In Search of My Own Resort (私だけのリゾートを求めて) is a game event in Mass for the Dead that was released on June 30, 2024 to July 14, 2024. The event was re-released from July 7, 2025 to July 16, 2025.[1]
Background[]
A small problem occurs in the marshes where the lizardmen live. A request is made to Sophie, an expert on slimes, to investigate the abnormality in the water quality.
Sophie, who is willing to put in a lot of time and effort into her research despite the strain it causes, is also looking for a way to refresh her mind.[2]
Incident[]
Some time after it was predicted that the re-creation of the internal workings of the Melting Pot would be key in removing the contamination of the Kingdom's Warrior Chief, Gazef Stronoff, research was continuing as usual at the E-Rantel Magic Research Institute. There a feral Gazef banging against a cage is viewed by Sophie Noia who comments on his excited behavior. The researcher talks to Gazef out of boredom, still hopefully she can rework some of her theories.
Sophie is joined by her former master, Fluder Paradyne, who finds it deplorable for Gazef to be reduced to such a state. It seems that no matter how skilled a warrior may be, no matter how noble one's soul is, one is no different from an animal in the face of contamination. Sophie sadly agrees that is true, but looks on the bright side of being able to work with Fluder again.
While the flattery is nice to the old wizard, Fluder is concerned for her as she has been hanging around the laboratory for a prolong period of time. Sophie does not mind as besides the dampness, finds the institute to be an ideal research environment, even though the Imperial research lab that her master Fluder headed was more comfortable.
Fluder having been meaning to tell Sophie this, asks her not to refer him as master, and instead use his actual name after she left his laboratory in the Empire, as they are now collaborators. Sophie is humored as the wizard is referring to the Lord Paradyne title she gave him after she left him. Still she regards Fluder as her respected teacher, and still wishes to call him that as they continue to work together. The old wizard allows Sophie to do as she like, before informing her that the other researchers will be arriving soon. And while it is a bit early, he decides to start the experiment that had planned for today.
The experiment involves in recreating the effects of the Melting Pot by dissolving Chaos Beasts. They proceed with the experiment by having a wolf-type Chaos Beast merge with a slime in front of Gazef. Sophie expects that the monster will be melted by the slime. The two are joined by Nfirea Bareare who greets them good morning. Sophie welcomes the director of the institute before asking if he could add more Chaos Beasts into the experiment, which the boy promises to arrange.
Sophie declares the experiment a failure as the contamination has not yet been removed, and wonders if perhaps a small number of Chaos Beasts is not enough. Fluder thinks perhaps maybe that other countless issues might be involved like quantity, quality, the condition, the size or even the difficulty of the Chaos Beast. The situation is troubling to Sophie and a lot of work, as they cannot move Gazef to the site of the Melting Pot.
The Chaos Beast in the slime acid soon dies, finally melting, which Sophie jokingly calls the first Slime Special Chaos Beasts Potage Soup. Nfirea is not discouraged and believes that they can move onto the next experiment, by using a different species of Chaos Beast. Sophie after trying to engage Gazef in a conversation fails, agrees to the idea, leading to Nfirea to make arrangements. Sophie is still disappointed but it can't be helped as she lack data on what factors could lead to decontamination. However she resolves that they must eliminate each factor one by one to get the answer. Her former master agrees for the sake of Gazef, and by extension for the Sorcerer Kingdom.
Outside in the E-Rantel's Cemetery, Soi, Surako, and the protagonist have entered the premises. Soi hopes that the results of the experiments and verifications to recreate the environment inside the Melting Pot will lead to some good news. Surako states that Fluder had promised to let them know of any results the next time they visited, and is hopeful of some big progress. The sentiment is shared by the rest of her companions. Although the protagonist expects that the institute's work to create the effects of the Melting Pot is not that easy, as the researchers will have to check on every single condition in as many combinations as there are stars in the sky to get the same results.
They find the tomb which leads to the underground laboratory. They find the lobby area to be empty, but Soi thinks that the researchers are just busy working on Gazef Stronoff. Before they can go down to the basement level, Nfirea appears. Upon noticing them the director apologizes for not greeting them at once as he was busy with paperwork. Seeing as they are here to check on the institute's progress, Nforea ushers them to Sophie who is continuing to observe the dissolved Chaos Beasts and compare her hypotheses.
Nfirea reports that so far, the contamination has not been removed. There have bee some cases where the subject have temporarily regained consciousness. Unfortunately, there have ben not notable results or progress. Surako is disappointed as it sounds like they are facing failure and at a dead end. But she notices that Sophie seems more and more determined. Nfirea replies that even if the results pf the new experiment turns out to be a failure, it will add to valuable data that explains why the experiment failed. From that, the researchers can discover factors that can be inferred and guidelines for conducting new experiments. So, even if it is a failure, it is just one step on the way to success.
Soi understands what Nfirea is saying, seeing it's a good thing that they are trying their best, but asks if the researchers are taking care of their health? Surako comments that even though it's the morning, everyone seems to be working for hours, pointing out the discards cups and half-finished papers everywhere in the lab. Soi then asks how everyone has been doing, wondering if the mess was from the previous day. Nifrea explains that they clean up the laboratory at the end of the day and work from morning onwards, save for Sophie who was staying overnight for a while.
This draws a red flag from the protagonist as they cannot have experts like Sophie collapse as it would slow down progress, so asks that they make sure everyone gets plenty of rest in order to conduct efficient research. To herself Suarko believes the protagonist could do with some rest himself. Nifrea also wants to do something, but feels if there is currently no progress and asking them to take a break will leave her frustrated.
The adventurers later leave the institute, heading to the gate of the cemetery. Soi asks her teammates if the researcgers looked okay to them. The protagonist expresses concern, but it seems that forcing them to take a break will only cause her to accumulate mental stress. He'd like to think of some way to deal with this. However before he can go on any further, several skeletons appear barring their way. The adventurers seeing the undead are glad to see them as they can now do what they officially came to do at the cemetery. Using culling undead at the graveyard they can effectively keep the existence of the research institute a secret. The trio they prepare for battle to eliminate the undead.
When the protagonist returned to the Great Tomb of Nazarick from E-Rantel, he reported the current state of the E-Rantel Magic Research Institute to Momonga and the other Floor Guardians. Momonga listens to the protagonist suggestion of preparing a place where the researchers can rest. In particular Sophie Noia, who is the center of the research, has been stick at the lab for days on end, immersed in her research with barely any sleep. If things continue like this, some people might collapse from exhaustion.
Momonga agrees that this is a problem, as the research they conduct is important to Nazarick. If they were to fall here, there's no telling how much of a loss it would cause. They need to allow the researchers to rest freely and sufficiently, as this will ultimately lead to a faster success rate in their research. There is actually one problem, according to the protagonist. Some researchers will take a rest if you tell them to, but forcing someone like Sophie Noia to take a rest can cause stress and defeat the purpose.
While it’s good to find joy in their work, Momonga understands and can relate as he internally notes that he has this same problem with the denizens in Nazarick.
Unfortunately other like Shalltear, Aura and Mare disagrees as they believe that the human is quite a reasonable for committing to her work. Likening it to understanding the feeling of wanting to work for Momonga. Hearing these comments make Momonga vow once again to never allow Nazarick to turn into a black company.
Cocytus remarks that humans are fragile creatures. And yet, as Momonga has commanded, there is no way to rest. If just letting the humans rest is causing stress, Albedo suggests how about giving them a way to relax. The idea sounds refreshing to Momonga. By directing the researchers attention to something else, Demiurge believes they may be able to find new clues or perspectives for their research. So, in order to reduce the burden on the researchers, the protagonist would like to ask for Momonga’s permission for him and Slimeko to assist with the experiments while Sophie Noia is absent.
That's fine to Momonga. But considering that this may have an impact on another researcher, and the protagonist already being overworked, Momonga asks Solution to accompany them as to stop himself from worrying about their health. This way everyone on the scene should look out for each other and make sure nothing unexpected happens. The undercover adventurers acknowledges Momonga’s concern. No sooner did Momonga was about to give an order to head out, he received a [Message] from Entoma with an urgent matter to discuss with him. The insect maid reports that she received a call from a summon who is monitoring the lizardmen village and it seems that some kind of trouble has occurred within the settlement.
Momonga grows alert at this asking if it is an enemy attack or anything like that. However, according to Entoma the details are unclear. Momonga wanting more information then decides to send someone to check on them. Normally he would send the adventurer team out, but as he just allowed the protagonist and the others to assist with experiments at the institute he is at an impasse.
Albedo asks what is wrong, which he responds that he has received a [Message] from Entoma that there is trouble brewing at the lizardmen village and that he is unsure on who to send. The Overseer Guardian recommends Lupusregina and CZ as they are currently on their way back and planning to go to the Empire today. It should be no issue for them to stop by the village and investigate. Momonga is relieved as the pair came back in just the right time and agrees giving her the order to send the pair there.[3]
Lupusregina and CZ head out to the lizardmen village, donning in their worker equipment. They arrive at the southern end of the lake were the settlement is located. Shasuryu Shasha who is waiting for them greets them, surprised that they came by. Since they are on another job, Lupusregina proceeds with the investigation, first by asking if anything unusual has happened or has bothered the lizardmen. CZ states that they heard from a summon that something was amiss in the area. The lizardman oblivious to the surveillance of his people by the Sorcerer Kingdom, takes this as a sign that the nation were thinking about his people's well-being, expressing his gratitude. Lupusregina tells him not worry about it, and asks the chieftain is there is anything strange happening. \
Shasuryu does not think it's a big deal, but the quality of the water in the village has recently been changing. For some reason it is not getting hit as it used to be, and there aren't any abnormalities or damage like the cold waves, but there are people making a fuss, thinking it to be a bad omen.
CZ looking around sees only mud and nothing odd. Shasuryu explains to the Pleiades that the lake is shaped like a gourd. They are currently in the southern end which is a mix of lake and wetland, but the larger lake is located at the top and is deeper. The fish farming ponds that Zaryusu runs is located a little further away from the settlement and close to the deeper part of the lake.
Zaryusu appears at the right time, and after being informed by Lupusregina that the Sorcerer Kingdom came to check on the lizardmen after hearing there was something amiss. The former traveler having just come from his farms reported that his fish appear to be fine. However, the young fish seem to be strangely active, as if the taste of the water has changed. Lupusregina and CZ find this news odd, though cannot the taste of the water due to not possessing their swimsuits. CZ believes that it would be best to investigate around the lake even though they cannot enter it.
Zaryusu and Shasuryu are grateful for any help the two can do in their investigation. Zaryusu mentioning that Crusch and the other women were also worried about the health of the children in the village during this time. The two undercover workers then see themselves off to investigate the boundaries of the lake.
During their patrol, they encounter a Giant Beetle, which they slay, but not before noticing that it was a Contaminated Beast. It is one of many beasts they fought, and the two comment that they seemed pretty energetic, which they surmise is because they came from the lake. They continue to investigate around the lake, with the sunset coming soon. They work is aided by the summons that are in the area. After they are satisfied the they have covered the entire lake, the Pleiades dismiss the summons back to their watery posts.
The investigation was fairly quick according to Lupusregina, despite the size of the lake. And also by the summons who were station there. Still from the soil survey, nothing out of the ordinary came up making the two understand less of what is going on in the area. Lupusregina thinks they need to do a deeper scrutiny of the lake by going into the water. However since the sun is about to set, and the two have already taken too much time. If they remain then their undercover identities will be at risk leading to their boss Zero in asking questions on their whereabouts due to caring about New Six Arms. Lupusregina believes its best to report to Momonga and then head to the Empire next. CZ suddenly notices that a fish jumped on the surface of the water in the lake. Lupusregina tries to see what her sister saw, and spies that part of the lake surface is rising. Seeing this new development CZ realizes that they need to report this to Momonga immediately.[4]
The results of Lupusregina and CZ's on-site investigation were promptly passed to Nazarick. At the Round Table Room, Momonga holds another meeting with his Floor Guardians to discuss the report. Apparently the maids have discovered a mysterious bump coming out of the water opposite from the shore. From their vantage point it looked like a monster disguised as water. Demiurge analyzes this news, stating that by disguising itself as water, it would have a great advantage for preying on fish and other creatures. At the same time it is plausible survival strategy for monsters and other creatures.
Momonga thinks so too, further more the target dived underwater and was lost while Lupusregina was trying to continue observing it. She and CZ wanted to continue their investigation, but since they were on their way to the Empire, Momonga sent them there quickly. He finds it a city that they did not have swimsuits to continue their investigation. Although possessing such items would have been a hindrance to their undercover identities.
Demiurge replies that both maids requested that further investigation be done. That being said, Demiurge wonders if this monster is affecting the Great Lake's water quality. Momonga finds it very possible, as it is an event that has never been observed before. They need to send someone else to investigate, so Momonga directs the groups attention of deciding who they should send in a natural environment. He thus includes Mare and thinks he could handle it even his swimsuit and be able to response to unforeseen circumstances.
Momonga agrees with his followers, though the main issue on his mind is that this investigation requires water quality testing hence the need for a similar camouflaged monster. He knows all too well that Nazarick has a slime monster of its own, an Abyssal Slime, Guren which hides in the lava of the 7th Floor. Though Miyoshi would be more suited given the slime's coloring. Demiurge having thought first exactly what his liege is suggesting, believes that they should leave the task to someone who is skilled in handling slimes and researching them. Albedo guesses that person to be Sophie Noia of the E-Rantel Magic Research Institute. Demiurge adds that in order to improve the efficiency of the research institute, Momonga intends to allow Sophie to rest by sending her to the lake.
Momonga taking awhile to consider this, admits that this plan of "his" is right as he wanted the human woman to refresh herself and at the same time provide some new insight into her research. Given Lupusregina, CZ and the summons' preliminary investigation, there is no danger other than the slime in the lake. Furthermore if the protagonist accompanies her, there will likely be no friction with Mare. Albedo states that is a wise decision, given Sophies quirky personality, but with Mare the human should be able to prioritize working. As if left with Slimeko alone, it may be difficult to create a refreshing situation, so why not bring someone who is skilled in handling the researcher? Albedo volunteers Solution to come along as the maid could support Mare in battle.
Momonga tells Albedo to make preparations. Demiurge raises that there is a possibility that Sophie may come in contact with the lizardmen during the investigation of the lakeside. What should they do in that case? Momonga considers Demiurge's question. As of now the relationship between the Sorcerer Kingdom and the lizardmen is kept secret from the outside world. Even Momonga is not sure, but at this pointing mulling it over about it alone does not suffice. Nazarick needs the opinion of someone who has worked closely with the humans to get a sense of her person. In the end it is left to the protagonist to deal with Sophie if that situation occurs since he is more familiar with her. Momonga privately feels bad for burdening the homunculus, but takes solace that at least this little excursion will help refresh his trusted servant.
Back at the institute, the protagonist visiting again telling Sophie about needing her aid in researching the Great Lake. However the researcher barely took her eyes off her own research subject and just listened with a somewhat disinterested look.
This supported the protagonist's judgement that Sophie was only interested in her research, and thus would have little motive to leak about the Sorcerer Kingdom, which offered her the research environment she desired, and would have little contact with the outside world. Since she was also under surveillance, even if she should signs of leaking information, it would be relatively easy to track Sophie down and eliminate her. This makes the protagonist believe that Sophie is the perfect one for the job.
Sophie though doesn't want to go out into the field, as she doesn't want to interrupt her experiment. In her argument having her remain at the institute would be more of a benefit and concentrate on her research. When Soi mentions that the subject of the investigation is a slime and stating that they required her expertise, Sophie immediately takes an interest berating the adventurers to next time start with that line.
Having her hooked on the investigation, the protagonist explains the details. That the lake in question is undergoing some changes in water quality, which may provide new data for the ongoing decontamination experiment. The team of Darkness will accompany Sophie to the site, along with Mare, a powerful member of the Sorcerer Kingdom so there will be no danger. Also the protagonist will provide the researcher with Sorcerer Kingdom equipment that will be useful on the water.
Nfirea supports the idea of Sophie going out in the field. Right now they are continuing their experiments to replicate the conditions inside the Melting Pot, but this investigation would be a great opportunity to gather data on slimes in different environments. He thinks that it's important that Sophie, who is at the forefront of the decontamination experiment to be present there. His words of encouragement are joined by Fluder, stating to his former pupil that only she knows the most about the Melting Pot. Surako tells the researcher to think this as an important change of pace.
All of this is considered by Sophie, who sees that there is no reason not to go. She is also curious about the Sorcerer Kingdom's equipment and agrees to accompany the adventurers. Just as Sophie move to get prepared, she collapses to her knees. out of exhaustion. Sophie seeing how tired she is, tells her associates she is sorry as it seems her body refuses to move and is unable to get to the investigation site. The protagonist tells her that he will arrange for a carriage, but until it arrives suggests she take a rest.[5]
A carriage soon arrives in a grassland some distance away from the Great Lake. From it Soi in a new swimsuit emerges, along with Sophie and Surako in their own swimsuits. The protagonists following behind tells them that they are at the relay point. From there Soi tells her party that they will have to walk. She takes a moment to check on Sophie to see if she got any sleep in the carriage which the researcher confirms that she did and feels refreshed.
The two slimes and homunculus are happy to see the researcher more energetic, and go on to explain her new attire, the swimsuit, and its benefits. One being that swimsuits are water-repellent and, unlike regular clothes, they do not become see-through even when wet. What's more, they do not absorb water like regular fabrics, so they do not become heavy and do not stick to the skin. Sophie can't believe that there was something like this one could wear to make movement effortless, leaving her in awe of the Sorcerer Kingdom and interested.
Sophie honestly thought that doing fieldwork near water would be a hassle, but if she could also test the performance of swimsuits, it would be a different story. Sophie heads out to the lake. Soi following behind keeps the information that the swimsuit is also suited for water combat as right now it is not necessary.
At the lakeside Sophie is introduced to another of the Sorcerer Kingdom's representatives, Mare. Mare is present, wearing her sailor swimsuit. As the dark elf is introduced to Sophie, the human mistake him for a girl due to his attire, but is quickly corrected. Sophie is surprised as Mare is too cute looking to be a girl and apologies, though the dark elf does not really care as he is used to the misconception humans have off him.
Mare reports that he finished patrolling the area, but has yet to see anything dangerous around. The protagonist asks his friend if he has seen any of those water-mimicking creatures during his patrols. Sadly Mare has not seen found like that. However, he did notice that some of the vegetation around the lake seemed to be growing a bit differently. None of the members of Darkness have an explanation for that anomaly. So they keep that bit in mind and resume investigating.
Sophie looking around comments that places like these usually have strange things happening. Soi suggests that the speak with the local lizardmen. Sophie takes the opportunity to go by the water and to everyone's surprise pours out a slime into the lake. The researcher explains that its a Sanitary Slime, named Sunny, that she brought along. Judging from his reaction and behavior, he doesn't seem to be toxic. To prove it, she dips into the water, enjoying the coolness.
Mare warns her from going any deeper, as it's probably dangerous. There have been reports of people seeing slime-like monsters. Sophie is aware of the danger, that's why she is hear. It would be better to go into the lake to investigate more thoroughly. But she guesses there haven't been any direct damage reported to warrant such a method yet.
Besides she trusts the Sorcerer Kingdom as they are excellent guards, so she'll risk her life as a decoy. And above all else--wants to enjoy herself in the swimsuit finding it wonderful as it goes perfectly with the sanitary slime she brought with her. Almost feeling like she wants to wear it all the time. In fact she asks if she can keep the swimsuit to her, which Soi believes if her research is progressing, the protagonist will negotiate with his superiors.
The researcher is satisfied and decides to continue to do her job well first. Suddenly she brings out another slime, which Sophie explains is a sanitary slime but is a different species from Sunny. Tully as he is named reacts differently depending on the components of the "what" he absorbs. It turns out that the water is not poisonous after all. Sophie recalls earlier the adventurers mentioned reporting to the lizardmen, and asks if it be possible to see what they're up to as there are a few things she'd like to confirm.
The protagonist, considering Sophie's attitude towards research and the results of the Sanitary Slime and the Melting Pot, believes it would be best to accept if she is interested. Since her knowledge and observation skills are no joke, he is sure they will lead to successful research into decontamination. The adventurers decided to take Sophie to the village, while Mare stays behind to watch the lake.
The protagonist and his friends left Mare at the lake and came to the lizardman settlement, where they were greeted by Shasuryu and Zaryusu. Though they are curious about the identity of the human in the swimsuit. After the protagonist introduces Sophie, the researcher asks if it is alright to allow her slimes to roam promising that they will not harm anyone. The lizardmen are surprised by the request, as slimes are not often seen around the area.
Zaryusu is concerned that the monsters might run away and attack the children, but is assured by the protagonist that Sophie word is good as she is a specialist in slimes and will take great care to ensure that the slimes do not escape and will not cause trouble for the people in the village.
Soi understands what they are asking might be a little confusing, but they are keeping an eye on the situation, so they should let them investigate a little. The lizardmen are fine with the Sorcerer Kingdom conducting their investigation as it's for research purposes more than anything.
While Sophie tends to her slimes, the protagonist asks if there been any changes or unusual events to Zaryusu. Zaryusu says that the farmed young fish are growing better. Sophie out of nowhere interrupts asking of anyone feels that they have more energy. The former traveler confirms that some in the village have felt that way recently. Zenberu joins the conversation, confirms that some of the villagers have even claimed to have their injuries heal faster.
This is in line what Sophie believes is what is happening. Zenberu inquires on what exactly could be. Sophie states that judging from the appearance of her sanitary slime, Tully, which appears more healthy, it seems that some nutrients, possibly diluted by the lake water, have seeped into it. It seems like the nutrients are more concentrated in the deeper part of the lake where the team were just now. The reaction in the village is a little weak. For now, it doesn't seem to be poisonous to the lizardmen either. That being said, Sophie thinks it would be creepy if the reason was unknown, so she would like to find out the cause. It is probably due to the creature that was seen in the lake - the alleged slime.
The protagonist thinks it's time meet up with Mare again and begin their search for living creatures in earnest. Zaryusu has one more thing to report. As he was just about to say, before Sophie interrupted, the number of adult fish has decreased along with the growth of the young fish. Almost like they are being "eaten" by this mysterious creature. There also seems to be less and less of the other aquatic life that should be in the area.
Shasuryu muses that the lake is steadily changing shape. Soi indicates is not a good situation to leave it alone just because it seems to be good for their bodies. The protagonist agrees and it's possible that the damage will affect the village as well. But it's not clear whether that's the actual cause, though.
Sophie asks if they are going to defeat the mysterious creature, the alleged slime they should get started. Zenberu hearing this volunteers to go along, as does Zaryusu as they cannot keep allowing the Sorcerer Kingdom to fight the village's problems and be on the sidelines. Their help is appreciate, but the protagonist convinces that the two warriors must stay in the village. There will probably be a battle at the lake, so in case the enemy escapes to the village they will need someone to guard the place. The reasoning is accepted by the lizardmen who promise to stay and guard.
At the lake, Sophie asks if it would be better for them to have the lizardmen present so they don't fall behind in the battle in the swamp. The protagonist says that it would have been better for them to stay where they as, as it would be easier for Mare to be able to move around more easily. This speaks volumes of Mare's power, which Sophie catches on as the team goes to rendezvous with the dark elf.[6]
The protagonist's group returned to the area they had been investigating earlier and reunited with Mare. Mare reports that the number of fish and other creatures in the area is decreasing, which matches to what the others heard from the village. Sophie seeing the others acceptance of this information, asks how the boy knows this. It is explained that Mare has the ability to use magic to detect vital signs. However, as a member of the Sorcerer Kingdom, he doesn't want to reveal his secrets more than necessary.
If the protagonist feels that this is not a card that should be revealed, then Sophie agrees to abide by that and will not do anything that would undermine the interests of the Sorcerer Kingdom.
Mare then prepares to cast a spell, commenting that he didn't think he'd use it in a situation where there were a lot of living creatures because there would be too many reactions...but decides to give it a try. From a word of advice from Soi, rather than trying to find life, he should try to find the place where life disappears. If there is such a place, then the alleged slime is probably there. Mare stops casting, yelling that he found something in the shadow of a rock underwater, where the life responses are disappearing one after another!
Sophie orders Soi to trow some slime food into the water at that spot. If the opponent is slime, they'll eat it with pleasure! Soi tosses the food in, and being that the substance is hard to digest for the slime, it begins to appear. It's soon revealed to be a Super Giant Sanitary Slime. Soi marvels that despite the possibilities of the creature being something else, Momonga proved to be correct it being a slime. The protagonist muses that the creature looks very familiar.
To Sophie, this is the first time she've ever seen a slime that has grown to this size. And would love to capture it and do some experiments if she could. Soi is irritated as she has to go easy on it, as capturing is going to be difficult given a slime of this size. Sophie compromises that she will be content with the remains, but they must do so, before it digests the food they threw at it.
Eventually the giant slime is felled, causing Sophie to be sad as she deeply wanted to take the creature home. Mare takes a moment to use his power to see if there are any more slimes and tells his companions there are none. While the death of the creature is unfortunate for Sophie, it seems to be improving the strange water quality in the lake. There's no doubt that nutrients were seeping out of the slime. And while she wasn't able to bring it back alive, she is looking forward to analyzing its components.
The slime must have used the nutrients to attract fish and even camouflaged itself as water, helping it rise to the top of the lake's ecosystem. It must have been a very comfortable place to live. If Sophie could find out what this nutrient is, she might be able to create as many giant slimes as she wants.
In regards to the nutrients the protagonist has an idea. Earlier Mare said that some of the vegetation around the lakeside is growing differently, but that are is in the east or southeast direction. Mare and Surako seeing this immediately catch on what the protagonist is inferring. The true identity of the giant slime is probably one that used to live east in the Great Forest of Tob.
He have fought many giant slimes in that area, many times before, after it became powerful after eating the Longevity Nut. The adventurer also once secured the Longevity Nut at Nfirea's request and thinks the nutrients oozing out of the slime are probably ingredients in that fruit.
Upon hearing of this, Sophie is excited that there is already data she can refer to. She is bemused that she can't leave the director alone, and pleads to look into the nut, wishing to go to the Great Forest of Tob Well. In doing so she becomes exhausted and kneels, causing Surako to hurry and support the researcher.
Soi cautions the human not to push herself, as she just came out from holed up in the lab. A little sleep in the carriage won't be enough to keep her going. The protagonist promises tha they will investigate the Great Tobu Forest themselves and bring the results to the research institute. For now her companions want Sophie to take a good rest and investigate whether this lake has really been restored.
Surako then places a blanket on Sophie for comfort. Sophie accepts her limitations, but warns them if she waits too long, she'll get impatient and won't be able to rest. She'd like the results of the investigation done as soon as possible. Furthermore she has questions about the swimsuit. Soi complains to the protagonist that there's still a mountain of things to do. Thus, Sophie's plan to refresh herself and the issue of the lake's water quality were resolved for the time being.[7]
Aftermath[]
When the protagonist returned to Nazarick, he reported that he had defeated the giant slime, and that a new water quality test had confirmed that the problems that had been occurring in the lake had been resolved.
Momonga comments on hard work in resolving this issue so quickly, to which the protagonist claims it was thanks to Momonga's wisdom. Mare adds that the growth of the plants around the lake were different, so he followed the healthy grass. And it seemed to lead to the Great Tobu Forest after all. Along the way, they found many traces of Contaminated Beasts that seemed to come from the Azerlisia Mountains.
Mare thinks that a stray Contaminated Beast came near the "Longevity Nruit", the home of the giant slime, and the giant slime fought the beast, causing it to end up in the lake. In truth, it wouldn't have been strange if the slime had just gone to the Azerlisia Mountains, but maybe they found the lake so comfortable that they decided to stay there. Momonga keeps that the possibility of other monsters migrating in the area in mind from now on and will make the summons more cautious.
Up until now, they had been keeping an eye on the Great Forest of Tob and the lizardman settlement, but the surrounding areas had become a little under-watched. So this event was useful to have noticed this now. Aura promises that she will also tell Hamsuke and the others to be on the lookout for strange happenings not only within the forest, but also in the surrounding areas. Momonga is counting on her. However, he'll also be hiring more subordinates so that Hamsuke and the others don't get overworked.
Also, the protagonist was able to carry out the request from Momonga to give Sophie some time to refresh and rest without any problems. Solution in regards to Sophie, states that she is extremely fond of the Sorcerer Kingdom's swimsuit, and would like Momonga's permission to bestow it upon her as is. Personally she thought it was unacceptable for a human to ask for alms from Momonga, but she wondered if it was worthy of the "reward for merit and punishment for deeds" that Momonga always talks about so she is reconsidering.
Considering her achievements, Momonga doesn't mind and allows the woman to keep the swimsuit. Solution thanks Momonga on behalf of Sophie, sure she will now be even more dedicated to her research. Demiurge is bemused as he didn't know she would like the swimsuit that much. All in all Slimeko feels that its good news, as Tsuibayaya will certainly be happy.
Demiurge admits while they can't just give away Nazarick's possessions to outsiders, but if Sophie continues to cooperate with them, they can give her a bonus in a form other than money. The demon supooses that they will need to reconsider in the future the welfare measures for those who cooperate with the Sorcerer Kingdom. Momonga agrees on improving work efficiency and mental care. If a swimsuit can provide both of these benefits, it's a small price to pay. Those who have done deservingly good deeds should be given generous rewards. Momonga then leaves the protagonist, Slimeko, and Solution to continue assisting and auditing on-site.
On the shores of a lake not far from the lizardman settlement. Zaryusu had come to check on the state of the fish pens again. Zaryusu hears footsteps behind him. Thinking it is an enemy, he prepares to fight, but turns out to only be Lupusregina and CZ in their worker attires. Lupusregina and CZ apologizes for spooking the lizardman, as they just were in the area returning from a job and wanted to stop by and greet him.
Lupusregina asks how things are going around the area, to which Zaryusu that with the help of the people of the Sorcerer Kingdom, the problem that was encountered was resolved safely. And the cause of the problem was also removed. Lupusregina heard that the farmed fish had been affected quite a bit. On that, the traveler comments that there were quite a few adult fish that were ripe to eat. But he won't be discouraged by this. This time, he realizes once again that his people are not alone.
More than anything, Zaryusu felt a strong connection with the Sorcerer Kingdom. It's such a wonderful thing to have people who will lend a hand when you're in trouble, instead of taking advantage of an opportunity to do so. So, he'll recover from this level of damage right away and make it even better than it was before. Fortunately, the young fish are growing well. This is apparently due to the nutrients from the nut that was dissolved in the water which he decide as might as well put that to good use.
CZ listening muses this incident has led to renewed research into diluting the nut and using it in other ways. It has also been beneficial for the Sorcerer Kingdom. Zaryusus has always felt bad for giving them all so much trouble and not being able to give anything back...but is glad to hear that this has benefited the kingdom.
Lupusregina tells him not to minimize his people's contribution as the Sorcerer Kingdom also borrow the labor of the lizardmen to mine minerals in the Azerlisia Mountains and on the beaches, which humbles Zaryusu.
CZ tells Zaryusu to be grateful for His Majesty Momonga to which Zaryusu is, with Lupusregina adding that they should pray thanks, causing Zaryusu to chuckle as that would make Momonga a god. In which Lupusregina smiles cheekily responding that is true. When Zaryusu inquires on that note, Lupusregina brushes it aside, telling the lizardman to continue reporting, communicating, and consulting as it is important after all.
Back at the E-Rantel Magic Research Institute, the protagonist and his team have come, wondering if any new research has progressed.
What they find is Sophie in her swimsuit, teasing Nfirea by approaching him, and who is obviosuly uncomfortable with the woman and backing away from her. Suako is completely confused on the situation.
Sophie noticing them says hello to the adventurers. The protagonist takes the opportunity to inquire about what is going on. Sophie then goes on to say to complain that the director, Nfirea, is truly a bad person. The Longevity Nut, according to past research has shown that it has a nutritional tonic effect. In her view if it can maximize the body's ability to recover, it might even be effective in removing contamination. Hence has been trying to get Nfirea to give her that research.
Unfortunately, Nfirea only has a small amount left after extracting the components. It is not suitable for use in trial and error decontamination experiments. Instead it should be used for something that is definitely useful. Considering its effectiveness on the growth of young fish, it would definitely be more effective to give diluted Longevity Nuts to vulnerable people, such as human infants, who are in a situation where they could easily die. The institute has already started this research, and most importantly, the protagonist is also in agreement with it.
In fact the protagonist would like to ask for Sophie help. He plans to use the nut extract and mixed it into sweets to break a curse that was spreading among children. From what Nfirea heard, the lake incident was much more diluted than that, but if it still works, it could help a lot of people.
Sophie with this information in mind, there's nothing they can do about it. The possibility that there was a Longevity Nut in the Melting Pot is extremely low. So it's unnecessary from the perspective of the replication experiment. But when the current experiment reaches a critical stage, she only asks that Nfirea give her the Longevity Nut.
Nfirea agrees to that, however, if it's just for the desire to create a giant slime then he will not accept it. Sophie laughs promising she won't do something like that. After getting that discussion out of the way, the researcher resumes her research that will be beneficial to humanity and, of course, to the Sorcerer Kingdom. Before going away, she calls that if the protagonist happens to find another giant slimes or Longevity Nuts, to please contact her.
The protagonist amused finds all this to be a enriching challenge. It seems to Nfirea that Sophie appears to have been refreshed and feel much better. For that he thanks the protagonist and his friends. Although Fluder worries, as while it's good to be energetic, being too energetic is tiring. To which Nfirea is in concurrence finding Sophie new attitude a bit...troublesome.[8]
