E-Rantel In Disguise (仮装・偽装のエ・ランテル) is a game event in Mass for the Dead that was released on October 5, 2023 to October 19, 2023. The event was re-released on October 7, 2024 to October 16, 2024.[1]
Background[]
After overcoming the shock of the disaster, E-Rantel is now on the brink of recovery. However, there are still many people who are saddened by the thoughts of those who will not return. In order to heal the residents and raise their morale, the city mayor yearn for the popular Sorcerer Kingdom-style harvest festival and the princess who was the driving force behind it---[2]
Incident[]
At the Round Table Room a meeting is held before Momonga, Albedo, Demiurge and seemingly Slimeko and the protagonist.
The meeting was opened by Momonga as a place to share information with the higher-ranking Greater Doppelgängers who have taken the forms of the latter two. From their report, the humans in E-Rantel want to hold a "Greetings and Victory" festival again. This was a somewhat sudden proposal, and hence why the doppelgängers posing as the protagonist had put the matter on hold, as he told the humans he planned to bring it back to his home country and get permission.
The two impersonator would like to borrow Momonga’s and everyone’s wisdom on this matter. Momonga agrees it to be a rare situation for humans to proactively make a request toward them. Albedo hopes this is a result of the progress of human beings becoming their puppets.
Momonga isn’t displeased by the notion, but to host a "Greetings and Victory Festival" aka Halloween Festival seems arbitrary as the importance of holiday was to celebrate in the collective work of harvesting. While the event is a harvest festival it was started out as an old legend from the Sorcerer Kingdom.
Although Albedo states that the humans enjoyed the actives of the festival: walking around the city in costumes, greeting residents, and visiting residents' homes to distribute harvests. At the conclusion, a mock battle demonstration even was held.
Demiurge notes that by disguising it as a festival originating from the Boastful Sage in a plan to strengthen their cover story that illustrious figure originated from their nation, and to make it appear that he is on the same level as Momonga, a “player.”
The fake protagonist agrees that the plan they made was really great, however, regarding this matter, it is difficult for him to judge the best reaction as a substitute.
Momonga tells him there is no need to be so afraid. He thinks the two are doing a good job of acting as substitutes. As Albedo said, there is a high possibility that the request this time was due to a dependence that had progressed into becoming puppets.
If the two still think they are uneducated, and need to know more, he offers Albedo, and Demiurge to explain the current situation of E-Rantel again. Even if it is information, it will probably be filtered by each person's own perception. So if the two doppelgängers listen to them, they might be able to realize something new as intended as part of the “horenso” initiative.
Albedo then explains that’s E-Rantel has collapsed due to the threat known as the Calamity of the Cracks that occurred a few months ago, due to the sudden appearance of the Crack in the city and the attack of the chaos beasts that emerged from it. Many humans died or disappeared. Even Nazarick’s side, Yuri, CZ, Solution, the protagonist and Slimeko’s whereabouts are unknown.
Momonga muses that since they are not treated as dead, they are unable to revive them. Despite this the Overlord wishes to do something about it. Demiurge laments that the damage was severe. However, in response to this unprecedented disaster, the Sorcerer Kingdom provided a wide range of tangible and intangible aid. As for the lost talent, Nazarick assigned Greater Doppelgängers to take their place. E-Rantel is now undergoing a renaissance that is better than ever. Demiurge is aware that humans are now their followers...but this is only a matter of politics.
In this case Albedo has the idea that the desire for the festival is about something else: to alleviate the mental burden on people living in cities. According to Panasolei Gruze Day Rettenmaier, the mayor of Elantel, the Festival of the Sorcerer Kingdom, where everyone wears costumes, celebrates the restoration and heals everyone's broken hearts. From the two doppelgängers, the mayor wants to get used to the foreign races that are rapidly infiltrating the city, especially the undead. This he thinks the "Greetings and Victory" festival is the best way to eliminate racial prejudice and barriers.
Momonga thinks it would be an auspicious victory if they wanted to dispel any sense of aversion towards them who are providing aid. Albedo suspects that besides the Greetings and vVctory Festival, humans still have other requests. This is proven true by the fake protagonist stating that the human mayor acted like he was trying to get ahead of them, but the humans had the audacity to say things that were even more convenient. Fake Slimeko apologizes for the inconvenience, but they would like to ask everyone to give their approval.
Back during the discussion with Panasolei and a few select members, at the Tripartite Alliance venue, that had been recently repaired. Pluton Ainzach who is also present comments that the building’s reconstruction is relieving is sadden that the lost human resources are not coming back. In particular, there are very few survivors in the Sunlight Scripture. Without Nigun and Ian...those who are left have returned to the Theocracy.
The Sunlight Scripture that guarded the city have now been replaced by an army of undead. Of course the guildmaster trust their safety, but for the residents who are not close to the people of the Sorcerer Kingdom it is another story. Emperor Jircniv agrees with this assessment as there are many people who are not at peace with the new situation with the undead. And while Ainzach believes that it may be impossible to get used to, he would still like to make an effort to bridge the gap. In any case the mayor does think it's a good idea for the people of the Sorcerer Kingdom be shunned because of this, hence why the men requested the hosting of the Greetings and Victory Festival.
Understanding the situation, the fake protagonist first would like to get a confirmation from his homeland, but agrees that it would be desirable for his nation to eliminate prejudice on other races. As the mayor promises to make the proper arrangements, Jircniv adds that the goal of making the Sorcerer Kingdom an irreplaceable compatriot is a dream he is willing to make happen.
To the imposter this marks, the emperor as entirely in love with the Sorcerer Kingdom, or infatuated with the missing protagonist. The doppelgänger finds it irksome in dealing with Jircniv as it would be simpler to control him, but notes the impossibility due to the emperor's magic item protecting him and the heteromorph is unable to extract information from superficial thoughts.
Ainzach also wishes to have another "exchange tournament." Last event was held inviting people outside to replenish the number of adventurers which had decreased during the reconstruction phase of the city. The mayor finds the idea appealing as it would show the outside world that E-Rantel is still alive and well and hopes the two people who had previously visited will show up. Ainzach names them to be Shall and Ku, the pair of adventurers who were traveling together in search of a way to undo a curse. He recalls that Shall was a former member of a noble family. He notes that the pair was a surprise and delight to the recovering people of E-Rantel and that their mock battles with the Sunlight Scripture were awe-inspiring. Impressed by their reputations, Jircniv asks where the pair are now.
Last Ainzach heard, having been inspired by the Blue Roses, they decided to form a team and go on a journey to train again. In the end, they didn't receive adventurer plates. He seriously, wonders what the women have been doing these days. That’s when the guildmaster makes another request to the fake protagonist, which is to find Shall and Ku and let them participate in the Greetings and Victory Festival.
After the reminiscing, Momonga ponders on what to do. At this moment, E-Rantel is an has the potential to be indebted to the Sorcerer Kingdom --- and the situation is when the influence of the Theocracy is weak. However, of course there is a risk of sending Shalltear out. But the benefit that outweighs this, is that it normalizes the worries of humans.
Demiurge suspecting that they will need Shalltear on this discussion asks where she is currently. He is answered by Albedo stating that at this time, he Shalltear should be in the Throne Room subjugating the Chaos Beasts.
In the Lemegeton, Shalltear contends with several Chaos Beasts. There she senses that someone is talking about her behind her back. Though annoyed she concentrates on subjugating the Chaos Beasts as it takes priority.
Once her task is done, Aura greets Shalltear to personally collect her at the request of Momonga. At this Shalltear reacts negatively thinking that she is being summons for doing something wrong. Aura surprised is incredulously that the vampire does not know either. Regardless Shalltear supposes it should be a good thing that Momonga is calling for her. However she wonders maybe if he is cautious of her due to the mind control incident.
At the Round Table Room, Momonga states that it is unnecessary to talk about the merits of the Sorcerer Kingdom when accepting a request from E-Rantel. In addition, he mentions that this event could benefit in Shalltear's mental recovery. Thus he asks Albedo and Demiurge on their opinions before the vampire arrives. Albedo also agrees with the idea of sending Shalltear to E-Rantel, especially if it's a good opportunity to gather information on the enemy. As of now the Theocracy is the most likely suspect of mind controlling Shalltear. In the current E-Rantel, where most of their personnel have relocated, it would now be possible to verify the existence of enemies other than the religious nation.
By having Shalltear appear in public, it will be beneficial no matter how the enemy reacts. Given now that the Theocracy's influence is weak, Albedo believes that it would be passible for the Sorcerer Kingdom to take on a wide range of responses to such movements. Demiurge supports Albedo in this view, as its a good plan, since things won't improve by sitting still and even now they still don't known much about this unknown enemy even after extracting information from Shalltear.
Albedo also guesses that when Shalltear was mind controlled, she wonders perhaps the enemy suffered a certain amount of damage as well. If that is the case, it could explain why there has not been any attack on Nazarick. The two demons make valid points, though Momonga believes that the enemy's lack of action should not be assumed to be cowardice but prudence. Hence there is always the possibility that the enemy is preparing for an attack.
Even so Demiurge thinks they should press the advantage and make a move. In the worst case scenario, there is a possibility that the enemy will try to arrange something again, with a World Item. Momonga does not want to ignore the situation, but finds that they are still lacking in information. The Overlord wonders how much the enemy knows about Nazarick, though he is sure that Shalltear's face has been exposed, at the mind control incident, hence why Momonga has kept her out of the field. He is reminded by Albedo that Shalltear wants to actively play a part for Nazarick, though admits the final decision rests with him.[3]
Later Shalltear having been summoned to the 9th Floor stands before Momonga in the Round Table Room. The vampire is amazed at hearing the humans in E-Rantel are looking for her. Momonga elaborates that their nation received a request to find Shall and Ku and arrange for them to participate in the “Halloween” costume festival held in E-Rantel. Albedo includes that after the invasion of Jaldabaoth, the warm exchanges with her and Kyuko from the outside left a deep impression on the humans as a symbol of recovery.
Demiurge tells Shalltear by allowing the adventurer Shall and her partner Ku to appear again, the people of E-Rantel will be able to receive mental relief, and economic activity and human labor can be expected to improve. There are advantages for the Sorcerer Kingdom, as Shalltear is well aware she was mentally controlled by a mysterious being in the Katze Plains. The existence of the enemy has not yet been confirmed. And there is still inherent risk of allowing Shalltear to expose herself, thus he asks what the vampire wants to do. Shalltear seeing as her adventurer persona had a good impression on the humans, then she will take full advantage of it. Furthermore she would like to help the protagonist, who is currently absent, in making E-Rant, which has been steadily turning into a puppet state, for Nazarick.
Aura takes the moment to mention of having seen the results of puppetization in E-Rantel, and also Momonga clever “safety device”. Though even with that the dark elf reminds everyone they cannot let their guard down.
Shalltear unfamiliar with the said “safety device” inquires about it. Aura then elaborates that the origin of the Sorcerer Kingdom comes from the “Boastful Sage”. The name of the character is just a cover story to explain to outsiders how their country developed independently based on the remnants of that famous individual.
Demiurge adds that the cover story was invented out of concern for the existence of "other players”. As it is possible that the one who had mentally controlled Shalltear was one. To Albedo, in any case, there is no information available regarding this. But this is what Momonga has judged and both she and Demiurge draw a conclusion of a specific intent of why Momonga asked what Shalltear would line to do in E-Rantel. Not seeing it was just to check on the vampire’s motivation for the mission, instead they lead Shalltear to “see” what Momonga wants her to do.
Shalltear struggles to think of what other intent Momonga wants her to do in E-Rantel. From the latest intel on the city, it suffered great damage from the disaster, which led to the Sorcerer Kingdom taking advantage of the reconstruction efforts and infiltrated various nations, turning them into puppets.
Shalltear then realizes that Nigun and Ian from the Slane Theocracy are absent. Those two priests normally would look on at the Sorcerer Kingdom with suspicious eyes but now they are free from their oversight. Albedo affirms that's correct. The Sunlight Scripture is half destroyed, and those who remain have returned to their homeland. Although there still a minimum number of personnel in E-Rantel, involved in communication and intelligence. Thus Albedo states their master wishes to take advantage of this situation to more clearly expose those who are hostile to them. Momonga observing the dialogue is stunned of how his concern for wanting to check on Shalltear's personal motivation, but seeing how Shalltear came to the same conclusions of the situation impresses him.
To that end Albedo declares that for this mission Shalltear will be used as a decoy. Hearing leaves Momonga in dismay. The Overseer Guardian goes on to say that distribution of chocolate as trade goods in E-Rantel from their Idol Project relates to the Greetings and Victory Festival that will be hosted. Through Momonga's vision, they have been disguising events that did not previously exist in this world, passing them as old customs from the Boastful Sage and using them to stir things up. Demiurge states that the whole point of introducing these customs is to reveal the movements of players and the existence of World Items. They have already turned the Re-Estize Kingdom and Baharuth Empire into their puppets, so there are no secrets for them to delve for.
That is not the case for the last nation, the Slane Theocracy, which Shalltear now understands is the most likely perpetrator who used a World Item on her and mind controlled her. While the Theocracy may seen the true culprit, Albedo does not discount there may be other forces at work, thus why they put the current plan for the Greetings and Victory Festival in action. If Shalltear can stay safely in E-Rantel during the festival then it will confirm that the Theocracy was responsible.
To Aura it will mean that their list of suspects will be reduced and be a perfect chance to gather information. The plan is to Shalltear's satisfaction even if being a decoy as she takes joy to be of use to Momonga. Momonga hearing her say that, is disappointed that his servants are reading too much into his him, but their plan does have merit and remains silent in correcting them. Instead he tells Shalltear to keep to the plan and to make this year's event more festive. Underlining to be aware that humans are fragile and delicate. If they wish the Three Kingdoms to be their puppets, it be a problem if their labor force was diminished so he expects that the population of E-Rantel to increase after this uplifting festival.
Albedo stresses the importance of this event as this time, the request came from the human side. If they undertake this task and accomplish it, their trust and dependence on the Sorcerer Kingdom will become even more solid than ever. Besides, even if an enemy were to appear, it could expose an unknown force and the possibility if they have a World Item. However, even in that case, if Shalltear takes advantage of the fact that the government has little oversight, she will be able to create a situation where Shall can wield more power than usual.
In that case, Aura volunteers to accompany Shalltear as they will need someone from the Sorcerer Kingdom to find the adventurer Shall and take him to E-Rantel and in the event of an emergency, it's really reliable to have her there as she possesses senses to be able to respond to unknown forces. Her inclusion is permitted by Momonga, and the Sorcerer King also announces his intent to call out to the remaining Pleiades as intelligence and military forces. For Shalltear and Aura they are instructed to work together with Entoma as their liaison and get things done.
Aura and Shalltear affirm to Momonga that they will comply with his orders to liven up the festival. When it comes to events, Shalltear intends to show off her training from all the idol activities.[4]
At night in grassland near the Great Tomb of Nazarick, after confirming its safety by the summons and others, adventurers Shall and Aura reveal their appearances. Shall exhibits gladness of being able to don her adventurer persona and thanks Aura for being her escort.
Aura happy to see Shall look so nostalgic, reminds the undercover Floor Guardian to wear the ring that nullifies detection and to recite her cover story. Shall dramatically tells her dark elf friend that she is a person who has been “cursed” leaving her magic to be sealed away. Aura playing along states that by the time they get to the Great Forest of Tob, Shall should have regained her ability to use the staff. Shall then, declares its time to start her adventurer journey.
Meanwhile Momonga gathers the three Pleiades - Lupusregina, Narberal, and Entoma - in his office and explains his plan for them to go to E-Rantel and participate in the "Halloween" Festival in costume. Along with the excitement of the festival—-he would like to ask them to monitor for any disturbing human movements during the event. This time, Shalltear is disguised as an adventurer and is the centerpiece of the festival so they need to be especially careful around her.
Lupusregina finds the mission to be exciting, although Narberal questions if they are moving out due to the waning influence of the Theocracy in E-Rantel. Momonga admits that there's an aspect to it, but this time, it's unusual, and there's a request from the humans to have “Halloween'' again from the Sorcerer Kingdom. Additionally Shalltear's appearance is part of that. Albedo elaborates that specifically the adventurer Shall, who visited E-Rantel before, was quite well-liked. Momonga wants to respond to the request in order to make the position of the Sorcerer Kingdom which contributed to E-Rantel’s reconstruction even more strong.
Narberal understands as she was there last time when Shalltear went to E-Rantel for an exchange match to recruit adventurers. And is not surprised that she is being called again as her success there fascinated the lowly humans.
Momonga adds that this event will have mock battle called a dedication demonstration to liven things up. If necessary, the maids can also join in and make the festival more exciting.
Lupusregina plans to take advantage of her undercover identity as a worker in the Empire. While Narberal has no problem walking amongst humans, Entoma’s presence might be an issue as she could be recognized as a subordinate of Jaldabaoth, making it a bit dangerous even if she can disguise herself.
That's being said, Albedo states they are sending Shalltear out as a decoy, so they will need Entoma who has abilities for espionage. In Momonga’s belief the most likely candidate of who placed mental control over Shalltear is someone from the Theocracy. However, they are still in the process of elimination and so far it’s just an opinion and has no basis for it.
If Shalltear gets some kind of reaction when she is exposed to the public eye in this case, it might be possible to narrow down their suspects. Entoma understands that this in itself is a useful basis and will hide in a house, where she will serve as everyone's coordinator and provide intelligence on the surrounding area. Even though Momonga doubts it's likely to happen, but even if a battle does occur, he is assured in Entoma ability to provide magic and a wide range of tactics.
Out of the seven Pleiades, Aureole and the current three are the only ones left. Despite acting calm and collected, Momonga thinks that they are lacking in energy. Although he personally would like to let them rest for a while, since he needs help in sending Shalltear off he can’t as he wants to lower the risk as much as possible. To the contrary, the maids are well aware that Momonga is using this mission as a distraction from their worry on the fate of their missing sister. Thus they welcome the task to please their master and make him feel at ease.
Albedo informs the women that costumes will be prepared for them. The Overseer Guardians has taken charge in preparing costumes for Shalltear and Aura, but among these, she asks what the Pleiades would prefer to wear. Narberal believes that the equipment she had previously is sufficient. And thus asks Albedo give priority to the guests of honor, Aura and Shalltear. Albedo has no issue with this and welcomes the opportunity to hear their opinions with Momonga's permission. The maids then agree to visit Albedo's room for their costume fitting.
Much later at the Great Forest of Tob, Shalltear and Aura arrive, and they explain the situation to Hamsuke and Kyuko. The fox-girl is happy to participate once again with "Shall." The fox goes to retrieve her sword and then changes into her undercover identity "Ku." Now that the two undercover agents look their roles, Shall makes it clear that their story will be that "Shall" was on a training trip and reunited with "Ku" at one point to travel together to create an adventurer party. Details on their journey will be decided by both them later. For the mock battles on this mission, Ku thinks that they can cut loose in order to show the "results" of their training from their journey as part of their cover story.
Shall intends to show how she has "improved more than before", such as his ability to work with Ku and her regained ability to use a wand. Hamsuke listening to the conversation comments the complexity of their plan, though Ku assures her that its fine as she heard that there are high ranking Greater Doppelgängers currently taking the place of the protagonist, Slimeko, and Soi. Compared their hardships of maintaining appearance the doppelgängers have it harder. Hamsuke still wonders on what happened to the missing trio, as so far the hamster only heard that the three are not dead. Aura adds that Yuri and CZ have also disappeared. And while she worries for their safety, they must do their best to do what they can now. Shall then believes they need to focus on the mission, as it seems that Momonga will also send the remaining three Pleiades to E-Rantel. This is probably due to the idea that they should make E-Rantel into a puppet so that when the missing people return, they will be pleasantly surprised.
Aura agrees as if their comrades heard the excuse that they couldn't do anything because they were sad, everyone who came back would be shocked— or if they were her probably be angry. Shall thus believes that they would most likely share their joy when they hear of their accomplishment and strives to work hard on this task. Hamsuke embolden by her comrades vows to protect the of forest in Ku;s abscene for Nazarick. Back on the cover story, Ku has some difficulty on contriving one, but Aura has an idea from Demiurge. From the demon, Shall admits that his advice may seem a little unscrupulous, but she and along with Ku are fine with it. Said cover story for Ku is being "a princess of a different race who is a warrior, protecting Shall,'' who was originally set to be her concubine. The group then has other concerns, as reminded by a Death Knight. It is time to cull the Chaos Beasts from the Crack which they plan to help Hamsuke with before they depart.[5]
At the fortified city of E-Rantel, various parts of the city that had recovered from the unprecedented disaster called the Calamity were bustling with energy, as if they were in the middle of repairs. On the streets laborers are coordinating with each other with hopeful atmosphere whilst being directed by Saint Clementine.
She then joins Ainzach, Jircniv, Slimeko and the protagonist who are overseeing the work. Clementine comments that the safety checks and repairs on major streets are progressing smoothly. The "protagonist" thanks her as now the preparations for the area around the venue are now mostly complete. As for costumes, "Surako" reports that the repairs and adjustments to the previous ones have almost been completed. Right now, the people in charge of costumes are getting excited about preparing new pieces.
Ainzach is looking forward to that and shares that the Imperial Knights will also be taking action regarding the safety which he thanks the emperor. The emperor is happy to help, even though he personally has some bad memories of the city square. So he wants to wash away that horrible memory with a good feeling as soon as possible with the Greetings and Victory Festival.
Clementine believes there are also residents who feel the same way and are cooperating. The wounds that remain in the city are being repaired, but the wounds in the heart cannot be easily repaired. Jircniv admits he does have bright memories of the protagonist's bravery, but the experience with Jaldabaoth still lingers and wishes to wipe away.
The fake protagonist recalls that during the attack by Jaldabaoth, Jircniv was about to be executed on the guillotine set up in the city square. The one who saved him was the Jet-Black Warrior—or the "protagonist". Still the fake protagonist thanks the emperor for his consideration in the safety of the festival. There are skeleton warrior on patrol throughout the city. The emperor admits that the undead soldiers of the Sorcerer Kingdom are truly reliable and hard workers. However, that appearance would be a bit exciting for a festival. Even if it gets a little confusing with everyone's costumes it would be better if there was a human knights in the mix.
Even Aizanch finds that to be wise as although the residents have gotten used to them, they will feel even more at ease if they see the Imperial Knights. Not only that it would be reassuring to those visiting E-Rantel as mentioned by Clementine. Ainzach then inquires on the whereabouts of Shall and her partner. The fake protagonist replies that the Sorcerer Kingdom is conducting a search. There is no new information yet, he expects there to be soon. The guildmaster highly anticipates the appearance of the two adventurers, which is agreed upon by Surako as they will thrilling participants at the dedication demonstration. There are some people from the Empire who want to participate...Nimble and Leinas who want to return the favor of being revived.
At that time. Somewhere in the Baharuth Empire, in the hideout of the New Six Arms Zero learns that the Imperial Knights participation in the E-Rantel festival from Regi. From the female member of New Six Arms she discloses that the festival is related to the Sorcerer Kingdom where everyone dresses up in order to eliminate racial prejudice that it is called Greetings and Victory.
There will be a mock battle tournament at the festival, and Regi believes that there is an opportunity to be able to make some money. She plans to head there herself and then report back when its done. Zero though decides to join her. While he is not interested in festivities of the costumes, but it's convenient for him that the Imperial Knights are at the mock battle. Not only that Jircniv is there and it will be a good opportunity to show off his power.
Zero orders Malmvist and Peshurian to keep things in order while he is away. Iguva is also order to begin readying the Ghost Ship. Before they leave Peshurian mentions Shizuni who was Regi partner and is still missing. Though despite this the other woman still seems cheerful. Malmvist wonders if Zero went with Regi order of concern for their teammate, and hope they have a good time.
At E-Rantel, the second "Halloween" festival was held. The streets are lined with people in a wide variety of costumes, allowing participants to visually understand that this festival transcends appearance and class, and removes any resistance to interaction that transcends race.
Many characters in the city have dressed up like Soi and Lakyus in their bunny costumes; Tina and Tia in their swimsuits; Evileye in a mummy costume etc. There is cheerful topic of reconstruction leading to humorous stories involving different races, creating a cheerful atmosphere different from the vibrancy of the reconstruction era. The children and adults smile, and are invited to visit the stalls lining the road leading to the central plaza. Seeing the rich harvest, the participants remember that this festival was also a harvest festival.
In the city square Jircniv is standing with Clementine and Surako who now dons a yukata. The whole scene of the festival is pleasing to the eye to the emperor, impressed thatthe event originated as a festival from the Sorcerer Kingdom, finding it a wonderful and rustic custom, typical of a country where many different races live together.
The protagonis expresses his appreciation for those words and is am happy to see the bright faces of the people living in the city. Additionally he is glad to see that the Imperial Knights and the Blue Rose are also actively participating in the venue. Clementine finds that in this case, opportunities for interaction that transcend one's position or status are valuable and precious.
The fake protagonist hastily agrees with the saint, though he is sure that the real protagonist would think that this is a truly useful intelligence opportunity. And the fake would like to take advantage of this rare situation. Jircniv finds everything so lively and hopes the "protagonist" will forgive him for not allowing him or his bodyguards to change into costume. This is no problem with the fake protagonist as there are others in the crowd who refrained from wearing a costume, such as Gagaran in order to act as security. Surako adds that the residents of the city are probably excited to meet the Imperial Knights up close.
Among the crowd, Clementine's attention is drawn to three figures: Ku with Shall in a nurse's costume and Aura in a beast-girl costume. Upon seeing them the fake protagonist is glad to see them arrive as he was informed in a report later that day they were found. Clementine while happy to see them safe, notes them to be more docile than before. Surako supposes that a lot has happened with Shall and her friends, so it is to be expected. Thinking she is right, Clementine hopes this festival will be a place of healing for the two adventurers.
Back in Momonga's office, the current situation was being shared based on reports from those who participated in the plan. Albedo muses that their agent did not notify the humans of Shall's discovery in advance, but left it as a surprise for that day. Demiurge finds that to be appropriate, as if they let the humans know in advance, they'll probably ask questions like where they've been and it'll be annoying. Demiurge is sure though they'll give some kind of explanation after the festival ends.
Momonga thinks while Shall is posing as a "heartbroken princess," it seems like it'll be enough. This is of course a strategy that appeals to human emotions rather than rational consistency. On the topic of the movements of the three Pleiades, according to a report from Entoma, they have secured a room in E-Rantel and are already continuing to monitor Shalltear. Lupusregina has informed them that she is departing from the Empire using a Ghost Ship and will soon arrive at E-Rantel. Once there she will work together with Sebas and the shadow demons. All that's left to do now is wait for the fruits for their labors.
At the hotel suite, in E-Rantel, Narberal now wearing a witch's costume comments that she can see the central plaza from their window. Entoma dressed in a yukata finds it to be perfect. There are a lot of humans around, but Shall and Ku are getting a lot of attention, so it's easy to keep an eye on them. Entoma is confident that she can have her insects blend in with the crowd and not be noticed.
Narberal then reminds Entoma to try and not and "grab a snack" as even though there are a lot of humans it would draw too much attention to them. Entoma told her sist not to worry as Momonga provided her with human meat that was stored on the 5th Floor. This causes Narberal to marvel at Momonga's love and care for them. Entoma brings back her worries about Yuri and CZ but decides to do her best on this mission. Narberal agrees with her as she doesn't think Yuri would want her to be the reason why they're not doing well so they must complete the mission perfectly so that Momonga can feel at ease.
As for what Lupusregina is doing now, Entoma states that their sister will be heading this way on a ghost ship as according to Momonga. Narberal is sure that Lupusregina is fully aware that this is an important mission, so she'll be fine. The Pleaides maid plans on attending the dedication demonstration, so she can follow up on the collaboration with Sebas and the others. For Entoma she will continue to monitor Shall commenting on the difficulty of doing so with her being being surrounded by humans.[6]
At the city plaza, character like Sebas and the goblins Gokou and Kaijali are in the crowd. It is crowded with greetings ad praise to the harvest, dressing up in costumes. Among them, there was one corner that was buzzing with voices celebrating their reunion. Residents gather to greet the adventurers who had visited for the first time in a long time. Shall and Ku are not the only ones who is met with gladness as Aura is recognized by some of the younger children as the girl who handed out chocolates from the Sorcerer Kingdom.
Lakyus notes how popular the women are and adds she is glad to see that they have safety returned to E-Rantel. Everyone in town seems to be smiling even more when they see Shall and Ku in good health. The rest of Blue Roses get reacquainted with the two adventurers and dark elf. When the ladies begin prying into what Shall and Ku have been up to, Shall uses the strategy that Demiurge advised her, which telling them a little about her own misfortune similar to the disaster that befell E-Rantel. From her brief mention, Shall indicates that she previously had companions and was traveling with them only to lose them after the disaster. Lakyus admittingly tells that it was tumultuous time and decides that it be best to not mourn the past and instead rejoice at the reunion and enjoy the festival.
On how to make the festival more fun, Shall suggests a dedication performance with her and Ku as the main attractions. The members of Blue Roses are taken to the idea as they want to see how Shall and Ku have improved and likewise want to show off their own skills. With just a few words, the undercover agents were able to successfully guide the humans to their direction of their plans.
The celebration is interrupted by a new voice, which is revealed to be Regi who is guiding Zero through the crowd to where the guests of honor are. Lakyus takes Zero presence bitterly, finding its important to see him alive and well. Zero seeing her caution towards him, assures the adamantite adventurer he is just tagging along with his subordinate who wanted to see the festival. His main purpose is to find the Imperial Knights and participate in the mock battle.
Regi declares that her boss is aiming to become an Imperial Knight and this festival is a good way to show off his skills. This bring a rejection from Evileye, though the doppelganger Soi arrives quickly steps into to calm things down and politely asks the who the workers are. This is of course scripted between her and Regi as the encounter is to supplement the information of interaction between them so that there is no discrepancy with Lupusregina's false identity. Once the two workers properly introduce themselves, they restate their intent to participate in the dedication demonstration. Their participation is cordially accepted by the members of Blue Roses as they hope it will be interesting.
Back at the suite, Narberal views the scene and reports that everyone was able to infiltrate. On any suspicious movement, Entoma is unsure, but finds that there's a group heading towards Shalltear, composed of armed soldiers. Thinking it might be an issue, Narberal reports that Sebas who is patrolling out in the crowd has noticed the movement and also heads out there.
Outside the inn suite, Sebas maintains watch from a distance in a crowd at the central plaza where Soi, Shall, Aura and Ku are. The armed soldiers appears to belong to Panasolei who came to greet the women with Prince Zanac. The mayor welcomes the trio to E-Rantel. Although the prince being part of the entourage is a bit of a surprise. Zanac wanted to come secretly, but had to send for his guards to accompany him. Thei is a relief to the fake protagonist as there is no need to be wary as the guards are just to protect the prince. Aura takes the opprtunity to introduce herself as a representative of the Sorcerer Kingdom.
The prince having heard rumors about Aura thanks for her daily contributions to the Sorcerer Kingdom and efforts for the festival. The dark elf thanks the prince for his kindness, however, admits this festival is nothing more than a reenactment of old folklore passed down in her Kingdom and the only new thing were the costumes.
Even so, Zanac believes the event is the perfect way transcend racial boundaries and strengthen ties between their nations. At the mention of costumes, Panasolei adds that many of them to be beautifully sewn. Zanac personally greets Shall having heard so much about her from the mayor and how her presence will have a big impact on the success of the festival. Just by looking at the people gathered here, the prince can understand why and looks forward to seeing her perform at the dedication demonstration.
Shall promises that her friends show off their skills to the fullest in order to meet his expectations. The excitement for the dedication performance passes through the crowd, and the fake protagonist admits to himself that no problem are apparent and the plan to proceeding carefully to the fake Surako who adds nothing odd has been detected by their agents.
Looking at the attitude of the representatives of the Kingdom and E-Rantel, Aura deduces there isn't any cause for concern in fact everyone here has turned into their puppets. Shall for one can feel safe while being in the festival though adds that they shouldn't lower their guard.
When the dedication demonstration begins, Ainzach acts as the announcer to attract the attention of the masses at the central plaza. For the event, the guildmaster states that to show their gratitude to the gods for the bountiful harvest and health the initiates the demonstration.
Soi and the protagonist doppleganer then act as fellow moderators to prvode commentary. Though some expected the protagonist to fight, it is explained by Soi that their hero's equipment ins currently being repaired hence will not be able to participate.
Instead the first match will hve the Imperial Knights Nimble and Leinas verus Aura and Narberal, representatives of the Sorcerer Kingdom. Narberal having donned a new costume of a school unform takes the stage with Aura.
Meanwhile Jircniv speaks with Leinas and Nimble,, giving them a pep talk, reminding them not to do anything that will disgrace the Imperial Knights or the Sorcerer Kingdom. Noticing Leinas's said face, Jircnov asks about it and is told by Nimble that the female knight wanted to thank the members of the Sorcerer Kingdom, for reviving her but sdaly was unable to meet with them, since they were already meeting Prince Zanac.
Jircniv tells her not to worry as there will be plenty of opportunities in the future. Besides, if they make their presence felt strongly through this dedication performance, the protagonist may come to see them. This brightens Leinas who promises to do her best. The match then beings for Nimble and Leinas versus Aura and Narberal.[7]
The end result is the win for Narberal and Aura. This brings about a round of cheers by the crowd. Zero who is watching is disappoiinted as he came to fight the Imperial Knights in front of the audience. Regi though tells him that not all is lost as they can still challenge the adventurers Shall and Ku who have the attention of Prince Zanac and the mayor of the city. The monk agrees that this moment could still be salavaged and vows to make Jircniv recognize him.
Indeed Zero's action have attracted Jircniv's sight, who notices that the man has become more mature after since forming New Six Arms. He wonders if this id due to his aspiration of becoming a knight or maybe his female companion. He then turns his attention to the new adventurers, as he heard that Shall, who is quite popular was originally a princess adventurer, and looks forward to seeing how far she can go.
Shall and Ku anticipating fighting Imperial Workers are eager to test their mettle and heighten the passion at the festival. Privately Shall thinks that this will be a good use in her role as a decoy to lure out the beings who exerted mental control over her. If that's the case, all that's left is to act as an idol and become the center of attention. If the humans remember her, there will be a possibility that she will be able to continue her activities in a human settlement without attracting suspicion.
Ainzach then starts the second match composed of outsiders to E-Rantel: Zero and Regi of New Six Arms versus the adventurers Shall and Ku. Once Ainzach announces Shall and Ku participation, the residents of the city shout their praise to the celebrities. The second match proves to be intense and heated match, between experienced fighters showing their composure. Inevitably the fights ends in the victory of Shall and Ku. Zero despite losing to the two, respectly recognizes them to be strong. After the mock battle, the two teams socialize commenting on each other's strength. Zero himself admits that though he lost the fight and possibly with his chance to impress Jircniv, there there are many ways to reach his goal. But since this is a festival decides to enjoy the event for the time being. This earns his a tease from Regi to be such a chivalrous boss.
Nimble in the street with his leige asks if Zero seriously intends to become a knight. Jircniv who has been watching the match, comments that Zero seems to be learning to be sensible. They are joined by Clementine wearing a swimsuit, attracted to their convesation and conveys that she was surprised by Zero's change in behavior and attributes it to the man meeting some good friends.
The saint's change of attire comes as a surprise to the emperor though Clementine thought it was a good time to get in the spirit of the occasion. Jircniv also wants to dress up as a wizard though was stopped by his guards from doing so. This childish aspect of the emperor is intriguing to Clementine as it shows how much the man has changed. The emperor proudly admits that maybe this is due to his admiration for the protagonist. Soi seeing this remarks how easily the protagonist's influence has allowed them control people's hearts.
Ainzach then goes on to announce the third match which involves the right to challenge Blue Roses! The teams that have reached the third match are "Aura and Narberal" and "Shall and Kuu". Lakyus wanting to have good balance in terms of number of people invites the winners and Soi on a five on five match. The idea is seen good for the performance. Even though it's a match, it's just a showdown of skills, making it more exciting for everyone. The two groups are in agreed and promise to give it their all before the gods.[8]
Aftermath[]
The dedication demonstration concludes in a thrilling draw. The display leaves everyone greatly impressed on not just the martial arts, but how the event brought everyone together surpassing racial boundaries. The festival is deemed a huge hit. Shall thanks her fans for their great welcome and announces that she is looking forward to continuing her training and one day to hopefully break her curse that prevents her from using magic. Till that day arrives Ainzach promises to welcome her formally as an adventurer and reward her a adventurer plate.
Later at the Round Table Room, Momonga is told on what transpired at the Greetings and Victory Festival from his subordinates. After the festival there was no difference between humans and people of other races when it comes to enjoying event. The residents came together with a strong desire for reconstruction, and seems to have been a major catalyst for their motivation for reconstructing the city. Momonga is most impressed as they have improved the image Sorcerer Kingdom. Aura give thanks to Demoirge for his seamless advic. When Momonga inquires about this from Demiurge, the demon admits that he gave some idol advice as Demi-P in using simple lies are easist to believe.
Shalltear adds that her role of a "heartbroken noble" was easy and simple to play. The humans were sympathetic to her as they tend to be kind to those who have experienced tragedy. Though its was a visible weakness, Albedo believes that Shalltear gained an advantage over them. Furthermore to add more prop to her undercover identity Shalltear managed to receive a facisimile adventurer plate from the guildmaster incribed with the name E-Rantel. Admittingly the experience with the Idol Project was helpful to the festival. And Momonga regards not only Demiurge's advice admirable, but Shalltear's plan of only following it as well.
Albedo asks if there were any distrubring movements during the festival, though Sebas and Narberal report aside from Shall's encounters with the guildmaster, mayor and crown prince there was no unexpected encounters. In fact all those encountered had no animosity towards the undercover adventurer. Lupusregina adds that she brought an outsider to the city and had nothing but positive comments. While Entoma reports that there were no abnormalities found even after checking the area with insects.
With all things considered, to Momonga it's finally becoming more likely that the person who exerted mental control over Shalltear is a member of the Theocracy. To Albedo it could mean that Shalltear's presence was not communicated to the Theocracy at least. Still Momonga considers that maybe the special forces of the Theocracy may have been involved with the mind control out in the Katze Plains. Naturally the unit that was close to the local area was the Sunlight Scripture, which was stationed in E-Rantel, so they could be likely suspects.
If this is so, the it may be necessary to take them in and investigate. Momonga has not doubt Neuronist would be up of the tasks or even use Greater Doppelgängers. The fake protagonist advises caution so as to ensure that the achievements accumulated at E-Rantel are not wasted. For the time being they should place emphasis on monitoring the Theocracy. Now its clear who Nazarick should be paying attention, and be prepared to move whenever the opportunity arises.
Shalltear then requests to be given more duties out in the field, promising to not let her guard down anymore. She believes that by utilizing the trust of humans that she gained in E-Rantel, she will do whatever he wants. On that Momonga requires some time to think about how to best use her new reputation in the outside world. Aura though thinks that Shalltear should establish her false identity's base a little later, since she made it her story that met friends and lost them on her journey, but there weren't that many towns around E-Rantel. So there is a plot hole in her story. This in mind Shalltear asks Aura to help her improve her cover story some more. Momonga glad to see that the two Floor Guardians are working well, has his mind drift to how he should deal with the Theocracy if they truly are the culprits who harmed Shalltear.
He momentarily loses emotional control, but quickly calms himself as it is not yet conclusive. Even if that were the case, it would be more beneficial to consider ways to use them to strengthen Nazarick than to simply destroy them. Recalling the quote: "Not moving can also be a risk" brings a whole new meaning to his future plans. So far he is the strongest entity in all of Nazarick and so in order to not to lose any more NPCs, he will also have go to the outside world. [9]
