Fist ( (フィスト) ) is a worker group that operates in the Free City.

Background[]

Fist was established a few years as a team, eventually rising as a famous worker group.

During the nascent time of Momon and Nabe's rise as adventurers, the workers over drinks had heard of their earliest feat of fighting the undead. One being Momon fighting off a Skeletal Dragon, which earned him the respect of Candelon Gaelian, though what made the moment rememberable for Fist, especially Antwali, was when the priest toasted Momon causing him spray his drink at the leader of Fist, drenching his face and getting some in his eyes.[1]

The Phantom Ship of Katze Plains Arc[]

Main article: The Phantom Ship of Katze Plains I and The Phantom Ship of Katze Plains II Arc

Fist led by Antwali left Vadis to head out into the Katze Plains for a routine clean-up mission against the undead at Broken Tower 1. Accompanying them was an Inspector and four porters. The group totaling to ten took a formation of two people in front, two at the rear, and the remaining six in the middle.

Once at the Broken Tower, the workers were only to do a large-scale clean up of the surrounding area, and with that, they would declare the hunt over. This was mostly due to Fist being unable to get any of the other teams to partner up with them for the clean-up. Even though their compensation was insufficient, Antwali decided it was for the best as going too far into the plains would be dangerous.

The group while traveling through the infamous plains, Candelon Gaelian alerted everyone of low-rank undead ahead. Though they saw nothing in front of them, the workers deduced that they were either dealing with invisible undead or undead hiding underground. As a team they came to an agreement that they were dealing with the latter and that they would fight than retreat towards the city. They assembled into their battle formations with the porters and Inspector being placed in defensive formation in a ring of the luggage while the workers went to deal with the undead.

Bunaz went to draw the attention of the undead that were hiding underground. They were revealed to be six Grave Dead. The workers did not see the undead as much of a threat. The undead followed Bunaz and were all wiped out thanks to fire magic cast by Envario.

Once the undead were eliminated, the Inspector noted the kills on record. While he man was taking note, Antwali and Bunaz took the opportunity to gather information on the annexation of the Katze Plains by the Sorcerer Kingdom affect the Free City of Vadis and its undead hunting business. From the Inspector the rumors of the Re-Estize Kingdom and Baharuth Empire pulling back monetary funding to the city was confirmed, as well as the Temple also moving towards the same direction due to not wanting to support the Sorcerer Kingdom.

Ultimately it seemed to the Antwali and Bunaz that the decision of what to do with Vadis was left to the Sorcerer Kingdom. The workers were unsure of how the new changes would affect them and wanted to wait and see how things played out. Though they feared that their livelihoods and pay would be affected and feared that this undead clean-up would be their last. To change the dour topic, Bunaz advised everyone that they best head towards the Broken Tower as it was a more appropriate place to talk rather than out in the open.[2]

The undead subjugation team journeyed to the Broken Tower. However while normally a sight of relief as it was a safe zone, Antwali and Bunaz noticed that no flags signifying the place was occupied were hoisted. Despite their knowledge that there should be two other teams to have gone ahead of theirs and occupied the tower. Neither were there any signs that alerted that there was an undead attack. Candleon using his undead detection spell could not detect any undead presences in the area. Envario volunteered to fly and take a look, but Bunaz had another alternative way to see if anything was amiss.

Using a nasal drug to enhance his sense of smell, the ranger detected that blood was in the air and recently spilled. He was unable to determine where it was emanating from, so to check Envario used summoning magic to call forth a summoned wolf to ascertain where the blood was coming from. It pinpointed the source to the tower and was then sent to scout ahead. While waiting Candlon and Dietz Elderwood went to the rear of the group to inform the porters and Inspector of the situation. By the time they returned from the rear, the wolf had returned with a scrap of bloody cloth.

Bunaz studying the scrap determined it was of imperial design and that the damage was caused by claws. The work was possibly done by a large undead, though Antwali never heard of any kind of large undead being around Broken Tower 1 before, leading him to suspect that it may have came from somewhere else. The team guessed that the previous teams had gone deeper into the plains and were chased to the Broken Tower, before perishing.

From Envario's wolf, from what he could interpret there were bodies within the defensive walls of the tower. Candelon insisted that they needed to head there to at least mourn and care for the dead. Candelon was right as if the dead left behind could return as strong undead and threatened the security of the future use of the tower. But as Bunaz pointed out there was still a risk to them as strong undead normally did not return to the depths of the plains and could be still lurking around the area. Given that two teams were wiped out the ranger was not sure if they could handle it. Both arguments being correct, Antwali decided that the team would cautiously approach the tower to study the surroundings and look for clues to what happen before making a decision on whether to secure the tower or retreat. That way the workers could at least identify what attacked the Broken Tower and ascertain its weaknesses.

The undead subjugation team then advanced in a circle around the hill where the tower was situated. With Envario lining up beside Bunaz and Antwali while the summoned wolf guarded the middle of the formation. The group found the defensive wall around the tower to have collapsed inwards, and Bunaz counted at least three or four sets of human foot prints from the south side in what seems to be an escape towards the structure.

The evidence proved that the workers were correct in their deduction, of what happened, that the warriors were chased to the tower by something large given the hole in the wall. Yet Bunaz noticed that there were no signs of large footprints of the pursuer leading to the notion that the thing was a flying undead. It was deduced that the undead was not incorporeal but there was still the possibility, not likely though, that whatever caused the damage to the wall could use magic.

From the information they gleamed on the clues outside the Broken Tower, securing it would be more appropriate, since if they were dealing with a flying undead, they would have a better chance of a defense at the tower, then trying to escape it out in the open where it would be in its territory.

At the approach to the Broken Tower's perimeter, they found a gap in the wall around the tower, and spotted three corpses. Candelon confirmed that there was no undead reaction from his magic and the workers and porters hurried inside the defensive walls through the gap. The workers then began their work to clear all uncertainty in the area around the tower: Candelon performed the Rites of Vigil for the dead, while Bunaz and Envario investigated the bodies and Antwali and Dietz kept an eye on the sky.

From Envario and Bunaz's investigation of the bodies, they determined that whatever killed the people at the tower was indeed a monster. From the footprints left behind it was a quadrupedal creature that was four meters tall with a long tail. Evario deduced that based on the details the likely culprit was a Skeletal Dragon. The talk about a Skeletal Dragon brought up the topic of the adventurer Momon and his exploits in fighting one in E-Rantel, before Antwali had the team focus on securing the rest of the tower area.

Afterwards Bunaz listened against the door to the entrance of the Broken Tower for any sounds within and Candelon using his detection spell to sense any undead. There was nothing to detect and Bunaz opened it cautiously, throwing a Glow Stick to illuminate the interior and confirmed it was empty. The porters and Inspector were then ushered inside for their safety whilst the workers conducted the burial for the dead.

Fist started digging holes with the equipment that was kept in the Broken Tower. Antwali and Dietz did the digging while Bunaz and Candelon stood guard. The stamina-less Envario searched through the three corpses. The search of the bodies was not out of greed but done to see if there were any hidden magic items, as well as to check through the belongings of the dead. The first reason was to prevent the unlikely chance that the undead could get their hands on the equipment attached to the corpse. The second was to locate any articles that the workers could give to the deceased family or close associates. The final reason was to check whether the dead kept anything like a diary that kept records from the day they entered Katze Plains.

As they worked, Antwali re-opened the the conversation on Momon defeating a Skeletal Dragon. Although Candelon praised the adamantite adventurer of his heroics, Antwali wanted to focus more on the traits of the Skeletal Dragon and how to potentially take it down.

Just as they were finishing lowering the bodies into the ground, Bunaz detected something flying in the air, alerting his teammates. On guard now, Fist prepared for battle. Candelon though could not detect any undead presence, however Bunaz still saw something coming towards them. Soon enough a Skeletal Dragon fell from the air atop them. It's appearance did not make any sense to the priest as his spell failed, though Envario realized that the magic resistance of the undead dragon nullified the detection spell.

The undead being on the ground now, Fist aimed to take it down there and before it could take off into the skies again. They selected their formation as best they could,, with Antwali and Dietz taking it head-on, while Bunaz and Candelon stood guard with Envario.

Antwali and Dietz separated from each other when attacking the Skeletal Dragon from both sides. Rather than go all out, the workers fought to leave enough leeway for a quick retreat as they did not gauge the full strength of the undead. The vanguard duo hit the body of bones with their respective weapons. The dragon then began to claw at the two workers, missing them by inches.

It later took flight, leaving the workers attacks out of reach, and hovering in the air and then targeting Antwali. Antwali retreated, his back turned the undead, and before it could reach hi, Envario cast [Wall of Stone] to provide a barrier to protect his rear. Though Dietz was now alone with the Skeletal Dragon on the other side. Envario was then ordered to bring the barrier down so Antwali could help Dietz, but Bunaz delayed the order as he detected two more approaching entities.

They were revealed to be more Skeletal Dragons, an impossibility as such undead usually never left the deep reaches of the plains. Dietz who was still struggling in dodging the undead dragon received reprieve when Envario sent his summoned bear to substitute his place just as his barrier came down. The bear held the Skeletal Dragon at bay, as Antwali having carefully studied the situation which was growing dire by the moment gave the order aloud for a retreat into the tower to inform the occupants inside of the danger and to rally his team.

Antwali planned to make a defensive fight against the dragons within the structure as it was the best decision. The plan went awry when one of the Skeletal Dragons targeted Envario, Dietz and Bunaz, landing in front before they could retreat inside the tower.

While it seemed to be the end for Fist, the Skeletal Dragons halted their attacks after detecting living presences out in the plains heading to their vicinity. The adamantite adventurer team Darkness arrived riding on Hamsuke.

Momon and his hamster mount proceeded to engage the undead, each taking two and one by themselves. Fist became spectators of the fight. While they were greatly impressed by the physical ability of the famed adventurer some among their number noticed the odd mechanics of Momon’s “Martial Arts” though dismissed them due to being enthralled by their savior.[1]

After the Skeletal Dragons were slain, Antwali approached the adventurers of Darkness to thank them for saving his team. The workers gave their introductions and learned that Darkness were in a mission by Prime Minister Albedo to investigate the rumor of the Ghost Ship of the Katie Plains. Some like Envario suspected that the mission given to Momon had an ulterior motive than just simply checking out a tall tale. Even so the workers of Fist wished the adventurers of Darkness luck as they planned to head out to the next Broken Tower. Fist on the other hand decided to retreat from the Broken Tower and return to Vadis so that they could inform the city’s authorities of the increasing danger in the plains.[3]

Fist were later seen atop the city walls of Vadis. On what the team planned to do, given that Skeletal Dragons now were coming to the edges of the plains, they thought of perhaps heading to the Sorcerer Kingdom. Though some believed that they should not leave at least until Momon returned or at least until they knew more about the situation. The workers wondered what was going on in the heteromorphic nation, wondering perhaps horrible things were occurring there. Due to the kingdom's interest in the Ghost Ship the workers thought that there was a reason.

The workers postulated that there were at least three reasons. The first reason being the Sorcerer Kingdom believed Momon will be able to find it. The second reason being that the mission was to send Momon far away, so they could do something nefarious without the adventurer present. And the third which they all dread, was that the Sorcerer Kingdom intentionally sent Momon to the plains so he would die.

They suspected that the Sorcerer King who had claimed the Katze Plains belonged to him, which resulted in the war between the Sorcerer Kingdom and Re-Estize Kingdom, was amassing his undead forces in the area. And that the appearance of the Skeletal Dragons so close to the borders of the plains, and Ghost Ship search was no coincidence. That the Sorcerer King knew about the increasing danger and intended to turn the region into an execution ground for heroes. That being said the workers believed that they had been fighting the Sorcerer Kingdom's forces all along, though could not fathom why the undead king allowed Vadis to remain.

As they hypothesized these ideas, the workers were met by the sight of the Ghost Ship emerging from the plains, dragging fog with it. And what they spied on the deck to their amazement was Momon and Nabe. Upon seeing the two adventurers safe and triumphant on the undead vessel, Fist realized that they had overcome the Sorcerer Kingdom's ploy. The workers praised the achievement which they were lucky to see, though were dumbstruck after seeing that a giant crab was on the ship.[4]

Strength[]

The workers in Fist were seasoned veterans. They held a reputation of possessing capable members that had prowess. Among their number was a magic caster able to cast [Fireball] which was proof that he was a talented magic caster.

Hence it was perceived by others that the other members of Fist have the same level of ability. For example Antwali and Dietz Elderwood are regarded as the sword and shield of the team due to their offensive and defensive abilities. The team also had experience fighting against even larger enemies.

A part of why Fist has managed to stay alive for so long is attributed to Antwali's intuition. Each member of the team appears to cognizant of their own duty in a given situation, and their unquestionable trust in one another that they can adjust their team's formation to handle most dynamics that are thrown at them.

Known Members[]

Trivia[]

  • This is the first worker group that does not have any prior national ties.
  • Besides earning some coin by defeating an opponent, Fist always showed off their member's strongest attacks like [Fireball] so they could make their strength known and inspire trust to their associates.
