Mass for the Dead Arc[]
- Main article: Mass for the Dead Arc
A party from the Great Tomb of Nazarick, sought out the Legendary Tree for a cherry blossom festival for Momonga in the Great Forest of Tob. After following a trail of migrating demi-humans and other clues they located the Forest of Death where it was believed to have rooted. Upon seeing the tree for themselves, they wished to take it to Nazarick. When Cocytus tried to cut it down, the plant monster attacked and called forth its thralls to attacked the party. Surprised by the vicious enemies the group were forced to retreat outside the Death Forest where the tree and its thralls could not follow. After leaving Hamsuke and Slimeko begins the others including Cocytus, Narberal Gamma, Aura Bella Fiora, and the protagonist managed to fell the Supreme Odor Flower. The treants became dead trees and the forest began to slowly recover.[1]
The forest was later revisited by the forces of Nazarick led by Demiurge. Using their ogre and goblin minions under the command of Hamsuke, they searched the area for clues on the whereabouts of the true Supreme Tree, the Parent Tree. No clues were found, but using deduction they decided to head north in the direction of the north wind, as it was possible that the Supreme Odor Flower's seed may have originated there.[2]
Layout & Features[]
Geographically it was located to the north-east of the territory of the Beast of the South in the Great Forest of Tob. Contrary to the legends of a herbal garden, it contains a region of dead plant-life and holds an eerie atmosphere. All the nutrients have been drained for the nourishment of the Legendary Tree. Even the trees that live there are actually dead Treants that were sucked of all life and turned into thralls by the predatory plant.
Trivia[]
- This location is also a Relic Item in the game for players to earn in Mass for the Dead.
- Interestingly in the Light Novel, Guu the Giant of the East was said to dwell in a region of the Great Forest of Tob, called the Withering Forest.
- The forest background was reused to display the world on the "other side" of the Crack.[3][4]
