Battle at Prart was a battle in Jaldabaoth's siege on the Northern Holy Kingdom. It was the last major battle of the conflict.[1]
Background[]
With the recapture of Kalinsha and the liberation of the Zern prince, the Holy Kingdom Liberation Army were soon approached by the leaders of the Southern Noble Alliance and their armies of 50,000 reinforcements. The nobles having heard that Prince Caspond was alive and well came to pledge their loyalty to the future king of the Roble Holy Kingdom and join forces in driving out Jaldabaoth. Though the prince was aware of the nobles of the Southern Holy Kingdom were only doing so to selfishly bolstering their statuses and reputations, Caspond accepted their help as repelling the demi-humans took priority and felt that the nobles remain as allies. A week after the two forces had joined up, the armies of the Holy Kingdom, advanced to the city of Prart west of Kalinsha. The operation was embarked under the assumption that Jaldabaoth was still wounded from his battle with Ainz Ooal Gown and thus unable to take action on the battlefield.
Battle[]
In the march to the city of Prart, there were about 95,000 people in the armies of the Holy Kingdom. Their forces were composed of 30,000 men from the Southern Holy Kingdom and 65,000 men from the Liberation Army. The remaining 20,000 men that came with the nobles of the south were divided into two groups of 10,000. One was assigned to secure the armies' axis of retreat, and the other was stationed in Kalinsha along with 2,000 archers from the Sorcerer King's Rescue Team.
The united armies faced against the remains of the Demi-Human Alliance which was estimated to be around 30,000 strong. Though the human forces outnumbered the demi-humans, their numerical advantage meant little as each individual demi-human was stronger than a human being. The battle was expected by the Holy Kingdom forces to be in an open field. Though it was tactically a move to disengage the demi-humans from a defensive position from their captured city, Neia Baraja deduced that the demi-humans chose the battlefield as most likely chose to go on the offensive to prepare to flee. She suspected that a few demi-humans in the alliance, like the Zern, were not totally commit to the Demon Emperor's plans for conquest. It was also believed that some would use the open field to escape Jaldabaoth's control by using the open field whilst their fellows and the humans clashed. However even with the circumstances of the demi-humans' enslavement by the Demon Emperor, it was felt that they had caused too much suffering to the people of the Holy Kingdom. To Neia, only those that have been forgiven by the Sorcerer King were allowed to exist. With that people who advocated coexistence with demi-humans or endorsed such thoughts were silenced among the Holy Kingdom forces.
The two armies soon faced one another with the human army chose to divide into two columns, with the left flank composed of 30,000 men from the Southern Noble Alliance and 10,000 men from the Liberation Army. The remaining 55,000 of the Liberation Army made up the right flank. The two columns then formed something like a crane-wing formation as the humans wanted to exterminate the demi-humans thus their strategy was to encircle them and cut them off. The Demi-Human Alliance chose a fish-scale formation to emphasize penetrating power either to break through the encirclement or to slaughter as many humans as they could. Neia and her unit were placed to protect the engineers who made camp located some distance away from the battlefield. This placement was most in part to place CZ2128 Delta out of the away to prevent a casus belli for she was technically a citizen of the Sorcerer Kingdom thus the Liberation Army could not order her to battle.
Night soon fell, an advantage that fell to the demi-humans, but the humans having advantage in numbers persisted. The first clash against the demi-human army was scored as a victory by Remedios Custodio who the Scale Demon, one of Jaldabaoth's minions. The humans' celebration of taking the demon commander's head did not last as very soon Jaldabaoth appeared in a pillar of fire, right in the middle of the left wing of their forces. The demon annoyed that the humans were indulging themselves on hope, immediately set out to make them fall into despair. The Demon Emperor proceeded to use his magical flames to scorch the earth and people around him. Most of the humans forces, be they soldier, militiaman, priest or noble, fled before him, and were either crushed by the panicking masses or were incinerated by the flames. A few brave individuals tried to stop him but their attempts proved to be in vain.
Upon witnessing the full might of the Demon Emperor, the nobles of the Southern Noble Alliance realized the full scope of their opponent. They had only expected to crush a few stranglers from the demi-humans, to raise their status as heroes to their kingdom. Never did the though cross them that they would expect to face such a powerful demon even with their numerical advantage the latter could simply overturn it single-handedly. As they argued Remedios mocked their cowardice in face of the demon, before she is excused by Prince Caspond. Desperate for a way out, nothing came to them on how to escape the situation. Count Cohen suggested that they could negotiate with Jaldabaoth, only to earn him laughs from his peers.
A plan was proposed to send out CZ2128 Delta against Jaldabaoth, but even the maid admitted that she would not be able to stop the rampaging demon. With time running out, some of the nobles believed that running from the battle to escape back south, before Jaldabaoth reestablished control over his forces. This plan was brought in conflict by some other nobles who believed that they should remain to kill as many demi-humans as they could. Inevitably the bickering of the nobles allowed for the demi-humans to reform their battle lines. Soon reports came that a force of 10,000 demi-humans were advancing towards the Kingdom's forces from the east where Kalinsha was. Confused at how the demi-humans outmaneuvered them the nobles and prince opted to keep the information of the approaching new army and the pincer attack from the rest to prevent panic. Their escape route now fully cut off, the leaders of the Liberation forces decided to fight to the very end.
The battle between Jaldabaoth's forces and the Liberation's continued, with many casualties. Jaldabaoth continued to wreck havoc, appearing in various sectors of the battlefield, wiping out entire infantries at random. At the same time the demi-humans' capitalized on the losses of their opponents and pressed on the attacks. Remedios tried to confront Jaldabaoth at the sectors where he appeared, but would continuously vanish and reappear elsewhere. Neia proving long range support for her fellows with her archers detected the approaching demi-human army that was en-route. Out of options, Neia and her assistant Bertrand Moro came to the conclusion that the only way to save their Holy Kingdom was to kill Jaldabaoth. But even that task was impossible as the only person who could defeat the demon was missing. CZ2128 Delta however point to their salvation, as the army approaching from the east did not belong to Jaldaboath, but in fact bore the banner of the Sorcerer King. At their head was Ainz Ooal Gown who brought much needed troops to aid the battle against the Demon Emperor. Briefly reuniting with Neia, Ainz explained that after his battle with Jaldbaoth, he was blown off course into the Abelion Hills. Claiming that he was weakened by the battle he gathered his strength and liberated the enslaved demi-human tribes that were oppressed by the Demon Emperor's regime.
Before the eyes of both armies, Ainz announced that this was his chance to defeat Jaldabaoth as the situation was now different. That despite Jaldabaoth's invincibility, the demon was unable to summon many demons again in a short time. Whereas he on the other hand was fully recovered now and had no reason to lose. In a final bid to the Kingdom's force, Ainz asked only for them to wait for him to return in triumph. As the Sorcerer King depart to defeat the Demon Emperor, the audience in the battlefield saw and felt in the distance a collision of incredible forces. When it was finally over, Ainz descended from the skies and brought great cheers of victory by the human forces.
Aftermath[]
The defeat of Jaldabaoth along with the return of the Sorcerer King with multiple allies signaled the end of the demi-human invasion with the remaining forces afterword having an easier time taking care of the remnants. It also made way for the Holy Kingdom to establish diplomatic ties with Sorcerer Kingdom and allowed relief efforts to coordinate to help in rebuilding the nation.[2]
