Ogres (人食い鬼) are a demi-human race of brutish humanoids.

Background[]

Ogres are naturally feared by many due to their immense size and strength. There are actually a few species of Ogres with unique abilities.[1]

Appearance[]

Ogres range between the height of 8 feet to 10 feet. Mostly resembling large shaved gorillas with warty brown skin, but with a sinister aura and a greater deal of muscle mass. They look menacing with jutting jaws sharply protruding out.[2]

Abilities[]

One of an Ogre's natural traits is their immense strength. They possess bulging muscles on their arms as thick as trees, capable of lifting trees with little effort to use them as makeshift clubs or spears.[3] In addition, they possess night vision.[4]

Culture[]

Ogre Village

An ogre settlement[5]

Ogres have a reputation for eating humans when given a chance, though, in later volumes, it's revealed that ogres only hunt humans as a food source due to a simple reason: hunger. From their point of view, humans are creatures that are easier to catch and provide greater sustenance when compared to other creatures like rabbits.[6] Though lacking in intelligence, Ogres do possess great loyalty to those who show them compassion and strength.

Trivia[]

  • Ogres only work for their tribe of goblins, as they are often seen traveling and working together. However, Ogres will also eat goblins whenever their food is scarce.
  • Enri's Goblin Troop rescued a group of five Ogres which became part of the Goblin Army in exchange for food.
  • Ogres in YGGDRASIL would drop data crystals when killed, but those in the New World don't seem to have this function.
  • Ogres in the New World are described to possess an overwhelming aroma that is extremely difficult to remove.
  • In French folklore, ogres are man-eating giants with terrible powers reminiscent of goblins and Trolls, and ogres have even been speculated to be a cross between humans and goblins.
