Bunaz is an easy-going and logical man, though tends to stress specific words in his sentence with exaggerated slurs.

Background[]

Not much is known about Bunaz's past, though he joined a group of workers led by Antwali few years ago, which later acquired a reputation as one of the best worker teams in the Free City of Vadis.

Chronology[]

The Phantom Ship of Katze Plains Arc[]

Main article: The Phantom Ship of Katze Plains I and The Phantom Ship of Katze Plains II Arc
Spoiler Warning: Plot from the light novel details follow

Bunaz and his team of Fist along with four porters and an Inspector went on a routine undead subjugation into the Katze Plains. Their destination was Broken Tower 1. He and Antwali stood at the front as the vanguard. The ranger and the warrior spoke together to confirm their team's plan to just head to the Broken Tower and clean up the surrounding area and then return back to the city. After hearing his leader's confirm, Bunaz asked if this was due to Antwali's intuition telling him to do so. Though his face fell when Antwali told him it wasn't his intuition telling him, indicating they were approaching the danger zone.

While they did not spot any undead, Candelon Gaelian alerted everyone about undead presences. Momentarily gathering together, Bunazi and Antwali could not see any undead in front of their path. This led them to believe they were dealing with an invisible or subterranean undead. The team had either the option of fight or retreating back to the city. The leader decided to chose the former, and implement their usual ritual of impressing the porters by having Envario cast his strongest [Fireball] spell one the undead. After Bunaz drew the undead out of the ground, revealing them to be six Grave Dead, the magic caster proceeded to use his magic to wipe them out.

After thoroughly impressing the porters and the Inspector finishing recording the kill undead kill count, Antwali took the opportunity to ask the Inspector questions bout the future of the Free City. The Inspector could not provide any definite answers, but did provide Bunaz an answer to his question on if it was true that Re-Estize Kingdom and Baharuth Empire had pulled out of supporting the Free City with monetary funds. And with the temple being the only financier for the undead subjugations, cuts in pay were expected. This information in mind, led to the workers seeing that it would impossible for his team to continue to work as usual. To cut the dour topic, Bunaz brought everyone back to focus on their job and to resume their journey.[1]

When the team arrived just outside the Broken Tower, it was noticed by the workers of the lack of proper flag signs that should have indicated it being occupied and safe. Seeing that the tower should have been occupied as two subjugation teams headed prior to there team, the workers knew something was wrong. Envario volunteered to use [Fly] and check it out, but Bunaz stopped him, opting to use his nasal drug to enhance his olfactory senses, which allowed him to detect a faint scent of blood in the area.

With caution on the mind, Envario called for a wolf summon to scout the tower. Due to the wolf having a smell of sulfur, Bunaz had to cover his nose to avoid the strong scent. When it returned with a bloodstained scrap of cloth, Bunaz examined and confirmed that it was of the imperial style and that the damage was not from a blade but from either a fang or claw.

In an argument not to head to the tower, Bunaz offered that it would be dangerous if the undead that caused the deaths in the area was still around the area. Unlike animals that have their own territories, Bunaz never heard of undead intentionally returning to the deep reaches of the plains. The ranger believed it Would be wise to get away from the area as soon as possible. And while he didn't know which team was the one that got wiped out, it still left the fact that there was an undead strong enough to do that loose in the area.

Even with the little information that they had, Antwali decided to head to the Broken Tower to investigate and also give the dead Rites of Vigil out of responsibility. The subjugation team then approached the tower, with Bunaz, lining up with Envari and Antwali at the front with the summoned wolf guarding the middle of their formation. As they approached the tower, Bunaz studied the ground of the perimeter of the tower, noticing three or four sets of disordered footprints at the south.

To the ranger it indicated that the people in the tower were attempting to escape from something. This lead Antwali to believe that the people were chased from the plans to the tower. But Bunaz thought that was a hasty deduction, as he could not find any pursuing footprints that could have belonged to the undead unless it had the job class of Forest Walker. This led to a conclusion that the undead was a flying type. Bunaz could not be sure of that, but believed it could explain the damage to the tower's defensive wall, as it suggested that something crashed into it. Bunaz believed it wasn't a non-corporeal undead, considering the physical damage to the wall. And he agreed with Envario that retreating to the interior of the tower would be the securest place if the enemy was capable of flight.

He pointed out the three bodies within the grounds of the tower. Together with Envario, he examined the dead and confirmed that whatever killed them was a monster and from the footprints he found he determined it was a quadruped and had a long tail. When Envario suggested that it matched the traits of a Skeletal Dragon, Bunaz recalled that a Skeletal Dragon had appeared in E-Rantel once and wondered if it escaped from there.

Antwali then called Bunaz to check on if there was anything inside the Broken Tower. Bunaz moved to the door and heard nothing, saw no signs of forced entry and no footprint escaping inside. Later Candelon checked that it was free of the undead with his magic. Upon opening the door to the door, Bunaz took out a Glow Stick and threw it inside to illuminate the interior and confirmed all was fine.

After the porters were told to stay inside the tower, Bunaz and Candelon stood guard outside while Antwali and Dietz dug graves for the dead. During this time Antwali re-opened a discussion over the famous adamantite adventurer Momon and his feat of slaying a Skeletal Dragon. When it was mentioned that the undead had resistance against stabbing, Bunaz thought as much, stating he would be ill-suited in facing it as he was poor in blunt weapons.

Just as the workers were lowering the bodies into the grave, Bunaz detected something was flying in the sky from the south under the cover of the fog. When it revealed itself to be a Skeletal Dragon, Bunaz stayed behind with Candelon to guard Envario while the rest of Fist engaged it. Envario used [Wall of Stone] to protect Antwali, however it trapped Dietz alone with the undead. Before Envario could take it down, Bunaz halted him from doing so as he detected two more entities approaching the Broken Tower.

Soon two more Skeletal Dragons emerged from the fog. Antwali gave the order for Bunaz and his group to hurry to the tower for shelter. Without a word, Bunaz knew what to do, and began running around drawing the enemies’ attention while positioning to support others with potions.

However the plan was complicated when one of the undead targeted Bunaz and his group. Before the Skeletal Dragons could annihilate the workers, they were distracted by something heading towards them. Bunaz using his senses, he detected at least two more unknowns. At first thinking they were going to be facing more Skeletal Dragons, to his amazement it was the Momon and Nabe riding on Hamsuke.

Like the rest of Fist he watched as Momon and Hamsuke fought the Skeletal Dragon. However he had some doubts over Momon's "Martial Arts" finding it odd he developed a move requiring centrifugal motion as an attack.[2]

Abilities and Powers[]

An experienced worker, it was said that Bunaz had reconnaissance and great perception skills able to see spot things in the distance and in the sky. He was also one of two people in Fist, the other being Envario, who excelled at information gathering. Bunaz also appears to be adept at gleaming information from remains, able to tell the difference between damage made by a blade, fang or claw. Another set of skills he had was being able to locate hidden items on a person.

Though as an archer he was bad at wielding blunt objects in combat. That didn't mean was not good, and could probably use blunt weapons better than most other workers.

Job Classes[]

Main Equipment[]

  • Bow: Bunaz wielded a bow that was as tall as he was.
  • Quiver: Bunaz's quiver only held two abnormally sized arrows that were more like spears than arrows. From this he was given the nickname, “Longspear.”
  • Nasal Drug: A drug that allows Bunaz to enhance his sense of smell.
  • Glow Stick: A rod made with alchemy that illuminates when bent.

Relationships[]

Antwali[]

Antwali appears to get along with Bunaz, as they work closely as vanguards in their team's formation, with Bunaz compensating for Antwali's lack of reconnaissance skills. Whenever Bunaz made a serious face, it brought Antwali to ease. There was mutual respect and trust between the two, as even though Bunaz disagreed with a plan despite the danger, he followed Antwali lead.

Candelon Gaelian[]

Bunaz found Candelon to be quite annoying due to his loudness.

Trivia[]

  • When Bunaz's face crumbled to his usual handsome looks returned after squinting his eyes, its appearance indicated neither carelessness, complacency, nor relief dominated his inner thoughts.

Quotes[]

  • (To Antwali): “Hmmmm. There are no silhouettes of undead. Let’s keep moving ahead as we are! You’re not getting any dangerous vibes either, right Antwali?”
  • (To ANtwali): “The interior is dangerous? Is that something your intuition told you? Or is that just common sense?”
  • (To his team): “I’m suuuper interested in this topic, but there’s no need to have a long talk in a place like this when we’re just a little further to the Broken Tower. Shouldn’t we be heading out?”
