Dietz Elderwood (ディッツ・エルダーウッド) is a worker and a member of Fist.

Appearance[]

A man wearing whole-body full platemail armor.

Personality[]

Dietz was a silent man who barely spoke. Despite Crusaders having reputations of causing trouble, Dietz was fundamentally a man of innate goodness. Although the things he did were reasonable was in and of itself a problem.

Background[]

Not much is known about Dietz's past, though he joined a group of workers led by Antwali few years ago, which later acquired a reputation as one of the best worker teams in the Free City of Vadis.

Chronology[]

The Phantom Ship of Katze Plains Arc[]

Main article: The Phantom Ship of Katze Plains I and The Phantom Ship of Katze Plains II Arc

Dietz and his team of Fist, along with four porters and an Inspector went on a routine undead subjugation into the Katze Plains. Their destination was Broken Tower 1. Dietz was placed at middle of the formation with the porters and Inspector. Though after Candelon Gaelian alerted his companions that there were undead up ahead, Antwali called the team to assemble with him and Bunaz at the front. then it’s more likely to be an undead that’s hiding underground than one that’s incorporeal.”

The team had a small discussion on what kind of undead were upahead. Candelon though it was more likely they were dealing with undead hiding underground than one that were incorporeal. In response, Dietz just silently shook his head.

And though they had little information on their opponent and had the option of retreat, Antwali decided to fight instead, going with the usual ritual of Envario using his strongest attack to eliminate the undead and make a display to impress their porters and the Inspector to raise their team's reputation. Bunaz lured out the undead which turned out to be Grave Dead, after which Envario summarily incinerated them with his magic.

Whilst Antwali was watching Envario's work, Dietx repeatedly poked him at the side, to let him know that the porters were coming over to congratulate them.[1]

When the team arrived just outside the Broken Tower, it was noticed by the workers of the lack of proper flag signs that should have indicated it being occupied and safe. It was soon determined by the workers that there was blood and corpses on the grounds of the tower. Candelon took Dietz to the rear of the team to inform the Inspecor and porters of the situation, before rejoin with the rest of Fist to decide on a course of action.

At Candelon's insistence that they needed to take care of the dead bodies within, Dietz voiced that they should also investigate the cause of the deaths by examining the footprints and traces of battle.

Inside the tower's premises, Dietz stood guard with Antwali as Candelon conducted the Rites of Vigil for three bodies found, while Envario and Bunaz examined the bodies. After that was done, Dietz and Antwali began digging some graves for the corpses. While they worked, the team conversed on the culprit who killed the deceased, which they suspected to be a Skeletal Dragon. Dietz mused that the three corpses were probably all that remained of the two teams at the tower, because their comrades weren’t able to escape in the end. He pieced together that the three deceased managed to let escape to the Broken Tower before they were hunted down. He then asked about the abilities of the Skeletal Dragon.

When Bunaz detected something was approaching the tower from the air, Dietz instinctively drew his weapon. He had his armor strength increased thanks to Envario. A Skeletal Dragon come out of the fog, Candelon declared that he could not detect it even with his undead detection spell. Having heard his teammate, Dietz was in disbelief of this, as that could only mean that their enemy was not an undead which was impossible.

Dietz and Antwali charged at the dragon head on when it landed before them. The two workers spilt out in their attack, attacking the undead from both sides though not going all the way out to leave some leeway for escape. While fighting the Skeletal Dragon's front, Dietz nearly had its jaws closed on him, but he managed to dodge the undead. The undead dragon then took to the saw, hovering over the ground and aimed at Antwali, but thanks to Envario us casted [Wall of Stone] a stone barrier was put between him and the leader of Fist/ Dietz though was on the other side of the wall with the Skeletal Dragon.

Dietz though alone, managed to fend off the Skeletal Dragon, long enough for his companions to take down the wall and and Envario's Summoned Bear taking Deitz's place in fighting the undead. The crusader then retreated to join up with his companions at the entrance to the Broken Tower. Just when the Skeletal Dragon that was attacking them, along with two more of its kind were about to end Fist, they were distracted by the arrival of Darkness.

Dietz witnessed the adamantite adventurer Momon, along with his mount Hamsuke battle the Skeletal Dragons. While watching Momon's attack, he noticed the peculiarity of Momon's "Martial Arts" involving unnecessary centrifugal motion, which the rest of his colleagues agreed was strange, but chalked it to being designed to counter attacks from all directions.[2]

After the battle Dietz and his team conversed with Momon, learning of his mission given to him by the Sorcerer Kingdom to search for the Ghost Ship of Katze Plains. Fist then wished Darkness luck, while they retreated back to Vadis to report the incident of the Skeletal Dragons.[3]

Later Dietz was with his team on the walls of Vadis unsure what to do. There was talk about heading to the Sorcerer Kingdom, although they were concerned about the safety of Momon as there was worry that the mission the adamantite adventurer was a ploy by Prime Minister Albedo to eliminate him. Dietz's worries though were turned to astonishment when he and Fist saw the Ghost Ship emerge from the fog, with Momon and Nabe on deck.[4]

Abilities and Powers[]

If Antwali was the sword of Fist, then he—Dietz Elderwood—was the shield. Dietz had high defensive abilities due to his sturdy equipment, and on top of that, he was an outstanding warrior who could use holy power. The crusader appears to be a competent warrior, able to hold off a Skeletal Dragon on his own and survive, at least temporarily. Though due to his armor, his speed was slow.

Job Classes[]

Main Equipment[]

  • Tower Shield
  • Mace
  • Spear: A weapon that was strapped to his back, which gave the impression that it had seen better days.

Relationships[]

Antwali[]

Antwali appears to regard Dietz as a reasonable individual. According to the other worker, if that weren’t the case—or if he was inferior in ability—Antwali would have probably made Dietz the one left holding the bag if it came down to it. Furthermore Antwali has shown to care for Dietz, unwilling to leave his companion behind even if Deitz's chances of survival were low and he being a risk to the survival of the rest of the team.

Candelon Gaelian[]

Dietz appears to follow his colleague's lead without question when the situation calls for it.

Trivia[]

  • Dietz is the only other worker in Fist, besides Candelon Gaelion, who wears full platemail.

Quotes[]

  • (To Antwali): “…”
  • (His opinion on investigating the Broken Tower):“…yeah, let’s do that. Footprints, traces of a battle. We should search for something like that.”
  • (His view of what happened to the dead):“Their comrades weren’t able to escape in the end…but they managed to let them escape to this Broken Tower at the least, huh. It’s unfortunate that we couldn’t give them a proper burial…So, what abilities does the Skeletal Dragon have? You already told us about it not having any poison and being able to fly.”
