Faine (ファーイン) was the former trump card of the Slane Theocracy.
Appearance[]
Faine was described as a woman with an expressionless face, as if she was wearing a mask. She had glass-like cold eyes.
Personality[]
It is unknown what Faine’s original personality was before her trauma, but from Antilene’s perspective, Faine was a broken woman who was cold and utterly hated her daughter due to being the child of her violator. As shown from her “training” with her daughter, Faine herself had no problem if her brutal training methods ended up killing her daughter, having simply stated that she was strong enough to survive the resurrection process if needed.
Despite this abusive treatment however, since she never actually killed Antilene, nor injured or harmed her body to the extend that it would permanently kill her and render resurrection magic useless, her daughter suspected that her mother may have some love for her.
Background[]
Faine was a God-kin, thus making her a descendant of one of the Six Great Gods.
At one point in the past, she was tricked by the King of the Elves and was captured. Under captivity, Faine was chained and raped by her captor. The forced union resulted in her being impregnated with the Elf King’s child. Before she could give birth, Faine was rescued by the Black Scripture and returned to her homeland.
After Faine came to term with her pregnancy, the child was named Antilene Heran Fouche. However due to the girl being a constant reminder of her trauma, only begrudgingly caring for her and constantly put the young Antilene through a strict training regime that primarily involved beating her within an inch of her life.

The Ruler of Conspiracy[]

During a meeting with Six Cardinals and executives of the Theocracy when it was stated that the war with the elves was to satisfy a certain girl’s need to avenge her mother, Faine, some of the members believed it would finally put the girl’s heart at ease. However a few voiced their disapproval of their predecessors in how they raised the girl to allow her to develop such a personality under the care of her mother.[1]
The Craftsman of Dwarf[]

The woman was briefly reminisced by the Elf King after dismissing one of his mistresses for annoying him with concerns of the frontline against the Theocracy’s advance in his kingdom.[2]
The Half Wood Elf God-kin Arc[]

Antilene had a dream of the time when she was raised by Faine. It showcased the woman’s utter physical abuse in what she called training. Nazaire who was present in the memory attempted to distract Faine from further training, trying to use Antilene’s injuries as an excuse to take a break. The housemaid then offered to prepare drinks for both herself and Antilene, stating that the two were probably exhausted, though Faine ignored her and proceeded to use healing magic on her daughter and resumed ‘training’.[3]
During the assault on the elven capital, Antilene who was in her tent with General Valerian Ein Obinie, briefly pondered about her grudge against her bastard father. She admitted that it was Faine's grudge and was passed down to her. Reflecting on her life of hardship, Antilene briefly wondered if maybe her anger should be directed not at her father but her mother, since she was dead, the half-elf jokingly entertained the idea of taking revenge on her mother's homeland. Though Antilene believed that she needed a third party's perspective on what her mother thought and planned to look at the records of the Theocracy.
Upon meeting Decem, Faine was brought up by Antilene noting that like her mother she never felt an ounce of pity for him, having no regrets when she killed him twice over, and avenging Faine.[4]
Abilities and Powers[]
Faine was hailed to be the trump card of the Theocracy and was regarded their strongest defender at the time.
From Antilene’s memories, it’s indicative that Faine was a magic caster who had access to healing magic.

- Club: In training Faine wielded a club which she used to brutally beat Antilene bloody and crying.
Relationships[]
Decem Hougan[]
Decem raped Faine in order to bear him a strong child. But due to her being a strong woman, he admired her. Unfortunately, the same is not reciprocated by Faine who no doubts despise the elf for what he did to her.
Nazaire[]
Nazaire was a subordinate of Faine that acted as her housemaid and cook. Unlike Faine, she acted more as a mother to her bastard daughter and disapproved of the woman’s abusive treatment of Antilene.
Antilene Heran Fouche[]
Faine never loved her daughter as she found the child born from her rape to be extremely unpleasant. She never provided any words of encouragement to Antilene, called her by her name not celebrated her birthday. The only interaction Faine had with Antilene was the constant beating which Faine called training. Though the older woman could have killed her child, she refrained from doing so, keeping Antilene alive enough to use healing magic to continue her physical abuse. Although unconfirmed, it was hypothesized by Antilene that the reason why her mother didn’t outright kill her was due to her having the very least a minuscule amount of love for her.
However, despite not killing her herself, Faine has implied that she had no problem if Antilene died from the stress and injuries from their “training” and simply stated that she would have her resurrected, as she was powerful enough to survive the process.
As admitted by Antilene, she felt a mix of both anger, resentment and love for her mother. This is seen where she felt a level of sympathy for her mother due to her violation by the Elf King, but at the same time she also resented her mother’s abusive treatment of her and wondered if she ever loved her at all. Due to her mother having died, Antilene still retained her mixed and confusing feelings towards her mother, with her later admitting to have focused on exterminating her father due to wanting to vent out all her anger and frustrations at him due to him being the root cause of her unhappy childhood.

- Since Faine never called Antilene by her name, she suspects that her mother probably didn’t know her name and maybe that someone else named her.
- Though not explicitly stated, being the Slane Theocracy’s trump card, she may have been a member of the Black Scripture.
