollected by Tuare. Tuare being concerned for her friend who had also worked at the brothel, was a mother whose child had disappeared. Tuare remembered that Isabella didn't always throw out pregnant girls from the brothel. According to that demon, she made sure all the babies would be "taken care of". Though Tuare suspected that the demon had something more sinister involved for the women and children.[2]
Abilities and Powers[]
Isabella is able to take a human form to hide her horns and wings. The disguise is flawless however it can wear off, especially her eyes, when she is distracted from eating. Being a heteromorph she has displayed traits fitting for a demon, able to rip and shred human flesh with just her nails and bare hands.
Active[]
- Charm Person: The spell could be caused by the charmed target to see the user as their best friend. And as their friend, the user's words had a certain amount of effect on that person. However, since this was only a low-level charm spell, it could not brain-wash the target.
Main Equipment[]
- Incense: A sweet scent that Isabella specially made that enhances her [Charm Person] spell. The effect of this combination is so great that it cannot be resisted by magic or even an item and even pushes the limits of what the spell can do such as having a target obey to the point of committing suicide. The only drawbacks are that there is a time limit of controlling a target and that it cannot be used on the same person more than once.

Cocco Doll[]
Isabella was a business associate of Cocco Doll and was aware of his past as the head of the slave trade department in Eight Fingers. She was cordial to him and kept him in the loop of his original property's operations during their secret meetings. However, it appears that the former Executive was in the dark on her being a demon or her activities in feeding on the brothel staff.
Sebas Tian[]
Originally thinking that he was just a nosey old man, after she faced him in battle, she realized how wrong she was about him. By her estimate he was at the peak of human potential in strength.
Tuare[]
To her human employee she saw her as just another food or toy to torment. Calling her a stupid girl that enslaved herself to a non-existent debt contract. She openly mocked Tuare for her lack of power and weakness in helping anyone.
Trivia[]
- Isabella is the first native demoness from the New World to appear in the Overlord franchise.
- According to Cocco Doll, the Black Honeymooner was originally established in the Royal Capital before moving to E-Rantel. Though it has not been confirmed, Isabella may have come from Re-Estize and been a long-time acquaintance of the Executive. This could explain why he sold her the brothel, showing how much trust he had for Isabella in her management.
- From her appearance, Isabella could be a succubus, though it is unconfirmed.
- It was said that Isabella did not discard women who had become pregnant, unlike most brothel owners, as she claimed to "take care of them." Which either indicated that the mother and child were disposed of or that the children were sold into slavery, however it is unconfirmed.[2]
