Candelon Gaelian (カンデロン・ガエリアン) is a worker and warrior priest of Fist.
Appearance[]
Candelon has a sturdy physique that rivaled Antwali’s. He was covered in full plate armor and even wore a full-face helmet.
Personality[]
Candelon was said to be a priest who liked to fight the undead, preferring to pulverize them with his mace. He appears to be a very loud person, lacking discreetness. It seems his eagerness for wanting to fight the undead, is due finding them despicable as they disturb the rest of the dead.
Though he may seem reckless, quite to the contrary he is very responsible especially when ministering to the dead so they could have proper burials. This careful dedication was due to practicality in preventing the undead from rising in number as leaving corpses uncared would usually result in them turning into undead creatures.
Background[]
Not much is known about Candelon's past, though he joined a group of workers led by Antwali few years ago, which later acquired a reputation as one of the best worker teams in the Free City of Vadis.
Sometime after the incident involving a Skeletal Dragon in E-Rantel, Candelon having heard the news with his team over developed a high opinion of the adventurers involved, especially Momon. He made it rememberable for his teammate Antwali as he brutishly raised his glass and got his drink in Antwali's eyes and face.
Chronology[]
The Phantom Ship of Katze Plains Arc[]
- Main article: The Phantom Ship of Katze Plains I and The Phantom Ship of Katze Plains II Arc
Candelon and his team of Fist along with four porters and an Inspector went on a routine undead subjugation into the Katze Plains. Their destination was Broken Tower 1. He and Envario stood at the back as the rearguard.
Candelon through his magic sensed the presence of low-rank undead and alerted everyone of the danger. The workers then gathered to discuss their strategy. Anwtali complained at Candelon for not quietly giving out the warning. Although Bunaz believed that it could not be helped given the priest's personality. In any case Candelon's shout served as a prior warning to their porters and the Inspector to steel themselves beforehand. Even so Antwali did not see it that way.
Due to the fact that neither Antwali or Bunaz could see anything with their senses, Envario suspected that the undead was underground. Candelon then focused his magic to the ground, sensing the undead ambushers and shared Envario's opinion.
While that still did not given them much information on what type of undead they were dealing with, the workers decided to vote on whether to fight or retreat back to Vadis. For Candelon, the warrior priest kept repeating "fight" while swinging his mace. In the team voted to fight, taking the opportunity to impress the non-workers accompanying them.
The team went through the usual ritual of sending out Bunaz to lure out the undead, which turned out to be six Grave Dead. Afterwards the warrior priest listened to the Inspector give details of what could happen to the Free City of Vadis now that the Sorcerer Kingdom had annexed the Katze Plains. It all was leading to the Re-Estize Kingdom, Baharuth Empire and possibly the Temple pulling funding out of the city. From all this Antwali predicted that this last undead subjugation was probably Fist's last one, causing Candelon's face to fall.[1]
When the team arrived just outside the Broken Tower, it was noticed by the workers of the lack of proper flag signs that should have indicated it being occupied and safe. Candelon was asked by Antwali if he detected any undead, to which he did not. It was confirmed by Envario and Bunaz that there was blood spilt and corpses in the tower. He and Dietz then hurried to report this to the porters and Inspector at the rear.
On what course of action, despite the unknown danger, Candelon believed that the workers needed to go into the tower and take care of the corpses there lest they turn into undead and threaten the security of the tower's future usage. Due to his words, in the end the workers believed investigating the tower was the responsible action. In the formation to approach the tower, he and Dietz stood behind the other three members of Fist who advanced first.
Upon entering the grounds of the Broken Tower the team found only three corpses and Candelon confirmed that there were no undead anywhere in the area. Candelon then when to work to prepare simple Rites of Vigil for the deceased so that they could be buried. As he was giving prayers his companions examined the bodies to determine how they had died. The priest was asked his opinion on the footprints found by the collapses wall surrounding the tower, though Candelon could not give any as it was outside his area of expertise.
Fist then decided to check if the interior of the tower was free of undead. Together with Bunaz who checked for sounds and him using his undead detection ability, confirmed that the inside of the Broken Tower was empty of hostiles. Once the non-combatants of the subjugation team were ushered inside, Candelon and Bunaz stood guard while the others buried and searched the corpses.
Later on the subject of a Skelatal Dragon appearing in E-Rantel involing Momon and Nabe, the priest recalled having heard the new for the first and who great a man he though Momon was.
However when Bunaz detected something moving in the foggy sky, Candelon quickly drew his weapon and used a undead-detecting spell. Candelon could not detect any undead, but the ranger was sure something was coming straight towards them. It soon was revealed to be a Skeletal Dragon. Candelon exclaimed that the undead should have been undetected through the use of his spell, though his teammate Envario told him that the Skeletal Dragon's resistance to magic blocked the detection spell.
The team split up to engage the Skeletal Dragon, with Candelon staying behind with Bunaz to protect Envario while the other two engaged the undead. However the two lost their leeway in protecting the magic caster when two most Skeletal Dragons appeared. Antwali gave the order to retreat inside the tower, but one of the dragons landed near the entrance of the tower, before Candelon and his two teammates. Though before it could attack them, it and the other two Skeletal Dragons were distracted by the arrival of Darkness. Candelon and his fellows then bore witness to Momon and his team defeating the Skeletal Dragons.[2]
After the battle Candelon and his team conversed with Momon, learning of his mission given to him by the Sorcerer Kingdom to search for the Ghost Ship of Katze Plains. Fist then wished Darkness luck, while they retreated back to Vadis to report the incident of the Skeletal Dragons.[3]
Later Candelon was with his team on the walls of Vadis unsure what to do. There was talk about heading to the Sorcerer Kingdom, although they were concerned about the safety of Momon as there was worry that the mission the adamantite adventurer was a ploy by Prime Minister Albedo to eliminate him. Candelon's worries though were turned to astonishment when he and Fist saw the Ghost Ship emerge from the fog, with Momon and Nabe on deck.[4]
