Spoiler Alert Spoiler Alert: WARNING! This page happens to contain a lot of heavy spoilers that are all originated from the Overlord Light Novel series written by the author Kugane Maruyama. To every Anime-only watchers and Manga-only reader out there viewing this warning, please mindfully consider your decision first before choosing to expose yourself on reading the information below. Avatara (化身 (アヴァターラ) ) are the thirty-seven golems that guard and protect the Mausoleum, the vault containing the World Items of the Great Tomb of Nazarick.[1]

Appearance

Avatara are sculptures created by Momonga based on the appearance of his former guild members who quit the game. According to Momonga, his lack of drawing skills allowed him to only capture ten percent of their charm.

Momonga purchased the external appearance data and forcibly installed it into the golems. The end result is that the limbs either grew fatter or became shortened. The heads even grew massive and clown-like, like monsters from nightmares. However, this lack of cohesive unity in their appearances exudes a kind of strange atmosphere which gives people a strong sense of unease.

Abilities and Powers

All the Avatara are armed with the super-powerful equipment of the members of Ainz Ooal Gown who had left and possess immense strength. They are designed to attack anyone who is in possession of a Ring of Ainz Ooal Gown.

Trivia

  • Although the thirty-seven Avatara golems in the Mausoleum were created by Momonga, he used cash items of his own to make them.
  • Each Avatara is a place holder for the equipment of the guild members they are meant to represent.
  • The thirty-seven Avatara are created in the image of the former guild members of Ainz Ooal Gown after they retired from the game.[2]
  • There are only four vacant spots left for placing Avatara: one each for Momonga, Herohero, and two additional unnamed guild members of Ainz Ooal Gown.[3]
