Father and Son Play the King of the Undead (父子の演じる不死者の王) is a game event in Mass for the Dead that was released on October 31, 2024 to November 14, 2024.
Background[]
The three nations have become puppet states of the Sorcerer Kingdom.
Recently, there have been more opportunities for joint inspections by representatives of the allied nations. Momonga, the head of the Sorcerer Kingdom, is beginning to feel the need to attend ceremonies and the like.
He makes preparations for this with Pandora's Actor, but...?[1]
Incident[]
The appearance of the monsters and violent behavior of the people caused by the miasma and Cracks had devastated each nation, but several months have passed since then. Reconstruction was progressing and the political situation became relatively stable. The leaders of the Quadripartite Alliance having completed their inspection of the Baharuth Empire were about to begin discussions about the next site to visit.
At the Alliance's meeting hall, Prime Minister Albedo, King Zanac Valleon Igana Ryle Vaiself. Emperor Jircniv Rune Farlord El-Nix, Cardinal Raymond Zarg Lauransan, and the Territory Guardian of E-Rantel.
The protagonist thanks Emperor Jircniv for the tour of the Empire that occurred the previous day. The others then give out their reviews of the trip to Arwintar. Albedo adding that the energy of the people there was clear that the Baharuth Empire was recovering, and though the inspection was successful. Zanac found the tour was stimulating, finding it contrast to the Re-Estize Kingdom as the nation was still mourning the following death of his father, so it was rare to see such liveliness and appreciated the distraction.
The emperor finds that's the best thing, and offers that the Baharuth Empire will spare no effort to assist the other nations. But as Zanac mentions it is not necessary as his kingdom is receiving support from the Sorcerer Kingdom and that they will start resuming their domestic affairs. This comes as a surprise to Bloody Emperor, as the Empire also suffered considerable damage, but it's no exaggeration to say that the way it was rebuilt through an impressive feat of the emperor's own skill by cutting out the unnecessary parts and focusing on the essentials. Whereas the Kingdom is still in some confusion following the death of the previous king. So no matter how capable the new king is, it will be difficult for Zanac to restore it at the same speed, especially when his right hand man Marquis Raeven and Princess Renner are no longer by his side.
The protagonist adds into the conversation that E-Rantel's recovery is going well. Not as enthusiastic as the people at the Grand Arena, but it's clear that life is returning to normal. Zanac thanks the protagonist for the update. Cardinal Raymond also says that no matter how much good news he hears, it never gets boring. Just like the Baharuth Empire and Re-Estize Kingdom, the Slane Theocracy will continue to focus on reconstruction. Jircniv though hopes in the future that he could show the cardinal the Empire. This is thanked by Raymond, expressing his gratitude and respect for the emperor's thoughtfulness.
After Zanac declares that they will continue to work together under the Quadripartite Alliance. The group then shifted to the next topic on where their next inspection will be. The protagonist suggests going to the Slane Theocracy next, but Raymond unfortunately tells his peers that he has other plans and will not be able to make the next inspection. Therefore he hopes that they instead join him in inspecting the Kingdom. Zanac does not mind this, but finds it unfortunate that the scenery will be dull as there are no flowers or fields. Said scenes would be proof that the reconstruction is beginning to spread. Above all, no country can remain silent on the food issue. Even so the protagonist has no intention of allowing the king be insulted by his shortcomings.
It appears that for now the inspection tour of the Theocracy is to be shelved, though Raymond promises to speak to the Pontifex Maximus. Albedo has a question on if the Deputy High Priest Enhela will be in attendance. The cardinal answers that it would be nice if Enhela could attend, but states that the priest has been busy dealing with the damage within the country and does not have the time to go abroad.
The protagonist silently listening, senses that the Theocracy does not know that Enhela is dead, as the homunculus had killed him months ago, but they still remain vague on his whereabouts, maintaining their tendency to cover things up as usual. The Prime Minister of the Sorcerer Kingdom finds the news unfortunate as she can relate as she will be busy really soon, though wishes that she could meet with Enhela. Upon hearing of this Zanac suggests that the Sorcerer King could take Albedo's place to represent her nation, though sadly it seems it cannot be the same for the Theocracy.
Raymond affirms this to be correct, as the Pontifex Maximus is old and a long journey would be difficult for him. But in speaking of substitutes, the cardinal makes a point that the Sorcerer Kingdom's monarch has never attended a convention yet. Albedo silent watches as more of her peers like Jircniv would like to meet the monarch. Even Zanac, who given the current situation, announces there are no plans to hold a grand coronation or enthronement ceremony even after his kingdom's mourning period is over. But he would like to offer his greetings as the new king. If it was acceptable he would like to invite him as a state guest and given him a proper ceremony, even if it would be a simple coronation ceremony.
If that happens Raymond adds that he definitely would attend. A pitch is even made by Jircniv that they don't have to wait for Zanac's coronation, as he would be honored to host a full reception and banquet for the Sorcerer King to have an audience. Albedo having received this calls for entreaties, certainly sees their respect and admiration for her liege. However informs the representatives that her liege is always worrying about the future of the world and thinking up ways to achieve it.
Still the excuse make the leaders in the room all more desiring to meet such a wise king. That being said Albedo agrees to take their wishes to her nation and consider them. It is not lost to the protagonist though that this interest in the Sorcerer King was started by Raymond, likely as a last resort to avoid questioning about the Theocracy lack of attendance. Though the Sorcerer Kingdom was drawn into this trap, the homunculus feels such an issue needs to be attended considering the future of the world.
After the Quadripartite Alliance conference, the protagonist and Albedo returned to the Great Tomb of Nazarick. Due to a recent encounter with a new unknown in the Empire, Momonga was more worried than usual about his people's safety when the arrived.
Momonga seeing them safe asks if there was any suspicious activity, Albedo reports that the conference concluded without any problems. However there is an issue that was brought up that she needs to discuss with him. It being the opinions of the three other countries that they would like to see the face of the King of the Sorcerer Kingdom. Obviously they want to meet Momonga as Albedo sees that they want to curry favor with him the Sorcerer King who is famed as the great and wise ruler of the Sorcerer Kingdom. From her conversations she adds that it was clear that they showed respect for him and wanted to make their future relations with them more favorable than those of other countries.
In Demiurge's interpretation, it's juts truly impure, greedy human sensibility. Momonga taking this all into consideration muses that since the Quadripartite Alliance was formed, if there is a great diplomatic benefit to it, perhaps he should appear before the humans as a representative of their allied nations. Despite this being a benefit to Nazarick, Albedo has some reservations. Momonga asks if his Prime Minister feels that there is unsettling going on with the humans.
It is not that, but judging from the state of the humans, Albedo thinks that rather than having foolish plots such as assassination, it seems that they are simply motivated by an ulterior motive to curry favor with the Sorcerer King. Momonga understands as it simply boils down to the concern about defense when she is not present. However Momonga states that is different from before, as everyone has regained their original strength. So he trusts them all and believes now he can leave it to them.
Albedo is honored, but still she can't help but think about what would happen if something were to happen to him. Demiurge interjects that what Momonga says is true. The Sorcerer Kingdom is already different from other countries in that its territory is unclear. No matter how many achievements the protagonist makes on their behalf, if the head of the nation continues to conceal their existence, they may lose the trust of the other countries. What's more, it may even raise doubts about whether the organization really functions as a nation.
Albedo understands what her colleague is saying, but even so they have encountered beings in the Empire who claim to be from a parallel world. And there are already other issues to consider. Demiurge is well aware of this, and his warnings about being careful when she and the protagonist left. Albedo points out that the beings claim to be of YGGDRASIL origin, and that's something they should fear the most. What's more they could be go rampant. And while there is nothing wrong to comment on the fact that Momonga, the most revered being should appear, it's completely on a different level from when she or the protagonist make a public appearance.
Demiurge and the Overseer Guardian then argue on the criticalness of the Momonga's debut, but it is stopped by the Sorcerer King. And while he appreciates Albedo's sentiments, as Demiurge says if the leader of their nation refuses to greet the people in the Alliance it will lead to a loss of trust among the other countries. Furthermore, the last thing they want if for their very existence to be questioned. The power balance is still in the Sorcerer Kingdom's favor, but the decontamination has strengthened the humans. If they are to handle the Devourer of the Nine Worlds, it will be necessary to strength diplomacy in order to be able to use them effectively as their shields and spears.
To himself, Momonga's mind has been thinking ever since defeating Enhela. However he is worried that if he stands before the humans, the facade that Nazarick has built until now will crumble. But understands that he has to do his best out there as it is no time to be weak-hearted. Demiurge continuing the discussion states that he agrees with Momonga that the current situation is advantageous and stable for the Sorcerer Kingdom. Thus they should take some risks and act to increase their future options.
Albedo though thinks that they have to consider the benefit of being cautious, as if they look at it from another perspective, it gives the enemy time to prepare. Demiurge knows this and that if they are going to take action, they need to be able to see one, two or even three steps ahead. Momonga though is not even that far close to planning on what to do, to his emotional distress, but hides it by claiming Demiurge is speaking what is expected. So let's the demon explain to Albedo about the advantages he's noticed, as he too is curious about the content and doesn't want it to turn into another quarrel.
That being said, the undead can see why Albedo is wary of the beings who claim to be from a parallel world. Even though this time the other party approached her in a friendly manner, she doesn't trust them completely. If things had gone badly, they might have been ambushed----and he himself might have shared the fate. In that case the first thing that comes to mind is to use Pandora's Actor as a body double. But if Momonga were to replace himself with Pandora's Actor, he end up with a embarrassing king...and more than anything, he could not control the situation if he was there.
It was deemed absolutely impossible to Momonga in his mind. No matter how he looked at it---intelligence, role or initiative--it was absolutely impossible. Momonga did not know if Pandora's Actor could pull it off being his body double, but he still felt a pain in his stomach just thinking about it in his nonexistent stomach.
Meanwhile, Albedo and Demiurge continue to silently argue, with Albedo suggesting that Demiurge thinks he does not agree with Momonga going outside. When Demiurge does not deny this with a small smile, Momonga bids him to explain, despite the demon thinking he already guessed his thoughts. The demon says that while he would like Momonga to attend a meeting with the people in the outside world, once all preparations have been made, but knowing his master he surmises that Momonga has noticed benefits that even his servants cannot see, hence would ask him to forgive them for allowing himself to leave Nazarick.
In short terms Demiurge is also against Momonga stepping outside the dungeon and putting him potentially in harms way. This is just a selfish and emotional request by his servant Demiurge. It is certain that the value of other countries will increase in the future as a shield, a spear and an information network in preparation for unexpected situations and unknown entities. And understands that Momonga will one day be involved in making effective use of these.
In order to avoid any foolish delays at a time when national interests are at stake, Albedo states that they will proceed with preparations so that His Majesty the Sorcerer King can attend. All she asks is for patience until everything is in order. Demiurge accepts this, adding that Pandora's Actor even though acting as a body double cannot match Momonga in intelligence, and looks forward to the day where Momonga can appear in public in person. Although Momonga has no interest in showing off his wisdom, as its non-existent, so Pandora's Actor is definitely an important choice as his double.
When Demiurge mentions that there are more than twenty things that need to be prepared for his arrival on that day, Momonga wonders on what they could be. One being Albedo, will need to accompany Momonga as a guard. As per Demiurge's prior arrangement, he will be in charge of guarding Nazarick and will act as the defense commander.
In addition, the protagonist states that they need to think about how to disguise the information so that it is not leaked to hostile forces... The cooperation of the three countries is also essential to keep your attendance at the summit from being discovered by outsiders. The security arrangements to Momonga are stifling as everyone is all worried about him being in danger as he doesn't want to make everyone feel uneasy because of him.
He feels the need to do something to ease their anxiety, even if just a little. Still he knows it would be bad to miss this opportunity for the Sorcerer Kingdom, but more than anything, Momonga knows he needs to avoid his existence causing them so much stress. There's no guarantee that there won't be an opportunity to talk to other players in the future. Now that he knows that the Devourer's existence could destroy the world, if he can convey that to them, Momonga thinks they will be willing to cooperate. At the very least, they should be able to work together to avoid getting in each other's way.
His thoughts in order, Momonga announces aloud that he fully understands everyones thoughts. When he is worthy of stepping out, and they are all satisfied with his preparations, he will also begin making preparations so that he will be able to act as the Sorcerer King at any time. Their concern is appreciated, but he doesn't want to miss out on a good opportunity by not showing up in public.
His words are accepted by Albedo. Momonga thanks her and Demiurge, and asks that they don't make things difficult for him because he is weak. The suggestion of Momonga being weak shocks the two Floor Guardians and homunculus as they stammer that they would not dare.
Demiurge promises that they will then take everything into consideration and submit a plan for the necessary preparations. However Momonga does not want to cause him any unnecessary trouble. In addition, as Demiurge stated, Momonga also thinks that he should send in Pandora's Actor as a body double. So this time, Momonga is going to make a plan together with Pandora's Actor which he hopes that the results will allay some of their fears.
The reason for this action, is that Momonga knows that if he leaves it to Demiurge, he'll probably get really enthusiastic and create a "Great Sorcerer King." If he bases the role of the Sorcerer King on Albedo and the others' loyalty in front of the humans...it might go too far and put people off...and he doesn't know how far he can go...so Momonga plans to practice with Pandora's Actor, aiming to be a modest Sorcerer King. Momonga then ends the meeting and leaves for the Treasury.
After he is gone, the protagonist says Momonga is truly a merciful person, willing to take action to allay their anxieties. Albedo finds that true enough but even so, although Momonga will is absolute, she is still worried about contact with people from the outside world. Although they have become increasingly dependent on the Sorcerer Kingdom and have grown accustomed to the undead as a labor force, as Demiurge points out, there is still the question of how foolish humans will view Momonga's appearance.
Of course, Demiurge thinks Momonga has taken that into account. As for the protagonist, he thinks it would be good if worship came from a place of reverence...but he can't say for sure that this is always the case. As it's like asking if God do this? The 7th Floor Guardian responds that if it were Momonga, he might do so. Either way, Albedo declares that they should be prepared, which Demiurge agrees so to ensure that Momonga's preparations are as thorough as possible.[2]
Momonga passes through the Treasury to visit Pandora's Actor, a dark past of his own making. The Area Guardian is thrilled to see his creator, getting too close to the Overlord for comfort. Momonga bears with it, and explains the necessity for the Sorcerer King to make an appearance at the Quadripartite Alliance. After getting his creation to give him some space, Pandora's Actor then pieces together what is occurring. In that currently, the Kingdom and the Empire are completely dependent on the Sorcerer Kingdom and have been turned into puppets, but there are still many unclear aspects of the Slane Theocracy, including the state of the home country.
For that reason, Pandora's Actor thinks it would be a good idea to consider disguising Momonga in a way that does not provoke the powers of the Temple. So far Momonga find Pandora's Actor's reasoning to be logical. First of all, regarding the equipment...Pandora's Actor thinks it would be better to change the robe on his Divine Class Item. Momonga finds that it's reasonable, as it's a natural measure to prevent accurate understanding of his fighting strength. However, having equipment that is far inferior to his original equipment could be a hindrance in the event of an emergency. After all Albedo, Demiurge, and the protagonist are also worried that he might be harmed.
The Area Guardian is also concerned about that. So, he plans to select some of the equipment in the Treasury and Momonga's closet, which the Sorcerer King permits to bring what he thinks is appropriate. Pandora's Actor happily responds with "Wenn es meines Gottes Wille!" much to Momonga embarrassment. As he waits, Momonga is already feeling tired being around Pandora's Actor.
When Pandora's Actor returned, he was holding a variety of equipment that seemed familiar, but also unfamiliar. Pandora's Actor bowed respectfully and stepped next to Momonga and begins helping his creator in wearing the first set of equipment he brought. It is a priest kimono, which Pandora's Actor claims to be similar to that of southern culture, the attire of priests who worship a god completely different from the Four Great Gods and Six Great Gods. And adds that he heard from the protagonist that this religion is called Shinbutsu-shūgō, a religion so profound that it encompasses all kinds of gods! His appearance may be repulsive to the Temple forces, therefore, this set is effective in showing religious neutrality. Momonga though is not even sure if the attire is appropriate, finding it is a bit flashy.
Momonga asks to try out the next outfit, even though it's not to the liking of Pandora's Actor. Saying this, Pandora's Actor spread out the next piece of equipment, and even though his face couldn't move, to Momonga it looked like he had a big smile on his face. The equipment is composed of Momonga wearing a black robe and collar. To Pandora's Actor his equipment is something flashy, more like chic, and if his master uses a short cane that's more luxurious than the one in the Treasury as a scepter, it'll look great!
Momonga agrees that it's chic, but...asks why is he wearing this collar as part of the set? Pandora's Actor explains the collar looks similar to the robe artifact, but it is just a cosmetic item. Although it does not increase EXP, it does not reduce abilities, so Momonga can wear it with peace of mind! Instead, it has the benefit of resistance to holy attributes, and more than anything, it's a great fashion piece, so he hopes he'll wear it as a set!
Momonga is stunned that Pandora's Actor included it just because it is a great piece of fashion. And thinks it's weird and wonders if this is considered fashionable in the current world. Still he claims that it would be something a king would wear to keep Pandora's Actor happy.
The next set of equipment is shown to Momonga who is still struggling with the troublesome emotional turmoil that was not enough to calm him down. However it is just a bath towel, to which Momonga thinks his creation is making a joke. If he goes out in public like this, he'll look like the emperor with no clothes. In Pandora's Actor's defense he believes he can imprint Momonga's beautiful body on the eyes of the common people.
Momonga's becomes emotionally dismayed, finding Pandora's Actor idea to be weird, though the doppelgänger thinks it's an exciting, rare opportunity to show the humans Momonga, his creator and absolute ruler! Momonga though wants to be serious, and has an idea and decides to ask for the protagonist's opinion. Some time later, Momonga is seen dressed in a resplendent white gown, after taking the homunculus's advice on his equipment.
The protagonist finds the sight to be beautiful, a true embodiment of beauty of the rightful ruler of the world! He adds that the Temple forces often wear clothes with a white base, so he thought it might be possible to achieve the effect of matching it with the people of Theocracy hence why he chose it--but never imagined Momonga would be this impressive.
Even so Pandor's Actor finds it to be a wonderful combination that shows off Momonga's generosity while not detracting from his beauty. If it were permitted, he would love to use the Treasury camera to capture Momonga's beautiful figure in a photo! The Sorcerer King tells Pandora's Actor to cease with the banter as he gets offended. Besides, it's a waste to use a consumable item to take a picture of him, who isn't going to grow or change.
Pandora's Actor does not agree, as does the protagonist, thinking it's wonderful to preserve Momonga's appearance. The protagonist and Pandora's Actor seeming to get along well, is briefly noted by Momonga, though also notes that as he is dressed he won't be embarrassed to show himself in public. Photo aside the two did a good job. Though he asks if maybe he should hide his skeletal face? However Pandora's Actor feels it would be suspicious to go out in public wearing a mask. For the protagonist, he thinks it would be appropriate to say that, as Momonga had planned, "He has not shown his face in order to avoid causing unrest to the people."
Momonga doesn't remember saying such a thing, but accepts the advice nonetheless. Adding that the protagonist states that the Sorcerer Kingdom's lending of undead as labor to various places where humans live has also been effective as a measure to alleviate the fear felt by those who are unable to understand the beauty and majesty of the Supreme Being. Hence why the two think that Momonga planned it all to eventually desensitize the humans against their fear of the undead.
Momonga guesses so, as the measures they've taken so far have been effective enough that even if he does show his face, it won't cause any major confusion. But even if he doesn't disguise the face, his movements are a little different from normal as now it's like his posture is a little unsteady, like his clothes are wearing him down.
The protagonist does not think so, however Momonga affirms that there are some areas that can't be confirmed just by looking in the mirror. After all, Momonga has been studying how to act like a ruler in his usual robe outfit, but he wonders how far he can go in this outfit. Pandora's Actor sees what Momonga means, and offers to show Momonga the places that are hard to see in the mirror. Considering that the Area Guardian will be appearing as the double for His Majesty the Sorcerer King, the protagonist believes it's a good opportunity for him to dress as Momonga.
Momonga finds it certainly a great chance to see Pandora's Actor as a king. It will help prepare the double, and more than anything, it will give them some insight into how smart people think a king should behave. If it gets too embarrassing, he'll tell them to stop, and if they behave in a good way, he'll imitate the action himself. That way, Momonga won't become a king who goes too far with his Martial Arts training, and he'll be able to learn the proper manners of a perfect king. When that happens, he can go out whenever he wants.
But Momonga thinks this will be good as it also serves as a test for Pandora's Actor as the Sorcerer King's double. Pandora's Actor then assumes Momonga's form and after some kingly acting he performs to Momonga's expectation, finding his dramatic pose as a king to be pretty cool, praising himself for practicing his lordly mannerisms in front of the mirror.
Pandora's Actor, at the protagonist's suggestion, practicing in walking with a dignified and commanding presence. Seeing that Momonga plans to copy that as well. Thus began the Pandora's Actor performing as his creator as the perfect king whilst Momonga studied his kingly behavior without his knowledge.[3]
Pandora's Actor visit the 9th Floor of the Great Tomb of Nazarick to undergo a test from Momonga to see if he could behave like a king as Momonga's double. Behind him followed Arucha and Momonga, who hid himself using "[0Perfect Unknowable]. By chance they meet Head Maid Pestonya and her charges Foire and Cixous.
The maids happily greet what appears to be Momonga, with Cixous complimenting on his choice of attire. "Momonga" admits that he had help in the selection from the protagonist, which Pestonya finds odd but accepts. The protagonist explains the choice of the outfit to the maids, in Momonga's anticipation of a meeting with humans. Since Momonga always went out wearing his official robe, he might end up giving information to hostile forces in the unlikely event that they were there. Furthermore it would be a problem if the humans were intimidated by Momonga's overwhelming appearance, and a conversation wouldn't take place.
Or as "Momonga" claims, to get close to your opponent, it is sometimes necessary to adjust to their level. Cixious thinks this is truly why Momonga is the Supreme Being, as by adapting to the level of humans, he is gaining even more control! The real Momonga, invisible and watching finds Pandora's Actor's acting to be too much...but even if he tells him to stop, he can't due to [Perfect Unknowable] as even his voice can't reach the NPC. Thus he has to rely on the protagonist to keep Pandora's Actor in check and make sure he doesn't go too far in his performance. The protagonist then tells his "liege" that they have to be somewhere else, leading "Momonga" to excuse themselves. The maid, like Foire are truly grateful for the opportunity to learn about "Momonga's" profound thoughts, and "Momonga" tells them to continue to work hard for Nazarick.
After he leaves, Foire feels that the humans are so lucky to be ruled by such a wonderful person, which Pestonya agrees. Cixous thinks they are also blessed to work under Momonga, before reminding her fellow maids that they had enough chatter and must return to work. The maid speak aloud of not wasting to take a minute or a second off, leaving them barely time to sleep.
Momonga was disheartened by the difference in their sensibilities. While he appreciates their enthusiasm, he will have to explain the benefits of breaks to the maids later. Momonga wonders how he can reduce these kinds of misunderstandings with NPCs...but is thankful that the protagonist stopped Pandora's Actor from going too far earlier. Momonga thinks at least he can trust the protagonist as he has sensibilities that are not too far from his own. For now he is going to rely on the homunculus a lot, to step in and correct things. However he never imagined that the protagonist as he watched "Momonga", played by Pandora's Actor, and think, "That was cool, so it should still be okay."
Sometime later, the protagonist enters the Bar, where he is greeting by Clavu. The myconid considers the homunculus appearance at the Bar to be unusual but offers to pour him a drink. The protagonist declines at the moment, as Momonga will be coming soon.
Hearing this, Clavu wants to begin preparations to welcome the Sorcerer King with great pomp, but "Momonga" soon enters. The myconid seeing his guest welcomes him, giving him the full platitudes and service. The real Momonga who is invisible, finds the offer to be pointless as the whatever is served to him will just end up dirtying the floor.
Éclair Éklair Éklare is present at the cocktail bar, who offers "Momonga" to sit next to him. The invitation is accepted by the doppelgänger. The penguin begins a conversation with the new patron, as it's unusual to see "Momonga" and the protagonist here together. And wonders if there something special "Momonga" needs.
"Momonga" denies that he has anything special today, but could say that he just came here to have fun. In response to that, Clavu asks "Momonga" to enjoy himself as his establishment. First the myconid will serve his guest the perfect cocktail he can enjoy to the fullest. Momonga watching though wonders how he will even drink it as he is undead.
As Clavu prepares the drink, Éclair asks if "Momonga" is tired from his days as ruler, that if he wants to take a break, he could take over as ruler any time. Unknown to the penguin, the real Momonga finds the offer a nice gesture. Though "Momonga" gives Éclair a cold stare, before Clavu brings him his drink, and his attention turns to studying it, to Éclair's dismay of being ignored.
Clavu present's his latest piece of having made it for "Momonga" in mind----named it White Porcelain Ruler. The drink is transparent, but when water is added, it becomes hazy white. The myconid explains it represents "Momonga" descending before the humans, hiding his presence as their ruler. To finish it off, he added a red fruit from the 6th Floor. The protagonist who was studying the drink comments that due to the essential oil components of the herbs dissolving in the alcohol it became unstable and turned cloudy when water is added.
"Momonga" finds the concoction to be pretty interesting. With the fruit in it, admits that the scent is really gorgeous, with it being smooth and pleasant to the touch. Clavu feels praised by the review and then presents the protagonist his own drink, one of the our original cocktail drinks, Nazarick.
The protagonist finds it a magnificent cocktail, admiring the ten colored layers. Éclair suggests to Piki he tell him more about the drink. Clavu does that, explaining the drink is still incomplete as the flavor hasn't been quite decided yet. But thought that this cocktail would be perfect for the protagonist regardless. For as the protagonist grows in wisdom and strength for the sake of Nazarick, as he too is not a finished product, but rather like the cocktail that has room to be further improved in the future. The protagonist gratefully accept it.
Pandora's Actor, who was playing the role of Momonga, having removed his fingers from his cocktail glass, the Sous-chef, Clavu, smoothly handed over a cloth to wipe his fingers as the protagonist took a snip of Nazarick. All in all "Momonga" is having a fun time at the Bar, and asks those gathered to continue to enjoy themselves and relax so that they can continue to help everyone's success. Seeing the positive reaction, the real Momonga thinks things went better than expected.
At that moment Shalltear Bloodfallen and two Vampire Brides enter the Bar. Shalltear spotting "Momonga" is surprised to see him. Likewise to "Momonga", who is told by the vampire that she takes breaks, on his orders, and the Bar is where she spends it when she finds time. It's a good idea to "Momonga", as he also appreciates the feel when he invites others to join him, after all a ruler's word should be carried out no matter what.
To Momonga watching he finds this to be an exaggeration as Shalltear excitedly agrees to his body double. Éclair chimes in adding what a wonderful ruler, "Momonga" adding his dream of being a ruler myself--but a quick derisive glare from Shalltear causes him to keep silent. Shalltear then returns to fawning over "Momonga", claiming she is intoxicated by him. An annoyed Clavu though points out that she has not even ordered anything. Not that it would since intoxication would be a poison-like effect, and undead are completely immune to poison. What irks Clavu is that Shalltear is bothering him when "Momonga" gone to the trouble of praising his store.
While watching the Bar patrons, the real Momonga deduces that Clavu has a harder time dealing with the regulars than he thought. Next he plans to come back sometime to thank him and also talk about the cocktail he made, since he doesn't have many opportunities to meet the Sous-chef or Eclair. But misunderstands the situation between Clavu and Shalltear, thinking the cook doesn’t even notice her.
Momonga was also impressed by Pandora's Actor's splendid disguise, and made a mental note of each and every one of Pandora's Actor's potentially useful "cool ruler" gestures. Seeing the exquisite offensive and defensive battle between Clavu and Shalltear, who was completely entranced by Momonga played by Pandora's Actor, the protagonist cleared his throat exaggeratedly to snap Shalltear out of her giddiness.
Though sorry for interrupt her as she is enjoying a pleasant chat with “Momonga”, but “Momonga” did not come to the Bar to take a break for no reason. Éclair finds this to be expected from the Supreme Being. Then protagonist then takes the opportunity to explain that the outfit that "Momonga" is wearing today is also the outfit he will wear when attending human ceremonies and meetings. The bar opens to opinions from the group. For additional information, "Momonga" states that he is also wearing a detection-blocking ring, so humans won't be able to sense his true power leading them to underestimate him
Shalltear comments that that the jet black rope outfit he always wears is supreme, but the beauty of his shining white figure is something to be admired from this new outfit! His overwhelming beauty is enough to inspire awe in those who see him, like a painting, and deserving of the title the King of Beauty. Éclair agrees with Shalltear's words, the outfit is divine, and the harmony with his white porcelain body is splendid. Even if his powers are hidden to match the level of humans, they should be afraid of him, and there is no way they could underestimate him.
Before making another declaration of becoming ruler, Clavu interrupts with a praise to "Momonga", saying that if someone were to underestimate him for not showing his true power, he would deal with them accordingly. That is answered with a confirmation from "Momonga." Shalltear beams with pride, finding it will be fun to imagine the look on the humans' faces when they see her master's power for the first time and looks forward to seeing his efforts in action.
The time for Shalltear to leave, despite having just arrived. The Floor Guardian has to attend the usual Chaos Beast subjugation in the Throne Room, her short stay in the Bar was just to kill time with her subordinates, and unexpectedly met "Momonga". Momonga invisible admires Shalltear as she really thinks about how to reward her subordinates in her own way. He really wishes to see her in action and gets that opportunity when "Momonga" asks if he can accompany her, as he wants to check the combat performance of his equipment.
This honors Shalltear, and accepts the offer and tells her Vampire Brides to stay. "Momonga" tells Clavu to treat the vampires to something good as he goes with Shalltear to the Throne Room, but not before making a dramatic pose much to the cringe of his creator. The Vampire Brides find "Momonga" to be so considerate to them, seeing his as a wonderful person. The vampires found the experience in being recognized by "Momonga" and appreciated by the Overlord to be pleasing, wishing to work directly under him.
Elsewhere at the ruined Throne Room Shalltear allows "Momonga" to take the lead while she follows. The real Momonga watching comments to himself that Pandora's Actor can only reproduce about 80% of an original's power, but it should not be far behind against a Chaos Beast, and be useful as a reference for battle. Yet his thinking is sidetracked when his creation makes another yet unnecessary dramatic pose. By this time Momonga can see that his body double is having too much fun as the Crack activates spewing out Chaos Beasts.[4]
When last Chaos Beasts is killed, Shalltear thanks "Momonga" for his hard work, adding that his fighting ability was excellent. Momonga seeing only 80% of his power, used by Pandora's Actor made it difficult for the Area Guardian to fight more easily. This was noticed by Shalltear as well, asking why "Momonga" intentionally reduced his strength when fighting and hardly used any magic at all.
Luckily Pandora's Actor gives a convincing argument that during the subjugation, he pretended that his opponents were human rebels. If he went all out against humans, he would probably defeated them in an instant. However, there is a concern that this would be beyond the scope of human.
In other words, as Shalltear deduces, being unable to keep up with unexpected situations. If the Overlord were to wield power, it would be a source of fear for the rebels and a source of awe for those who submit. Thus he was trying to wield a level of power that they could properly recognize.
Shalltear finds this to be true. Even the magic she can use with her weakened powers is considered high-level magic beyond the imagination of humans, which goes along with her cover story of the adventurer Shall having power sealed it away. Seeing that she gets, it "Momonga" presents another pose to the real Momonga's irritation. But finds Pandora's Actor's logic to be sound, finding him to be able to think things through before he acts. This makes a good reference for Sorcerer King-like behavior, finding his study of his creation acting as him be more useful than he expected.
The protagonist who has accompanied the group into the Throne Room, thinks Pandora's Actor to selling too much so he provides a good distraction by reminding "Momonga" of other official business. Pandora's Actor takes this as a hint to depart. He thanks Shalltear for the time and not to overwork herself, which the Floor Guardian says it was her pleasure as she had a wonderful time.
After completing the mission to defeat the Chaos Beasts with Shalltear, Pandora's Actor returned to the 9th Floor with the protagonist and Momonga at the Guest Room. After Momonga dispels his invisibility, Pandora's Actor having changed back into his normal form, asks his creator how his performance was as a king. Momonga says it's mostly a success. Above all, he was impressed by his thoughtful consideration, telling the doppelgänger. He knew he could do it, but this exceeded his expectations. Now, if Momonga gets the chance, he'd like to show it to Zaryusu and the others who are heading to the isolated island and see their reaction, just to be sure.
Pandora then starts shaking causing Momonga and the protagonist to ask if he is alright. However it's just Pandora's Actor being excited as so far he has indirectly assisted with various plans up until now, but he is blessed with the opportunity to be of direct help to Momonga, and to receive words of gratitude from him in person. Moved by emotion, he close extremely close to Momonga stating all of this makes him very, very happy as he usually spends a lot of time alone in the Treasure Hall. He used to think that his days are filled with interesting items that the Assistant Diplomat has acquired, and he had no complaints at all...but still, laughing, it's only by spending time with Momonga that he's able to realize, "Oh, maybe I've been a little lonely up until now."
Momonga finds this to be understandable, and at the same time getting uncomfortable by the too close for comfort of Pandora's Actor closeness begins inching way. Whilst Momonga is emotionally overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of Pandora's Actor, the protagonist comments that the fact that they have been able to carry out such important preparations this time is only possible thanks to the one and only Pandora's Actor. In some retrospection, Momonga tried to do various things to make everyone feel appreciated, but he thinks he may have left Pandora's Actor out of the loop a lot. The protagonist while having become somewhat capable of fighting on his own, the opportunities to use Pandora's Actor as a double for the Dark Warrior in preparation for battle are becoming more limited.
To Pandora's Actor, Momonga tells him that he understand that it is difficult to let him out due to his important position in Nazarick. With that in mind--from now on, Momonga will try to be more conscious of spending time with him. This overwhelms Pandora's Actor who then hugs Momonga. Momonga complains that he is too close, reminding his creation he shouldn't get too close for no reason. But tolerates it as their relationship is between creator and created, in other words, in a father-son relationship. But there are dangers in embracing this, therefore, Momonga warns if Pandora's are thought he were special, it may cause friction with others.
Pandora's Actor just wants to hear Momonga call him his "child." Momonga while accepting Pandora's Actor as his son, remind him that there may be times when he will have to set him as a low priority. So when the Treasurer notices that he visits less or hears less from him, to keep this keep in mind. Pandora's Actor gratefully understand this. To both his creation and the protagonist, Momonga states that what was shared may not leave the room. The protagonist who had been watching the exchange between the two, didn't say it aloud, but he was deeply grateful for being able to be present at this precious moment of conversation between father and son, and vowed once again to do even more for the benefit of the Sorcerer Kingdom as he wiped away her tears of emotion.[5]
Around the time that Pandora's Actor passed Momonga's check to see if he could behave as a king--a meeting was held by the Floor Guardians and Sebas Tian. The last to arrive the meeting is Shalltear. Once she takes a seat, Cocytus asks why they have been gathered since it is not the usual time for a regular meeting. Demiurge then tells everyone that there is something that needs to be shared with the Floor Guardians, and gives Albedo the go ahead to deliver the news.
Albedo informs everyone that Momonga is now preparing to appear in public, including in front of humans. Not just in front of the lizardmen, as he has done in the past. The news comes as a surprise to Aura Bella Fiora and Mare Bello Fiore, with the latter thinking it may be disrespectful. Albedo understands the dark elves reaction, but Momonga had insisted that he would make preparations taking that into account.
Shalltear tells everyone that she training in the Throne Room earlier, together with "Momonga", who is currently preparing for that time. Adding that he was able to suppress his strength admirably, assuming he was facing humans. Cocytus sees that if one does not exert their strength, it will not lead to controlling through fear. With an ecstatic look on her face, Shalltear then recounted to the Floor Guardians not only the battle in the Throne Room but also her interaction at the Bar.
Mare surmises that if that's the case, then when Momonga meets humans, even if something happens, he won't fight seriously. Aura believes that means that as ambassadors of the Sorcerer Kingdom, she and her brother will have to act as perfect bodyguards. When that happens, Sebas states that he will support them from among the common people.
This leaves the possibility to Shalltear that she will be involved. As an adventurer, she can also leave whenever she want, swearing she won't let inferior creatures lay a finger on their master. Cocytus also thinks that if Momonga is showing off his true form, it should be okay for him to step out as well. Demiurge states that it may be possible, but believes that his appearance as a warrior may make humans wary. And which according to Albedo would unfortunately, this would mean that Momonga's goal of rule without fear would be impossible.
Cocytus sounds disappointed at hearing that, though Demiurge tells him that there might be another opportunity.
Albedo conveys hat she can understand why Cocytus wants to participate. Demiurge and she were thinking about it too, but everyone's concerns are about the battle side of things, not politics. They must not allow Momonga's true power to be compromised due to a disguise, and for something to happen that could result in him being harmed.
However, as Demiurge points out if Momonga were to use his original equipment, there would be a risk that it would give away information to an unknown enemy. Naturally, Momonga had taken this into consideration as well, such as the preparations with Pandora's Actor.
At the mention of Pandora's Actor, Shalltear prompts for more information, which Shalltear tells her that Momonga had left for the Treasury to prepare the Area Guardian as his double. Hearing all this, Shalltear wonders if the "Momonga" she met earlier was actually Pandora's Actor. Considering the timing, Albedo believes that's probably the case. This causes Shalltear to be disheartened, can't believing that she couldn't see through the fake Momonga.
Demiurge tells her it is to be expected, since their master's presence is also erased by the Detection Impediment Ring. If such measures are taken perfectly, the only thing that can be judged is purely appearance and strength.
Albedo adds that there's no shame in not seeing through it. Rather, she thinks this is a moment to praise to Pandora's Actor for his excellent acting as a double. Aura and Mare though would still like to see it for themselves. All the Floor Guardians are worried about what might happen if Momonga is attacked by an enemy without his original equipment. In addition, they would like to check once again how well Pandora's Actor works as a body double. Cocytus believes that they should check out the appearance and voice, including the combat aspects. This causes Albedo to suggest that they all should check it for themselves.
Sometime later, on 6th Floor close to the Amphitheater, what appears to be Momonga and the protagonist are taking a stroll through the forests to meet with Albedo who wanted to check the Momonga's equipment's performance.
Momonga guesses they're worried about his defense after all. The fact that they specified an arena means they're probably planning a mock battle---An attack from Mare comes from above, causing Momonga to use [Body of Effulgent Beryl] to repel the attack. The protagonist attempts to come to his master's aid, but is told by the Overlord to remain where he is as him casts [Wall of Skeletons] to block additional attacks on him. Said attacks come from Aura out of the underbrush with a bow him hand as she lands next to Mare.
Momonga unperturbed, sees that two were gauging to see if he was fully prepared for a surprise attack. The Overlord then begins casting multiple spells to reinforce himself. When he is done, he asks why the dark elves have hesitated asking if they want to continue.
Aura and mare stand down after tense moment, with Aura apologizing the suddeness. But in order to ensure Momonga's safety, all the Guardians had a discussion and decided to do this surprise attack. However, even if it was for Momonga's own safety, they have shown unforgivable disrespect to his Majesty. So they will accept any punishment. Momonga tells them that they were acting out of concern for him. He had intended to suggest it at some point to dispel their anxieties. Therefore, all is forgiven, and thanks them for thier loyalty.
Momonga ask what they think of him in his outfit. The dark elves exclaim that they find it amazing and thank Momonga for blowing away their pointless worries! Momonga is glad they're convinced. But, Albedo called him to the arena. In that case...the dark elves guide him and the protagonist there, so that they can see for themselves the power of the one they call a ruler - a king.
Momonga having managed to fend off the surprise attack without soiling his pure white robes, then with a fearless smile and still a motionless face, continued towards the arena. There at the Amphitheater floor are Albedo, Demiurge, Shalltear and Cocytus. The Overlord invites them for that fight with him. Demiurge seeing Aura and Mare follow behind their master, deduce that the surprise attack was a failure.
Cocytus thinks it is as expected of Momonga and is in awe of him, the one who defeated the twins. Shalltear asks Momonga to once again show them his fighting style in is new equipment. Albedo finds it's foolish to do something like this to Momonga. However, because they care about him they no choice but to take this course of action. Demiurge says they do not ask for his forgiveness for their disrespect, which is unbecoming of a Guardian. And asks that he punish them when this is all over. And humbly asks that Momonga accepts his foolish wish to touch a part of his power just for now.
Momonga doesn't know what he should punish them for, for acting on his behalf. Besides, they are all faithfully protecting his life when he told you to "think for [themselves]." Their loyalty has certainly been received. This shocks the Guardians beyond words, before Momonga requests that they proceed as he is also interested in how far he could go with his new equipment.[6]
Aftermath[]
After a fierce mock battle that seemed to shake the vast 6th Floor, the Guardians bowed in submission before the strength of the white-robed Momonga. Of course, it was not just his strength - his impeccable bearing as a king was also impressive. Momonga to his loyal subjects believes this victory was only possible because they managed to avoid damaging the Amphitheatre, and because he was able to prepare myself well for the battle. Their strategy and returned powers have all been excellent. It was a good fight, especially considering there was no damage done to Nazarick.
Momonga then has something to confess, apologizing for deceiving them, in that he is actually the real Momonga. Another Momonga then steps out of the shadows, in Momonga's old equipment, who reveals himself as Pandora's Actor. Momonga had tried to make it look the real thing had appeared in response to the Floor Guardians call, and then actually be Pandora's Actor in disguise. He originally had intended to deceive them twice, with a trap to make them think they had seen through the truth. But it looks likes they read through Momonga's hidden intentions and really saw through to the fact that he was the real pne.
Shalltear mentions that she had thought so. Pandora's Actor asks if they noticed early on. From Shalltear, even though she couldn't sense Momonga's presence, his fighting style was completely different from before in the Throne Room. Even if he was fighting with reduced strength, there was no way she could mistake her master. Aura also somehow thought that it wasn't a disguise of Pandora's Actor, but the real Momonga. And so did Mare, after the surprise attack. But, admits that they didn't surprise attack him because they thought he was Pandora's Actor.
Cocytus says that after seeing Pandora's Actor, he was convinced that he was fighting the real Momonga as there was no mistaking the brilliance of his flawless tactics. Albedo immediately recognized Momonga as there was no way she could have mistaken you, after all, he is his beloved!
Demiurge comments that she was on the defensive once she realized it was you. And Albedo guesses that the same applied to him as well. Momonga is a bit disappointed as his trick was exposed so quickly due to not acting perfectly like Pandora's Actor. Accoridng to Demiurge, not at all. When Demiurge contacted Momonga, he thought that Momonga would naturally be able to see what their concerns were. That Momonga would surely come to fight them himself. But it's not that he felt anything strange about his disguise and Pandora's Actor's.
Since they found out his plan, Momonga addresses their concerns, seeing that they all seemed more worried about how well he could fight with this equipment he is wearing than the accuracy of Pandora's Actor's disguise. So he thought that he might be able to ease your anxiety if he dealt with them directly. The Floor Guardians are touched that Momonga went so far to consider their feelings on his safety.
Momonga tells them it's mostly a given, nothing to worry about as he his showered with thanks from his followers. As for the human nations, Momonga declares that they have already been turned into puppets. From now on, if necessary, he will act as a decoy himself to eliminate any elements that could harm Nazarick. He wants to do his best to be fully prepared for the match against Kuyo and hopes everyone will do the same. This is met with a chorused of agreement from the Floor Guardians.
Sometime later in Momonga's office, Demiurge is sitting down with Momonga reporting that Albedo and the others are probably reporting about His Majesty the Sorcerer King and checking the humans' reactions. With Momonga taking part in human politics, they may be able to delve deeper into the opaque aspects of the Theocracy. Momonga has the same thought, now that he's been able to show his true colors as the Sorcerer King, he feels like he's gained some confidence.
