Gauntlet (ガントレット) is an item from Mass for the Dead.
Description[]
An invention made by Ella of the Mercenary Knights using Remnant. It was based on Ella's creator's designed, using the Black-Book's illustrations of additional equipment suited for the individual Mercenary Knights.
It's alternative to the use of [Message] and allows the knights to remain in contact with one another without communications being disrupted by the presence of the Cracks. Billiophia was gifted this equipment by her younger sister.
During the first meeting between the Mercenary Knights and Sorcerer Kingdom, Billiophia had told Albedo and the protagonist that she could not remove her gauntlet, as it was a part of her. Later it turned out to be a convenient excuse. As if it had been removed and its functions were discovered, it would have led to misunderstandings between the Mercenary Knights and Sorcerer Kingdom.
When Aggresiel and Billiophia were invited to the Great Tomb of Nazarick, a gauntlet was taken out of an Attaché Case and presented as a gift to Momonga. Finding it to be a useful to remain in contact with the Mercenary Knights, it was suggested by Demiurge that Billiophia's be examined to make sure no sensitive information was recorded. Billiophia consented and Momonga and his subordinates learned more about the device's fuctions.[1]

Abilities[]
This equipment allows users to communicate with one another in the same world. It also has a number of useful functions for espionage and travel, including a photography function.
According Fluder Paradyne of the E-Rantel Magic Research Institute, it's capable of recreating events as images, similar to skilled magic casters who can accomplish similar feats using illusion magic. Such images could be projected onto a screen for display via the lens. Soi though determines that the items functions more along the lines of science than magic.[2] Momonga finds the device o be relatively simple, similar to in function when he took a photoshoot of himself.
Aggresiel states that the device cannot keep recording images indefinitely. The gauntlet requires mana power within the body to function, and it that power runs out, all recorded data will be erased. In addition, it also needs to be initialized when mana is recharged,
Trivia[]
- Billiophia includes a picture of Ella who took it as a test shot after she recharged the item with her mana power.
- Billiophia's version differs as it is equipped with long claws on each of the fingertips.
- The members of the E-Rantel Magic Research Institute used it to create a video to document the durability test of the Chaos Adaptive Equipment Type II Miasma Cloak.[2]
- To hide the fact that it was an invention from another world, the Sorcerer Kingdom officially maintains that it was a restored lost technology left behind by the Boastful Sage,[2]
